Cafe Dido in Leicester

Maybe I was not lucky that day, but jacket potato was just ok, and I had eaten much tastier ones. I had a jacket potato with chicken, mayo, and corn. I can mainly remember the corn because there was so much of it. The potato was flavourless, and the chicken was a bit hard and dry.

My daughter and her boyfriend needed to use the bathroom for a medical emergency today, and were shouted at by a woman who worked there, and humiliated in front of the whole cafe! My daughter was very polite in asking if they could use the bathroom, to which they were told by a lovely staff member yes. However another staff member proceeded to shout at my daughter in front of everyone. Viewing these other reviews, it sounds like this lady should just give up working with people. What happened to BE KIND! My daughter and her boyfriend needed help they're only 15, it really upset them.

I was served by someone who doesn't know how to be polite. Almost as if she was forced to work there. Face so long and miserable. Go to a cafe further along the road they will be much more welcoming there!😊

Visited here for the first time just before Christmas. Quick efficient service and very reasonably priced food of good portion size. I had a jacket potato and hubby a baguette. Our drinks orders were a little slow to get to us, but we had not noticed as we were chatting. The lovely lady who served us told us we could have free desserts to make up for the wait. A kind gesture, but our meals filled us up and we didn’t take her up on the lovely offer. Alas I didn’t take any pictures, but I can only stress how generous portions are here. We shall definitely visit again when back in the city.

Had the strangest cheese and tomato toastie, hardly any tomato and cheese that was more like scrambled egg. Will not bother again. However, the place was spotless.

The outside of this cafe draws you in because it looks fresh and inviting. However, as soon as we took our seats I realised the interior was less welcoming and staff looked bored. It was disappointing so we only opted for a cappuccino coffee. This had barely any taste, too milky, weak. So we didn't finish our drinks and left them £6.20 worse off.

I like to support small business' but I draw the line at paying £5.20 for beans on toast. I mean I wouldn't mind, but the bread was thin and cheap. The butter wasn't butter, it was stork margarine. Approx 2 spoons full of beans on top. Just really poor. Wouldn't return.

Ordered two full English breakfasts, then had to ask for cutlery, as it's not out for self collection. Then was asked how many? Why is was not supplied when they brought it I don't know, can't be their first time! Bread was spread for you! I don't like this as I want to apply my own spread. Small amount of beans, tomato hardly saw the pan, although it was not tinned so that was a plus. Bacon fatty. Overall average and maybe should've stuck to our usual but it's sometimes good to spread your business around.

Firstly we always try to use independent coffee/café shops when we can. So we called into Dido about 11.30am on a Friday morning, not particularly busy about a third full. Ordered a sandwich and a wrap, flat white and my fussy black coffee. I like it strong so asked for two shots of espresso in the smallest cup, I clearly explained what I wanted and why. Total charge £18.90. Coffees arrived after about 5 or 6 mins, my coffee served in a large cup filled to the brim. I let it slide. Coffee was quite weak. After another 10 mins or so no food. Gave it another few minutes and then my wife went inside to ask if they had forgotten the food order. "You're next", abruptly was the answer. After another few mins a young girl who neither of us had spoken to before served the food. "Prawns" was the surly call, she "plonked" that before my wife and then did the same with mine. Nothing else said. So, on the expensive side for what it was, food was tasty, coffee weak, even the flat white, service abysmal. Suggest you visit one of the other ones close by.

Had a lovely latte and Prawn salad wrap today. First visit, friendly staff and clean cafe. Food and drink both lovely.

Really popular for lunch - I had a vegetarian breakfast, four tomatoes, four pieces of toast, two eggs, and baked beans.

The staff are nice but the breakfast was really expensive and small. All the screens are off-putting too

Arguing with a client who is in a wheelchair because they made sure it there was butter on the potato isn’t something you should do when other clients are in the place. Talking over the client and repeating yourself in such a rude manner Isnt right. There is a better way of speaking that is more appropriate. And arguing should not be done either way. LEARN THE SKILLS REQUIRED for good customer service. This particular lady is always rude. Won’t be going back. She’s rude each and every time. EDIT SINCE CAFE DIDO REPLY: - Your reply speaks volumes and only proves how rude you are. I’d like to add that as someone who is in charge of an elderly groups and who have several elderly couples who meet frequently at cafe dido I can tell you I will be highly recommending them not to come and delivering this information to them.

