A tad on the expensive side for a very simple cafe but well worth it to see my vegan nephew's face when he tucked into the marinaded tofu in a lettuce leaf wrap (looked way better than I'm describing it and he thought it was amazing). All our choices were tasty and accompanied by healthy drinks that were just as tasty.

beautiful afternoon down in the bay, smashed a good 10k run, lovely outside seating in sun --- so, hot, sticky and dehydrated I ordered and sat down and desperately waited for my water and salad ---and waited, and waited, and waited - and other lunchtime guests served first -- so had it to go and limped off in search of a shower. Been many times before and it is what it is but perhaps not a refuel stop.

We've visited the Pure Kitchen in the summer, when the outdoor seating was available, but recently we visited during the winter and went to sit inside. The food at the Pure Kitchen has always been lovely, fresh, organic. Lots of options for vegetarians and vegans. The muscle builder salad is excellent. The upstairs restaurant is filled with natural light, with beautiful views of the Millennium centre, outdoor fountains, and the rest of Cardiff Bay. It is so relaxing to sit and eat by the huge glass windows. There is disabled parking around the area and a multi story car park across the road, a short walk away.

Wanted to try the breakfast here for ages. I have to say it was quite a disappointment. My dish was ok, but my partner's pancakes were inedible, they tasted purely of eggs?! He had a banana and mango smoothie, which was lovely, I opted for a berry smoothie which was completely tasteless. There were only a couple of other diners there and no music, so no real atmosphere. We won't be returning

I am always a little sceptical about cafe's that advertise the fact that they are healthy, I prefer the menu and the food to do the talking. The setup is a little cramped, and the service is ok. What really disappointed me was that the food although good was by no means excellent. I ordered the pancakes and whilst many people simper about the food being fresh surely this is what is expected anyway? The pancakes were good but nothing special, I particularly was not impressed with the price. Too expensive in my opinion, I have nothing against spending money for good food but have eaten better food for far less in Cardiff. I can only surmise that this is another enterprise praying on the health conscious just been to the gym hipsters that permeates so freely today.

Recently I had a great meal at the pure kitchen. It was lovely sitting outside the restaurant by the water fountains on a sunny day. I had been looking forward to going for a long time and wasn't disappointed. I particularly enjoyed the 'build your own salad' where you chose a salad base, topping and sauce for your meal. And also the 'build your own smoothie' which worked in a similar way. There was a great selection of food for vegan and vegetarians, and lots of healthy but unusual foods were available. I will definitely go back.

Popped into The Pure Kitchen after work mid-week for some healthy food. Said it was open til 6 but they appeared to be cashing up at 5 although when we asked they said we could still order. Ordered 2 cauliflower pizzas - found out the card machine didn't work so had to go to the nearest cash point. Annoying but not their fault. We then saw that they did organic wine so we ordered a bottle of red. 10 minutes later it arrived - a bottle of "fruity red wine" by Blossom Hill.. Definitely not organic. Having paid £20 for the bottle, was a bit annoyed to be presented with the cheapest bottle of red from the nearest shop. Queried this with the waiter and he offered us a tenner back as they'd run out of organic wine apparently. Told him we didn't want it and eventually got a refund. Food was actually really nice but quite a small portion for the price. It's got so much potential but they need to tighten up the service and be honest with customers when there are issues or if they're going to try and scam customers out of organic wine, at least buy a semi-decent/organic bottle from Saisnburys!

Wandering round the Millenium square on my first visit, we visited this cafe because my partner had waited nearby for a coach and had popped in for a cuppa, previously. Being a bloke, the option to eat steak at lunchtime would always be an attractive one, especially when it is being pushed as a healthy option, how could I refuse? We waited upstairs for our meals, which soon arrived along with a carafe of water. Hmm, steak, salad, hard boiled eggs, no bread, no chips, no stodge at all in fact. The lovely moist complex salad off set the protein in the meal beautifully and every last little bit was eaten up. I had a coffee to finish and left feeling full yet somehow refreshed, rather than 'bulked out'. Finished our 130 mile drive home and arrived still feeling satisfied. My partner enjoyed her meal just as much. A lovely meal in a relaxed and modern environment, which as made me look again at how my daily food intake is made up. A new way of eating...... maybe!

