Excellent food from the friendliest staff,

The absolute best place to eat in Maesteg, service is above and beyond all expectations. The food is delicious to say the least and I've never been anywhere with such a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Only downside is not open all week (although I'd be 3 waist sizes bigger if they were 😅)

From London visiting friends and ended up here. We were not disappointed.

I am 65. I travelled to the first UK McDonalds when it opened in 1974. I ate at The Lexington, the first authentic US Diner in Cardiff just a couple of years later, run by an American, then in 1977 I ate at the Diner 77 in Pontcanna in Cardiff when it opened. Anyone old enough to remember will agree these last two are benchmarks in South Wales to stand the test of time. Believe me when I say the burgers at Cafe 21 are the best I have tasted in living memory. A good steak is only compromised by the sauces you put on it. In much the same way, as I ate Diner 21's delicious and succulent Smokers Delight, the actual beef pattie shone through and made me wish I had ordered it plain to enjoy for itself - mouth meltingly delicious and succulent ground beef. And a bonus - a complete burger bun that fits in the mouth, and hence a genuine burger, not a pretentious bland and tough tower stack held together by toothpicks needing dis-assembly to pick over. And the price? Ridiculously good value for money. Between the £6 for the pleasant consistent McDonalds peasant food and the huge rip-off £20 tower Stack, the mid price Cafe 21 knocks the ball out of the park. £65 for 4 with drinks and some very nice wings as appetiser and lush cheesecake in a jar with 4 spoons (stuffed by then). Atmosphere? Well, it's a cafe diner, nice enough.

Has to be one of. If not the best burger in South Wales. Amazing chicken wings. Friendly lovely people. Great atmosphere. Please go and and eat here

Great food cooked with care, much better than the normall big brands.

Swift service, fab food. Fully recyclable packaging for those concerned. My wife has a mild dairy allergy, so opted for the vegan option, and had no issues either. If she has dairy, her asthma plays up. So we done them, and we will return

21 cafe is not a restaurant it's an experience amazing menu and the staff are so friendly and helpful I could go there everyday, and if your a fan of unusual ales/Ipa's they got it covered

I have eaten here on many occasions, breakfast Lunch and dinner plus I've had their burger menu as a takeaway - the food and coffee is a different class from anywhere else. Really good Quality, very tasty. Never had a bad meal - the coffee is perfect every time. Jonathan and the lovely girls, in particular Dionne and Sarah are so lovely. Nothing is too much trouble - Highly recommended 5 Stars.

In the beginning I was hesitant because of the price but I thought why not. I wished I booked earlier in the week as the only slot available was past 8pm. The system of pick was very efficient and I liked the boxes. Upon impression of opening of the box the size and look of the burger was great. Taste was fantastic and quality of product was there. Very rich and satisfying. I would eat again without doubt.My only negative was the wife dish chicken strips wasn't a £10 dish but would benefit from something else to go with it

Absolutely stunning burgers from the new Burger 21 takeaway service. Never thought I'd enjoy cheese chips and gravy and the smoked brisket is to die for. Highly recommended

Had a breakfast baguette and a large breakfast for takeout. Was absolutely lovely, really good quality food. Cooked perfectly! Thick cut bacon, sausages were good too, could taste real butter on the toast. Can't fault it. Highly recommended.

Best Café in Maesteg by a long shot. Owner really cares about the choice of food and coffee (which is fantastic). You are paying for quality and service. The coffee isn't a cheap lavazza instant so don't be surprised if you're not paying instant coffee prices.

I'm not normally much of a mushroom fan but these were delicious! Delicately herbed, and cooked to an ideal mushroom texture. The venison sausage is a hearty beast, and nicely robust of taste. It may not be standard breakfast fare but went down very well. Everything was well but not over cooked, and despite my breakfast being officially small we did not quite manage to finish everything between us.

This meal was absolutely revolting, the bacon sarnies were covered with fat and the bread was moldy, the 4 sausages I had tasted like veggie sausages and the beans were cold, my cuppa was ice cold and my Hubble wasn’t happy either, never going back, good luck big john

Cafe 21 tapas night. Awesome quality food in a great atmosphere, fantastic staff and a great night. Looking forward to the next one.

