Cafe Au Chocolat in South Kesteven

Scone looked and tasted like a store bought scone, but was presented with plenty of clotted cream and jam. The crepe that my daughter had looked substantial. I am not sure why anyone would want to pay over £7 for a pancake, though 😳 One of the older staff members was quite abrupt, but it was a pleasant experience on the whole.

Crepe were very chewy not worth it.

Cakes, coffee and service generally good. Interior decor a bit tired and worn especially in the back section of the premises. I prefer this for coffee and cake rather than a lite lunch.

Priority is given to chocolate in this establishment, but I can't really say it's anything special. Service is okay, the atmosphere is okay but that's it....nothing special.

Extremely affordable and the staff is really polite. For less than £10, I enjoyed a brie and cranberry croissant along with a red berry tea. There was plenty of brie in the croissant, which was fantastic, and the salad was also really nice. Without a doubt, I would return.

Lovely place to have a coffee with tasty treats. The ambience was lovely and cosy. The staff is friendly and helpful. If you're in Stamford, it's worth visiting.

A delicious savory crepe followed up by a chilli spiced hot chocolate made for a great lunch. A nice spot, a lucky find as we wandered the town.

Very few choices of food. Range of crepes offered but not the best quality I’ve had. Bits of egg shell in the filling. The Gingerbread latte also had a bad taste to it. Not a lot of seating space and you have to order from the counter. Food did come quickly and the service was nice

Lovely coffee shop, with a delicious selection of cakes to choose from. They have a menu but I don't really go in the for a lunch or a meal just a coffee and a cake but the pancakes do look rather tempting.

Super friendly staff and very reasonably priced. I had the red berry tea and a brie & cranberry croissant, which came to under £10. The croissant was delicious, a really generous amount of brie, and the salad was lovely too. I would definitely go again.

Nice enough place, central location and the service and staff are polite and attentive. Was perhaps expecting a more varied choice of menu items and pastries, but it focuses more on crepes - so if that's your thing you'd probably rate it higher. Coffee was served way too hot taking around 10-15 minutes to drop to drinkable temperature, so the machine might need adjusting.

l bought 2 hot chocolates and two fruit scones, as myself and a friend was out for a birthday. Sadly my friend wasn't happy on this occasion as she visits the cafe regularly. The hot chocolate 's were lukewarm and the scones were hard and dry. For £17 approx you expect better than that. Also if you wanted cream and it was a extra cost at 50p.

The best cheesecakes on earth! The service is fantastic, they are always so welcoming with my dog and always bring a bowl out for him. They allow you to sit anywhere with your dog, not just outside.. although the outside seating is lovely on a nice day. A great place for great cakes, great coffee and for watching the world go by.

Very cozy place for a coffee (actually real coffee - cannot say the same from other places unfortunately!). We didn’t have anything else as we were full but definitely will come back for a crepe, they looked amazing.

This has been a very pleasant surprise find. We popped in for a coffee for the first time a couple of weeks ago. It was lovely to be served a nice CUP of coffee and not the usual bucket that seems so popular at the moment. The coffee was good as well. The staff were delightful and very friendly. We have been back a few times now and enjoyed the same experience each time. Their Creps make a great lunch. I would highly recommend you visit when you are next in Stamford.

Had a great lunch with my elderly mother. Galettes and a glass of rose, very civilised. It is compact and can get busy so please be patient and tolerant of the hard working staff. Thanks

I was taken there who told me how good it was. We had what she called a chocolate bomb each , it was lovely. We also had hot chocolate to go with it. A first rate indulgence. A must for all chocolate lovers.

They messed up someone else’s order and took it out on me. The server was rude, and everything else extremely overpriced but labelled ‘artisan’. £4.75 for a hot chocolate, in a cup size, and then a further £1 for marshmallows and whipped cream. Definitely a café for the pretentious. Nice but limited food choice.

So disappointed! Sadly a special lunch out wasn’t that special. They lost our order and we waited an hour for crepes, I appreciate accidents happen but they didn’t even apologise. The lady next to us couldn’t believe the price increase in there either. Much nicer cafes to visit in this beautiful town.

Were were visiting from Bournemouth and we came across this wonderful place. We had a wonderful lunch here. The savoury crepes were fabulous and the sweet ones were divine. The staff were so friendly and the service was quick & efficient. Really recommend this little gem.