A nicely decorated eaterie with a good selection of food available.

Great place in a nice area of town

Good service by the staff who were working hard on the Saturday morning we visited. Food was a little disappointing - notably the salad garnish with our paninis given the price.

Dead atmosphere (felt I needed to whisper), chewy food. Not great. Staff polite.

Disappointed as wanted soup to go. It was 320pm and I was told kitchen was closed at 315pm (they close at 400pm). Surely for s takeout you could make an exception especially as the soup was probably ready??? All staff wearing masks and seemed impersonal when approached

I meet here every Monday am to sit and chat to friends in lovely , clean , comfy cafe . We sit and reminiscent for 2 hours in a lovely clean , (in fact spotless ) environment offering a chilled atmosphere and comfy chairs . The food and drink is amazing at really competitive prices considering the close proximity to the town center . The staff ! All I can say is they are so smart , cheerful , attentative and brilliant . So nice to be served by such lovely caring staff . Well done , your professionalism certainly shows through . Well done . See you next week x

Nice food and drink, pleasant service , nice staff

Visited for the first time today when meeting friends. Friendly, polite staff welcomed us as we entered. Whilst the café wasn't packed, it was still busy yet our food was brought to the table quite quickly and tasted lovely. Staff were visible and keen to make experience enjoyable, attentive without being intrusive. Thoroughly recommend this café and will definitely keep coming back.

If you are still a little cautious about going out because of covid then this is the place for you. I visited in April and every table was sectioned off with screens. The staff were very welcoming and helpful when ordering from the menu. I shall definitely return when I next visit Leicester city centre.

Clean. Best suited to those still suffering from covid anxiety. Plastic screens everywhere and staff all wearing masks. Food basic and expensive with cold drinks especially expensive and coffee nothing to recommend it. To say that it had zero atmosphere would be kind. Update: to the owner -suggest you pop into Mrs Bridges across the road and check out their decor, offerings and atmosphere. Now that place is worth visiting

Stayed in Leicester for a few days and went here for breakfast on the last day. Wish I had found it earlier. Top quality ingredients, suasages and bacon where delicious. Nothing cheap or nasty. Everything beautifully cooked. Very helpful and accommodating staff. Great value for money. Highly recommended.

Had lunch here for first time since lockdown on Monday. Fabulous food & drinks really nice staff, the most Covid friendly environment. Staff very helpful & happy to accommodate my food issues (no butter, substitute part of a filling for salad). Can’t praise it enough.

This was a nice cafe, all the staff wore masks, and the food and drink was very good. The toilets were clean and spacious, with plenty of hot water. Mx

I loved the jacket potatoes and the cheese Was a bit rich. It was very close to king Richard 3rd. Cup of tea was lovely. Staff are nice. I recommend you to park outside adult education college if you have a disabled badge, as it only 5 minutes walking distance.

If is realises that all of the tables were partitioned off with Perspex and all the folks serving were wearing masks, I wouldn’t have bothered. It makes for a gloomy atmosphere and I won’t be going here again

Visited on a Saturday at 11:15 so just managed to get breakfast. Eggs cooked perfectly. Covid safe. Helpful and friendly staff.

Called in with a colleague for a mid-morning snack and coffee. The staff were friendly and efficient and the food was delivered quickly, hot and of excellent quality. Overall I couldn't fault 'Dido' and would happily be a regular if I lived nearer - instead it will have to be simply my venue of choice when I do visit Leicester.

We love it here. Great location, excellent food, good service and really lovely coffee. It is a very good choice for lunch ( v. Generous portions) or just for a drink.

