Best Sunday lunch to date. Outstanding

Absolutely gorgeous meal at BBK tonight! The staff are so attentive and lovely - they seemed to genuinely love what they do explaining everything if asked and also giving us a heads up on how certain things are cooked / tips! Beautiful food - portions were super filling and flavoursome. The ambience was lovely with the fairy lights and it was lovely & toasty inside as out was dreary and cold! We’ve been once before and both times equally as nice - will be back again soon!! (Can’t seem to add photos but believe me it was spot on!)

Travelled over an hour to try out this restaurant with my husband and we were not disappointed. Amazing food, great service and lovely staff. Portions are really good, Thai fish cakes for starter were amazing, the fish and chips were huge and cooked to perfection and the dessert I had, peanut butter brownie was to die for. Top notch food! Will definitely be returning!

We really cannot recommend this place enough! My partner and I went for a meal to celebrate his birthday, and we were not disappointed! The quality and taste of the food was outstanding!! We had 3 courses each, but the star of the show had to be the cote de boeuf. The chef cooked them to perfection and I love that we were shown them beforehand to choose which cut we would like. The service was impeccable, such friendly staff and we were not left waiting for anything. Cannot wait to return! Thank you Butterflies!

Very overrated , food was very average for the price wanted a rump but only had a massive 24oz and wasn’t aloud to have it halfed and have with my partner and pay the difference and order extra sides to go with it so ended up spending less and having our 2nd option , ordered the garlic and cheese and carmelised red onion and it came and it was picked red onion instead , had a chicken burger and the bread was stale but chicken was decent one we had was boiling hot and the other one wasn’t , croquettes were lovely , staff taking orders were rude and not very helpful , lovely pub inside but very disappointing, the surrounding tables also didn’t seem very happy with the service given

Good standard and plentiful portions - almost too much.

Cannot recommend this place highly enough. Took my dad for Sunday lunch, only my second visit as it’s always so hard to get a table, but wow! Quality of the food is superb, staff are lovely and Friendly, and so efficient.

I normally don’t leave these kinds of reviews but I would like to advise people who happen to be reading reviews to make an informed decision. Myself and my partner were looking for somewhere nice and casual yesterday for a coffee if only for a few mins, after hearing good things we drove here specifically, Google says the shut time on a Sunday is 5:30, however there’s a sign on an intimidating looking door that says it shuts at 5 on a Sunday, the time was 16:40 and we rang the doorbell thinking even if we only had 20 mins, at least we’d get a feel for the restaurant to maybe return on a later date, a man dressed in a suit answers and says that they are closed(I did mention the time on Google/the door and the current time), not even slightly apologetic and kinda dismissive especially when we explained we only wanted a coffee(fair enough turning us away from a Sunday lunch) In any case we started making our way back home and see signs for the Whistle Inn and I would 100% recommend here instead, the restaurant has a gorgeous view of the surrounding landscapes and a small railway line and we spent 3 hours there until it got dark, the few staff members we spoke to were incredibly friendly also, if you’re fancying a late afternoon place to chill and have a drink, it’s a go to Edit for reply, I appreciate the response, I understand it's not your fault that Google takes a while to update. However I’d like to address a few things back, your bookings only for…coffee? Unnecessary in my personal opinion, regardless you can’t expect people to check your social media, Kai may be a nice person but he was slightly dismissive and I’d say working in the public sector at least be apologetic of a situation, we did drive there for specifically your restaurant, at least recommend something different to prevent the wasted journey(the one hour you mentioned in reference to opening times was the reason for the hour long drive there and back for us), that small bit of friendly information would have prevented this review, someone trying to be understanding will never be faulted. The door, when I say intimidating I’m not talking about the style of wood I’m talking about the mouldy printed sign and a ring doorbell, making it feel like someone’s home rather than a restaurant, it’s a weird contrast to the beautiful and bright walls, I’m sure you cater to your patrons well when they can actually enter the place, but we sadly didn't get to experience that

