Great little cafe on the Brighton Marina. Great good, beverages and very friendly staff. The milk shakes in particular can be recommended. We had a fresh sandwich with a side of fries and it was more than enough for two

We popped in for breakfast for the first time and were not disappointed. We had the all day full english on sourdough. Great quality produce and well cooked. The sun was shining so we sat outside. The staff are lovely especially the Italian owner. We are moving to the Marina and will be back !!!

This place has much improved over recent times with fresh management. As locals we have started using Zio regularly again mostly for breakfast and have not been disappointed.

We went for a walk around Brighton Marina, looking for a light lunch. We were almost seduced by the big names of Nando's TGI Friday, et al, but the queues were daunting. We found Zio, able to get seated very quickly and had a choice of outside or in. The menu is compact, with daily specials, and this makes for very quick service. The food is fresh, very well presented, hot and very tasty. Staff are busy, but are attentive, and friendly. Bl**dy good value too!! GO !!

I had an amazing swordfish steak, which the owner graciously set aside for us after we phoned the place this morning. The owner explained that they took over the place very recently and they are working hard to make this place a unique experience. They get fresh fish from the market and they have fantastic daily specials. I plan to go back on a regular basis after today's experience. Highly recommended!

Wonderful! Good food and great service overall was excellent. Lots of choice food wise and lots of vegetation options as well. Will certainly come back when we visit Brighton again.

Used to be nothing special and run by people that didn't care. For the last five months under new management. I found this out last week when I returned for perhaps the first time in four years. Menu is now exciting, but best bit is all staff very proffesional and service now 5 *. Totally needed as others in the marina losing what made them special. Very happy fornStafono and his crew.

the woman in there is so rude. refused to let a 3 year old and heavilu pregnant woman use the toilet. said the toliet was across the road, didnt mention where so buy the time we had worked out it was upstairs up a HUGE flight of stairs 3 year old had wet herself .when we returned to our table they had put the food down even though no one wazs sitting at our table!!!! anyone could of touched the food and flies and birds etc. it was also cold so we refused to eat it and left. outragous behaviour will be reporting to food hygeine and standards. you cannot serve food to an empty table esp when the people are pregnant and a child. have used this place many times but never will again. and they didnt even disinfect our table

The owner absolute misery! order coffee was like hot milk! ordered 2 sandwiches, 1 come out, waited 25mins for the other and they forgot! sour faced staff! then got palmed off with a free pastry. Not for me ever again.

We stumbled across Cafe Zio by chance on Saturday. Good welcome although they were busy. We sat outside facing the sun in a sheltered spot. Good menu choice from breakfasts, burgers, fish & chips, sandwiches & cakes. I chose the cajun chicken wrap - very light with succulent chicken breast, red peppers, mozarella cheese all nicely grilled to perfection & a nice side salad . My partner ordered a bacon & eggs sandwich which looked great as well with nice thick lean back bacon. We shared a side order of chips & glad we did as they were superb light & very crisp. I had a latte which is most probably the best I've ever had, lovely & smooth 10/10 & my partner coca cola. The staff were all really helpful & great service. The cafe is also dog & child friendly. We'll definitely be back & soon to support this family run business.

Sausage and egg sandwich - no butter and plonked on white sliced sandwich bread. Unpleasant taste, slow service and over priced.

¡No vayas allí si quieres un vaso de agua del grifo! Esta mañana me rechazaron uno después de haber traído el desayuno y una coca cola. Me dijeron que era porque no podía tomar un vaso debido a la situación actual. Incluso habría pagado por uno de papel (aunque esto todavía habría significado haber gastado la mejor parte de 10). No tuve esa opción. Eso lo resume todo. Parece estar dirigido por una mujer dominante y controladora, que me rechazó un vaso de agua del grifo. El resto del personal es agradable, amable aunque tímido con ella.

I eat a lot of cooked breakfasts in a lot of different cafes, and this was the worst one i've ever had.. ever. The cook brought out the plates of food and was quite abrupt and rude. Obviously won't be returning.

This is my second visit here within a week! Excellent food selection serving all day breakfasts, sandwiches, mains & drinks. Not forgetting the scrumptious cakes!Delicious food & delightful service by the waitress. I will be back again & spread the word to friends & family who are fellow foodies.

