Cactus Jacks in Doncaster

Gone downhill, we have loved this place and dined here since it opened and have never been anything but extremely happy until last night. We ordered the combo starter, which was very good apart from now you only get one stuffed jalapeño each when you used to get two each…. Naughty. Before my son who was still clearly eating his chicken wings had finished the staff attempted to take the plates away (he actively still had a wing in his hands and one on his plate!). Drinks were ok but the experience was lacking, one of the things we love is the frosted glasses. Nope that’s gone. 2 x steaks ordered which were extremely thin, dry and had a lot of fat (not the quality over the last decade we remember) chicken chimichangas were also ordered which always smaller than ever, the thing used to hang off the plates and was a struggle to eat the whole thing (which I always did because it’s so good). I went to toilet which only took a couple of minutes and the plates had gone, we were not asked how our meals were and as a treat for Mother’s Day we left very displeased with the food overall and service. I have attached a screenshot of my previous review which shows how the place has changed. I write this review as constructive feedback cactus jacks, get back to your basics, food quality, in particular the stakes, service and portion sizes which loyal customers over the years have grown to love which were so lacking during our visit last night.

Thanks to LNER, we were stranded in Doncaster unexpectedly last night. Shared a cab with a local who mentioned Cactus Jack when asked for dining recommendation. So glad he did! Had the chicken & steak fajitas. Huge portions - didn't finish everything. All fresh and tasty. Staff were absolutely lovely. Fun cowboyish tunes, great atmosphere. Plug points at each booth for emergency charging. Good fun after a rubbish day 😁

Nice food ok prices pity no English choices for people who don't like spicy food

Always great food. I make a point of calling in any time I pass near Doncaster. The garlic bread with cheese is amazing. They do fantastic chicken dishes and from the looks on the faces of other diners the red meat is just as nice. Cocktails, music (a bit of Country, it's a Tex-Mex) and a plate full of food. A great evening every time I've been. If you're a chillihead, take a bottle of your favourite; the Louisiana is a bit vinegary.

Rocked up after 10pm on a Wednesday evening and cheekly asked if we could have a meal presuming and understandably that it would be a big fat no however, they checked with the kitchen and said yes. Ordered a burger and the salmon. Epic food, so grateful for you serving us so late. Thank you. I highly recommend 😁

Title: Disappointing Dining Experience Rating: ⭐⭐ I recently visited Cactus Jack in Doncaster, and unfortunately, my experience left much to be desired. The overall service was disappointingly slow, making it difficult to get the attention of the staff throughout the meal. The food took quite a while to arrive from the kitchen, and when it did, it was far from satisfactory. I ordered the chili burger, but it appeared to be overcooked and burnt, which was a letdown. My partner opted for the ribs, only to find them dry and unappetizing. Regrettably, it wasn't just our meals that were subpar; the rest of our group had similar complaints about their food. To make matters worse, the difficulties continued even when we wanted to settle the bill and leave. It was a challenge to get the staff's attention at the end of our meal. Overall, my recent visit to Cactus Jack was far from enjoyable. Considering my past experiences were nothing special either, I am inclined to say that I won't be returning anytime soon.

Lovely place food was great the bbq pulled pork was to smokey for myself but the food its self was bang on.

I never write a bad review, however we went for a meal last night, both my daughter and grandfather in law had the same meal, both awoke in the night being violently sick and suffering with diarrhoea. This has been reported to Doncaster council as this is hugely worrying. I wouldn’t recommend this restaurant to anyone and anyone attending should do with caution! It’s a shame because it’s a lovely restaurant with a fantastic atmosphere, just a shame the meals ruin it.

18 of us booked for a birthday lunch. The staff were very helpful when taking the booking over the phone and we arranged to do a pre-order a couple of days before the event. On the day, the food was ready to be served as soon as everyone was seated and the order was correct. All the food was piping hot and everyone said how much they enjoyed it. We ordered from the lunchtime menu which had a good selection and was good value for the portion sizes. The staff were very polite and attentive. Will definitely go back.

Quality food, good for families, very decent portion sizes!

This place was average. Food was cold waiting up to 1 hour and 45 for 2 T bone stakes now I’m no chef but that is outrageous. And the staff not to mention how I was treated was disgusting. A blonde girl who served us Walked past in a hurry swearing and shouting and even had to go to the bar to ask for more drinks. Wouldn’t recommend

The best food and service I’ve received in Doncaster in past 8 years. I’ll definitely come back and have a dinner here with my family and friends.

