Cafe Naz in Belfast

I am not one for normally leaving bad reviews but after the service that my friend and I both received last night, I felt I had no choice. This wasn’t my first time at The Naz but unfortunately after last night, it will be my last. So where do I start, myself and my friend had booked a table for the 2 of us, only to arrive and find a table of around 10 men sitting behind us who were shouting so much that we couldn’t hear ourselves think or speak. Now I am all for going out and having a good loud laugh with your mates but there is a time and a place, and The Naz is certainly not it. We politely asked the waiter to see if they could do something about the noise and the request was laughed at and ignored basically! Then another waiter came over to inform us that my friend’s order had been served to another table, instead of offering to cook her up the same meal and apologise for the wait time, he just told her to take a completely different meal. Then when we had just about finished our meal, we were then asked to move to another table as they wanted to use our table for another booking, do bear in mind this was still within our 2 hour booking. All in all it was not a great experience , especially when you work all week, and look forward to a nice relaxing Indian and wine on a Friday night. Fair to say it was far from relaxing last night, as we both left with thumping headaches!

Tasty food, properly cooked and delicious. Great value. Great service. Best menu we've seen in an Indian restaurant. Lovely spicy combination. Not overly saucy. Old quality meat. We keep going back now every week. Beats even Brick Lane for flavour and price. Favourites are saag aloo, the mixed starter, dansak, jalfrezi and balti. Nana are fresh and nice selection of chutney for crispy pops.

Always have ordered great Indian from here. The quality is great and lovey flavours. Recommend their Korma and their meal deals for value

Horrible food, horrible staff. Especially Jack. Very unpleasant. I think always overcharge. Worst Indian in Belfast. Will never return.

We have been doing a bit of food travelling over the past few weeks and this has to be our favourite spot so far, would definitely call it the best Indian in belfast!

We just had dinner in Naz tonight for first time ever. We were lucky they had a table for us, as we stumbled in by chance because other places on the Ormeau were booked out. We ordered muttar paneer and vegetable korma, and both were delicious. The egg fried rice was outstanding, and the naan bread tasted really fresh and made on the premises - a delightful change from so many restaurant naans that taste the same as the ones in any supermarket. The sauces in our two dishes were fabulous, packed with flavour and freshness, but without being cloying and without the radioactive colours that some Indian restaurants here feel obliged to add to their dishes. The service was brisk and friendly, and the whole time we were there there was a constant stream of people calling to collect take-aways. Obviously a lot of people know how good the food is in Naz, I'm chugged that we are now part of that group. I can't wait to bring the rest of my family here to taste their food.

Great fresh food, service friendly, restaurant has been recently redecorated and there was high attention to cleanliness while we dined. Have used the restaurant regularly and despite challenges facing all restaurants - Naz hits the mark for excellent food and realistic prices!

This is one of the bad experience for me and my friends. Very very low quantity and unhygienic items, I don't recommend this to anyone

People, AVOID this fake Indian restaurant, awful , foul smelled food, rude and unhygienic staf. Clearly this restaurant spoiled our anniversary dinner. Never ever had an this kind of awful food in NI. Both currys were clearly 2-3 days old and can smell from first bite itself. Seriously this restaurant needs council review.

So my husband and i went in to the restaurant and ordered a takeaway, the customer service is crap and the food is tasteless, we WILL NOT BE BACK AND I WOULD ADVISE ANYONE TO AVOID THIS PLACE

Pleasant surroundings but the food was mediocre. Starters were average and typical of most Indian restaurants. The main course of chicken was too tough to eat.

I have been coming here for Ten years and can honestly say the food is great, never let down. Friendly staff and boss (Mitu) always comes to say hello. Favourites from the menu would be Mixed Platter and Chicken Pokora to start and Lamb Naga and Chicken Tikka Madras. What a spot.

The naz is amazing the place the customer service is great very friendly and nice people. But the food is more amazing you never go out hungry from there.

Booked a table for two for 6.30 saturday 18th. Turned up only to be told they had no such booking? They had clearly subsequently got a more profitable offer as the place was laid out for tables of 8 and 10. A lot of ulster rubgy fans about! So beware. Your booking counts for nothing sadly.

The food was nice enough, no complaints there. However I found the staff could have been more friendly and one waitress in particular was downright rude when I asked for a straw for my drink. She looked exasperated and said I should ask for everything I want at the same time to save her going up and down the stairs. First time in my life I have ever been 'told off' by a waitress for making her have to work too much!