I went to the marina on a Sunday for breakfast with my children. Cafe Zio was very busy with people sitting outside we decided to have breakfast here. The first thing I noticed, upon entering the cafe, was how clean the white floors were!! The lady behind the counter was pleasant and welcoming. We ordered three breakfasts and two coffees and tea. The bread was fluffy & soft and the butter creamy. Bacon was tasty and the sausages succulent. I love my eggs sunny side up and I don't always get it this way but here the eggs were perfect!! The coffee was a delight - had a flavoured strength served with warm milk as asked. My son loved his tea. I definitely recommend this little cafe - a tasty breakfast with a full flavoured coffee served with a smile!!

Ordered 2 flat white coffees and watched the staff member make it with 1 shot of coffee to which I explained and said it should be two. She then shrugged and said ok, and put another 1 in each. The coffee was disgusting, neither of us drank the coffee it was poured away full. The milk was burnt and had no texture, the coffee itself was awful and bitter.Awful service, completely clueless, suggesting they are a cafe and can’t make a simple coffee, they should be shut down.

Why can't someone stop the member of staff that continues to feed the gulls as they cause problems for customers and an unhygienic mess!

Had an amazingly tasty lunch. Filo cheese and ham quiche with home made coleslaw dressed salad leaves and couscous salad. Highly recommend a visit.

Wish I had seen the reviews before I wasted my money in this awful place , the greasy breakfast was served on a stone cold plates making the food cold very quickly , the coffee was weak the colour of dish water and the seating area and tables needed a good clean ,the staff at Zio cannot get the basics right which is sad when people pay good money for food and service which on our visit was terrible

Was at the marina and saw rhis place so thought ok support local businesses instead of the big guys. Wish I hadn't was cold inside even the her was wearing a scarf and the server a hat. Food included a drink tea or coffee only it was filter coffee only Instead of paying the 30p difference for a latte got charged the full price.

Cafe Zio is a great place to stop whilst in the Marina, great breakfasts, home made cakes and decent coffee. Has tables outside facing south so guaranteed sunshine on a sunny day. Dog friendly too.

Came here for a drink on a Sunday afternoon. Stood at counter for ages whilst all staff ignored me, finally was asked what I wanted. Ordered a tea and a coffee. Cup was chipped and dirty, drinks and teapot placed on counter without so much as a smile; when I asked ( logically) for a tray I was tutted at, dirty plastic tray shoved at me. How else did the surly woman think I was going to carry everything to my table without one??? Then I had to ask for milk- was handed a jug of left over milk - not given fresh milk in a little jug as would be normal- obviously someone’s left overs- in a filthy jug with a hard yellow crust around top and spout- absolutely disgusting. Woman was as miserable as sin as well. Vile experience and won’t be returning.

Lots of cakes looking a little tired and the coffee was cold. But that’s ok on a hot day! The staff are indifferent and take their time. Staff more interested in replenishing the cutlery when customers are waiting. Only use if desperate!

I have visited this cafe on several occasions but have been put off because of the seaguls and pigeons that the place attracts. The tables outside often have bird mess on them and customers are often harrased by the birds that are actually encouraged by the staff that feed them and put left over food on the tables for the birds! Customers are expected to eat at these unclean tables. I would question the standards of hygiene at this establishment.

A great little cafe. Massive choice and portions. Very nice people. If sitting outside switch on your awareness radar for the marauding seagulls.

I went to the cafe yesterday and the salad was merely a few bits of cucumber and tomato and some green the omlette was lovely. But I had taken my Gran last week and had the same omlette and salad. This was so different a lovely salad with cous cous and hummus and a lovely salad much more creative and thoughtful than yesterday. So I feel disappointed especially paying 7 pounds for it !!

Whilst waiting for our order to be taken my friend and I witnessed a thoroughly disgusting breach of food hygiene regulations. The very young assistant had made a hot frothy drink, perhaps a latte or hot chocolate. The contents of which had over flowed and spilt down the sides of the cup. He proceeded to then wipe the drips off from around the cup and the rim, from where the customer would be drinking from, with a yellow wet dish rag, stained with brown marks! My friend said to him 'I hope you will not do the same with my drink' he replied no after turning a shade of embarrassed red. He then served this to the unsuspecting lady customer who was sitting at a table out side.