Absolutely terrible food, the starter was fine but nothing to call home about. When our mains came the presentation was very deceiving as it was swimming in oil and the meat was very chewy and dry and wasn't eaten by either of the party. We were there for the best part of an hour and not sure if it was just the day we caught them on but none of the staff came to check on us or clear our plates. When we left the lady at the bar never asked us how our meal was until after I had paid and when I told her it wasn't the best she just shrugged me off. I then proceeded to call the manager who then suggested I was lying about our experience, and that he couldn't talk right now as he was very busy. I feel extremely sorry for the staff if that's the type of management that they have to put up with. The manager said that he would call me back when the so called restaurant wasn't as busy and needless to say I am still waiting. I am both annoyed and disappointed and can't help but feel that we were pushed to aside. We will definitely not be returning due to the managements attitude and the appalling food.

Not sure if it was just an off-day for them, as they have really good reviews usually but when me and my friend went we had the enchiladas and it was poor, it felt like we was chewing on a leather boot. The chips, salad and drinks were amazing. When we complained over it we was basically called liars.

Great food Great service Great atmosphere If you like mexican food go and try this place. They also serve other foods in case you aren't in the mood for mexican.

Lovely restaurant, great theme! Old school cowboy westerns on TV, as well as pictures from famous westerns adorning the walls. The food was really tasty. Had the Cactus Jack Famous BBQ ribs (why wouldn't you), and they were delightful, washed down with a refreshing IPA. The service was also fantastic. We went on A Friday night, 7:30 booking, and it was surprisingly quiet, only one other table was occupied. I don't know whether that is the norm in Doncaster.

Tried here for the first time as something a bit different for the kids. Upon arriving we was greeted by a friendly waitress and showed to our jail cell! The food came out pretty quick & I couldn’t fault any of it. Delicious, hot & decent portions! The only negative I could find is there isnt a drinks menu for you to look at so we had no idea what was available/prices etc - not sure why Will definitely return though!

Good tex mex, good selection of spirits too. Perfect for a Friday or Saturday night to kick the night off with a good meal! Very cool decor too.

Popped in because we had been turned away from the Big Smoke who weren't taking walk ins on a Wednesday night. Told the story to the excellent staff here and they couldn't believe it! Food was excellent, although we ordered too much !! Be aware the portions are big. The loaded nachos, chicken wings, soft tacos were all gorgeous. Playlist was interesting, as was the Client Eastwood movie playing in the background which added to it's slightly eccentric ambience. Would definitely go back

Food was good but the service was shocking.Our main arrived halfway through my starter and instead of taking it away they moved plates to get it on the table.The waitress was shocking and swearing at a colleague for not collecting HER plates.No desserts offered..rushed out of our table because the races were on.Don't go when it's busy obviously.

'Bottomless Brunch' 30 quid for drinks but not bottomless food like every other establishment offering Bottomless. You get 3 starters between you and thats it for 90mins. When you add up what you eat its less than 30quid so if you dont drink alot definitely a mistake!!! Really disappointed as this place has been a favourite a long time and the food is beautiful but this is false advertising. Bottomless brunch is meant to be all you can eat and drink in 90mins. We had 3 starters to share and that was game over. Not worth the money at all and spoilt a 40th birthday celebration.

45 mins late. No idea what heck going on. Food was wrapped in clingfilm so food was warm at best. Told was in foil. Whoever heard of Enchiladas made with flour tortilla, should be corn tortilla and baked not just warmed under a grill. Have no idea about Mexican food. Won't be ordering again.

Me and 2 friends popped in for lunch, it’s been about 8 years since I was last here and didn’t remember it being as nice as it was! We had off the lunch menu which was well worth it! Big portion so didn’t finish it. The coke served in the chilled glass was nice also,

Empty when we arrived, service was fairly slow, food was poor to mediocre at best, didn't seem to have much effort or flavour put into meals, very disappointed. Very expensive for quality of food.

Food was poor, service was shocking. Waiting on orders, orders arriving missing items. Asked if we could leave the table as they needed it when we had only just received a drink for one of the party who had been waiting 20mins after everyone else had received theirs. Been before and was ok, food never amazing but adequate. Todays was just bad all round.

