Cafe du Soleil in Canterbury

Food was fabulous and top notch. Service was friendly and excellent. We thoroughly recommend this restaurant with great ambience next to the river.

Un endroit très sympa, chaleureux, très bien placé (tout près du centre historique). Cuisine ouverte qui permet de voir ce qui se passe en toute transparence. Nourriture intéressante et de bon niveau, choix varié. Service très friendly. Nous n'avons hélas pas compris le choix "gratuity" au moment de payer et du coup n'avons pas laissé de pourboire... que mon avis arrive à rattraper autant que faire se peut cette incompréhension!

I rarely leve poor reviews, this is the exception. We tried to visit on a Friday evening around 8.40, despite the web site saying they were open 'till 10.00, we were told the Kitchen had cosed, and they didn't seem too bothered...........we'll not be returning....

All of the good reviews are more than justified. The place itself is fascinating - if only those old city walls could speak! Wood fire cuisine is superb; service is friendly and efficient.

I felt compelled to write a review. My friend and I both had the ribeye steak tonight and it was one of the best steaks I've had in ages. The peppercorn sauce, onion rings, fries and side salad with Parmesan shavings were also top notch. I couldn't recommend more highly if you're after a good steak.

We have a lovely dinner. Absolutely superb! We had the roast chicken dinner; more than enough for two. Very friendly service

I can’t believe I haven’t been here before; the food is home made and delicious, service great and the building is lovely too. It was so nice to have a good Mediterranean meal in an independent restaurant. I enjoyed the spinach tagliatelle with vegan cheese and loved the fact they serve wine in 500ml carafes-why don’t more places do this?! Vegan and veggie friendly. We’ll be back for sure :)

Great place for dining any time of day or night. Wonderful service, great atmosphere and good food. The green grass partitions give a feeling of privacy no mater where you sit. We go there often for pre theatre meal. Always busy but never feel rushed or under pressure. Can highly recommend. Lovely setting right by the river.

We met at Cafe Du Soleil with friends who we had not seen for 30+ years. We really wanted this would be a special occasion. It was! From the initial greeting to the time (2 to 2 1/2 hours later) we left, everything was just perfect. The menu provided many options. We asked our server for recommendations, as a result of which my wife and I chose the sea bass. It was outstanding. While it is not cheap to dine at Cafe Du Soleil, we felt we had excellent value for money (approximately $75 each). Quite simply, this was a memorable experience. I strongly recommend dining at Cafe Du Soleil.

I have never written a bad review before but after my experience yesterday at Cafe Du Soleil in Canterbury I was so shock at the way they dealt with a complaint. About a month ago me an my partner dine there and I had the most beautiful Napoletana pizza. My partner also try some and was impressed we rave about it to friends. Yesterday we went back for lunch and was looking forward to the same experience. I order the Napoletana pizza again and my partner order the Marinara. When the pizzas came I was slightly taken aback how different my pizza looked, there was hardly any cheese and it was drowned in olive oil. My partners had no cheese on his and so many olives he had to pick them off the pizza. I try mine and after a few mouthfuls I couldn't eat no more as the oil was overpowering the taste. I wouldn't normally say anything but it was such a difference from last time. I asked for the bill and was asked if I wanted to box the rest as I had left 3/4 of pizza left. I very quietly told the lady that last time I was here this pizza was amazing but I found it uneatable as so much olive oil and hardly any cheese. The lady said she would speak to the chef, which I was unsure why she was doing this as we wanted to pay and go. We had to wait a while and then she came back with my bill apologising and stated that she had added a discount. When I look at the discount it was for £1.35. Unbelievable they might as well not bothered. Then they made us wait even longer to pay the bill.

Cute place along the river and the old wall of the city just down from Westgate. Open beam wood interior. Wood burning pizza oven. We had chicken saltimbocca and mushroom pizza. Food was very good and staff members were friendly and pleasant.

Lovely clean restaurant with privacy planting, wood top tables, stone floor and 17th century beams in the roof. Really enjoyed the meal as the hake was perfectly cooked (Mum) and the menu choice was good even for someone on a medical diet (me). French inspired wood fire cuisine. We didn’t try the wine list, but there’s a good selection. Outside seating with large canopy umbrellas for use in the better weather. Efficient and friendly service in a relaxed atmosphere.

Visiting Canterbury we popped in for lunch. Set menu, 2 courses £20.00 was very good value and they don't scrimp on the portion size. Delicious Carpaccio and Calamari to start, followed by a fabulous rump steak burger and beautiful resh pizza. Lovely riendly staff. A great place to go! We will definitely go back.

We went here after visiting the Malowe Theatre, which the restaurant is less than a 5 minute walk from. They offer a free glass of wine or beer when shown a theatre ticket. We asked for a soft drink instead which they were happy to do. We opted for passion fruit juice, as this isn't something normally seen on a menu, which was very nice. We both chose Chicken Saltimbocca for main course. The chicken breast was very large and cooked to perfection, with the pancetta on the outside nice and crispy. The sauce was full of flavour and complimented the chicken perfectly. It came with a tomato and mozzarella aranci which I thought was a great carb option for the dish. For dessert I went for the Burnt Basque Cheesecake, which our server said was new on the menu so would like some feedback on it. I thought it was delicious! Cheesecake isn't something I usually go for as kind find it a bit sickly but this was very light. The berry compote gave the right amount of tartness and the whipped vanilla cream was a great accompaniment. I think ice cream would have made the dish too heavy. Will definitely be back as the food and service were great.
