Cafe Marseille in Northampton

This is a little gem. Gorgeous setting, incredible food and great pricing. Had to ask for water a couple of times and also the bill but those are minor inconveniences. Our server was truly lovely. Website says opens 9am Sundays, door says 10am so there was a little confusion but we were so happy we visited.

After seeing great reviews of this place, me and my girlfriend were expecting a good experience. We were happy that we were seated straight away with no booking. It then took 5 minutes for us to even get the menu. Then a further 25 minutes for us to even get served. It was infuriating that we saw customers with no bookings that came in after us get served before us. Staff would look over at us and not even give us the reassurance that we will be served until around 20 minutes of sitting around. After reading the reviews that staff went above and beyond for customers, we were left wondering why weren’t offered that same experience. Brunch portions were not that big either for the price we paid. Disappointing visit

I need to say after change of team this place came back to where it was. Delicious food, good service and atmosphere is as it used to be at the beginning. Worth to visit this place, you won't be disappointed.

I want to say nothing negative because on one level I enjoyed the experience. We were approached originally upon arrival. A polite period of time before we were asked for our order. Food arrived within 15 minutes. Around that time the gloss dulled. There were expensive glasses on the table, the whiskey tumbler sort. I presumed they were for water. As it happens I always order water with a meal and was surprised when it arrived in a hi ball glass. No slice of lemon was offered. Why no carafe? The menu then got confused. Firstly the font is really small and in the dim light was difficult to see. From what I could tell from the prices it was selling itself as a more premium brand with basic meals just shy of £10. Drinks also were more than many restaurants charge for the refillable offerings for just one bottle of Pepsi. Then this very obviously French place has an Italian crossover hint. Marseilles is nowhere near Italy so that confused me. I ordered the pasta with seafood. For many they love to leave things like muscles in the shell. Well, if they want to do that then ensure the shell doesn't break and end up being bitten into with the pasta. Likewise, it's fiddly removing shell fish with cutlery but I couldn't use my hand as there was no finger bowl. The decor was a little confused too and have the impression they had no store room. One cabinet displayed what I presume we tablecloths but actually looked like part of a hair dressers shop with rolled up towels. They've a piano which I presume is used in the evenings. However, someone had left their coat on the chair making it looking like a staff closet. These are simple housekeeping things which don't look attractive and detract from the premium pricing. The shrimps were the tiniest ever which may have been just the variety of overcoming, just adding them too soon. Their failings are silly and easily corrected. I did tell the waiter about the broken shells and she just stood there for an uncomfortable time until I suggested that maybe she just mentioned it to prevent it happening again. I'll go back, no one visit can define somewhere. Not correcting these silly things though would define them

Fantastic date night we had! The food was outstanding, complimented by great service. The tiramisu was the real highlight - we're definitely going back for it in the near future!

Absolutely beautiful! My 1st time here and what a find it was! Beautiful setting/environment, great decor and the staff are so professional yet approachable and engage with the customers. I can't fault the food - absolutely loved it! They have a good selection of drinks to. I have booked to go again in the new year so that I can take my husband out to dinner and let him smoke the food himself. Can't wait to go back 😁

Had a quick lunch. Both ordered the Croque Monsieur…… was burnt and definitely not a Croque Monsieur. It had Mayonnaise instead of bechamel. Or it was the worst bechamel in history. I know we are past the brunch time but it was terrible. Shame as was a lovely place and lovely staff.

For the first time we have tried the food here and we cannot recommend enough. The food was so tasty, hot and in perfect portions.I had the frogs legs which I found delicious, and the aubergines which were very tasty. Food, Ouality of service and atmosphere cant find a fault, I enjoyed it that much.

Was there tonight, one hour waiting for starter, then more than one hour for main courses and then nearly an hour for dessert, understaffed in the kitchen yet they let walk ins despite failing to serve pre-booked customers. Then came with a 10% tip added to the bill..what planet do the think the are they working on ! Won't ever go back.

Just ok - food average. Service, whilst pleasant, not very efficient - ended up having to walk to the bar to get service a couple of times. No veg with main courses - which would be fine,if told - then ordered snd told five minutes - which was fifteen and very meagre for the price. Crème brûlée curdled - told staff and had no response. Atmosphere very bright for a dinner reservation. Overall just disappointing and underwhelming.

We had my daughter's baby shower here , 14 close family and friends afternoon tea. staff very attentive, very accommodating with letting us decoratate area and tables lovely restaurant and great atmosphere , good price for afternoon tea , plus did vegetarian and one gluten free. will defo being going back Thankyou

Had a great meal here on a visit to Northampton. The food was really good - spaghetti carbonara, one 9 year-old had an adult's portion of sirloin steak perfectly cooked medium and fries and ate the lot. They do a "cascade tiramisu" which was very impressive and absolutely delicious. Nice room, good size, not too flashy, friendly waitress. Highly recommended, will definitely return next time in the area.