Visiting this cafe the other day was one of my most enjoyable experiences, the staff were all smiling, good music was playing and the cafe looked great with the great big doors open. My food arrived quickly and was definitely filling. I was greeted on arrival with a smile and had left with one myself.

Me and a few friends popped in yesterday (20/01/18) and throughly enjoyed our stay. We was greated with a smile from a young lad behind the counter who was very efficient with taking our order and crafted my cappuccino in front of my face with a pretty impressive pattern, the food was great and my friends milkshakes looked out of this world and tasted amazing too!

Initially ignored then served by a surly woman with her loose. Cappuccino was lukewarm and lacked froth - in essence was just a milky coffee. No toilets. Certainly no smiles. Forgot our breakfast order despite the cafe only seating us and a man on his own (they also forgot his tea.) It's a shame about our bad experience today as it's been ok in the past.

Watched a lady plunge her bare hand into the jar of marshmallows before adding them to a customers hot chocolate. I’m afraid that rather put me off. My cappuccino although made in front of me was cool enough to drink straight down. Not really expecting to return again after this visit.

Could do with washing the tables and cleaning the floor now and again. Place is filthy. Wouldn't recommend.

Food was good quality, fresh and generous in size, but everything from the floor to the pictures on the wall were filthy. Some staff members were pretty grubby too - will pass by next time.

We stayed at local hotel but decided that this place looked better. Great menu and they were very flexible with "holds and adds." Staff were very friendly and polite, and the young lady has a very good sense of humour, Cappuccino with no milk!!! after Haloumi special with no Haloumi... Great coffee (did have double shot for my cappuccino and a smile with the service.One big suggestion, wipe down seats to get rid of water and dew before people arrive!!! Nothing like sitting down and getting wet butt to start the day... Same for some tables.

One of the few independent eateries in the Marina and always popular for a snack, breakfast or lunch. Good fresh food with a varied menu and they are always happy to adjust something to suit. Well worth a visit.

A great friendly cafe for Breakfast, Brinch, Lunch or just a cup of te or coffee. Seating inside or out. They do have daily specials.....but basically ask for what you want, if they've got it in you can have it!Great prices too.

Friendly staff make this small café a pleasure to visit.I only called in for a bacon bap and a cup of coffee (both of which I enjoyed) but I noticed a good selection of breakfast options, many of which feature poached eggs.Plenty of outside space, not so much inside, so a good place to sit outside and watch the world go by...

Our server was cheerful, obviously well practiced, and seemed genuinely pleased to serve us. My usual plea, that my wife is a chocaholic, resulted in a veritable saturation of chocolate on her cappuccino. His only slip-up was in forgetting milk for the teas, but his apology was so immediate that I forgave him!

I've visited this cafe many a time now with my partner and the service is always fast, the food consistently good and there is always allot of it witch is very important.Lots of options of food for breakfast and brunch.Great outside area to eat a real sun trap great for people watching and very friendly staff the we had the pleasure of meeting the owner checking on table and she spent the time for a short conversation even tho she was very busy. We visited Zio at the end of a day trip to Brighton, looking for somewhere to have some drinks.The service was ok. The staff (who were friendly and approachable) took our order and we were asked to take a seat and told us that they would take our order to us. It turned up in an acceptable amount of time and looked as we were expecting. I needed the toilet during our visit, but the café didn’t have any. I had to go on a hunt around the marina to find some. This was a big down-side.The special latté which we ordered vas very nice and good value, but the rest of the order wasn’t as good. The mocha and hot chocolate both seemed to be much more watery than it should have been, so didn’t quite taste as we would have liked. The milkshake didn’t seem cool enough. It was almost like they’d taken it out of the fridge and left it on the side for about five minutes.In short: - Staff are friendly- Speed is acceptable- No toilets- Specials are lovely- The rest of the menu is a bit hit & miss

Sat in the sunshine enjoying and latte and a nice snack . When along comes a lady with a very large dog . She not only went in and purchased items .she sat inside with her dog . Not very hygienic the people running the place should insist that dogs remain outside..Otherwise a nice place

Cafe Zio is bright and clean and serves a good variety of cafe style meals. It has tables outside as well as inside. I dropped in for breakfast and order a full cooked breakfast, which includes coffee. I didn't have to wait long for the food which was well cooked and nicely presented. I would have preferred the egg to be less well done but that was a minor thing. Service was efficient and friendly.

