Cakes d'licious in York

I used to be a regular here until my working hours changed. Whenever I get the opportunity I always pop in. Lovely place with a counter brimming full of cake treats. Loose leaf tea which is a nice touch.

Out with our sewing crew and the wonderful people at Bugqeeds fabric recommended this lovely vintage teashop. Catering for most needs at short notice they accommodated 9 hungry sewers. The food is all homemade, a food selection of tea , coffee and soft drinks which perfectly accompanied a delicious selection of treats - amazing cakes. Served by wonderfully friendly and knowledgeable staff. Thankyou for providing us all with a lovely lunch. Bev.

The best afternoon tea, sandwiches, amazing, cakes also amazing.

Afternoon tea was delicious, great selection and lots of it. However I would expect a pot of tea to come with it for £20pp? This seemed odd to not have tea with ‘afternoon tea’. Charging extra for this was disappointing. The waitress also said with a bit of an attitude that if we weren’t having tea to pass all the tea cups back which was unnecessary. We were sat at the long table at the back crammed in and it just felt awkward. Especially as we were also having to pass all the food and drinks down because there was no space for the waitress to move. Not sure if i would choose to go back. £9 extra for The Ivy afternoon tea and a much better experience.

FANTASTIC 😍 A lovely vintage tea room that is a comfortable walk from the centre of York Dog friendly and the staff are attentive and welcoming. Excellent menu and the cakes are a must !!! 💖

Spent a lovely few hours in this delightful cafe, celebrating my friend's birthday recently. Our experience was second to none from the welcome we received to the delicious afternoon tea we were presented with. My friend had the gluten free option and for once, she felt catered for with such a thoughtful menu. I had an afternoon tea in Bettys a few months ago and I can honestly say the food, atmosphere and the team at Cakes d'Licious was far more enjoyable. Thankyou. We will be back

This cafe is a little gem! I went for afternoon tea as part of a hen party. As a vegan I’m always a little worried as to if places can cater for me, but they were fantastically accommodating, and the sandwich choices, scones and cakes were all really nice. They also had no problem catering for people in the group who were gluten intolerant. The staff were lovely and friendly, and the cafe was pretty. I will definitely be going back at some point.

We went here for a hen do celebration afternoon tea and it was everything I hoped it would be. The food was amazing - and 2 guests who had gluten free afternoon tea were especially positive about it! We took our own Prosecco and just generally had a lovely time. I will definitely be going back to sample more cake! The ladies working there were so friendly and it just feels good to know we're supporting an independent business. Highly recommended!

A great place for cake or lunch if you are in the area. We shared the cauliflower soup with a cheese scone with cream cheese and chutney topping (usually come with ham). Top notch cheese scone. Fluffy on the inside and a good crunch on the outside. A good selection of loose leaf teas - I had the gunpowder green which was lovely. We didn't have any room for cake, but based on the options on the display counter and how good the scone was, it all looked very tasty. They have seating at the back on the ground floor, as well as a few tables upstairs. They have plenty of vegetarian options. They also offer a gluten-free / vegan afternoon tea on their menu (pre booking essential). The gift shop across the road, Birdies Perch, is well worth popping into if you have time.

Wow is all I can say. Nikki you are a legend! The Bakewell that I had today is the best I've ever tasted. And Lauren's Easter Egg Brownie left her with glazed eyes. Can't wait to make the trip into York again soon.

We love it here. We've never eaten in but we definitely need too. We've had their cheese and fruit scones, lots of their cakes and I recently got a sandwich to takeaway. It was so fresh and delicious. The scones are so big I have to slice it in three!!! :-)

Took my mum for early mothers day afternoon tea, everything about it was just perfect, the food was delicious, the presentation and set up of the vintage tea room was gorgeous, the staff where so lovely, welcoming and friendly they couldn't do enough for you. We loved our visit, we had to take some cakes home as there were so many, thank you, highly recommended this little gem of a place x

Lovely tea shop with attentive service that was just a little understaffed on the day of our visit. All homemade delicious cakes! We had the afternoon tea and we all thoroughly enjoyed it. My son was very pleased with the variety on offer in his vegan afternoon tea. I highly recommend the white chocolate + raspberry/blueberry scones, which were enormous and delicious!

An amazing array of home made cakes, scones etc. They do lunches too. Lovely tea room, a gem! A lady was baking at the back of the tearoom when I was there.