Frequented Cafe au Chocolate many times over the last few years but never again. My wife who is polish ordered us some drinks and some cakes whilst I was visiting another shop, when I sat down I asked if she had ordered and she said yes. the waitress came out and said our order was on its way but first we have to pay, not a problem as we were sitting outside due to covid restrictions. the waitress placed the card machine in front of me and I attempted to pay but machine would not accept and the waitress intervened and said it was asking for a tip. TIP for what I hadn't even received any food or drink and the only service we had was someone taking our order. Why would an establishment ask for a tip up front, completely out of order.As you can imagine I did not leave a tipSo whilst sitting there enjoying our drinks It made aware of other customers around me as it was busy, they where ordering and consuming drinks/food and then paying, we where the only ones asked for payment up front.I can only imagine that the establishment has a distrust for customers of non English heritage, My wife was extremely upset and put a damper on what was supposed to be a nice day out in Stamford.

Called in for a coffee and was also tempted to try a chocolate too. Both were wonderful!Staff were very friendly and informative, and it was a cosy place to shelter from the rain!Will have to return and try the crepes next time we’re in the area!

Came here with husband after a long walk around Stamford and surrounding area. The food is always lovely and well cooked. Only problem we have ever had is the quality of your crepe does depend on who is cooking it .Only time was a problem was one girl was in a foul mood and it showed in her cooking but have not seen here there since .I would recommend you give this place a go .The staff they have now are really friendly and helpful and the food is really good

This is a pleasant coffee shop with limited seating outside. The staff are very friendly and are offering good standards of service in the circumstances. The cakes were excellent with good sponges and brownies. The coffee is also very good .

Well, there's a surprise! On a brief visit to Stamford (what a lovely town) from Lincoln (a lovely city!). In need of sustenance and refreshment, to find this beautifully presented cafe/restaurant. Being somewhat selective in what we eat, but with some knowledge, to discover on the menu "savoury crepes" (sometimes known as galettes) made from Buckwheat Flour thus Gluten Free (requirement number 1) and with a vegetarian, nay vegan, filling (requirement number two) featuring houmous and red pepper. Cooked to order, hence a short, very short, delay and well presented.What an absolute delight! Tasty and filling and generally delicious.Thank you!

Good coffee today but also some great desserts! We bought a couple to take home ....staff always friendly and great crepes if near lunchtime. For us, the highlight of any visit to Stamford!

My daughter came in for hot chocolate and afternoon tea. Great range of delicious choices for the croissant filling, cakes and chocolates. All precautions taken so felt very safe. Hygienic throughout and warm welcome from staff. Can't wait to be back in the area.

A great little cafe with attentive and friendly staff. The Americano coffee was strong, without the bitterness. I purchased two little 70% dark chocolates to accompany the hot drinks at £2 (a little steep for two chocolates but they were very rich).A member of staff came over to offer a slice of their new cheesecake for free (lemon and ginger) which was nice....even if it was green.There are plenty of seats in side as well as a sofa. Couldn’t see any free WiFi but didn’t ask to be fair. Recommend to any shoppers or as a meet up point.

Difficult choice between savory crepe or savory Croissant. Chose the latter and it was lovely. Very fresh and light with tasty ingredients.

First round of drinks (coffee's & hot chocolate) were cold, as in room temperature or even lower. Second round a bit better but still not really hot. Had a couple of savoury crepes which frankly were very poor and also cold.We've been here before and never had an issue but based on the last visit they could do better.

My young daughter and I are regulars here. She loves the crepes and I like my coffee so we are both happy folk! The staff are always cheerful and everything, toilets included, is always clean.

This is our 3rd visit and it’s fast becoming a favourite, we usually have coffee which is always smooth and tasty. Today we had salted caramel cheesecake and it was delicious possibly the best I have tasted as the base was not rock hard which is so often the case and the filling smooth and tasty and beautifully decorated.Love the decor of this place and the mix of different styles of seating.They offer table service which is great if you’re laden down with shopping, staff always friendly polite and efficient.

We came across Cafe Au Chocolat by chance as we saw the notice in the window being dog friendly a bonus for us as had our little dog with usIt was very busy as it was the festival day in Stamford 28th September and as we had been all around the shops & stalls also watching the processions through the town we were desperate for a nice coffee. We were lucky to find a table at the back of the cafe and ordered the crepes & coffees which although very busy we only waited a few minutes to be served and they were delicious. We were made very welcome and the staff were friendly & efficient. There is a lot of choice on the menu and tempting offers for sale in main area.Whenever we are back in the area this would be a place to go back to the only downside is just 2 toilets at the back and queuing took a while.

Popped in here purely by chance as we were looking for somewhere to get hot drinks and a light breakfast. The hot chocolate was the initial draw, but the unusual selection of crepes, plus the fact that the savoury ones use a gluten-free buckwheat mix instead of normal wheat flour, is what kept us in. Plenty of seating, though it did fill up quite quickly while we were there, and good prompt service.My wife had the chocolate, which she describes as very nice, not too sweet or bitter, and I had a straight black coffee, which was pretty average, to be honest..The crepes were something else - Sandi had a smoked salmon affair with creme fraiche and salad, I went for their Oriental, which was duck, beansprouts, cucumber, spring onion and a choice of plum or chilli sauce. Sounds weird, but was very nice!The only thing that really lets the place down is the toilet - clean enough, but a bit tired. Badly fitted seat in the one I used An easy fix if they want to do it, then they'd be up for 5 stars.Can be a bit noisy as it's a family-friendly place but other than that well worth a visit if you're in the vicinity.