Smashing little cafe to sit in the sun, drink coffee and watch the world go by. Good range of breakfasts and too many pastries for my waistline.

My wife and I popped into this establishment for a light brunch and was pleasantly surprised with what was on offer. My wife had scrambled egg with smoked salmon on toast and I had feta, advacado, tomato with poached egg on two slices of toast for £4.95. Delicious, plentiful and well presented. The portions were so plentiful that my wife could not eat all hers and I ended up finishing it. With food and prices like this, these small businesses deserve supporting.

Great for a cup of tea and they offer a great selection of homemade cakes. New staff have made a visit much more friendlier than before,it makes such a difference!

We visited Brighton Marina and wanted a quiet place to have a coffee. We found Café Zio. The staff were friendly with smiles on their faces. It really looked like they enjoyed working there. It was so nice to see. We had cappuccino and cake. You could tell the cake was homemade and my boyfriend and I loved it. The cappuccino was made perfectly. We would definitely go here again next time we are at the marina.

I usually visit here when doing my big shop in ASDA.It's genuine cafe with a good choice of menu,friendly efficient service and good atmosphere.I usually have one of the breakfasts ,of which there are a selection.It is well cooked with a generous portion.The cafe is spotlessy clean as staff keep it so.If you are a smoker there is a terrace in front for you to enjoy.....when the weather is good.The only thing it lacks is a customer toilet so you will have to go to Asda on the 1st floor for that .

Cafe Zio never lets me down. After living in the marina for a few years but then moving to another Brighton location, I still come back to Zio regularly to get my fix of marina life. It's a great location to sit and have a coffee, read a book or newspaper, meet friends or just people watch as the world goes by. One of the few places where you can sit outside and when it's nice and sunny I can spend a long time here. I'm fussy about my coffee and Zio's is the best (better than other coffee shops in the area). The food here is home made and it's clear the people who make it are passionate about food. It is not an expensive place to eat a good lunch unlike some of the other places around. So if you want a tried and tested 'never let you down' cafe with excellent coffee, a fantastic location that won't cost you an arm and a leg this would be my recommendation. Well done Zio - keep doing what you're doing and don't go changing!!!

What a lovely charming coffee shop. The staff are so friendly and make you feel so welcome. Fantastic home made cakes and food, anything from an all day full cooked breakfast to a super healthy spinish quiche. free parking in the multi story and there is also a local Asda supermarket, so perfect way to relax after a food shop. I would recommend it to anyone.

One of the few places open early. Standard cafe with a continental feel. Had a coffee, which was good and inexpensive. Pity I had eaten since the food being served looked appetising. Very pleasant staff. The place was clean. No loos - you have to use those in the Marina.

I am a regular, and I come back for the lovely home made quiche and soups they do; also their meals are of generous size (especially salads & fish &chips) and always have experienced friendly and timely service. Highly recommend for the coffee as well: good price and delicious taste!

I met a special friend for coffee here and it was a perfect settin. Its at the entrance to the marina and a small mall with interesting boutique shops. We had a nice authentic Italian coffee and a light pastry. The service was friendly and attentive and the price was reasonable.

Such an amazing experience!! Lunch with such a good service , food with a good price and really tastefully!! I had a homemade qiuche with a huge portion of chips and salad my husband had a lovely homemade chicken pie.Service was excellent nice and polite staff.Thank you

Well what can I say cafe Zion is a gorgeous cafe in Brighton marina always busy , the food is to die for such a wonderful selection to choose from, all cooked freshly to order, they do lots of specials daily if your a cake lover this is the place to go.. The staff are always friendly and have big smiles and are happy to accomadate you Defoe the best place for an early morning breakfast to a late lunch ........

Very good service. The staf was smileing and was very kind every time. They have great home made cakes and food as well. I love to visit that place ofen.

Most awful food I have ever been served. We went for breakfast. The table we were allocated was dirty (sticky) and after five minuets I had to ask for a cloth in an attempt to clean the table myself. It was refused, our tea was served and still a filthy table, it was wiped after a second request to the person who brought the food. I had ordered and paid for (in advance) a bacon toastie and my friend ordered an omelette with cheese and tomato. Mine was dry, the "toast" was hot bread black on the outside and completely un-appetising in every way. I had only 1 bite before refusing to eat any more of it. The omelette was also dark brown ( very very close to burnt) on the outside and grey on the inside. More scrambled eggs than omelette and was also refused. There was no effort made by us to complain as the staff did not seem either attentive or competent, neither could be seen as we left and there was nobody behind the service counter at the time. An experience best forgotten.

