BURGER OFF in Brighton and Hove

Love that Burger off is on my door step, can walk there and grab a beautifully lush burger. Lovely fresh ingredients, cooked to perfection. Can highly recommend. It has a great base at the New Oak Pub, lovely setting, a married made in foodie heaven

We have had delivery/takeaway from here before and it was lovely. Tonight, however it was awful. The burgers and chips were dry and the onion rings were horrible...frozen rubbish. The blue cheese was just a slab of cheese slapped in the bun. No preparation /presentation. I complained to the restaurant but to no avail. As we’ve had a good meal before we are very disappointed and won’t be going back.

Best burger in Brighton hands down. Just wish I could get one more regularly and conveniently. The two blokes only ever work together and as a result close 3 days a week. You’d have thought the son had spent enough years watching his dad on the grill that he could do a competent job. Anyone can operate the till - that way they could open every day. Either way up to them and they seem happy enough just never understood why they’d limit their profits so much. Also time to get a card machine - especially in a pandemic where cash transactions should be limited...

The guys who run this place care... They care about what is sent out and what goes in to their food. The restaurant has not got the clean lines of other burger places but their focus is on the food and that’s fine by me... If you want a great burger at a very good price then this is the place to go.

Popped in on a break at work, Burgers cooked to order, you can what you want in them and many patties as you request. You cant beat value for money cheaper then well known fast food outlets and the burgers are home made. love the place will be back soon

Top quality burgers, you can't describe that lovely taste of meat, give a try and you won't be dissapointed 10/10 if You're spicy lover, try their challenge with spicy burger, but be really aware😂also can easy say the best chicken nuggets in whole Brighton for sure without doubts the real chicken taste 🐥11/10 all of that plus more prepared by two great men who really knows what are they doing 👏

Been coming here for some time now, I have been a foodie all my life and I can simply state that these guys cook tasty burgers and price is extremely reasonable too. It does what it says on the cover, good burgers that taste good and friendly service!

Had a single bacon cheese burger and was very tasty, good crispy bacon and good tasting burger. Will certainly order again!

Have been here a couple of times, always excellent and VERY filling! Can recommend the Bacon burger, very tasty - I've had the double and single - doubles are big so watch out! Great garlic mayo sauce for the chips, but again the small portion was enough for two! Tucked away on a side street but worth looking out for - don't be put off by the basic cafe look - burgers really are great quality...

Dripping with flavour, was a regular when I lived in Brighton. Half the fun was trying to find it open, used to be more unusual hours! (They have definitely improved this). Back in the days when there was only this place, Grubbs and Uncle Sams, it has remained a survivor. Of course it was always the best and still beats all these overpriced joints popping up recently. The reason why it doesn't come up much in news and reviews is because most of the press aren't Brighton regulars and there isn't much social media history for Burger Off so because it isn't shoved in their face and under their nose, they must assume it doesn't exist. Visit, you certainly won't be disappointed.

I love a good burger, done well it’s such a treat! So very excited when visiting friends in Brighton and they announced that we would be having what they considered the best in Brighton. It was fantastic, we ignored the chips (see other reviews) and went straight in for a double and oh my word, in burger heaven. The blokes running it seem proper down to earth geezers, a breath of fresh air in hipster heavy Brighton. Long may this institution continue - we will be back!

I eat burgers in many places and have experience in making them. I was going to Grabs usually but since I have found this place I’m trying to come here instead. However I find them closed sometimes which is a bit disturbing but I get that they need to rest. It seems the 2 guys are the only workers(owners?) there and they try to do their best. Of the food: the meat and the sauces are damn good, the buns are better than average and grilled slightly. They could improve with the chips though. Absolutely recommended after all. I give 4 stars till the chips improves.

Love this place, I've eaten many burgers in my 35 years and this is up there with the very best! So refreshing in today's hipster culture to find a proper burger joint that is very reasonably priced and totally delicious. The blue burger is fantastic, I've tried both the single pattie and double version and yes as expected they were both delicious! Excited for my next visit.

Beef burgers, chicken burgers, chicken nuggets all banging apart from the chips. Also really cheap for what you get.

Well, it was quite possibly the finest burger I have ever eaten !