Awful. When we arrived the restaurant was empty and we were greeted quite coldly. It was around 9pm so we got the impression that they just wanted to close up for the night (even though we had booked a table) I asked for any vegan options to which they said “yes we have vegetable dishes but probably have animal in them” so I asked them to ask the chef and he left for about 5 minutes and came back and said “we don’t know, there is probably animal in every dish” I was so disappointed and confused that even the chefs didn’t know their own dishes?? So we left. I would never come back as the service was appalling and I would absorb avoid as a vegan.

I’ve been going to the Naz for a few years now, often on any occasion to celebrate with family and friends. I have noticed though that the service has taking a serious turn for the worse.. the food is ok but the service really brings it down to the point that I feel uncomfortable. The waiters come across as hostile and unwelcoming, and with it being so quiet during the week you would think they would value our custom.I really hope the service picks up as it has put me off this once enjoyable restaurant.

The food was unreal, great selection of curries and starters, we got the set meal for 6 and we were stuffed! Best Saag ive had in Belfast. Also BYO so worked out very cheap for the meal and drinks :) will definitely be back.

Been to The Naz on a few occasions and it's always been great. Tonight as soon as we arrived just after 7pm we were told immediately we had to be off table by 8.30pm which wouldn't have been a problem except we were rushed through the meal, plates were going to be cleared while 1 person was still eating. We were told again at 8.10pm that we had to leave and the bill slapped down on the table without a word. What a great way to make your customers feel welcome. Food was good though so I can't fault that.

Ordered for collection and arrived before it was ready, waited 5 minutes then they came out of the kitchen with it. I live a 2 minute drive away and when I got home and the rice was ice cold and must of been sitting in the container all day or even night as it was all stuck together rang to say this was the case so they could maybe deliver one to us but was shut down saying that it was "not their problem" and "he checks his food so I'm wrong" which is could be true but the rice must have been sitting as it was certainly not fresh. Ended up chucking one of the rices out and microwaving the rest. The actual curries were fine but tasted sour due to the awful customer service and rotten rice. Would have just accepted an apology but having him repeatedly deny the quality of the food was just pain weird. AVIOD

Después de varias comidas decepcionantes de varios indios alrededor de Belfast, tomé una comida para llevar del Naz y me encantó la calidad de la comida. Se convirtió en un favorito para mi compañero de casa y para mí, y después de casarnos, continuó siendo uno de los favoritos para mi esposa y para mí. Recientemente llevamos a los suegros a cenar y también les encantó. Como tal, recomiendo encarecidamente el restaurante y el personal. Si cena en el restaurante, la fuente mixta es un excelente comienzo para una mesa para compartir.

10/10 y definitivamente el mejor restaurante indio que he probado en mi vida. La comida siempre es de primera clase, el servicio es excelente por parte de todo el personal y un ambiente encantador dentro del restaurante. Gran selección de platos veganos de entrante Aloo Chaat y Veg Jalfrezie como favoritos. Gran selección de platos para todos los gustos, incluido GF. Ubicación perfecta y puede acomodar a grupos grandes. BYO! Altamente recomendado.

we actually nearly turned at the door but decided to look past the exterior. so glad we did. food and service was excellent. also bring your own as there is no bar.....great wee off licence few doors up that were excellent at wine recommendations.

Last night I had my first ever Indian at Cafe Naz. I have to be honest wasn't sure what to expect. First of all, the menu was completely baffling, I must have read it twice and still not know what was what. Not a salted chilli chicken in sight. All the staff were very pleasant and welcoming. We ordered a mixture of food to share for our table, the king prawn was a highlight however I was not warned that the entire prawn was not edible. I can still feel that tail sitting in my crevices this morning. I couldnt tell you what we ordered, it was a lot of chicken and a lot of rice and who knows what else, I didn't ask questions. All in all was a good experience as we brought a good few bottles of wine and the company was top class. I dont think i'll be back though, if I wanted to eat chicken and rice I'd have stayed at home. 4/5

Mi amigo y yo somos de Nueva York, por lo que estamos acostumbrados a la buena comida de todo el mundo, pero esta pequeña joya de Belfast nos impresionó. Increíble servicio, deliciosa comida y una excelente oferta de lunes a jueves. También BYOB así que golpea el viñedo en el siguiente bloque y disfruta!