I booked a table for my birthday a family meal, due to unforeseen circumstances could not attend as 3 of the party of 6 not well enough to go, as it was a family meal I did not want to still go without everyone present. I called to explain the circumstance and had the most hostile experience I’ve ever had by a member of staff there, he would not give me his name just said he was the owners husband so how he spoke to me would not make a difference due to that! He was extremely rude and aggressive down the phone even hung up on me which left me utterly gobsmacked, all I asked was would we have to pay a deposit due to the circumstances as if so 3 of us would still come as we could not really afford to lose a £60 deposit, but ideally we would like to cancel an book another day as we were planning on driving an hour there also today. I was that shocked at how he spoke to me I recorded the conversation when I called back after being hung up on, it was just appalling behaviour, due to this I will 100% never book to go there now simply based on how rude a member of staff was. You should never work in the public sector if you have no idea how to speak/ deal with customers

Waited for a while to get a table here and it was worth the wait. You know a restaurant must be good when you arrive on a dark, rainy Tuesday night and it is packed. The atmosphere was nice, the service prompt and friendly, and the food excellent; we massively enjoyed the creative Welsh Beef trio and the desserts were lovely too. We are quite local, we loved it, we’ll be back…

Called here on 22nd February as a group of six. Parking - this was a major issue for us since dedicated parking is non existent and requires a grab a spot parking in narrow streets that contain blocked-off ends and few turning spaces. Situated in a hilly valleys town, access for wheelchair users could be quite difficult and access in and out of of the premises would be equally challenging. Inside the premises, tables and chairs were adequately placed to allow access, but access to the toilets for wheelchair users would prove problematic. The food was of a very good standard and hot, even if my own steak was not cooked as I ordered (it WAS acceptably cooked) and portions were respectable for a rather higher-priced quality meal. The one big let-down for us was the attitude of the one waitress (with a nose piercing) who all too frequently came out with sarcasm and condescending comments. Had this happened at the beginning of our visit, I would seen fit to leave. I still give a 2/5 star for the service since food was delivered timely and other staff members were pleasant. Would I recommend?- Yes, for a visit. The experience is likely to be a pleasant memory for most people. Would I return? - Unlikely. The village has some awkward roads to access the place, one-way streets and dead-ends with difficult parking in my experience. The food was good but the attitude of the waitress left an impression that sometimes could be difficult for one to overlook the negatives and feel the positives.

Absolutely outstanding restaurant. Me and my friends have visited here 3 times and each time we get the best service. The most recent being the “Asian Tapas Night” which was amazing! On each visit, the food is always outstanding, the staff are always polite and friendly and always fast service. Definitely recommend booking here when you can!!!

came to butterflies in bleanvon and it's fair to say we won't be returning. we ordered the steak sharer experience, great amount of food for value, we was told we wasn't able to have the food cooked medium well. So we was able to have medium instead and use the hot block. the steak came out rare completely undercooked and mostly blue in parts. We spent more time cooking the steak and even had to ask for another hot block. by this time our sides and sauces where cold. the food was tasteless and I don't know what all the fuss is about as the lady's serving us was very rude, after speaking to manager she was very arrogant. And then went off and told the staff about us and all the staff where speaking about us by the bar and looking. What a awful experience felt very uncomfortable considering we was just about to pay a £150 bill!

Had a Sunday lunch here as a party of 22 all meals came out quickly vegetables and sides all fresh and hot .Staff were excellent would definitely recommend a visit here . Thank you

It was very very hot inside a few people were complaining to the wait staff. Large portions, which was great. Staff were superb. Parking is a nightmare.

My battered fish was a bit greasy for my liking, and had a few bones in it. Otherwise though the rest of our dinner party enjoyed their dinners. Steak did look very good as did the lamb chops. The scotch egg starter was very good.

Managed to get a cancellation to this place , was fully booked from Oct 23 to Jan 24 , we went this evening 16th Dec , Wow , as soon as you a Walk through the door you’re greeted with a very warm welcome and swiftly seated, decor is great with a roaring wood fire , service was impeccable, very attentive but not to a degree of awkwardness, then the food …. Now I know why it’s a hell of a wait to get in … I’ve dined at Miller , Ivy and Pasture , this place knocks spots of them all .. All the food was cooked to perfection and plentiful my tastebuds were on overload as the food was that good , I can see why the waiting time to experience this fine dining is so long … highly highly recommended.. will definitely be a return visit , well done guys 👌👏

Loved this place. Would have been 5 stars, but my lobster tail was overcooked and really should have been removed from the shell before cooking. Apart from that, the food was exceptional, especially the Butchers Block. Would definitely go back there.