After my most recent visit I couldn't help smile at how authentic the place felt. It hasn't changed in a long time but this added to the charm. Basic burgers nothing special regarding quality but many crazy flavours and of course the chilli challenge burger. I stuck with a basic cheese burger but don't be surprised to see jumbo challenges etc in here.

Habiendo visto este lugar figuran en el periódico. . . pensamos en averiguar a qué venía tanto revuelo. Había leído que era un "grasienta" pero cuchara café pensé que podrían hacer un poco más para mejorar el sitio. . . solo un poco. La nevera donde las bebidas estaban estaba sucio y los codos pegados a la mesa. Dicho esto, la hamburguesa en sí era muy sabrosa y obviamente hecha en casa. Las patatas fritas eran muy agradable también, un cambio del que media delgado congelados patatas fritas. . Estas eran las rústicas y. y esponjosas. . Muy bien. Volvería!

Had a double cheese and it was great; cooked to order, made with good quality meat and for a sensible price! Couldn't fault it!

I first heard about Burger Off on a message board thread about the best burger in Brighton and it rated very highly with everyone who had been there, and it has been voted the number one in certain polls. So I made it my business to investigate.The first thing to say is that you might be put off by the appearance of the place - down a dark side street and with fairly basic decor - formica tables etc. But this not the sort of place you go for fine wines and nouvelle cuisine. You're here for a serious burger and the fact that the place is pretty rough and ready means you pay much less than you'd expect for a very tasty product. And I mean MUCH less. There might be better burgers in Brighton - which is a matter of opinion - but you'll pay a lot more for them.The burgers are not grilled, they're cooked on a hot plate so all the flavour stays in. The guys cooking and serving look like they've eaten a few burgers themselves, which is actually testament to their food. They're enthusiasts and they care about what they do.And when they're not working, the place isn't open - so you get the main men taking your orders and cooking or nobody at all. That means it's closed on Sunday and Mondays and maybe some other inconvenient times, but that's a small price to pay for having the A Team on every day.

My first experiance at burger off was not a good one! I ordered a bacon burger and chips .....they had put cheese in it, i explained that i am dairy intolerant he took the burger away and said it might take a while which i was happy to wait....only to find a minute later that he had served me the same burger but with the cheese scrapped off. I once again explianed i am dairy intolerant, he then said to me i would have to pay in full for another burger and it would cost him too much to make me another one! So i said dont worry about it then, he then swipped it off the counter and and threw the whole lot in the bin before i had even got the words out of my mouth! Im fuming that even after i told him i could'nt have cheese he was still prepaired to serve it to me with cheese on knowing it wouls make me ill....i would never go back again and would like an apology and a full refund for this!

This is my favorite local burger joint. Tasty, juicy and good sized burgers at a great price. I hope it never changes.

A friend of ours who visits as regular as possible highly recommended this place and my partner ate there once before and said it was niice and raved about it so we took the kids down there for an early dinner.The burgers are pricey but trust me it's a meal on its own,no chips needed and absolutely delicious as they are well cooked thick and juicy with fresh crisp salad. There are many different options to choose from and can build your own from a wide range of sauces and cheeses etc. Also has the hottest chilli sauce in town so are you brave enough to do the chilli burger challenge I hear out of hundreds only 64 have completed it in 10 years!!!!!Would visit again.x

This place is a must visit, been to a fair few of burger restaurants in the past and this is definitely up there with the best.Little quirky shop, you wouldn't think it was there unless there's a massive queue out the front door! Great service too, more than happy to accommodate any burger recipe changes etc.

This is the place, no frills, just straight ahead properly made burgers, fries and onion rings, grab a soda while you are at it, it is the real deal!

Two big biker like dudes serving up burgers. This is not MacDonalds. The chips here are not fries, and they come with vinegar. The burgers themselves are good, a simple enough selection and good value for money. The place is not a fine dining restaurant - it's reminiscent of a greasy spoon cafe. I approve of this. There's no bull here (except maybe in the burgers). What's not to love?

Absolutely LOVE this place. I go at least once a month. The guys in there are great and always a laugh. The burgers are great value, super-fresh, very tasty, and healthier tasting than a lot of places.And it's got a cool out-of-the-way feel to it.