Ordered steak, poached eggs with broccoli and pine nuts. How would I like my steak? Rare please. Chicken for the lady, £23.00 lighter off upstairs we trot. The food arrives quickly, so far so good? First problem, wrong side. Rice instead of broccoli. Not a deal breaker, the waitress leaves to swap it out. I look down and notice my poor steak is drowning in water from the eggs. Also, my hopes for the delicious rare and juicy 6oz steak were shattered when i saw the limp and fully cooked frying steak. After picking away at it the side finally arrives, I decided to show my amphibious steak to the manager. He wasn't impressed with myFeedback, he seemed quite offended that I didn't want my steak with water and implied it was normal. They offered to swap it out but at this stage I'd given up. In short, very substandard for the price coupled with uninterested management.

Slow disinterested service. Servers unable to get an order with modifications right which is not good when claiming to be a healthy restaurant who can cater for all needs. Served rice when. Asked for no rice and when the plate returned it had been scraped off with rice pieces still in the salad. Friends steak looked like it had been run over. Ordered pancakes on pancake day, took 30 minutes to arrive & had to ask for the fillings that were advertised on the board. The only saving point was one of the servers shouted to us as we left I'm sorry about this all today, he wasn't our server and didn't need to apologise on his colleague or service failing business' behalf. Such a shame, great concept, great marketing within the city centre & online but the reality shows empty promise.

We also we entitled to free pancakes as it was pancake day and these were ordered with the rest of our order. We had to remind staff that we had ordered them and when they did come only 2 dishes came rather than the 3 that we had ordered. Moreover we had to move all our main course plates to the side as no one bothered to clear them. Pancakes we awful aswell very eggy and lacked flavour. Awful experience. Great place, great location! However the food is healthy without a doubt but is no different to what I could make at home, yes it saves me the time and cleaning up but for the money I believe there should be food with a bit more spice, flavour, uniqueness. It's regular super good super healthy food but to make it stand out there just needs to be that twist of café pure touch to really make it stand out from the rest. If that is done then it can be far more successful indeed. Also if the meat was kosher or halal that would be even better and technically the meat would be a lot richer.

After hearing a lot of good about this place on Twitter, I was quite excited to check this place out. Having looked up the menu before my visit, I was already torn between what I would have - so much on the menu sounds so tempting and as someone who is not normally a breakfast person, to say that I was excited to try out breakfast there certainly says something! Like many people, the idea of eating healthily is important to me, but when it comes to eating out, it's not always easily put that into practice. Well, thank you Cafe Pure for making it so simple. On arriving, I was greeted, offered a menu and pointed in the direction of the seating area. While the décor, to my mind, is a little too clinical, the wall of windows overlooking the fountains, Millennium Centre and Bay beyond, is a lovely feature. Being located above Craft In The Bay, I had hoped to see a little of the Welsh artistic culture reflected throughout the cafe, but perhaps this is something they can explore in the future?!Having finally settled on what to have for breakfast the morning I ventured there (poached eggs with smoked salmon and lean bacon), I was very pleased with what was then brought to the table - beautifully presented with a slice of lemon for the salmon and some orange slices as well, I was already impressed. The eggs were cooked beautifully and the bacon (naughty, but oh so nice) didn't disappoint. My only complaint of the breakfast itself would be that the poached eggs weren't drained very well at all. At the bottom of my dish was rather more liquid than I'd have liked; this would be easily rectified and certainly wouldn't put me off ordering them again. The coffee I ordered with my breakfast did leave me wishing I'd ordered tea instead, but this could well just be a personal coffee-preference thing. I'm not sure what blend of coffee they use, but if you decide to opt for something else, you certainly won't be stuck for lack of choice as the beverage list (including juices and smoothies) is quite extensive. I can't wait to head back there for brekkie another day - too many things on the menu for me to try, and not just breakfast choices, the salads available for lunch sound delicious too!