Took my wife here for just a coffee but ended up having toastie and a cake. The food is as the cafe says ‘delicious’ The staff are friendly and its a vintage tea room so they are dressed accordingly. The cakes are immense. The lady bakes them every morning. Don’t know how that is possible as the choice is fantastic. They aren’t cheap but you get what you pay for. You can park opposite for two hours so no problems there either. Need a week to recover 😂

It is always such a delight visiting this tea room. The atmosphere is lovely and staff are always so welcoming. The food is delicious and the vast array of cakes is so tempting! Dietary requirements will be catered for, including in their amazing afternoon teas. There is a selection of seating both downstairs and upstairs. Toilets are upstairs. Parking isn't great around the cafe with it being very restricted, but it is only a 15 minute walk from the City Centre of York. Highly recommended and will be visiting again. Take away option is also available.

What a gorgeous vintage tearoom that I happened upon in Clifton. About a 10/15minute walk from the centre of York Such friendly attentive service, the cake display was amazing as soon as you walk in the door. Lots of seating indoors and a couple of tables outside. They do breakfast, sandwiches, baked potatoes, soup, various afternoon/cream teas and children's options. Plus lots of choice in teas, coffees and hot chocolates. I went for a large hot chocolate with flake which was creamy, chocolatey and very nice. Plus coffee and walnut cake which was the best I ever had. Perfect combination of coffee buttercream and walnut sponge with neither overpowering, very moreish. Would recommend if you want really nice homemade food and amazing cakes at a good price. Loved the whole vintage theme, with the ladies serving also dressed up.

If you have never been make the effort to pop along to this tearoom. You will not be disappointed. One of Yorks best kept secrets. The array of cakes is amazing and the afternoon tea is second to none. Be prepared you will be taking some home. D'licious by name and delicious in taste.

Really enjoyed the afternoon tea

Lovely little cafe. We had coffee, sandwich & a toastie. They were both delicious, served with a fresh salad & crisps. The cakes looked very tempting! … We’ll have to go back to try them. The pricing was very reasonable! £20.90 for two people, which you don’t get very often. Lovely staff too, fit the whole vibe.

This is my favourite tea shop in York and there is a lot of competition so this tells you how great it is! Everything is delicious and fresh, the cakes really are homemade and each time I visit I always discover something new. Service is so friendly and you leave feeling a bit better (must be the cake 😉) just don't tell everyone about it or we will never get a table again.

The selection is huge .I think the girl serving me was new as she was struggling, the folk who ate them. Loved them.

Visited as a group of 10 yesterday. Probably the best afternoon tea we have ever had as a group. Dietary requirements were taken care of and the service was excellent, with friendly staff. Worth a walk out of the city centre to visit this gem 💎

Awesome tea room with beautiful cakes, great retro 1940s themed and the staff are amazing. Took my mum for her birthday surprise and the staff could not do enough for all of us. The cakes are so nice we all had a doggie bag to take home and it's just a great little place. I would recommend anyone to go but at the same time don't want it to change. Superb English cream tea. Lovely sandwiches, lovely cakes. So filling we took our scones home! Why go to Bettys and queue for ages AND pay a fortune when a better option is so close????

Very disappointed. Had a table booked for 10am with friends. Waitress came to take our order then told us no bacon left! As we left the woman cooking told us she had already cooked 6 bacon sarnies and didn't have time to do any more. Bellas cafe over the road had our custom this morning and probably will from now on. Absolutely fabulous sarnies and cheaper 😊

Afternoon tea in my garden with my son and his fiance was made extra special courtesy of Cakes D'Licious.I could've passed it off as home made but it was too good and the selection of cakes and sandwiches was way more than I could've cobbled together.

We enjoyed our takeaway Mother's Day afternoon tea yesterday. Everything was amazingly fresh and tasty, from the sandwich selection, the fruit scones served with jam and clotted cream through to the selection of homemade cakes, cupcakes, and biscuits. We even had some left over to enjoy with a cuppa later. Wonderful, and highly recommended.

Fabulous food really cannot fault but the staff were not very friendly and if you have mobility issues the only loo is upstairs which is a bit of a nightmare.

Thank you for the amazing Festive Afternoon Tea we had today! We all really enjoyed it and there was so much time and effort that had gone into making it so magical and Christmassy! There was so much of it we even got leftovers later on! Thank you, it was a perfect way to celebrate an important birthday!

We have just had one of the best afternoon teas ever. The sandwiches had just enough filling and were very tasty. The scones were fluffy and the homemade cakes were to die for, we couldnt eat it all so saved some cakes for tomorrow.

Popped in for a coffee and cake. Really good.

Lovely cakes and we go regularly; pretty sure my wife goes even more than she admits. Only downside that puts me off is many cakes are not covered and close to the door where customers are coming and going so not very hygienic. We only get cakes that are covered so please cover them all so we have more choice!