I love coffee....but I'm a self confessed coffee snob/connoisseur depending on your viewpoint. Stopped off the A1 for lunch and coffee. This place looks great, is very well presented, staff were okay. Toilets clean, I'm sure they make awesome chocolate but the coffee is lousy.....and I mean lousy.100 yards further (and I'm gutted I found it afterwards) is a pink fronted coffee shop that looks like the hipster style, quality coffee shop I so desired...I wish places like this would firstly buy good coffee but FAR more importantly if they are going to offer speciality coffees such as Flat white that they learn to make them properly and make sure ALL the staff do so if they are going to serve them. £3.10 for a really bad coffee is just not on.If I was reviewing the place, staff and ambience I'd give four stars but I'm not...I went in for coffee so this is my honest appraisal.

Went here for lunch, restaurant was very busy and popular. Cakes looked fantastic but were mainly sweet tasting, was unable to taste the strawberries. Hot chocolate was luke warm and did not have the described kick of chilli. Service was excellent and very prompt.

We liked the location, the layout of the cafe itself, the staff attitude, and the variety of seating inside and out. Very attractive display of cakes. We had a light lunch here which was tasty, very well presented and enjoyable.

Very disappointed with our meal and coffee today. the coffee was £3 for a small cup. We ordered a salad with smoked salmon and crème fraiche and a prawn salad. It came with lots of salad leaves that were all going brown cucumber thickly sliced and some smoked salmon that's it for £6.99. why do restaurants put inedible lettuce in a meal and charge so much?

Dropped in for a coffee on Sunday and sat outside in the sun enjoying a really good raspberry and chocolate brownie. Polite staff and very welcoming. Recommended.

Perfect when shopping in Stamford! A real treat especially if you can get a window seat and watch the hussle and bustle of Stamford....

My experience of this café was average. The staff didn't come across as that friendly when I arrived. The food that they served made up for the bad service and was presented very nicely. I wouldn't return to this café in a rush.

We visited Cafe au Chocolat on our way home from Lincoln.

We came to the cafe first time about 4yrs, very impressed with the choice, set up, yummy chocs but we were very dissappointed with a quality of not so cheap cakes, hence why expected a lot. Cakes were dry and very heavy. I am desert chef myself and I think they need to review their recipes or choose different cream for their cakes, use whipping cream instead of double or just check the process in making. Could only eat half of tje chocolate cake as felt a bit sick after,like eaten half bowl of plain ganache. Next time we came in, chose strawberry and lemon cake. Strawberry was so dry and lemon cake felt like been out for longer than should be, outer part was rubbery and didn't feel fresh at all. It was similar for another couple of visits. There is something not right with cakes there. If they tasted as they look, it would be great. But they are not cheap. We tried gallettes (savory creppes, great, freshly made), coffee, superb. I probably won't order anymore cakes for a while, hopefully it will change. British customers might not notice but if you have worked with French cakes yourself, you would know, of it is mousse, it is supposed to be fluffy and light, if you have so heavy cream, ganache type layer, add some raspberry or jelly in the middle to refreshen it, maybe some crispy layer of something else for texture etc...they are plain at the moment. Sorry.

Always very busy especially on Market days and weekends. Choose your time carefully! The Crepes are excellent and the Hot chocolate is just what you want on a cold winters day. A bit on the pricey side but well worth it.

This is now my go to place in Stamford. The staff are always pleasant and polite and the lattes are always hot and milky; my only wish is that the large ones were larger!

My daughter ,granddaughter and I visited yesterday . The staff were very welcoming and helpful when we arrived with the pram. Lovely quiet areas ,perfect for breastfeeding and delicious coffee and we would recommend the choc and orange brownie. We will make this a regular.

Came upon this coffee shop when trying to find somewhere not jam packed on a busy Saturday afternoon. What a lovely find it was. A very quirky interior & much more spacious than we first though. A great little black range with soft seating led through a slightly bigger area with tables & chairs.

Nice find just off the main high street in Stamford. Large crepe selection, savoury and sweet, along with French patisserie treats. Open late Thurs and Fri when it serves wine.

We met here with friends from the Midlands as Stamford is a good halfway meeting point. We had two small latte coffees and two fruit scones, one with a (miniscule) pot of jam. My wife had soya milk and decaff coffee, for which she was charged an extra 55p on the already top price of £2.80 for a regular (read small) coffee, making it £3.35 for a small cup of coffee??

