Cafe India Brasserie in Highland

Family early evening meal. The waiting staff were very friendly and attentive. We had drinks and our starter and then ordered ourcmain courses. Unfortunately one of our main dishes was not what we ordered. We did though accept it as no one wants to eat 20 minutes after everyone else. We were disappointed that the plates were cold, the plate warmers were cold and the restaurant was also cold! There was also no ambience at all. I know costs have gone up but no one wants to stay out for long when it’s cold. We ate our food and left. Very disappointing as we’ve always thoroughly enjoyed our local.

Was here tonight for a friend's birthday. Staff were welcoming and friendly. Went above and beyond to make our night memorable. Came with a birthday cake which we didn't ask for, which was a lovely much appreciated gesture. Food was excellent. Would thoroughly recommend********

We have a long and vast experience with Indian restaurants in multiple countries including India. We never have been disappointed by the Indian cuisine with one exception.....The food in Cafe India was not appreciated. Instead of the typical spicy and rich flavours the food came with a standard mild and sweeet taste.

Hadn’t been back for a while till recently but quality as good as ever. Well above average Indian restaurant and, in my experience, one of the very best in the area. Staff always really pleasant.

We had a family dinner here but although the food was ok it was fairly average but expensive. My issue is mainly what the restaurant was charging for drinks - a bottle of Blossom Hill rose was over £20, I realise that restaurants charge more but this wine is about £5 in supermarkets. A beer was over £6, which for Dingwall I felt was way overcharged. Service was good and the staff were excellent.

It’s with regret that I’ve had to write this review but after giving them the benefit of the doubt 3 times I’m devastated to say the food has not been up to the previous restaurant style quality standards and seems to be getting worse! Meals have been swimming in oil, the popadoms are burnt and the paneer dish that is advertised with cottage cheese never has it on the dish to name a few. It’s so disappointing because we used to rate this restaurant with top Indian restaurants in London and now it’s the worst takeaway ever. I hope the owner will take these comments on board and bring it back to the standards we used to have

Disgusting, had tapa lunch 2 bits old pakora, half a naan bread old chicken 2pieeces of tough chicken hardly any sauce absolutely feel ripped off paid and walked out waiter was hopeless avoid this place lt wasshocking service and food

Very confusing place!! We booked a table for 3 ppl. When we entered we were greeted well. When ordering , the waiter said we have to order everything together drinks , starters, mains. We said ok. Then he said we must order 3 mains for 3 ppl. We told him that. We want to order more starters then we will decide what to eat. We will order 6-10 starters as and a few drinks as that is what we enjoy the most. But no he was adamant that we must order 3 mains. Never heard of this before. Asked him to shows the t&c which he could not provide. So we had to leave as no restaurant can dictate what we order and what we cannot. Unbelievable place ??

Cafe India had been recommended to us and thought we’d try it. We were not disappointed. The food was stunning. Absolutely divine! I even asked for spinach to be added to my chicken tikka masala and it was done! The starter that I had was the Hindukushi lamb tikka. Wow! The flavour was just beautiful. The service was great, food delivered promptly and hot and very friendly staff. This place is a must if you love Indian food. Thank you

Up here on hols and called in here tonight - for the second time this week. Everything about the place was right. Beautiful Shank Of Lamb (twice) and my friend had Butter Chicken with Nan on first night and Chicken Tikka Masala with Nan tonight. On first night we had pints of draught Kingfisher and tonight bottled Cobra. Certainly the best I've had in a decade ...... the tastes, spices and sauces just right. Plenty of meat, fluffy Pilau rice and tasty plain Nans. Highly recommended

We arrived late in Dingwall town and nowhere was availability for us to dinner. We called Cafe India and they waited a bit longer for our family to arrive quite late at night, just before their kitchen closed. Even at this late hour they served us fantastic Indian food. Our 4 different dishes were all tasting and looking excellent. I ate in Indian restaurants before, and Cafe India's food stands out. The staff was friendly and accommodating to our requests. The lady who served our table let us take our leftover in boxes for our next day lunch. Merci!

Like many restaurants currently, Cafe India seems a little short on staff (only two waiters covering a fairly full house) which meant a fairly slow start to our meal especially getting a pre-meal drink. However, this quickly improved and when the food arrived it was well worth the wait. Our two lamb dishes contained a substantial amount of meat which was cooked to perfection, soft and falling apart at a touch with the proper lamb flavour so often missing in many places. The chicken dish was equally delicious. The sauce on all three dishes was well flavoured and appeared not to rely on over salting or artificial tasting additives. If we had a criticism, it would be that the Kingfisher was not quite as lively as it might be but that is a minor point and would not reduce our rating. We are frequent curry eaters and have tried many Indian/Bangladeshi restaurants over the years (including several in the Manchester area which is famed for it's curry-houses) and consider this one of the best meals we can remember. Sadly for us, we were only visiting Dingwall but if we lived closer this would be our "regular".