It was an amazing baby shower with a nice table position, good service, lovely food and although we had a misunderstanding of a dish that wasn’t the one ordered and we had paid a costly bill of over £300 I was ready to give a 5 stars but everything was ruined with a very bad attitude restaurant policy… a waitress came at end telling we couldn’t consume our own decorated baby shower cake cause the place sells desserts and there was an extra charge of £2 per person to pay in case we wanted to have our cake and she added telling “it’s something I think you won’t do it”. We could have our cake only if we hired the entire place. It’s a first time we had this kind of issue with all the restaurants we have been celebrating baby showers or different occasions. Well at end we paid the extra charge but unfortunately we left the restaurant dissatisfied.

Booked to go for a birthday family dinner. It’s definitely somewhere I will try again. When we booked, there was another really big party there, the restaurant realistically should have been booked out as it was a big party with a lot of children, that is the only reason I’m giving it a 3 for atmosphere, when I go back, this will I’m hopeful, change. However, service was great, the staff was really lovely, it’s a nice place and can see it does good brunches. The food was really good, we got the sharing board as a starter and main wise, we each had a different one, the one thing we did find was that the food was a little cold. The duck was cooked really well (tho also a little cold unfortunately) and maybe a little too salty but was still really enjoyable. I will definitely try this place out again, they also do jazz evenings which I can imagine are fun!

Great ambiance! A feel of home when you walk in the door, comfortable & welcoming. The wait staff is extremely knowledgeable and kind. The best espresso martini’s & French onion soup I have had! Highly recommend.

I took my Mum and Dad for breakfast to the Marseille.....Wow, decour is amazing, ambience from the music was fabulous and the staff are just lovely. Not to mention the food is banging 😎. The Marseille restaurant is a diamond in the rough and I highly recommend

Had afternoon tea, booked yesterday and requested a gluten free tea for 1 of the party and informed them of a wheelchair user as well. It was a perfect afternoon, the kitchen had a gluten free tea ready and access was really good. Food was lovely, the cafe/restaurant even gave us a box to take cakes untouched home, there was a few as got so full with the sandwiches and fruit...thank you for a lovely visit. Will be back for brunch!

We came here on a busy Friday evening. They had a live artist that was singing in that night, we must say it was one of our best nights having dinner in Northampton from the atmosphere, food and service. 5 stars

I have been going to this little Paris a few times now and what I can say is that every time the experience gets much more better. Also this is where I tried for the first time frog legs which I saw everyone said they are amazing. Both me and my partner have been impress with the service and the quality of food. Would recommend this place to everyone, once you go in you will for sure come back !

Came on a Sunday for breakfast, plenty of tables available. Place is decorated nicely and well kept. Staff are lovely too. Enjoyed what I ordered (full english). Juice is freshly squeezed. Will be coming here again.

We were in town for one evening, visiting from Texas, and stopped into this restaurant. The waitress, Denise, was amazing and very friendly. The food was equally as good…matched the service…AMAZING!

Exceptional service and great food! We came without a reservation and struggled to find parking, but the staff were incredibly helpful to solve both. Coffee, Croque madame, Crepes and pancakes all tastes very good. Staff were also very attentive throughout. We'll be back for sure

It’s okay. Service was good, but food was disappointing. A tiny toast with ONE egg, this was my first time ordering breakfasts and getting ONE egg with ONE small slice of salmon.

Held my baby shower here and everything was perfect. The location of the venue isn’t the most appealing but the inside makes up for it. The staff are all friendly and helpful and any questions I had prior to the day were answered quickly and politely. The afternoon tea looked and tasted amazing and the vegan option looked just as delicious. The interior decor was lovely - we barely needed any extra decorations which we’ve found is unusual for events venues in Northants. Would recommend the venue for an event or coffee/brunch and will certainly be coming back!

Lovely restaurant, a nice change. The beef bruschetta with pesto starter, was one of the best starters I’ve had. The pork belly with the gravy and red wine jus was excellent. The service was really good too. I will be going again. I highly recommend Cafe Marseille!

Like others, I've passed place many times over the years and never felt compelled to go in. Partly because it's difficult to determine the type of restaurant from the outside or its name (I wasn't convinced it was really a French restaurant). Also, it's in a slightly unappealing location. But we visited for brunch at the weekend and it was really good. Nicely decorated with some interesting detail, and seating for around 40 or 50 diners. The croissant eggs benny, and vegan breakfast we had were delicious, and good value for money. Will try for lunch or dinner soon.

Food was ok but small portions. The restaurant looked nice however the music was very loud which made it difficult to have a conversation with my family or to hear the waitress. The floor tiles were also incredibly slippery to the point I was afraid I would slip over as I could feel my feet sliding out from beneath me every time I took a step.

Went here for valentines day. The food was okay, waitresses were welcoming and lovely and the service was pretty okay too. There was a £10 discount for the specific meal we were having for that day, but a mandatory gratuity of £10 was later put onto the bill, which was a bit annoying.

A little Northamptonshire gem. Wish we discovered it earlier. One of the best meals we have had (and we do love to dine out). And the staff is lovely, everyone we came in contact with was polite and courteous. We will definitely be back. Massive compliments to the chef!!!!