Amazing! Not long discovered this gem in a back street in Hove. Well worth seeking it out! Burgers are pure beef made on the premises and they just melt in your mouth. Very clean inside. Can eat in or take out. Loads of different choices of burger at very keen prices. Lots of soft drinks on offer plus tea & coffee. Chips are available too. Staff are efficient and really friendly. A real find and I can highly recommend. Once you have tried these fantastic burgers you will definitely be back for more. Definitely the very best I have ever tasted.

The world famous Burger off is by far the best burger bar in Brighton and im sure by the many reviews you can see why.I visit Burger off religiously every Friday for lunch and the friendly chaps always rustle me up a magnificent double cheese with fries. You really cant beat Burger Off although many have tried! They have a very strong following and many of the customers like myself have been going for years. If you really want to spice up your visit feel free to try their super xxxx chilli burger which will blow your socks off and probably put you in hospital. Defiantly not for the faint hearted or people who cant handle the heat but if you are brave enough to try one just make sure you have nothing else planned for the rest of the day. Numerous videos on youtube or their FB page for you to have a giggle over.Burger off have numerous different combos to suit everyone and I would definitely recommended stacking your burger with either onion rings or Black pudding.An absolute joy every time I visit and once you have one you will be hooked for life.See you next Friday :)

Small burger bar tucked away in Hove. Burgers are brilliant. Staff friendly. The chilli burger is a must. Selection of burgers second to none.

Tucked away down Brunswick Street East, the underwhelming outside signage and slightly scary alleyway feel tell you that you are going potentially off the tracks. And then you enter and a another world greets you. Fresh burgers, rolled by hand are being grilled fresh and to perfection in front of you. The welcoming and friendly guys who run the place (reminiscent of the Hairy Bikers but without the accents) will serve you the best burger you have ever tasted, it's fresh, good quality meat. Generous sizes, good food, brilliant value. This gem of a find is always popular, so can everyone else stop going please? Thanks.

Title says it all, I've been making the 50 mile round trip at least once a month for longer than I care to remember. Gourmet burgers at a sensible price apparently made by a local butcher for burger off only. The chilli burger is immense, and my wife has tried the blue cheeseburger and the bacon burger but her new favourite is the Mexican. The milkshakes are to die for and the chips have got a lot better recently.Simply put, I've never had a better burger anywhere so do your taste buds a favour and go

Now I do like a burger but these guys do the freshest and best burgers you will ever have, the salad is fresh the burger buns toasted to perfection burgers are fresh from a butchers no frozen rubbish, the milkshakes are amazing to, the guys there are very welcoming and friendly and all for a great price a must visit for any burger fan.

Been a while since my last visit - I just keep forgetting it's there, tucked down a little side road. Famed for its 9.2million on the Scoville scale XXX Hot Chilli Burger you might think the place is all gimmicks and afterburners - but you'd be wrong.Their regular burgers are freshly cooked to order and as tasty and meaty as it gets - the chips, crisp on the outside and all soft and fluffy inside. Perfect. Grubbs has gone downhill so far that I'd take a McDs over it, but Burger Off remains great!

My trip to Burger Off was brief and wasted as I was with the girlfriend. The décor and atmosphere isn't one for a romantic sit down meal but the burgers are awesome! 100% beef patties with full on flavour. I went for a classic option just to try it, if we were in Brighton for longer I would have liked to work my way down the menu!

Would have been good if the man hadn't 'burgered off' after taking my order and to make it worse his mate also ,chipped in' and then also left. I ended up checking where they were and they were 'milkshaking' outside and when i asked what they were doing they said 'getting saucy' and pelted ketchup and mayonnaise sachets at me and Albert ... I let me off when they eventually served such lovely Burgers as it was 'fryday' after all

This is quite tricky to find, down an unassuming street off Western Road, but it's well worth visiting as the burgers here are absolutely delicious. Two guys run it and know what they're doing, there are plenty of options including a famous burger dubbed the hottest in the world. The burgers are well-seasoned and juicy, the chips are plentiful and on a sunny day, you can pop down to the beach just a minute away.