There was a huge array of tasty looking cakes as I entered the cute little establishment but there was no warm welcome - a “hello”, a “take a seat we’ll be with you ASAP”, a smile - any would’ve been appreciated but nothing so I just wandered around and chose a seat. There was an unfriendly lady sat at the back of the cafe barking instructions at the staff and even instructed me to move seats so that staff could wipe down the table I chose. The lady then began questioning a member of staff whilst she was taking a call. The staff weren’t smiling, yet were efficient in their job. There was just an unfriendly atmosphere in the place. I wondered how much of it was down to this lady.

Cakes were OK, nothing special. The cappuccino was good. The decor could be better, I can't get over the plastic-covered tables and the worn flooring.

Podía verla desde mi asiento. Sí, bebe tu café. Sal a charlar con tus cuentas, señora. ¿Pero hacer la comida para tus clientes? No es una prioridadVisitantes, no visiten si tienen que volver al trabajo o la escuela por un tiempo fijo.La primera vez que fui, di retroalimentación directa sobre el servicio lento, pero me dijeron que era porque tenían un cliente sin gluten para hacer un sándwich, por lo que retrasó todos los demás pedidos. Desconcertado pero sigamos adelante. Les di una segunda oportunidad. Esta vez fue igual de lento y casi ningún otro pedido. Creo que no vi otro pedido de sándwich todo el tiempo que estuvimos allí. Así que no estoy ocupado. Realmente decepcionante. Consiga una persona que pueda ir más allá del ritmo del caracol haciendo sándwiches, por favor.

Very friendly people and very special cakes

We went for my 60th birthday breakfast and had a delightful time. Some of our party had specific dietary needs and these were catered for well. Thanks to all the staff for looking after us well.

This friendly cafe is rather unexpected, situated just by the pedestrian crossing in Clifton, and is a gem.There are always gf brownies and flapjack available, and the coffee is excellent. The staff are extremely helpful and careful if you tell them you need gf food.I haven't yet had it, personally, but I saw their special afternoon tea, gf, recently, and I hope to have an excuse to enjoy it myself as soon as possible! Attractively presented sandwiches and a variety of cakes looking very tempting.

Visited for breakfast. Very helpful friendly staff and perfectly cooked poached eggs. I had a piece of cake afterwards which was indeed delicious. My pot of tea was steaming hot and the staff there were happy to top it up for me. A lovely place to eat with a warm atmosphere and the best pot of tea I have found in York. I would highly recommend it

Beautiful cafe and marvellous cakes. Our drinks were barely warm but they may have been affected by the cold atmosphere created by one particular staff member. Not only did she rush us to order, she was also extremely unhelpful when we were choosing our cakes and let our a huge sigh when we asked for the bill to be split. She then made a huge drama of finding a calculator (to halve a bill) and was even abrupt and stressy with nice older lady who was trying to help her. I’m not sure a place this small can contain such a huge negative personality, without it damaging their business. What a shame such a sweet place delivered a service so sour.

Llevamos a mamá para un regalo de cumpleaños solo para ser recibidos con una cortés y grosera camarera apresurándonos a ordenar en 5 minutos. Después de esperar casi 20 minutos para el pastel y una bebida (con solo otras 2 mesas ocupadas) nuestro chocolate blanco caliente sabía a leche caliente con vainilla, el chocolate caliente de amaretto se sirvió tibio. Los pasteles eran hermosos. Sin ambiente, servicio al cliente o calidez. Ni una sonrisa de nuestra camarera. No me impresionó y definitivamente no es genial para un regalo especial. No lo recomendaré. La camarera que resopló por la cuenta dejó un sabor desagradable.

Just had an afternoon tea with the family, and it was one of the nicest we've ever had. Proper leaf tea, great sandwiches in lovely fresh bread, fruit and plain scone each with quality jam and an truly excellent selection of cakes. The only thing keeping them from top spot in the afternoon tea league table was the cream was aerated, not whipped double or clotted (which would have guarenteed top spot). Great friendly staff too, so if you are in the area this place is a must!

Easy to miss small cafe and cake shop by Clifton Green in York. Very friendly in a Yorkshire way with a vague 50's look. Home made cakes and light meals through the day with usually early opening at 8.30 ish. Personal favourites are the bacon sandwich which is just done perfectly or the blueberry scones which are huge. All seem very fresh.

The best tea shop in York, no ifs, no buts!!! Large chunks of quality cake all cook in house and served by friendly staff. I will be trying the scones on my next visit. Very child friendly with reading/colouring books and crayons provided for my two little daughters. An all round lovely experience enroute to the park with the family. Keep up the great work guys and we shall most definatly being visiting again on our next trip to the UK.

Popped in here on my way home feeling very peckish and having passed it many times previously. The staff very all very friendly and helpful. I ordered a sandwich and a piece of coffee and walnut cake to take away. The sandwich was delicious, as was the cake. The slice of cake was huge and went down very well with a cup of tea!! I couldn’t not fault either of the items and will definitely be visiting again.