We came today for the festive menu and I cannot recommend it enough. The portions were massive, you can taste the amazing quality of the ingredients and they're cooked beautifully. The staff are all so friendly and attentive. It wasn't our first visit and it definitely won't be our last either. Came here for the first time for my birthday I had a table for one, staff were really warm and welcoming, the restaurant was nice and cosy and inviting...I had the lamb almost licked the plate clean!! Then the staff came out with a cup cake and a sparkler and sung me happy birthday which made me that happy I cried 🫣....Will DEFINITELY be coming back again....thankyou for making my day special.

New restaurant for us. What a fabulous evening. Let’s be honest, it’s rare to stumble across near perfection, but Butterflies is pretty damn close!! We were running 20 mins late for our booking, but the welcome was great and we were accommodated within 5 mins. Staff were really friendly all evening and service was impeccable. As for the menu, only problem was choosing out of so many things that we wanted. The menu was wide and varied, I recall there being at least 3 starters I wanted!! Food was served in a timely manner, not too quick, but nowhere near slow! We prefer not to feel rushed and this was it!! Perfect. Portion sizes are huge, no one could leave hungry! Unfortunately I could manage a dessert but the others shared one and it was excellent and plenty for 2 Bill was surprisingly reasonable even after a good tip, which was fully deserved! If we can we will be back…….. soon!!

If you wanted to sit in a cold draughty back room,which was not very inviting from the off,a red brick wall to one side & other draughty windows & a green like Deco wall covering another which is the way out which is access to toilet & kitchen.the waiting staff were not very pleasant one was quite short with the way she was talking not just to us, our starters were warm not hot at all,I myself had the lamb kebab which was greesy I know lamb is but it was not nice very chewy the meat was 3 small pieces which were uneaten.our mains came which was lukewarm again,all of the 4 meals, again very oily to taste,I has salmon with garlic butter & shrimp sauce,there was no garlic in it 2 king prawns which are not shrimp I ask for the sauce to be separate which the waiters was pulling a face and said I will ask the chef.it came in a small saucepan I tasted it & thank god I didn't put it over the salmon it was awful I left it.we didn't have a sweet as we were cold the room was noisey & tbh glad to get out from that back room as it wasn't at all relaxing.a shame as we was looking forward to a lovely cosy evening with family 😔

Another Amazing visit to butterflies, we went to celebrate my Wife’s 60th birthday, Dayne & all his lovely staff made the day that much more enjoyable, the staff even singing happy birthday bringing the cake out to the table ❤️❤️🥂🥂, the food was as usual a step above the rest 😉 beautiful. Amazing place great staff excellent food highly recommend

Had a great meal and experience, me and my wife went for the ultimate steak experience which was a shared serving of rump, T-bone and ribeye steak along with two sides and two sauces. The steaks were cooked perfectly, very tender, especially the ribeye. For the sides we went for the dirty loaded onion rings and dirty loaded fries, the fries were probably the best "side" I've had, topped with brisket & cheese they were very good. Had more than enough steak so we took the left overs home which even the next day were still tender and reheated very nice, showing the quality of the meat they serve. Staff were also attentive and friendly! Parking is the only downside to dining here, surrounded by busy, narrow residential streets, trying to park whilst trying to be considerate to the local neighbours is very difficult, but it wouldn't affect the rating or put me off coming back!