Ok, I'll start with the worst first. My husband ordered a latte---with an extra shot. We looked at our receipt upstairs to find out that the total for the small double shot latte was £4.50!!! £4.50??!!!?? Say whaaaa??! So, he went to question it. The manager said, "Oh, yeah, that's the button on the till." (Which was for an Americano.) He made absolutely no effort whatsoever to correct it in anyway. The way he handled it, my husband was absolutely shocked and will never be buying a coffee there ever again.I ordered the Make Your Own salad. It was really filling. Poor selection of dressings though. Being a "healthy" cafe, all they had to offer was Piri Piri Sauce, Terryaki, Chili Sauce and I think one more. Husband order a cooked breakfast which was average.By the way- overheard a lady asking to see their carrot cake and the manager said, "It's in the fridge." (...Ok. So show her!) But, that's where he left it. Needless to say- don't think we will be returning...my husband definitely won't be.

Great concept, love the extensive healthy menu and personally think it is just what Cardiff needs however the dining experience itself isn't very good. Staff are friendly but service is very slow and the systems they have in place don't seem to be running very smoothly. Didn't like that you have to fetch your own cutlery and the queue to order is always long and very slow due to there only being one till. The food is nice and the menu has lots of tasty healthy options. However on the two occasions I have been where I ordered the same salad, I received two completely different plates. The second time I was missing both walnuts, avocado and blueberries from my salad despite it being listed on the menu.... which left it largely just leaves and chicken. On going back downstairs to inform the staff, it took a good 10 minutes for them to bring the missing components to me, by which time I had already finished my meal after being so hungry from the initial long wait for food. The smoothies and juices are very nice and I do rate them highly.... however they are very slow at making them again.Overall a good idea and nice place to enjoy a healthy lunch but I wouldn't recommend if you're looking for a nice and relaxing meal out.

Young enthusiastic staff, eager to please, and the healthy food looked appetising, but no cake on display- in the fridge we were told, so we didn't see what we were getting until we were served. The cake wasn't bad but portions were small. My coffee (Americano) wasn't great- the bean and roast tasted OK but the coffee was flat and watery (they said something went wrong with the machine). Standards in Cardiff have improved so much recently that they will have to pay attention to the details- there is a lot of competition in that area. We've visited about 4 times now. Both my partner and I are keen on healthy eating so we love the idea but until some fundamental things improve, I don't think we'll be back. Customer service/experience:The first couple of times the food was great - really good - but we waited a very long time and the place really wasn't that busy. When we were served the food we didn't have any cutlery so had to ask. A few minutes later it showed up - on both occasions!!! Not the best experience for customers to watch their food going cold. It also took 40 minutes for an iced tea to arrive... After we'd chased for it twice and been told it was on it's way. When it did turn up it was so weak the water was almost clear... It hadn't seen a tea bag for long!!!The last two times we just went to get cutlery ourselves as I noticed where it's kept. We weren't advised to so I can't confirm if customers are/aren't supposed to! One young lad behind the till was great, really helpful and friendly however a couple of the waitresses - not so much. Food:First 2 times, despite the wait, was great!! Ingredients were fresh, lots of fresh lemon and orange slices with the salads, generous & quality well cooked meats - especially in the omelettes which really impressed my partner. We also asked for water and got given a jug, glasses, ice and lemon. The 3rd time I was less impressed - my tuna steak, which is supposed to be accompanied by a nicoise salad was made up of green beans, rocket, 2 slices of cucumber, 2 slices of tomato and 2 olives!! Less than half of the first 2 times. The 4th & final time - the only difference was that I had 4 olives! The 4th time;We asked for water with Ice & lemon again. We got pointed to glass bottles by the window with plastic cups that have definitely seen better days & weren't appealing to drink the room temperature tap water from. No ice. No lemon. Not only was it clear that cut backs were being made by the 'salad' but the meat in the meals was AWFUL. It's the main reason for this review. The tuna was wet and tasted off - it was a brown/grey colour & was sat in water as if it had been cooked earlier and just heated up. I couldn't eat it so asked the waitress if there were any other steaks I could get, she came back and said 'the chef said they're all the same'. She was about to leave so I quickly asked if I could have a chicken breast instead said that I'd pay & wouldn't mind waiting for it to be cooked. Less than a minute later she came back with a bowl of grey looking chopped up chicken sat in a cm of water. It was obviously pre-cooked & just heated it up. It tasted awful so I just left it. This seemed to be the case with the other meals too. My partner had always had meat based meals in there & his omelette on his last trip was an over cooked mix of egg, grey chewy steak, grey watery chicken and chorizo (which he did say was good!) It's such a shame - please go back to freshly cooked meats & focus on faster, more efficient service. With the amount of gym go-ers in Cardiff - the place could be a goldmine!!