Visiting Belfast for weekend, we had a wander down Ormeau Road looking for somewhere to eat the following evening. We had a look at menu outside which was good and main courses on average £8/9 we popped in and booked a table. On arrival the following evening the restaurant was very busy downstairs and we were shown to a table upstairs... have to say it was very cramped and felt there were too many tables in such a small area. The serving staff had to stand to one side to let each other pass. Menu’s were brought and I was extremely surprised to discover the prices on menu were on average £12/15 for main course approx 50 per cent more than advertised!!! I have to say the food was lovely... no complaints there... unfortunately I could not eat all of my curry and rice and requested a “doggy bag” again I was taken by surprise when I was handed a plastic container and a brown bag!!! DIY doggy bag!!!

Stumbled across your beautiful restaurant by chance. We both are a big fan of Indian food and we were not disappointed with your extensive menu.

5 stars does not do the Naz justice, this place is wonderful! I recently just visited the Naz with my friends and upon arrival I was instantly greeted with a warm welcome and friendly smiles from the staff, not only that I was seated immediately and given fantastic service ensuring that I had everything I needed. The food was beyond magnificent, it was the best Indian I had ever tasted. The staff were beyond helpful and gave me everything I needed. I will definitely be back at the Naz and recommend the Naz to everyone and anyone. :)

Our table for 4 was booked for 8.30. First of all one of our party was seated, and after she had poured water for us all, was humiliated by being told there was an error and that the table was actually got someone else, so she had to get up and rejoin the queue. We then waited 34 minutes for our table.

We would normally go at least once a month for a sit down meal however last night we opted for a takeaway and it was equally as good as the meal you would get at the table. The collection time was as agreed on the phone when the meal was ordered. Would definately recommend it as easily the best Indian food in the greater Belfast area

Called in Sunday without a reservation, no problem getting a table. Served quickly with poppodoms and pickle to gaze menu. We only had mains with nann and rice. Food was excellent, freshly prepared and piping hot, always a good indication that food is fresh.

Any time we have been to Cafe Naz, we have always had good service...either when suitting in or getting a take-away. The staff are aklways curteous and quick.

Popped in here Sunday evening for a meal. Food was amazing, freshly cooked, aromatic, plentiful, wide selection on menu, attentive pleasant service and good value for money. Will certainly be back

Was visited this place on last August with my friend while I came here to visit him. Basically my friend took me there to have dinner. And thanks him for bringing me there and get a chance to taste good food. Though they didn't prepare authentic Indian or Bengali food but the foods' are quite bit close to actual authentic.

Indian is my favourite food, I eat it every week. Whenever I visit Belfast I come here, the food is simply outstanding. Ask for the specials ,Lam Metih is unbelievably nice! Great service, great food one of nicest Indian restaurants in the country in my view.

Despuea de varios dias por Irlanda por fin un sitio donde te atienden de 10, correcto,educados,LIMPIOS y mucho,todo impoluto y una camarera hablaba español y nos ayudo a elegir . La comida estaba muy muy buena y un ambiente relajado que da gusto despues de tanto pub y gritos. Tienen unos detalles que da gusto ser cliente porque te cuidan mucho y sin ser forzado. Si viviese aqui seria de esos restaurantes a los que iria mucho.

Had a birthday dinner here with family.

We ate here at my birthday request with 5 friends as so enjoyed our last time here- we all had the starter platter and whilst we didn't think it had the quantity of previous visit most were very tasty. A strange pineapple type sauce with nothing in it was strange but I just dipped bhaji into it.

Esta es la mejor comida India en Belfast. Soy un cliente habitual (y llevar). La comida es estupenda y no demasiado pesado. Fantástica relación calidad-precio y un servicio amable, y el ambiente es muy agradable en el restaurante! Sin duda lo recomiendo! !

Tuve un kebab para llevar desde aquí, y honestamente puedo decir que fue lo más asqueroso que he comido. El pan estaba repleto con gravilla, la carne era pegajoso y sin sabor y todo estaba bañado en una salsa dulce y enfermizo fluorescent sólo cayó a pedazos en el momento en que la recogí. Nunca me suelo sentir la necesidad de comentar esto, pero esto era tan horrible que me sentí obligado. El personal parece encantador pero este era sencillamente ridículo. Nunca más.