First thing to mention is that this restaurant is in a very narrow residential street and there is absolutely no parking. How on earth this restaurant was given planning permission to operate I have no idea and it must drive local residents mad. We, a party of 4, arrived at 7.10pm for 7.30pm reservation . We were told we could not be seated as a larger party had to be seated first however when we were shown to our table it was a table that had been free and set when we arrived and we could have sat down. I mention this only because we were offered a drink at the bar however the bar is tiny and has no seating. My advice to other diners don't arrive early! It was pouring with rain outside, noone offers to take your coats so these had to be put over the back of the chairs we were seating on. Our orders were taken. Two of us ordered lamb. Appreciating that lamb is often served 'pink' my friend prefers her meat cooked through. We told the server our preference to be told that the chef will not cook it anymore than he sees fit as it's a 'signature dish'. The starters of soup, goats cheese and mushrooms were fine. Our lamb arrived. The ends were pink however in the main it was raw. The steak was cooked as ordered(not a signature dish?) and pie was acceptable. Two desserts were ordered and were acceptable. Coffee on offer was limited just black filter coffee (coffee machine broken). For 4 people bill was £200. We felt rushed throughout. Not sure what this place is trying to be. When we were leaving there were 4 elderly gents drinking pints of beer sitting at a table?? Customers ranged from smartly dressed to baseball caps and jogging pants. Food was good if you can eat raw lamb. It feels like 'Emperor's new clothes' syndrome is at play here. We will not return and would not recommend.

My wife birthday treat she started with salt and pepper chicken, and I had the garlic mushrooms. For the main meal, we had the surf and turf share platter, half a lobster tail each with plenty of fleshy lobster inside and chateaubriand with about 15 slices cooked to perfection we enjoyed the two sauces of beef dripping and red wine and the sides we chose were dirty onion rings and dirty fries. Both were a great compliment to our main meal. I finished off with an Irish coffee, which was delicious. I highly recommend a visit if you can book a table. The staff are very friendly and helpful, we can't wait to come again

Lucky enough to get a cancellation this evening. We have visited many times and it never disappoints 😁 quality of food, choice and standard is outstanding! Staff are all friendly and welcoming. Lovely atmosphere made even better with the log burner. Always our restaurant of choice… nowhere else comes close to Butterflies standards. If you haven’t visited yet.. do!!! Food is stunning using the best quality meat from my favourite butchers Bromfields Gilwern.

Visited for my 21st birthday and I will definitely be returning. The food was absolutely amazing, the portion sizes were massive and full of flavour. I personally had the Rueben Burger with a side of the loaded onion rings, while my parents had the Chateaubriand for two, Both dishes were presented stunningly! The staff were all extremely friendly and helpful.

I have been to butterflies many times but never to a funeral buffet, this was second to none, everything was so fresh, beautifully cooked and presented. My mum would have enjoyed it so much. Thank you Dayne, Curtis & staff, you gave a little light into a very sad day. Rosalind & John Thorpe.

Some issues with our on line booking but was dealt with considerately professionally and the staff were brilliant fair play. Great starters and the main meals were fabulous… steaks were amazing and sauces and Mac and cheese side really added a bit extra to the meals. Desserts were fab and I loved my peanut butter stack. Atmosphere and surroundings were just right and excellent service. Another customer I spoke to said the Sunday lunches are fabulous but as with this evening need to book well in advance. Hope to visit again in the future and highly recommended 10/10👍🏼😎

Just had to visit to try their new menu we can’t praise it highly enough the surf and turf with sides was amazing. As usual the the service was brilliant with such friendly staff. I can’t recommend the restaurant highly enough