Went to cafe 21 for lunch with my girlfriend and we shared the dirty burger. It came with a nice side of fresh salad and coleslaw (which had just the right amount of mayo), but more importantly curly fries with chip spice! There were 2 great beef patties topped with a healthy serving of pulled pork, with 3 slices of thick cheddar and a hosted brioche bun. It tasted as good as it looked impressive and we struggled to finish it between us, so great value! I would highly recommend it to anyone wanting a freshly cooked lunch or breakfast. The best part about the experience thougg is the coffee. I would go as far as to say the flat white is the best I've had in Wales, with Jonathon really passionate about his coffee.

Best cafe experience in Maesteg!! Owner prides himself in providing home cooked dishes, pastries, cakes every day! Warm welcome always, undoubtedly the best cup of coffee in town, that with a home made almond croissant is a perfect start to your morning!! But the cherry on the cake for this innovative eatery are their speciality Tapas evenings held every few months, these are a truly scrumptious experience not to be missed, generous plates of Mediterranean influences, full of rich flavours and a great selection of wines and continental beers to accompany your meal!! All in all, a gem on our doorstep!!

I love Café 21 - it offers customers a friendly, warm and social atmosphere. It is always busy but, crucially, this doesn't affect the service. It is always attentive and cheerful. The food is also very good and there is a range of breakfast/lunch options.

Thought it was closed when I walked in, no atmosphere and only one member of staff on so food not available

Upon entering - You select a table and place your order at the counter. The staff are friendly and curtious. It's got a modern "Executive" decor inside. Tables are spotlessly clean and solid - perhaps a little close to each but it was not bothersome. There was also a lovely back room which would be lovely for a large groups. Anyway - 9/10Service - The staff are lovely, the coffee is prepared whilst taking your order. The breakfast arrived quickly, much quicker than expected! 10/10  Contents - Large Breakfast: 2 Sausage, 2 Bacon, 2 eggs, 2 hash browns, mushrooms, baked beans/tomatoes (1/2 & 1/2) 2 rounds of toast . 10/10Presentation - Perfect portion size and well presented. 10/10The food - It was sooo good and piping hot! No one wants a luke warm breakfast.The bacon was quality thick cut (not supermarket), the sausages were firm and chunky and perfectly cooked, eggs also cooked to perfection. Baked beans were rich and tasty (obviously premium brand). Everything was not too greasy which was great.We asked for tomato sauce which came in a small pot between us (Better than fiddling with messy sachets whilst your breakfast goes cold and you squirt it across the table). 10/10Value for money - The large breakfast was £5.25 and I had a Large Cappuccino (£2.50). You won't need anything else, it's super filling but not so much you have to roll yourself home. 9/10Overall - I loved it, I highly recommend The Cafe 21! 10/10

Had a breakfast here with a few mates. Staff were very friendly and helpful. The food was really nice and decently priced. The cafe looked very clean and had a steady flow of customers.

Very good and they del to your work and home

Called in for breakfast - quite good, price very competitive (Wetherspoon in town). The quality is better than the Wetherspoon (in my opinion), and more flexible with order choice - will call in again. Toilet (but no sign?) very clean.

Bustling cafe in the heart of the town. Lovely coffee and a fab breakfast. Regular tapas nights which are very popular and good value.

The 21 cafe is a meeting place for local people but everyone is welcome. Clean and friendly, the food is very good value. It was recently listed as one of the best places to have breakfast in Wales. It often figures in coffee recommendations. My son-in-law who lives in America and loves his coffee considers the coffee here is the best he has tasted in the UK. It's central position looking out at the grand Town Hall makes it A must for visitors to the town. Older Maestegians may want to visit for nostalgic reasons as it used to be Bellis and it is fitting that it should still be serving coffee and food.

Had the large Breakfast, and it was really good and plenty of it. Its also a bonus that the plates are warm which keeps your food warmer for longer. The latte is of really good quality not like the cheap rubbish you have in certain shops. The welcome is always fantastic and great service to go with it.

We love this place. Whether is be for a quick coffee or a meal. Breakfast is the best in Maesteg. The staff are friendly and service is quick. Love coming here.

We come here a lot and have never been disappointed, the breakfasts are lovely and freshly cooked. The sausages are really meaty and my little one loves them. Recently I had a dirty burger and chips (Aberdeen Angus burger with pulled chicken on the top). It was lovely. The decor is lovely and its fantastic to sit by the window and watch the world go by with a latte. Only downside is they dont have any cakes only welshcakes.

Lovely cafe with all the frills however Absolutely shocking that you can't have a slice Of toast at 12.10 pm in the day .