Can’t believe this lovely cafe near Leicester Cathedral is not even more busy than it is. Terrific menu and huge portions. My partner and I just wanted a snack and decided to share a sandwich. The lovely staff brought two plates and cutlery - and thank goodness we shared. The sandwich was huge and more than enough for two. Such fresh ingredients too - our Brie, bacon (still warm) and cranberry sandwich was a thing of joy. It’s a place to go back to. Thank you Cafe Dido.

Visited the coffee place today. Really easy to order, friendly and helpful staff and good coffee. Plus, felt really safe with the Covid measures. Give it a try next time you are in the centre.

Good coffee & Covid precautions are good. Mainly the OAP. Coffee and cake crowd here - clean and staff friendly - tables outside for a coffee and a ciggie too if that's your thing 😊

I have visited Café Dido for my first time today. The staff who attended me was lovely, kind and very helpful. You can ask them about allergies and preferences without any issues. All the tables were clean and tidy. I had the quietness to enjoy my reading. The coffee was a very nice one and the food was tasty and filling. I would recommend this Café to everyone, a very nice spot in Leicester.

Extremely Covid safe - the best I've seen in Leicester so far. Light bites to eat were nicely prepared and quick to arrive. Excellent service - very polite, efficient and professional.

Had the full English breakfast. Overpriced at £6.50 for only one piece of everything. Picture decieving and quality of food was poor. Wouldn't recommend.

Very pleasant, clean airy surroundings. Prices slightly on the high side. Jacket potato could have done with a bit more cooking and more filling but it was very tasty and I did enjoy it. Tea was good and strong.

Nice place, but £5.80 for a ‘chicken’ panini wafer thin super market packet chicken is absolutely outrageous. There are much better panini’s in Leicester.

After a spot of sale shopping we came here for some lunch. It is always kept so clean and tidy and staff are always lovely. The toasted sandwiches are the best in Leicester with lots of different choices of fillings to suit everyone

We visited the cafe dido by chance on saturday afternoon 28 dec 2019. I have to say that this cafe is by far the best my wife and I have ever encountered. The minute we entered we felt welcome and the place has a really pleasing atmosphere. It is really well organised with plenty of very pleasant staff. This care is spotlessly clean. even though the place was full we were served immediately from the very nice menue. The salmon and cream cheese bagette was absolutely wonderful and freshly made. Coffee was also top notch. I honestly can not fault the cafe dido they even thank you on your way out which give a really pleasing experience a nice touch. The next time we are in the area we shall make sure to visit there again. I am already looking forward to it. 10 out of 10. Outstanding.

There is simply no place like Dido. I’ve never had a bad meal there. The staff are fantastic and I couldn’t recommend the cafe highly enough.

We called in for lunch before 2.00 pm and was told there were no more jacket potatoes or prawns. We stayed and chose 3 wraps and the spicy pasta daily special. The meals were very disappointing with very little chicken in the wraps, and as for the pasta dish, this was mainly slices of white french bread with very little pasta and again hardly any chicken. The side salad serving was minimal cucumber, lettuce and tomato. I would not eat here again. However the coffee was lovely and the service OK. There are better places in Leicester to go I am sure!

We went here on a shopping trip to Leicester. We had Jacket potato and a Panini. Lots of other choices.

The one sausage was of very poor quality, the one piece of bacon was undercooked, the tablespoon of mushrooms were overcooked and from a tin and the one slice of toast was smothered in margarine. To add insult, if you have a scrambled egg instead of a fried egg it was an additional £1.50 per person! Absolutely terrible breakfast, even my 11 year old thought it was disgusting. Worst £20.50 I have spent if I’m honest.

After visiting Leicester for many years a while ago we found Cafe Dido in a side street barely 2 minutes walk from Highcross shopping centre, they serve what I consider to be the best cappuccino I've ever had, the food is great all freshly made and the staff are always smiling, happy to see you which I have to say is fairly untypical of most places, highly recommended, everytime we visit the city this our first port of call.

