Mid morning we found that the road to Fairy Pools was closed for repair so we turned around and called in for coffee and cake. What a delight! I particularly enjoyed the cheesecake and the coffee was as good as I have had anywhere. It was nice to find a cafe which is both simple and sophisticated.

Cafe Cùil is definitely worth a visit, good service, lovely setting and good food. It is however a little pricey for what you get, they had no chanterelles which was a big part of the order and we were only told this once it arrived with alternatives on the plate. We would definitely go back though when passing through Carbost.

We came across this culinary gem today following an impromptu visit to the Fairy Pools having experienced a ferry delay. What a great addition to the island….very cool and relaxed environment with a fantastic menu selection…really spoilt for choice for brunch! We decided on the brisket rarebit with a soft poached egg, and local trout with scrambled eggs on sourdough toast and neither disappointed. Super tasty food, great service and fab coffee too! Off the beaten track from the usual drive to Uig through Skye, but so definitely worth a visit and will add to my “returning” list too… Loved it, brightened my morning for sure! 👌

Excellent location, delicious food with great options, and locally sourced ingredients. Hubby had the trout and eggs and I had the brisket toastie, perfect after a cold walk. We are visiting from New Zealand and have experienced mostly excellent service every time we’ve eaten out. However, we were not impressed with the service from this cafe. For want of a better term, lacklustre is how I’d describe it. We waited a fair amount of time to be seated, but no biggy. Once seated we waited so long I thought maybe we had to order up at the till. I managed to get the attention of a waitress who said someone would be with us shortly. Waited a bit longer when the same waitress said sorry I thought someone would come and she took our order. Food came out fairly quickly. Once we’d eaten, another waitress came and cleared the table. We then waited a very long time again for the bill. Managed to get the attention of another waitress who was very busy with the cutlery. We counted 5 waitresses on shift, not too busy at that time, none looking in our direction as they walked passed, all did not particularly seem interested, one had a very lively conversation with the locals sitting in front of us while we waited for service. Likely some of the best food of the trip but worst service we’ve experienced unfortunately!

We visited this cafe twice on our trip to Skye and had fantastic meals both times. It may sound really silly but I've never had an egg and bacon sandwich like it! It was amazing and full of flavour. There isn't a lot on the menu but what is on there is a decent selection and there should be something for everyone - the staff are really nice too and happy to help. There is also a nice shop within the cafe too with a small selection of gifts, artwork and foods/drink to buy and take away.

After a refreshing swim in the nearby fairy pools, just about 5 miles away, we headed to Cafe Cuil for brunch. We arrived a bit early as the cafe opens at 10 AM on Sundays, so we had to wait for a bit before it opened. The interior of the cafe is beautifully decorated—pictures really don’t capture its charm! The menu was a delightful surprise, offering unique options beyond the typical cafe fare. We tried the brunch menu which included delicious dishes like shredded brisket on Welsh rarebit and crispy mac and cheese balls. Both the food and service were outstanding. I highly recommend this cafe—it's probably the best cafe food I've ever enjoyed!

We’ve stopped here for coffee and cake on a few occasions and have found it consistently excellent. This year was no exception, and the friendly helpfulness of the staff makes it an even more enjoyable experience. A big shout out to the person who we understand comes in to the cafe in the early hours to bake all the cakes and pastries for the day. Fabulous quality. All in all a great place to stop - and they do light lunches too!

A real gem - great ingredients, carefully prepared. Service is friendly and helpful - such a change from many Skye experiences. For anyone in the Carbost/Struan area give it a try - avoid the Bog Myrtle up the road. Some people say Cafe Cuil a little pricey, but really worth it for a quality experience in a calm , relaxed atmosphere

The owner kindly served us, despite arriving only 12 minutes before closing time. Nice modern building with big windows. The cake we chose was sensational - sponge with crannachan topping (whisky-soaked blackberries in thick whipped cream). Highly recommended place!

One of our favourite places to go on skye! Been back several times with various family and friends and it’s always excellent! Staff are really friendly, surroundings are beautiful and the decor is very high end and more like your sitting a cafe in London or Edinburgh etc. Onto the food…….first class….always.

We visited Café Cuil whilst travelling from Carbost to Portree. We both fancied a hot breakfast and decided to pop in. On entry we were greeted by the friendly staff and we were suitably impressed by the interior and its pleasant view. We looked through the menu and couldn't find what we fancied which was a bacon and egg sandwich (preferably on white crusty bread) or a small breakfast. These are 2 basic options that I would expect from a café selling breakfast and lunch. However, they offered bacon, egg, onion and rocket on sourdough bread, which I believe was their take on a bacon and egg sandwich. We ended up ordering this (excluding the onion and rocket and requested it on plain bread, which came on brown granary bread) along with scrambled egg on sourdough, which could only be found on the kids menu. The scrambled egg came well presented, although too salty for my liking, I would have preferred less salt and added to taste as everyone is different. I think that it would benefit to have a more varied menu including basic options as well as the more fussy options. Having sides of beans or mushrooms etc wouldn't go amiss. Ketchup bottles have seen better days

Delicious food. Great location. Friendly staff. We had pancakes with thyme-poached peaches and a tangy rarebit with tender brisket and poached eggs. Excellent coffee. Only minor gripe was that staff didn’t engage sufficiently with punters queuing to get in… I noticed this when I arrived, and also when I departed. Eye contact and a few words of welcome cost nothing.

It clearly deserves its title as the best Fish & Chips in the Highlands. The portions served are VERY generous and everything is super good! Excellent value for money. If you're looking for a place where the fries are as pretty as they are good and where the average piece of breaded haddock is the size of a child's forearm, don't hesitate!