Traditional dishes done really well, with a good selection of vegetarian options. Fresh ingredients, fresh flavours, and generous portions. Has to be one of the best Indian restaurants in northern Scotland. Highly recommended.

I have visited twice this restaurant, the first time they sent us away because we arrived 60 minutes before closing time. We said that we will leave before closing time but the staff member was not interested, and was very rude, when I asked to speak to the manager it turned out that he was the manager.Second time, we man the phone booking for 8:30pm and when we arrived at 8:20pm we were told to that the table is not available and there will be 20 minutes wait. So we decided to takeaway instead of eat in, after almost 30 minutes wait we got our food and the quality of the curry and soggy naan was so bad that we decided to order a pizza and bin the food as it was really tasteless and blend. Not recommended at all

Had a meal here for my birthday the food was fantastic and piping hot. A great atmosphere and great staff. They even surprised me with a birthday cake and happy birthday song at the end of my meal which was a lovely gesture . I would highly recommend been here a few times and has always been excellent.

We had the Thali takeaway meal the other night, I cannot stress enough how delicious the meals were!! Ordering was super easy and could be delivered or collected. The price was exceptional as the meal for two served as 5 meals in the end. I can honestly say this is the best meal I have had in a very long time!!

My partner and I got a takeaway as the restaurant was not open due to Covid-19 but the restaurant looked lovely inside and we would love to dine in one evening when this is all over. We decided to collect our food, the staff were really friendly and we could tell it was very popular/busy. We ordered the Thali deal which was good value for money and most importantly delicious it was a great way to try a selection of dishes - There was more than enough food for the two of us, the portions sizes were great and the curry’s had lots of meat in, more than any Indian I have previously visited.We really enjoyed our meal and will certainly visit again when we are next in the area, I would recommend this restaurant.

Unfortunately we went on Valentines weekend and it was very busy, we waited just over an hour for our main course, I was a little embarrassed as we had asked friends for the meal as they hadn't been before. However when they food eventually arrived it was delicious.

Decided on a takeaway tonight. We live locally so we walked, planning to have a drink while we waited for our food to be cooked. Rachael, Mo, Sanara and all the staff were so friendly. It was nice to sit and watch everything going on while having a cocktail and watching the fishies in the fish tank. The food was good, exactly as explained when we ordered. After a busy week at work, it was nice to just sit for a few minutes, have a drink then go home and enjoy my food. The staff are so attentive to those sitting in. Highly recommend.

Fresh,tasty honest food. We eat Indian cuisine often when traveling from Orkney to South of England and this restaurant is the best. You taste the difference and vegetables are cooked to perfection. Beautiful restaurant with friendly helpful staff.Have eaten in this restaurant for many years and well worth travelling to,as our family and friends do. Highly recommended. Five Stars.

What a wonderful and memorable eating out experience, thank you cafe India and all the staff. my partner and I live in Glasgow, we came to the highlands for a short visit , on our first night we visited the other Indian restaurant in the town upon reading some good reviews on tripadviser, if I was brutally honest it was nothing better than average. Then we were told by the people at the bed & breakfast that we ought to try cafe India, as soon as we came in we were greeted with a warm welcome and the place was really busy for Thursday night. The menu was quite an extensive one, we were struggling to make decision what to order!!! This smiling gentleman ( we think it was the owner) approached us and said if you are struggling to decide I would love to help you. Told us to forget about the menu and make up our own dishes!!!!we left it to him, best decision ever. From starter to dessert everything was just Devine, even the cocktails were pretty good ( we were kindly given couple of complimentary cocktails as well) . At the end of our evening we found out cafe India has been listed in the Michelin guide for last 19 years. They definitely deserve to be in Michelin guide. Can’t recommend this place highly enough, we will most certainly be back and keep up the good work.

Thought we would have a nice relaxing curry lunch so called in. before I could even take my coat off the waiter asked again and again if we wanted the buffet or the main menu? I told him I hadn't thought about it yet. He spoke to me in a condescending tone and then stood over me waiting? Are they in such a rush to get people in and out as quick as possible, even when not busy? I told my husband I didn't want to stay and we left.

We chose to share a main and a number of side dishes. Every plate was a perfect taste sensation, cooked and presented beautifully and served with dedicated professionalism even a bit of silver service. We’re fans of Indian food and haven’t tasted better in the curry mile in Manchester or in the homes of Indian friends. We’ve tried every Indian within a 15 mile radius of Inverness and this is the one we’ve been looking for. Fabulous.