Lovely little cafe in Leicester. Great coffee, great cake and freshly made sandwiches with generous fillings. Service has always been excellent - staff are caring and friendly. Definitely my go-to cafe when shopping.

My wife and I have been going to Cafe Dido for a couple of years particularly because they have catered for Coeliacs I.e. gluten free, we went today only to be told they don't serve Coeliacs any more as it's to complicated. To say I was discussed at the response is an understatement, I felt hurt and angry and discriminated against, as if I'm a second class citizen.

I like this place. Just popped in to town early on a Sunday morning. Popped in for a coffee and a test to breakfast. Bright, clean and simple decor. Well staffed and friendly. Breakfast was small but perfectly formed (had the full breakfast)

Cafe Dido is a great place to stop for lunch, or a quick tea & cake stop. The staff are friendly and attentive, and the cafe was lovely and warm providing us a must needed warm-up break after being outside in the chilly February weather!

Absolutely lovely lunch food and at a reasonable price!

I had passed this café many times whilst out shopping in Leicester, but had never gone in due to the fact that one of my favourite places to eat is within the same vicinity. On a cold and frosty Christmas shopping trip in the city I was heading for my favourite eatery, but as I passed Café Dido I thought that it looked so inviting that I would have my breakfast here instead. As stated in other reviews, this establishment is absolutely immaculate, with friendly attentive staff, who genuinely seem to be happy to be working there (a member of staff arrived for their shift whilst I was sitting in the café, and all the other staff members immediately greeted him – much like ‘Norm’ was greeted when he walked into ‘Cheers’, for all those that are old enough to remember this American comedy). This is the thing about this place, it has such a friendly atmosphere about it. I ordered a large breakfast and a pot of tea, the price of which was very reasonable. The tea was delivered to my table very quickly, by a smiling waitress, and the breakfast soon followed. The breakfast looked and tasted great. I’m glad that I had breakfast here, and although I will still be using my favourite place to eat, I will almost certainly pop into the Café Dido for a bit of a change.

This a lovely little eaterie. The service is perfect. The food is always absolutely delicious. The staff are all so friendly and polite. This has to be one of the best places to eat in Leicester.

A super cafe and lunch spot. There are a few tables outside but most are inside. The menu is varied with great quality, fresh food. The service is great with very friendly staff.

We had lunch here for the first time this week. We were greeted by a very friendly member of staff which was a great start. Good coffee arrived firstt while we waited for our food. You could tell it had been freshly made, even the small salad was fresh to the plate. My salad wrap was delicious, good valuse for the amount of food, my husband had a toastie that he said was very good too. We didn't eat cake this time but they did look good! We'll definitely return.

Situated in the ‘old part’ of the City: narrow lanes and arty archways with cobblestone and one-way streets lays Cafe Dido. More than once have we used this cafe for Breakfast. Coffee and Fry-up that has been lovingly prepared and presented by an amazing team of staff. Clean, friendly restaurant. The Breakfast is full of flavour; not fat. Love going there. Surprise today that Breakfast is served until 1130.

Whenever visiting Leicester we head for Café Dido whether it is just for coffee (and cake), lunch or afternoon tea (with cake) it is a must. The sandwiches etc. are made to order and have interesting fillings and the soups and jacket potatoes are good too. Oh and the cakes...

Our first visit to this cafe. There are many to choose from in the area, but there were empty tables and comfortable seats available as we were passing by. We found a table selected our food from a range of toasties, panini’s, sandwiches, baked potatoes, burgers and pastas. You order at the till but food and drinks are brought to your table number. Friendly staff and efficient service. We both enjoyed our choices and reasonably priced with a pleasant atmosphere. We would have no problems returning to this Cafe.

We just walked in as we were looking for a place for breakfast The place is clean, light and nice. Staff is friendly and the breakfast was delicious. Sausage and bacon were not too greasy and eggs perfectly done We’ll be back

Have visited here at lunchtime so many times when shopping in Leicester. They do a yummy range of panini’s, sandwiches & fresh soup. Always clean & tidy environment,including the toilets. Polite & friendly staff. See you again soon