Visited on a Friday night at 6.30pm before seeing the comedy club at cast, couldn’t decide where to eat but decided to chance Cactus Jacks (having not been here for 15 years) to see if a table was available- luckily there was a table for two in window available for an hour, which was perfect for us! I would definitely recommend booking beforehand, despite the restaurant being full, we were served quickly and food was amazing! There was a great family friendly atmosphere, everyone was enjoying themselves. There was soo much to choose from on the menu - great options for vegetarians too! I decided to have veggie chilli chimichangas with fries n salad and my husband had chicken fajitas on a sizzler with wedges! Both meals were gorgeous! Long Island ice tea was tasty too 😄 - thanks cactus jacks for fitting us in! We had a great time, we won’t be waiting 15 years to come back lol!

Lovely atmosphere and service. Although the salad I ordered was quite big it wasn't what I expected. I had the bbq pulled pork salad, can't say it was amazing.

When my wife and I decided to cancel our large 100+ plus guests wedding we wanted somewhere different to host our "wedding breakfast", a place that people would actually enjoy what they were eating rather than the usual soup and plain chicken breast! We love Cactus Jacks so decided to enquire, and to our delight they let us book the restaurant out for 2 hours for 45 of us on a Saturday afternoon. The staff couldn't have been more helpful, both in the run up and on the day. We preordered and prepaid for all the meals to make things run smoother, and everyone was eating within 10 mins of each other. My wife and I were even given a free drink each by the manager which was a nice touch. Everyone loved their meals and we never felt rushed - the manager even organised an area for us to move to in Manana Manana so we could carry on the party there before the evening reception. We wanted a totally unorthodox wedding day and that's exactly what we got - can't thank the staff enough!

Brilliant. As always, a real treat. Lunchtime menu is a bargain (in terms of eating out), main menu a little expensive. Love the frosted glasses with drinks.

Terrible delivery service. Waited almost 2 hours for the delivery. After several phone calls, the excuses they kept giving were not enough drivers. They then cancelled the order, saying they couldn't deliver. Thus was my 1st and last experience with Cactus Jacks, Doncaster. Should have been honest when the order was being placed. Never again.

Love this place for group and family meals.

Me and my fiance visited Cactus Jacks, it was where we had our first date, and we always said we would come back and im so glad we did!! The food is fantastic here you wont be dissappinted! The staff are all so friendly, Sue was so helpful and served us with a smile, she was lovely. We wernt waiting too long, the food (starter and 2 different mains) was just amazing! We will definately be back again soon!! Definately recommend!!

Good food, on our visit they had no prosecco and a limited choice of red wine by the glass which was disappointing. Service was quick but not that friendly.

I love this place!! Top food at really reasonable prices. I'd also recommend you try the Chimichanga too. Out our party of four, three people had it (two the BBQ pulled pork, and one the Spicy Chicken), and everyone loved it. Not had it at any other restaurant before, and can't wait to have it again!!! They obviously have far greater choice than just that, but extremely popular. Whilst it wasn't busy, the staff were still friendly, and periodically checked if we were OK, or needed anything else. If in the area, and feel hungry, definitely give it a try.

As a former Texas resident, I found the food slight changed for national taste, but nonetheless excellent. The ambiance was amusing and the service was friendly and thorough. I will certainly return.

We made a pit stop in Doncaster on our way from London to North of Leeds. The kind lady on the phone confirmed that there was a vegan menu so we decided to try the place. I like tex-mex The food was tasty. The mexi-rice has a kick (a serious) kick to it. All of the food is well seasoned, and tastes so good. Service was prompt, friendly and we were very happy. Thank you to the team (apologies I didn't ask your names)

Been here at least 20 times and the food has always been amazing! The best Mexican food you find in uae ! Their salsa and chips is to die for!! Amazing amazing amazing food!!

Very lovely tasty food (really big portions too) and a good atmosphere inside. The staff nice and polite but not attentive much, you literally need to get up and go to the counter if you want to order something else as they will just keep on going past without looking or standing near the bar, so that should be improved. Other than that a very nice place for a meal, definitely recommend.

What a great night at cactus Jackson Doncaster, Kelly that not only served us but made us feel welcome ,she is a keeper caucus Jack's, what a lovely friendly lady she was to us , went above and beyond for everyone that I seen her welcome in 😀 well deserved member of your team! Then we met her daughter who also works there and she was just as pleasant as her mum 😊 one more thing Kelly is also hilarious 😂 a multi tasker ,team worker and a genuine lady . Its about time staff like Kelly are recognised for the amazing customer service. ( thank you for nicola operations manager for excellent customer service Ltd)