We ate in your restaurant tonight which was lovely but didn’t expect to pay the price that we did. I looked on your website prior to our visit and saw the menu for £24.95. Tonight however, was £45pp for 3 courses. I looked again on your website whilst in the restaurant and the menu was for 2018! This was very misleading. I spoke to another couple who we met later and they had seen the same, but like us, were too polite to say anything. I think you need to review your website and update it.

Afternoon tea was good however some sandwiches were very dry. Service was fast and attentive. Very active atmosphere.

We are so pleased we chose to book here. It’s been a lovely experience, with wonderful food, great service and the restaurant itself is so pretty! We were brave and tried the frog legs and they were delicious! Favourite dishes were the beef carpaccio, the pork belly and the chicken casserole (for which, the name does not do it justice!) we will certainly be back again soon!

We had the last table on a busy Friday night. Great feel to the place and the staff were perfect and food was excellent. We loved the whole experience and will be back.

Had a lovely brunch on Saturday, daughter was keen to try the frog legs which were off menu but the chef cooked a dish for her, lovely relaxing place the French toast went down a treat as did the croque monsieur. Our table was perfect, the service was fantastic and only came to ask when they saw that the 3 of us were finished. It's recommended

Really nice and cosy place to be!!! Very tasty food, huge variety of dishes, relaxing music, quiet and warmth atmosphere, friendly staff and even kids corner. Impressed with the venue, everything to high standard.

Took my parents for a meal there tonight. Everything was cooked to perfection, I had the king prawn starter served together with my main, which was ratatouille and the two dishes balanced each other beautifully. My mum had the duck a l'orange cooked medium to well and loved it. My dad had the sirloin steak cooked to his liking. The deserts were equally delicious. I cannot rate it high enough, it was wonderful also being able to speak with the chef between our main and desert. The wine was also delicious and well advised by the hostess, who was highly delightful and professional.

Very nice and cosy place, looks really French style, and the food is delicious. Don't expect big portions (as is a French style kitchen. Therefore, the plates are not as big as you might expect. However, the staff is really helpful and serviable. Definitely recommend it for a nice meal/dinner. The breakfast, though, is the best. Keep in mind that there's no parking allocated, so you'll have to park around the town centre car parks.

Best kept secret or not enough advertising either way I popped in for happy hour on a Friday. Service was excellent, drinks were mixed to perfection and the two starters we ordered for nibbles were cooked to perfection. Prawns, the first dish and calamari the second. 100% going back for a full dinner service. Prices were very reasonable.

Had not been before but visited for wife's birthday. Food was excellent and prices reasonable (not huge portions but paying for quality not quantity). Service wasn't rushed (so would let them know if you are in a hurry) but great if looking to relax and chill. Good place if you want to impress a first date 🙂

Had my wedding reception at Marseille's and can truly say we received exceptional service and amazing food. Everyone has commented on how good the food was. A special thank you to Edita who understood my vision and executed to the fullest. She was friendly, kind, gave me extra ideas of what could be done and gave top notch service on the day. I really can't fault Marseilles. We will be back again and again. Thank you!

If you are looking for a lovely evening meal in Northampton, in a cosy setting, with a friendly and welcoming atmosphere and all at a good price, then this is the place to visit. Went for dinner early December for the first time and already cannot wait to go back. Everything from the atmosphere, the waitress, the drinks and food was impeccable. There is a lot of attention to the detail and thought put into this place, which makes it very special. We started with couple of very yummy cocktails, followed by wine and a charcuterie board (which has the most delicious garlic baguette crackers we've ever tasted), I then had the chicken casserole and my partner had the steak. Ended with creme brûlée and chocolate and vanilla pudding. Every single bite was absolutely delicious, the presentation of the dishes impeccable and it was just simply lovely. Cannot wait to go again and also visit for their brunch as that too looks very tempting!

We visited the restaurant for dinner on Tuesday. The appetizers came very quick like 7minutes. You have to try their duck from mains, its just10out of 10. We had all creme brulé in the end nd it felt very fresh. Also lucky they have drinks 2for1 on Tuesday to friday so we spoiled ourselves with few cocktails. Well Done Marseille Team !!! This will be our favourite restaurant 😊

Came with family (varying ages: 7month old-92 year old) for lunch. Everyone found something to enjoy on the menu. The food was great. The staff were amazing and friendly and did a great job. Lovely setting. We will be coming back soon :)

Somebody recommended this to us and I now know why… We loved having a relaxed dinner here. Really delicious French food and good service , the only downside the waitress conversation in English, we managed in the end.

Food was amazing. Could not fault it. Perfectly priced and beautifully presented, French cuisine. The service was slow at times and Italian waitress barely speaks English .You can use Google translator if needed. You will definitely need to book. It was very busy.

I tried frog legs for the first time and it was incredibly tender. I advise everyone to take them immediately! I also liked the coffee more than in other coffee shops. But the pancakes really needed more Nutella.

A great place for brunch, 100% recommended. Friendly staff and clean with great food and fast service. I searched all around Northampton for a good place to eat and was more than satisfied here.