Cafe Pure is focused on healthy and fresh foods, smoothies and juices and it's located right next to The Millennium Center in the beautiful Cardiff Bay. The set up is just as good as it sounds; the menu is really nice, even though not too many choices for a vegans (I hope this will be changing though) - but other than that a great variety of healthy, clean and delicious foods to choose from. The smoothies and juices are brilliant too! The cafe itself is classy, nice and white and offers just the right atmosphere for this kind of enterprise with their little plant cups on the tables and the grass details that are used in decorating the place. You can also sit outside which is great! On top of this the service / staff is great. They are eager to help and discuss on what it is you are looking for. They seemed pretty knowledgeable about nutrition which I really appreciated. Also they were extremely friendly, I love that! I also love that they offer The Pure Package, which are home delivery diet meal plans. This means you can choose from two options either a 1400Kcal or a 1800Kcal plan and then they deliver a 5 days worth of prepared food to your doorstep. That's 3 meals, 1 snack and 2 drinks a day!!! I mean that is just beyond cool! It was nice anyway so shouldn't complain.I also have the fruit juices which I always find nice and similar to the ones I make at home myself and I enjoy a wheat grass shot which is just an overpriced novelty if you ask me but its all part of the experience. The one thing I would say is every time I have been there which is twice in the last month the staff are really really miserable, I don't get it? You would think in a health food cafe they would want to show how happy and energised they are with all the health!! But no, they usually just snarl at you, make you feel an inconvenience and are generally kind of unpleasant.

Great idea for a café! Good choice of healthy options that actally leave you feeling satisfied!I had the anti-oxidant salad, which came with a choice of sauce and the detoxifier juice. One of the tastiest salads I have had, definitely recommend! It was quite busy when we arrived at 2pm and yes service was a little slow, but the fact that it is quite small with a little kitchen doesn't help! But that wait was definitely worth it!

I visited Cafe Pure after seeing a few friends raving about the place. I have to say my visit met expectations: delicious and healthy. I managed to grab some tasty lunch without the sins. The prices are relatively average for Cardiff Bay restaurants but it didn't feel like I was breaking the bank for what was a really nutritious meal! I did initially try using the order online for collection facility on the website, but this does not allow for ordering collections for the same day, which is a shame! Food-wise: I have only tried the grilled chicken hot box with teryaki but I am determined to try the other delights on the menu! The only dilemma I am struggling with is what to try next..

I've tried this place about 4 times now, initially putting the slow and inconsistent service down to start up teething problems but 2 months in there's no real improvement. It's a great concept, healthy food with plenty of options but not quite sure what the issue could be with getting orders fulfilled quickly and correctly, there's always plenty of staff behind the counter though they mostly seemed panicked and confused. Get the service right and it's a winner.