Cafe Au Chocolat was on my list of places to go, having past it several times & a friend had recommended it to me.

Visited here for the first time today. Friend had Madagascan chocolate which she declared delicious, and my partner's and my pot of tea was flavoursome. We are going to buy the same glass teapot with infuser as we were very impressed with it!

I'm a local and have visited this cafe many times. The staff (one woman , long nails mousy blond hair) are ok but this woman is quite dismissive and rude and as a senior citizen , who is by no means stupid, I felt put in my place when asking to have my loyalty card stamped after spending £18 on our meal and buying a £25.00 voucher for my son and family. I've bought £25.00 vouches at least 5 times but this is the last one. I've been reading other posts here and find others who have this opinion. Its not just me - I'm never anything but respectful and polite to waiting staff etc etc and expect it back in return.

The staff at Cafe au Chocolat were kind enough to allow us to bring our (tiny) dog into the cafe, so that was a great plus point. Our daughter appreciated the range of brownies (try the Oreo one!) and enjoyed her Mintchevious hot chocolate.

I love Cafe Au Chocolat in Stamford for its great service and fantastic Chilli con Choccy (70% cocoa, organic certified with chilli, cinnamon, nutmeg and cloves) together with a Classique - cheese, ham & tomato crepe.

My wife and I wanted to try somewhere new for coffee and cake. She wanted to try Cafe au Chocolat and I didn’t.

Located on a side street, this is a lovely place to pop in for drinks and a pastry - they serve other kinds of food too, but we just had snacks. Coffee and tea were both very nice. There is lots of different styles of seating indoors, and you can sit outside too. Service is quick and staff were very polite. Good prices for the quality you get too.

Excellent savoury crepes ("galettes bretonnes") with buckwheat flour, i.e. gluten free. The crepes are made on demand. They do not serve microwaved crepes. I am French and I am happy to say that the taste is great, as good as in Britanny! The fresh orange juice was tasty as well. The "single origin coffee" was excellent as well. I have been there twice recently and I have added this address to my restaurant list around Rutland.

Popped in here for coffee - the coffee was excellent but the selection of cakes and chocolates was superb! What a delight! The menu for light lunches looked fabulous too, so I'm sure we'll be back soon.

Went mid July and enjoyed a nice coffee with friendly service so thought we would try it for lunch.

We sat outside in the warm sunshine, each having a crepe. My wife had strawberry and Nutella and mine was ice cream with strawberries, beautiful. Service was superbly friendly. To cap it all, I'm a wheelchair user and the forward thinking of putting a ramp from the front door to the disabled toiletis so imaginative. Ten out of ten!

A must to stop and have a spot of lunch or a drink. Staff very friendly and the place has a nice relaxed atmosphere.

Claiming to be a speciality coffee shop I had good expectations. The staff had little knowledge of the coffee they served and served standard mediocre espresso and badly made flat whites.

We had savoury crêpes (one mushroom & spinach, one cheese & ham) for breakfast. They were excellent and freshly cooked at the counter. With two hot drinks, the bill came to just over £20, which isn’t cheap for breakfast, but it was all very good quality.

Called in the other day for 2 crepes and some hot drinks, service was fast and the crepes were freshly made on site!! Will be back soon.

We went there with my fiancé today to have lunch and we had crepes and they were really delicious. However, the raspberry hot chocolate was a bit of a disappointment as my partner could not taste the raspberry in it.

Visited today very helpful with my mum who is in a wheel chair. We had the banana split crepe and a pineapple and passion fruit cooler both delicious staff lovely and friendly

The facility was very clean, surprisingly with lots of tables available. For a bank holiday weekend, we would have expected it to have been much busier.

Visited here with my partner. Very attentive and polite staff and had the most lovely little coffee stop. Scrumptious offerings and one of the best cups of coffee I have had in a long time! Will visit again soon!

Was going to just have a coffee but was tempted by the savoury crepes. They were really light but very filling. A nice alternative to a sandwich. Service was quick and efficient.

Came here first about 30 years ago and rediscovered it on our return to the area recently. . It serves delicious coffee and pastries and of course the chocolates are amazing.

My wife had been here a few times with granddaughter but my first visit. The service was very good and the savoury crepes light and very tasty. They are also gluten free. I will be back next time a sweet crepe.

Went there for a light snack, had delicious pear and blue cheese crepe. Also ordered the raspberry hot chocolate , superb.

Paid this place a visit whilst out shopping one Friday morning. Outside, it looks very tempting but once inside you realise how small it is with tables cramped up to each other making it uncomfortable if your neighbours are loud. In addition to this the price is extortionate. Im certain this place relies on passing visitors to Stamford, certainly not locals.