I visited with my husband, we were seated in a lovely private booth, and there was a warm, friendly atmosphere. The staff were superb, welcoming and jovial, whilst being professional. The food was some of the best and most authentic we have tasted, particularly the North Indian garlic chilli chicken. The house red was very good for the price, too. For pudding we decided to try the cocktails on offer - they were lovely, and they even happily made me one which was not on the menu. I would definitely recommend.

Lovely meal with grey ambience in restaurant nice traditional Indian decor. Good choice on menu with very effective service. Servings not the biggest I've had in similar competitors but still sufficient. Pleasant staff although when trying to purchase wine felt forced to order house version but this was not the best of quality. All in all good visit but a bit noisy with larger tables with groups. Would recommend during larger groups away from couple's tables. Would return.

We have been to this restaurant many times and have always had a good meal and friendly service. So much so that we would recommend it to others.

Visited the resteurant first time. Quite impressive, neat and clean environment. Food quality was very good. One comment about boneless chicken. Chicken krahai and tikka meat was a bit dry and hard with bigger fibers, may be from a heavy chicken. Quantity and quality Vs price was good. Will visit again sometime.

Dingwall is not exactly a metropolis, and we did visit in November...however this " restaurant " was empty but we were not able to have the buffet because we had not booked!!

Felt the service was abrupt (waitress was however excellent). Given a short time limit for a table even though it was empty. Food was below par but expensive now compared to other places. Generally if the food was excellent be happy with the service being eccentric, but I can’t recommend based on the slightly surly male staff and expensively average food.

Had a meal here on Saturday some of the friends expectations of Indian food was not met but when letting the staff man know our views we told not to come back , this I have never experienced before , Maybe the guy was having a bad day ?

My mother took me here for my birthday. I can honestly say that was the worst curry I have ever had. My mother ordered lamb curry and got chicken. My curry was not edible, that’s one curry house we won’t be visiting again.

My friend and I ordered a variety of dishes to try and they were all so very good. I highly recommend the tandoori king prawn starter. It’s pricey but insanely delicious. I don’t think they’re capable of making bad food. Go immediately if you can!

Hadn't stayed in Dingwall before so asked Charlie, hotel manager/receptionist at the Waverly, what a character by the way, where he could recommend? I couldn't have had a better meal anywhere in the UK and I travel a lot. I agree with the comment re: wanting you out quickly but maybe that had something to do with the rather unpleasant German couple sat nearby. Expensive but worth every penny. Best Indian meal I have ever had bar none.

Arrived for lunch which is supposed to be 12-2 we were there at 12.10 and tried to open the door. It was locked and a man was inside mopping the floor. We waited thinking he would come let us in or tell us the restaurant was closed or anything?! But instead he gave my mother a dirty look and we went else where. After reading reviews we’re glad we didn’t get food. Dodged a bullet there.

From start to finish this restaurant is fantastic, the lamb sizzler starter is tasty, chicken chasni is to die for and the rice is amazing, all round fantastic meal 😋 looking forward to our next visit to try something else!!

We came in with our toddler melting down and they knew exactly what to do to help calm him down. The food was excellent and reasonable prices. I recommend the Red Fort Chicken. Highly recommended overall.

Having not been for a few years, I was reasonably impressed at my recent visit. No booking required (albeit it was a Thursday evening), and was served quickly. There had been a few changes to the menu, but the food remained fresh and tasty. On the whole, it was ok for value; £60 for 2 starters, 2 mains, drinks and sundries.

We had a lovely meal, very tasty and service was quick and good even though the restaurant was very busy even on a Wednesday night. The only down side was that we were in a hurry and couldn't take longer to enjoy our food. Definitely recommend

We have been to cafe India many many times. Never had an issue with the food, never had an issue with the staff.

My partner and I visited this restaurant on a weekend away. The service was fast and generally friendly to begin with. We got our meals which were not the tastiest. Chicken was well cooked however the sauce just lacked flavour.

Very good quality food in nice surroundings. Cheerful staff. Popular even on a Sunday (which you need to ask for as it wasn't offered or set out).

A bit expensive personally I think but the portions were a decent size and to be fair the chicken and the lamb quality was faultless. The pilau rice was moist and tasty and the garlic nan was.perfectly cooked. So all in all a great experience so yeah when in the vicinity again I would return cos I think it probably is the best in the area. Thanks.

We were staying for one night in Dingwall, we wandered from the b&b; only to stumble upon this little gem. Excellent, great choices. Good service. Didn't wait to long between the courses. Helpful staff. Good quality seating and furnishings. The food was fabulous and not outrageously priced.

The service is good - just sufficiently attentive without being 'in your face' ! The food always trying new things and, most importantly, cooked to order - fresh ingredients served with a smile.