Nothing, NOTHING can prepare you for this burger! The heat is insane. As per the owner said... "It'll ruin your weekend!" He was right.I had a mere mouthful of this burger and I was knocked for six. If you are a Brighton & Hove resident or regular visitor you will know that we are quite spoiled for choice here & don't need to resort to BK of MD's if we fancy a burger. But this one is a particularly well-hidden gem, although clearly not a secret as it is thriving!Fantastic burgers and an amazing choice of toppings, especially the chilli: and do bear in mind that if you do order the #10 chilli sauce you will have to sign a disclaimer in case it kills you - which it probably will. The #5 is a killer!Only downside is that they don't deliver, but it's worth the trek.

Having been recommended this place by eldest son when it was in Portland Road Hove over 10 years ago I have been having their burgers ever since. The blue cheese burger is my favorite burger they do they use real blue cheese. I recommend anyone to give it ago.

Friendly guys, quick service but ultimately incredible burgers. This place is down a side street, best kept secret in Brighton. Oh and you can actually get chips unlike that other place.

I LOVE this place!!!! It looks like it is a bit rubbish (not on Western Rd and a bit run down) but the food is wonderful. The veggie burgers are absolutely amazing - by far the best I have ever had. I live around the corner and am desperate to go almost every day (you will need willpower once you've been once!) The men who work there are really nice and very friendly. My favourite is the veggie Blue cheese burger (with real cheese) - incredible!

I love going here and don't go often enough tbh. It's been a year and I went last week. The burgers are great quality so once I finished eating in the seated area, I ordered just a burger in a take away box as I got hooked. Good banter with the main guy who served me.

I am fortunate to live in Hove which is 10 minutes walk to Burger off. These guys know how to put a burger together, the quality of the meat is the best I have ever had in a burger, non greasy with steak like texture. My personal favourite is the bacon double blue cheese burger with real blue cheese and an additional chicken breast. I have eaten Coggin's, Burger Brothers and various other pretenders. This is the real deal and is great value to boot. I even had my birthday dinner there last Saturday with seven of my mates. The one X chilli sauce is lovely (not XXX) Go get some you will not be disappointed, enjoy Michael

I buy far the best Burger joint on the South Coast and maybe the whole of the UK. Tucked away down a side street, you could miss this place. Lucky for everyone in Brighton & Hove its a very well known joint. Word of mouth and notoriety is how this place makes it mark, so anything i can do to help this place I will. As they say its easy to get a bad review and 10x harder to get a good one - i can not fault them at all (apart from the XXX Chiller Burger) I am one of the foils in the world that have completed there XXX Chilli Burger Challenge and have to say i would never do it again. Staff in the joint are the best and the food is even better, they knock some insane burger stacks. The burgers are amazing and that is under selling them. Talk about underselling, they are amazing value as well.If you are in the area, DO NOT MISS this Burger joint!

So i went here on Friday 13th feb 2015, I was the last customer of the day 9:56pm so I ordered a a bacon burger and chips the chips wasn't cooked they was still hard and my burger was raw right the way thought it just had colour on the top I had 3 bites then seen it and since Friday ive been sick, the biggish guy don't cover face hair and and then place is just so bad I will never come here again and I'm going food standard agency Monday morning

Simply put, burger off sells the finest chicken burgers known to man. I'm not a beef eater (I know, shame on me) so always have the chicken, double stacked with onion rings and cheese. Absolutely amazing. The owners are fantastic and whilst usually busy, will still have time for a quick chat.I've also introduced friends to the delights of burger off and not one of them has been disappointed. I recently moved from hove to worthing and my first thought was how am I going to get my burger off fix! I can no longer go weekly but will make the trip at least once a month!

Great burgers at great prices. Love this place as it doesn't pretend to be anything fancy, it's just delicious burgers at decent prices. Chips are a bit average but it's all about the meat which is outstanding.