Tengo muchos platos diferentes de eatten el menú y disfruté de cada uno sin problemas. El personal es muy amable y servicial, la Peshwari Naan es precioso y lo recomiendo a todo el mundo. Gran tamaño de las porciones y el ser. Y.O. es realmente útil. Si quieres un buen restaurante Indio a un precio razonable no vayas a ningún otro sitio.

We have just returned from a brief trip to Belfast and ate at Cafe Naz twice because it was so good. The food is excellent, reasonably priced and the service great.

DO NOT order delivery from here!!!2 HOURS we waited! And they made us pay for it! Didn't arrive until 10.10pm! And was FREEZING! Had to microwave!!! Why not say they are busy!

The starters in this place will make your taste buds very happy - we get the platter which is a mixture of different meats breads sauces etc beautiful. I love the butter chicken but I also love spice so I ask them to add spice and get the best of both worlds. Very accommodating and friendly staff. Bring your own is a plus.

Food and service here are excellent. Really friendly staff and you can BYO with a small charge. Highly recommend it

My favourite and the best Indian food in Belfast.The space itself is homely and compact which creates a livley buzz when the place is busy.The food is worlds away from the ubiquitous stuff u find in most .The food is fresh made with herbs and spices which you can taste.Each dish has its own special flavour and some sauces are unique to Naz.My favourite is dansak but Sally lamb.JAL JAL or anything.i have had has always been delicious.If I get a takeout it looses none of it's vigour in the transport.The staff and delivery guys are polite and friendly and I wouldn't eat Indian food anywhere else in Belfast.Too notch.

My children had taken me there as a birthday treat. It was a while from we had been together. On entering they didn't have booking, although we got seated. During the meal had thought staff were being very attentive, therefore we sat enjoying our meal and chatted opening another bottle of wine. A staff member came up a stated "there is a booking for the table' . We had not finished and we were enjoying are time together then another 2 members of staff said they needed the table. I was really annoyed to paid the bill and left our full glasses of wine on table. So if you are planning to have a meal and a conversation this is not the place to go at the weekend! Really disappointed and our night was cut short! Will definitely not be back

We went to the naz for a family dinner food was excellent and service was great we had tapas for starter we finished it in less then10 minutes coz it was sooooo yummy lovely staff told us let us know when you ready for the main so we raised our hand for main after a wee while and very quickly here comes the main and it was out of this world soooooo tasty loved that place will definately be back again soon thanks guys.

We went as a group of 10 on a busy night just before Christmas, the restaurant was packed and the staff were up to their eyes. This did not seem to matter, they were friendly and polite,even finding time to take photographs and serve us a lovely complimentary cocktail. The deal was amazing value, poppadoms with dips, mixed indian tapas and all this followed by a choice from the menu served with nann bread and rice. No corkage charge on our wine either. The food was delicious and everything was served exactly as it should be. We are looking forward to going back to beat the January blues.

I come here frequently with family and friends and in I don't know how many years, have never had an average meal! It is evident that all dishes are prepared freshly, the aromatics and flavours are simply delicious! The tapas sharing starter is fantastic and there is an expansive range of mains to choose from, always delicious! The service is warm, professional, friendly and welcoming, packed with regulars which is always a great sign. Byo is a bonus and when it's cold and rainy we opt for the takeaway which is the same consistent excellent standard of sit in! Don't even think about it, just GO! You won't be disappointed!

Had a family nite out and despite an extremely busy nite and staff under pressure they were brilliant . We had a bit of wait due to a table taking longer but They were courteous and couldn't do enough for us . We were given free starter tapos because of that which was a lovely touch . Dined at cafe naz on Friday 2nd Dec. The food was beautifully prepared and served by friendly waiting staff. We went for the deal which provided us with a delicious 3 course meal for £21.95 each great value. There was a bit of unpleasantness where the group at the next table argued over the price - seeming to expect two 3 course meals for £ 21.95 but the waiter handled it very politely and professionally. Bit embarassing for everyone else. Will def go back.

Dishonest pricing. The Naz' sign outside the restaurant and also the page given to us stated: Set Meals, 2 people or more: Naz Special tapas, Choice of 2 mains, 2 rice, 1 nan bread, 2 popadoms - £21.95 each.From reading this it was suggested that the £21.95 set meal included everything detailed in the advertisement, however upon receiving our bill we were informed that the £21.95 price did not in fact include what the advertisement said that it would (2 meals etc) and we were charged double. The bottom line is ultimately the advertisement stated that the meal deal included double what it actually did. Very disappointing, particularly as the aggressive manager refused to even consider that the wording was misleading.