Great cake, fresh and home made, perfect with a cup of tea and good value as well. Always worth a visit if the sun is shining

Well the food here is very good and well served, they also have great take away service. Nice fresh cakes and smiling service often in the sunshine.

Visited for brunch. Had a baguette with avocado, bacon & chicken. Whilst beautifully presented, was difficult to eat.Husband had a club sandwich. Good sandwich menu, cakes & hot & cold drinks. We have been visiting cafe zio for years & I expect will continue to do so as its reliable.

We love this little cafe - have a lovely breakfast and sit and watch the world go by. Good selection of fixed breakfasts or build your own - even caters for veggie. Not particularly cheap but all wholesome and freshly cooked.I don't mind if you stay away - it means I'll always be able to get a table !!!

Very nice cafe, great choice on the menu. Always enjoyed breakfasts at Cafe Zio and coffee and cake too!

A lovely cafe with excellent homemade cakes and good simple food. Try the all day breakfast with scrambled eggs and salmon , recommended! Indoor and outdoor seating in the sun, right next to the shops and very near a bus stop. Very friendly staff and you can bring your dog too. Enjoy.

never noticed this little cafe before, but went in with my dad for a birthday lunch and was very pleased.The server wasn't the most chatty person I've come across, but the chicken salad was fab, a decent sized portion that filled me up and a lovely pastry afterwards.Dad enjoyed his sausage and egg baguette and his fruit cake was really moist and full of cherries (his favourite) so he was happy :-)Reasonably priced as well.

Two of us popped in for lunch. The cafe was quite busy but we managed to get a table. Our sandwiches were good but the small amount of crisps/nachos served with them were stale. The tea was fine but the coffee not so good.

Decent breakfasts, sunny location. Cafe options in BTN marina are fairly limited and uninspired. Zio is reasonably priced, does a good full English and most of the staff are friendly (except one po-faced miserablist, who had a stinking cold when I was there, and should not have been serving food).

One of those rare things these days, a cafe that does a really good breakfast. There were a good few options, but I went for No.1 and was no disappointed. Sausage, two bacon, scrambled eggs (or what you want), beans and two has browns. Not a ground-breaking offering, but all cooked just right, with the hash browns being particularly good, as they were nice a crispy on the outside with fluffy insides. Comes with a cup of tea/coffee and two rounds of toast. What more do you need to start the day. Yeah, you can get a breakfast cheaper in the Wetherspoons, but I'd pay extra for this any day. Staff all seemed friendly too, despite what has been said before and I will definitely go back.

I cannot even rate this restaurant ,why did i go there when there are so many within the Marina,i ordered fish and chips ,i did not have to wait long as it was frozen ,whilst waiting the cooks help came out of side door and complained about the smell of fish turned to one customer said you smell it ? horrible !!!,at that point i felt like going ! next i had no salt and when i asked i was told it is everywhere look ! i said i cannot see it and was handed brown sauce ! i explained salt was a white powder you shake and did the actions !,as the meal goes i had a very small portion of frozen fish " reheated " half a plate of salad which was fresh but i did not fancy it and a very small portion of oven chips which were pretty good ,i was hungry an hour later so went home and cooked a meal ,

Stopped off here on our way back from a poor meal at Weatherspoons for ice-cream and coffee and have to say we were disappointed with this place too. The ice-cream was quite granular in texture and the strawberry one had some sort of nasty aftertaste. The lattes also tasted incredibly bitter, and I couldn't finish mine as it was simply vile. Won't be going there again I'm afraid.

hi this is a great little cafe and very popular in the marina with residents and shoppers.. i can see why. lovely choice of food .. fry ups and healthy options as well .. i had a great greek salad loads of delicious ingrediants and dressing .. and really reasonable prices. coffee is under £2 . The staff are really friendly and welcoming and seem to have a great relationships with many customers.. cant see what lucy b is complaining about ! i know the owner from past visits here and she is always nice and friendly !
