Cafe Roma in St Albans

Great, local coffee shop. Almond croissant was delicious. Customer service was exceptional from Bantu. He chats to all the customers and makes everyone feel very welcome. I will definitely go back.

Such a lovely independent coffee shop in St Albans. Coffee is great, lots of pastries on offer and incredibly friendly staff who are so welcoming. Dogs encouraged and most welcome!

Excellent local cafe. The coffee is delicious. I also like the selection of pastries. And the staff are attentive and friendly. Only downside is the WiFi as the Cafe does not have guest WiFi, only The Cloud which many times does not work.

I recently moved to St Albans and today I have finally tried the coffee here. YES!! Only yesterday I was disappointed by the taste of another business I won't mention here, and I went in here with apprehension (I'm Italian, from Rome!), but was so so happy about the coffee, I'm actually leaving happily humming along. This is the taste of good, balanced coffee as the Italians like it. I hear the owner is not even Italian, but German... Well, well done you! See you soon and very often!

A little cosy Caffe on Peter's street with good choice of different variety of coffees and cakes. We tried almond and pecan tarts, not bad prices.

Fantastic coffee and dog friendly! Staff all seem to love dogs which is great. I just wish there was more options for savoury food, but the cakes are delicious.

Although it is a little cramped inside for seating, the cup of tea we both had was delightful... so tasty and lovely " home from home" experience.... the cakes were 😋 😋 and the staff very helpful.

Lovely independent cafe, great coffee and really welcoming. Dogs are also welcomed! The cakes look delicious but I restrained myself! They stock a range of specialist teas that you can buy, and sell panettone towards Christmas. Outdoor seating is available if the weather is OK

Called in after some shopping had a tea and millionaires Shortbread. Although with all the lovely cakes and pastries it was hard to choose. Service was quick and friendly. Throughly recommended.

Used to be great place for brunch. Now the food is expensive and poor. Pancakes were hard, cold and small. Coffees took ages. Two small hard pancakes is a bit mean for kids portion. 6x blueberries does not make a adults version! Shame as the building and atmosphere are great. Restaurant was only half full too. Dread to think what it’s like when busy!

We just popped in for a coffee whilst visiting St Albans and were very impressed with the service from a happy and friendly girl behind the counter. It's also a dog friendly cafe which is a plus.

Great cafe, top quality drinks, friendly service, nice easy-going atmosphere, thoroughly recommend. Food is limited to basically cakes and other sweets but the range is great and they are really, really nice!

It's a coffee and cake delight. Staff know their coffee, and also know how to make it hot. It is not warm and frothy but just right. They also do cakes and light entertainment if you have a window seat. Part of me wants to give it less stars to stop it getting too busy, but it is a wonderful independent shop.

Had a fantastic coffee and cake here with family on our Sunday wall. We came with a toddler who tried to drink daddy's cappuccino, and so we got a small cup of sarm milk with foam and chocolate powder. Very thoughtful.

Nice coffee, staff need to learn some customer relations skills. Very un friendly. That’s probably why there’s always empty tables / seats

Best independent coffee shop in St Albans.

As a retreat from the street noise and a chance to have a sweet nibble, I dragged Mummy Debra in here. Sharing a White Chocolate Trippin we fought together to cut the thing, bits flying off everywhere! Perhaps this is why the café worker didn’t offer us a fork but Mummy was left to for one. It was our first time tackling a tiffin; so, perhaps they are normally eaten with the hands and it was mummy’s faux par! Sitting on a sack-covered chair seat, we enjoyed our little sweet treat even if it was an arduous task to consume it. Mini Panettone hang from the wall lamps, perhaps trying to give a sense of uniqueness I was wondering whether the boxes contained the Panettone or were just for show. The staff member was friendly to a teddy bear and the place was almost empty. No accessible lavatory.

A great cup of freshly made coffee, one could select a choice of roasted coffee beans which is on displayed. Im not keen on the over sweet Almond tart. Self service, order, pay & collect.

Came in for a quick stop before the school run. Decent variety of products. Staff were a bit pushy for me to order so they could get back to their conversation. Not a very warm welcome. Outdoor seating which is a nice touch on a sunny day. The toilet is very Gulagesque and could do with a renovation. All in all an okay cafe but not really value for money.

I always hunt out the independent cafe's if possible & was delighted to find this friendly establishment on St Peter's St. Lovely staff & the coffee so good we bought a bag of ready ground to take home. Cakes & pastries also good. Would recommend

Very unwelcoming. Asked for a croissant. They have no butter. Went to pay. Not a thank you. Miserable staff. Very clear they don’t want to be there.

Nice aromatic coffee and pastries

As a start, very rude waiter. We asked for some cakes for take away and when we got home we realised they had packed different ones. And one of them, although they called it almond tart, it is not really a tart but a kind of sponge cake with some almond flakes as a topping. Very disappointing as from outside looks a very nice place for coffee and a pastry.

Come here for coffee every time I'm in St Albans. Never been disappointed, nice coffee and a good selection of cakes. Also being dog friendly is a big plus from me.

I have been visiting for years. The coffee is always good. The cakes today I returned as completely stale, I was given replacements and they were just as bad. We both eat some of it as we hadn't eaten since 10am and it was 3pm. I am afraid to say that is my last visit. Sadly, the new coffee shops and even Costa are considerably better now.

Not one of the best , But the best Cafe in Saint Albans . I met Gantz when he first Opened in 1976 , Caught up with him the other day ; when he quizzed me .I said 1977 . At that time I rated his coffee blends 10 /10 . To get good coffee in those days I had to travel into london , which I did every weekend .He has ,Without fail : (kept the same standard) . Top man , The Staff are top notch ... Polite , caring , & Attentive . Georgie .

Stale cakes. I complained to the waitress who said yes they have been in the fridge. I said I cannot eat that can hardly cut it o bite through it, she gave me another, which was exactly the same. No smile, no apology. I will not be visiting this establishment again.

Went for a cuppa after looking through the lovely vintage Market. They have tables outside so it seemed a good option. Two people serving and the young girl was smiley and pleasant. The cake was good too. However serving tea with a teabag floating in milky hot water was a disappointment and perhaps the gentleman serving would make the experience better if he smiled at least once and tried to engage with the people paying him decent money for his offerings. It's okay and the location is great but I think I will try somewhere else on my next trip.

my self and husband went in for tea to day 'what a grumpy man served us.no smile.could not compar the service here to what you get in costa coffee a few yards down the road.no hand santizer.and had to put youre cup in bin which you had to lift with up with youre hand thank goodness i had hand santizer with me

Nice food and drinks, friendly staff and a wonderful atmosphere. Food is a little bit expensive but I would definitely recommend Cafe Roma over the chain coffee shops. 10/10.

This is a lovely small cafe and supplies wonderful sweet and savoury food and wonderful drinks. In terms of price, it tends to be a little more than big chains like Costa, but this is to be expected and is worth the small extra. There is also a smaller variety of drinks and food than large chains, but there is most certainly enough variety for most tastes. In summer there is outdoor seating and iced drinks are served. The staff are friendly and happy to help, and keep the cafe tidy and clean. Overall a lovely cafe which I would recommend over the larger chains

Nice enough place, decent coffee and you can sit outside if you want to take in the high street. Unlike 99% of other coffee shops, the music wasn't jazz or samba cover versions, but some prog rock, like Tales of Topographic Oceans or some such, so marks for originality in that respect.
