Although limited in menu options (understandable), this location offered delicious local plates and snacks while visiting a significant and impressive cultural site.

It was busy but the young staff were friendly and efficient. We had a delicious ploughman's lunch and tea and the scones and tray bakes looked excellent and were very popular. When we visit next time we'll definately leave enough time to go to the tea room again.

Had a nice cheese and chutney toastie and as this has to be 100 characters long this is a fill in to make it viable

I came to visit the castle and was pleasantly surprised to find a tea-room. I had the cullen skink - which I told the lady (I think her name is Bridget) who served me - was the best soup I have ever eaten! Really wish I had room for a scone, as they looked great, too. Would highly recommend. It is the perfect accompaniment to a beautiful castle.

To top off a beautiful visit, we had a hearty good value light meal at the tea room. Combined with the walks, the castle, well-kept grounds, museum, shop, parking, bathroom and picturesque country road drive there, a perfect outing.

A lovely quiet cafe. When we arrived at 11:45am there were only 2 other couples inside the tea room. Others were taking advantage of sitting outdoors in the sunshine. Table service is the order of the day, be seated and the waitress will come and take your order. We both opted for the Sandwich and Cream Tea. Freshly made sandwiches and beautiful home made scone with Clotted Cream and Raspberry Jam. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The only down point was a group of 4 people that took exception to not being served quickly enough. In all honesty the group of 4 had only been in the Tea Room for a maximum of 10 minutes (if that), If they couldn't see from the amount of people that had entered the tea room since we arrived that there would be a short wait they were deluded. The Waitress's dealt with the situation in a very calm and professional manner.

Not a lot of choice on the menu and very expensive. 1 toastie, 2 cakes and 2 cans of juice cost almost £13, which is very expensive. I wouldn't recommend it at all.

I visited Caerlaverock Castle on the 31/03/18 with my husband and little dog and was looking forward to afternoon tea at the teashop as I had read excellent reviews. As we purchased our entrance tickets, I enquired whether or not our dog was allowed in the tearoom. I was assured that she was. After visiting the castle in the cold windy weather we were looking forward to our afternoon tea. The tearoom was packed but we managed to find a free table in the middle of the room. The waitress was very pleasant and petted our dog and asked her name whilst taking our order. Our order was brought by another waitress who also petted our dog. Whilst enjoying our food another member of staff came towards us and without speaking to us, asked in a loud voice, "Does anyone object to this dog being in here?" The room went quiet, with all eyes on us. I politely stated that we had asked if we could bring her in and had been told it was ok. She ignored me and proceeded to ask each table in turn, "Are you ok with this dog being in here?" I was embarrassed beyond words so I asked for the bill so we could leave. I went to the till to pay and the staff member approached me. (Nobody had objected incidentally). She said, "I have to make sure in case head office gets a complaint". I stated again that we had been given permission to bring her in. She replied, "Well you should have sat near the door, not in the middle of the room". I paid and left, by now close to tears.

Warm and welcoming, the tea room is a must visit when at the castle, either refreshment after or a snack before the visit. Cheerful and pleasant staff and reasonable prices.

This is not to be confused with Glencaple Tearooms. Some pictures and reviews here are of Glencaple Tearooms which is closed after the fire. Caerlaverock Tearooms is at the castle. It is a very good small tearoom. We had soup and a sandwich. It was good value, and tasty. Scones and cakes also well worth trying.

We had a really tasty home cooked lunch in this tea room while visiting Caerlaverock Castle. The menu was good, including soups and a high tea where you could have your choice of sandwiches, a coffee or tea and a scone with clotted cream and jam for £7. There were plenty of cakes to choose from and local Cream O' Galloway ice cream. We all enjoyed our meals and the staff were friendly.

We timed it just right (others seem to have been less fortunate) and scoffed yummy cheese & pickle sandwiches and fruit scones with a pot of tea. Good value too.

Quite a small cafe with gift shop. Good coffee, and nice scone, but visit a little marred by the howling gale coming through the kitchen doors! Good view of the castle from the cafe. Staff friendly and cheerful.

Popped to the castle today as I'm holidaying with friends in Eskmuirdale this was a delightful stop before heading to Dumfries. Highlights were a flashback film made when Tony Robinson had hair and Barbara in the shop who was friendly and told me to come back for the jousting in summer. Best of all my English Heritage membership worked here.A must if you're in the area.

Our first Scottish Cafe, all of a sudden it was oatcakes and scones and Scottish butter. The girls serving were so sweet and helped us with our confusion. Very reasonably priced. Ploughman's lunch was great as were the scones and the tea.

Came here on holiday as we were passing and the food was decent home cooked meals. Only negative was the chicken strips/nuggets. They were not appealing or tasty at all. Staff were friendly and rushed off their feet as the forgot a few items but it was quickly rectified. Nice place for hot food.