I eat out a lot in Cardiff, and this is the only place around that has a wide selection of very tasty, healthy options on the menu, as opposed to just about everywhere else that seems to specialise in menus reliant on white flour and chips based meals to test my not very steely resolve. Reading other reviews reminded me to have the protein pancakes again, really delicious, and the Paleo steak, filling and healthy. Clever, imaginative use of sauces (e.g. teriyaki and other ones I can't spell on my own) really complement and enliven the choices on offer. I was moved to add this review by a takeaway anti oxidant salad I had a couple of days ago, its the tastiest salad I've ever had, the menu describing it really doesn't do it justice. Normally salads are like some sort of punishment I force myself to eat but this time I was genuinely disappointed to see the bottom of the container. Also the teriyaki sauce with it - thoughtfully in a separate container - was an excellent finishing touch. Even when its busy, I have always found the staff are always polite, friendly and helpful, and I shall continue to visit myself.

We visited the Cafe Pure today for the first time, and although the vision of the owners is wonderful, the manifestation is very poor. The emphasis is on "healthy food" which is admirable, but my friend is gluten intolerant and the only food that catered to her needs was a salad - we'd both fancied a jacket potato but were told that they were "no longer available." We ordered downstairs - where there were about 8 people squeezed into the tiny space which serves as a kitchen, drinks prep area, food prep area and till - the lady who served us was lovely, but unable to use the till without guidance (perhaps she had only just started working there) so things took a long time. We went upstairs to eat - we would have sat outside as it was a lovely day, but there weren't any tables available. After a 20 minute wait, our food arrived. My friend had a tofu salad which was about as interesting as a tofu salad can be when no attempt has been made to coax it into something that tasted good...and I had a coronation chicken baguette. And this was where the cafe falls short of its dream. Coronation chicken should be a succulent, creamy delight, flavoured with subtle spices and sweetened with raisins, almonds and possibly apricots. This was a few pieces of grilled chicken - totally flavourless - on a soggy, part baked baguette without butter, without mayonnaise, without anything moist at all. All the saliva my mouth had vanished within 2 bites! On the top were a few limp pieces of iceberg lettuce that was beginning to go brown around the edges, and 4 halved cherry tomatoes which were squidgy. Beside the baguette there were some bits of rocket and a few tinned sweetcorn. After a few mouthfuls I had to beg some mayonnaise from one of the waiting staff - it took a while to arrive, but at least it made the food edible. All that - a few bits of grilled chicken, dry bread, bits of lettuce, soggy tomatoes - for £4.95. Not acceptable, I'm afraid. I'm sorry, but this does nothing for the image of healthier food. Everything served should be fresh, crisp, beautifully seasoned with herbs and spices and glowing with life. In short, inspiring. I feel that their mission is too evangelical - it felt as if they were out to "do me good" even if it didn't taste good! I travel to the US a lot, and always eat at establishments that have a similar ethos to Pure, but who actually work hard to deliver the goods, rather than just place a few pieces of fruit and veg around the place and hope for the best. And - sorry to go on but I feel passionately about this issue - it is perfectly possible to offer a selection of attractive, nutritious desserts that go beyond fruit salad.Their slogan is apparently "love your health". I'd suggest that they starting by loving their food.

Our food took over half an hour to arrive & was not worth waiting for. Healthy does not have to mean boring or tasteless! We had a tuna baguette (boring but adequate) & a chicken 'hot box'. The hot box was under flavoured although it did come with a store bought sweet chilli sauce which it desperately needed. The staff were friendly & helpful but a bit slow. Just not good enough especially if you compare to a chain like Pret a manger. They need to be more inventive & bring out the flavour.

I'm so surprised by the negative reviews on here about Café Pure - I could not praise it enough. Lovely, clean and fresh space, friendly staff and delicious (HEALTHY!) food. Absolutely loved it, and can't wait to visit again and try all the different bits off the menu. A welcome addition to the bay!