I have given 5* before for meals during the week before, but after a long wait for the Sunday roast I was disappointed. If I could book another roast in a couple of weeks or month or two I wouldn't mind and give it another go, however as the waiting list is so long (which is a good thing) I probably won't get another chance to try again. Potatoes were seasoned lovely and tasted really good but we're very under cooked. There was a group of 7 with myself. Half of us had cooked potatoes and the other half had under cooked, so we know it was just the batch that we had. As I cannot eat red meat I had chicken with the veggie gravy. Although the chicken was lovely, the gravy was a sweet cranberry gravy which I was not informed of or expecting. As a table we were not asked how our food was or if there were any issues until after our desserts. The waitresses are nice but as they're busy you do not want to stop them when they're carrying food or dirty plates or drinks, also waiting for food to be changed while the rest of the table is eating isn't the nicest feeling. Was hoping to go home full and with a doggy bag as we usually do, but ended up having two desserts and then cooking when we got home 😂 After a long wait and a lot of hype around the roast, I was very dissatisfied and disappointed. I feel the response has been to cover your back more than to apologise. Staff didn't ask us if our food was ok when the napkins were dropped over, he asked. If there was anything else we needed. If it was we didn't hear it because none of our table answered. And we all mentioned it at the end to the lady that no one asked us. We would have told you, but also as I said 3 of us didn't want to wait for more potatoes when the others were eating when you were so busy. Which as I said is a good thing when you like your food. Because the veggie gravy was sweet it would have been nice to have been informed to be given the option as sweet on a cook dinner if quite unusual for me. And I am sorry we were late, but we travelled from Newport and my grandad parents were driving for the first time and found it hard to park, even though my partner her mum and my son were all on time as I was helping my grandparents park. If customers being 10 minutes late is a problem please let us know when we walk in. Not telling us it's not a problem and sitting us down and then mentioning it on here when we have issues. I feel because of the reputation of the pub, some staff assume everything is ok and fine when sometimes things aren't. It's always good to check. I do hope I will try the Sunday roast again, but I am not willing to wait another 3/4 months for something I can get plenty of between Newport and bleanavon. After this response I probably won't be, my family will they enjoyed it. But I won't be Thanks

Went with family. Very crowded and noisy. Steak not the best. Cooked ok but not the best cut of steak I have eaten. Quite expensive for what you get. Parking outside a nightmare, obviously not the owners fault, but still a problem.

Friday early evening and the restaurant is already fairly busy with happy diners. We were greeted by the fabulous Joanne who showed us to our table handed us menus and took our drinks order. Drinks arrived swiftly after along with a smile from the gorgeous Ellie. We went for the butchers block sharer with a few different sides and it didn't disappoint it was gorgeous the meat cooked perfectly and we ended up bringing half of it home. Didn't stop me looking for dessert though and when I saw lemon cheesecake on the menu I didn't hesitate to order that again presentation beautiful and the taste was superb. The young gentleman who bought the Bill was a pleasure I didn't catch his name but his customer service was spot on. Another fantastic evening spent in one of our favourites places the autumn decor was gorgeous also can't wait to vist again.

WOW, first time to visit here and luckily got a late cancellation slot on a very busy Sunday afternoon. Very warm welcome on arrival and shown to our table. You could Feel The energy and atmosphere in this well run establishment. Their was no rush for the customer to make choices on ordering which is really good, we went for the Sunday sharing board experience. Having ate at many restaurants and sampling all kinds of Sunday roasts, WOW, this was by a country mile the best Sunday lunch we have had to date, the sharing board came to our table well presented and piping hot, you could have shared it amongst four people. The meats were melt in your mouth and cooked to perfection. The whole sharing board was absolutely spot on. I thought pasture and steak and stamp was hard to beat for quality and taste of food, this place just delivers on another level, we can see why it's so in demand and such a long waiting list to get a good a table on a weekend. The desserts are so good you want them all. Snickers Brownie was the best brownie my wife has ever tasted. Excellent customer service by all the hard working staff, and credit to the ever hard working chefs for producing high end quality food and presentation. We look forward to coming back for steak night. The secret Sunday gravy is so good, they should bottle it to sell. Despite being really excited to visit for my partners birthday, we left pretty disappointed. Due to the occasion, we decided to get a bottle of champagne to celebrate, which was not opened in front of us, nor poured for us (not even an offer). Instead of a wine cooler stand, I had a bucket of ice for our drink sat on our table. (Not great!!!) I felt the tableware and glassware was also disappointing, with thick rimmed & stemmed flutes, and basic cutlery. (Plates were lovely though). When food arrived the presentation was lovely, despite a big handful of green leaves dumped on top of each dish. My salmon was extremely dry but the waitress sorted this with extra sauce. Overall, it didn’t give me a sense of a luxury, more of a pub.

Great food, staff were friendly, drinks reasonably priced, could not fault it. The food arrived promptly and very generous portions. Definitely visit again.