Visited here with my other half and two friends on a very busy Saturday night, arrived on time and had a short wait for table but only a couple of minutes and was not really a bother as it was incredibly busy, Friendly waiter took us to our seats and took our BYO drinks away to the fridge for safe keeping, Friends had eaten here recently and recommended the £21.95 2 course set deal, it includes a fantastic selection of starters as a platter -plenty for 4 people but also do one for two people that i think is great and we will likely do that again if visit as just a couple, it includes all nans, rice,chips so great value we thought as well as the poppadoms. I had the Monkfish Jalfrezi which was a first for me and it was recommended by one of the friends who visited recently and knowing i love my fish and i have to say it was fantastic and a great portion, my better half had the Chicken Shahslik with a Tikka sauce on the side which we also took home and had a lovely lunch next day, Our two friends had Lamb Ghost which they said was lovely.We found our waiter was very polite,prompt and kept a good eye when we required our drinks, This place gets very busy and booking is essential at weekends-some people might not like the take away punters sitting close to tables at reception but that is a minor detail as its a business and they do need to have that side of the business-saying that i haven't sat there so cannot comment more than that.All in all this is a great little cosy Indian restaurant with real quality food and a nice Buzz -A night out for two for under £50.00 and drink your own beer with NO corkage is not bad in our books.Highly recommend.

Dropped in on a Wednesday night at 8pm after reading reviews on here.I was shown to a 2 sweater table. Water and popadums came reasonably quickly.But my mains order was not taken for 20 minutes . And that after I hailed one of the two waiters. My original waiter spent his time talking to two obviously favorite customers neglecting the other 12 people seated. I ordered lamb jal jal. A spicy pickled flavor dish. A large dish type plate arrivef. Plate was hot but portion looked small. Pilau rice came in small dish. Lamb was tender and sauce subtle deeply flavored. Nice meal.But I was stuck beside 2 middle aged educated bachelors discussing all night their friends who where girls. How boring and claustrophobic.Meal was not cheap really. At £17.45 expensive for hit and miss service. They even charged for popadums which are given free elsewhere. Overall food good. Service average. Price expensive. No privacy.

I'll start this review by saying that I can be hard to please with Indian food - I've travelled all over India several times, so the bar has been set high when it comes to authentic cuisine. Cafe Naz didn't disappoint - in fact my expectations were exceeded at every mouth-watering course. (I'm salivating as I write this!). Despite my girlfriends and I arriving late for our booking, on a packed Saturday night, our fabulously funny, charming, and knowledgeable, waiter, Mostafa, got us a table as quickly as possible and made lots of helpful suggestions about menu selections based on everyone's individual preferences. Mostafa also saved us a fortune by suggesting we try the meal deal for 4 persons or more. Basically, for £21 a head, we were presented with enough food to feed a small village with no extra hidden costs! I love that it's a BYO as I'm also choosy about my wine, and with the meal deal there were no corkage charges either.We weren't rushed through our courses even though it was a busy night, we were checked on regularly to see if there was anything else we needed, and when we told Mostafa we were celebrating a birthday, he brought us all some delicious shots - icing on the cake!Put simply, I cannot recommend Cafe Naz highly enough and I can't wait to go back for the best Dhansak I've eaten this side of Gujarat!

Great night out with my partner:) We had an excellnt dinner here. This restaurant is modern and romantic at the same time. The food was top class and freshly cooked, very well presented. Staff were very attentive and really add to the overall experience, worth it every penny:) I would definitely recommend this place as a restaurant for any occasion.

I was delighted with the quality of the food which I last ate here several years ago. The decor was basic but the service and food were excellent.On my most recent visit, the restaurant has had a face lift with stylish decor. It is small but the tables are well arranged to provide an intimate atmosphere. There is a great selection of dishes and the Chicken Pasanda and Karahi Gosht were superb.The restaurant isn't licensed but welcomes bringing their own wine or beer which they are happy to place in there fridge until you are ready to have it served.A very enjoyable experience, with good food, service in very pleasant surroundings.

Really loved it! Everything seemed very clean and well thought out. The staff obviously knew what they were doing and loved doing it! I loved the food , it was out of this world, tasted so fresh. I tried sit in and take away I was impressed about quality of food.This is a great place to visit. Wonderful friendly staff and reasonable prices. Amazing experience.