The longish and narrowish structure of the restaurant gives you the impression that you are on board a ship. This is a really good feeling. You order downstairs and the food is delivered to you upstairs. The menu is innovative and interesting with lots of detail about the carb, protein, calorie, etc., content of the food. Our party had Paleo Fuel salad, Carb Cutter salad and chicken, steak and salmon hot boxes. These were enhanced with Peri-Peri, sweet chill and teriyaki sauces. The smoothies were very moreish. An excellent experience - we will be back.PS: the attached stylish modern craft shop is an added attraction

I've been here a couple of times and the food is lovely but it could do with being more Vegetarian friendly. As in: not having to make up your own combination of salads if you don't feel like it - only one main dish had no meat or fish and not one of the salad meals was meat free. Obvously they'll adapt if you ask, but it's nice not to have to ask.We think we're healthy eaters so were surprised to have to ask.

I have been a customer at cafe pure on 3 occasions and each and everytime time I left there my first thoughts are "I'll definatly be returning" always greeted with a smile or a good morning from the cheerful friendly staff and on my most recent visit upon being served at the til the young lady said to me "hello, nice to see you again" which I found very welcoming considering how busy it's been on each of my visits and still I'm remembered. The food has never failed me and has always been of top quality in both presentation and taste ... and then gives the feeling of always wanting more, hence why I keep returning ... All in all I love this place friendly, fantastic food, great premises in a top location can't ask for anymore ... 'Cafe pure class'

After seeing amazing reviews and comments on Facebook every 10 minutes by my friends and family, I had to give this place a go myself. The food was outstanding (I mean it's meant to be healthy but tastes better than any junk food I've ever eaten) the staff are very friendly (busy but that is always a good sign) and the location is fab. I tried the tuna burgers, to die for! Photo attached. Well over due in Cardiff and I feel we should all support local businesses that are trying to do something different and healthy in the area. I will be back...

Been several times since it has opened and never been disappointed. The shakes are exceptional(taste and protein), the protein pancakes with the drizzle of peanut butter are lovely and filling. The hot boxes are ideal to take away and have after work. Staff are always friendly and service has been good even when busy. The best thing to happen to health conscious people in Cardiff.

I've visited Cafe Pure a number of times and tried quite a few things from their menu. I love it there and it's a refreshing change from the norm as it's so healthy and everything freshly cooked and prepared. You can really see the concept behind the whole idea - these people really know their stuff about healthy nutrition!! The food is great - the paleo steak, eggs and spinach is a favourite and the protein pancakes are epic! It's normally such a struggle to find healthy food when eating out and when a standard salad bores you to tears but Cafe Pure is the answer. Yes it's busy, as all popular places are, but it's THE ONLY dedicated to healthy eating place I've found in Cardiff. I can't recommend the place highly enough!

Went last weekend for the first time. All 5 of us ordered the cooked breakfast. It took about half an hour for the meals to turn up. When they did arrive they were stone cold. We sent them back and asked for a warm meal. After a further 40 minutes the new meals turned up, but again were barely warm. We had no apology from staff and felt fairly ignored throughout. Don't waste your money here. There's much better elsewhere in Cardiff.

Walked in for lunch at 1pm on a Tuesday and 10 other people were there wondering where to queue and order. No help from staff. There was a menu board on wall with nothing written on so no idea what they actually serve. There was an A board outside advertising a Sunday boot camp but no mention of food. I left because I had no idea where to go, what they sell and how long it would take to get my lunch. I doubt I will try going there again

Visited for first time on a Saturday morning. It was busy. Despite staff working flat out, we waited 35 minutes for breakfast. Seating upstairs has a good atmosphere but the food was disappointing and not as described - nothing like the expectations after having read their Facebook page. Expensive for what it was and not that good. Kitchen space is cramped and badly ventilated, service area was smelly from burnt oil on the grill.

Lovely spot to stop for a coffee & a cake on the commute into the city centre. Coffee was lovely, service very friendly and there's a good range of bike items and reading materials on offer. It was glorious sunshine when I visited so enjoyed sitting by the sunny window.