My boyfriend and I went for a burger here yesterday. I was faced with two different burger type options bean or protein which made me a very happy veggie. The burgers were delicious and great value. I loved the chips although my boyfriend would have preferred fries and ketchup. Next time I feel like a treat I will go again. Great milkshake too and friendly service but not overbearing- perfect for a shy person like me :) cheers

On entering this place for the first time you might be forgiven for thinking you'd just entered another greasy burger bar. If you turned around and left at that point you'd have missed a treat. The owner is a character and usually up for a bit of banter which passes the time while your burger is being cooked to order, only meat, nothing else goes into the burgers so that even if you have a double (half-pounder) you don't end up feeling as if you've been welded to the floor. It'll never win any Michelin stars, but that's not the point, if you want a really good burger, give this place a try and if you're a chilli maniac, they offer a challenge to eat the hottest chilli burger in the world, if you finish it you get it for free, but you have to sign a legally biding disclaimer, but beware people have reacted so badly that an ambulance needed to be called more than once. My advice is stick to the regular burgers and leave the challenge to the nutters.

...and I also like how you queue up alongside the kitchen where all the action happens so you're well hungry by the time you get to the front. Might call my order in next time though because it looked like the whole of Brighton and Hove had the same idea = to go and get a fantastic fresh burger from an independent burger joint. A friend told me its the best burger in Brighton & Hove and I think they might be right :) 5 stars!!! Only wish they were open later for my drunken burger needs.

First started off Portland Road in Hove as I recall ... has moved on and still a proper burger joint , years of experience , kitchen is visible and immaculate ...etc etc etc.... not a "Restaurant" but a place for exceptional burgers ..... let down by standard fries / rings / pops etc but ..."Hello?" ....the Burgers are in general very hard to beat if you want something "quick and street" so to say ....always freshly prepared and well chosen ingredients......if you haven't been before keep it simple and try a Peanut Butter and Banana single Burger on it's own perhaps ;-) .... enjoy the randomness of a BO experiment at least once I'd say but you must sign the disclaimer if you are insane enough to take on the heavy Chilli jobs.

I used to be a Gourmet Burger Girl, but now Burger Off is known to me - that is my burger of choice! Never had such a delicious tasting burger, although I love spicy food have stayed away from the XXX one but a medium chill burger is just perfect. Haven't eaten in, only take away, and they can be a bit tricky to handle but overall a very very enjoyable burger. Now it is our weekly treat.

Me and my husband come here every week and every week our burgers taste better than the last. They are absolutely fantastic! We will never go anywhere else. Hidden little gem!

I love this place, a similar menu to well known local chain which offers plenty of variety of burger. It is not glamorous, just great, tasty burgers served by staff who work hard. The two guys that run it are permenant fixtures which gives Burger Off a consistent level of service and Burger. My favourite is the Mexican - Peanut butter and Chili and The Black and Blue, Black Pudding and Blue Cheese all served with a juicy burger. or two! To top it all off, the good burgers are brilliant value, costing between £3 and £5 and are very filling.Best value and probably best burger in Brighton and Hove.

Some friends had been raving about this place for months. As it turned out, my first taste of a burger from this place was a take away that had been rushed to my house by some friends whilst I was laid up after an operation. I'm not sure but it's possible this burger was somewhat responsible for me heeling faster than expected as it is surely divine!Having had a couple more burgers I can confirm that this wasn't a one off, consistently good burgers at an incredible price!

I do not understand where the poorer reviews are coming from for this place. I have been visiting for a long time, and the burgers are consistently great, and the chips are fine, and the two guys always very entertaining and polite. I have a fantasy perfect burger meal: Chips from Bankers, Milk Shake from Gourmet Burger, and the Burger from here, Burger Off! But that would be a lot of trekking around, and there is nothing wrong the chips or the milkshake here, they're lovely, and that goes for both the meat and the veggie options.

I have been eating here for over 5 years at least once a week mostly more and have never had bad food, burgers are lovely as are the onion rings and milkshakes to die for especially the gingerbread!! Best chicken nuggets ever and everything is so cheap, never had any complaints and will continue to eat here religiously until they close

Came here with friends and we ordered onion rings on the burgers at an extra cost. We had them to takeaway and should have checked before leaving because we were only given plain burgers.The burgers weren't greasy, but in the two bites we took it was all we could taste. It was the same with the chips. We threw the remainder of our meals away and went elsewhere.

My boyfriend and I eat here at least once a week. It may be a 45 minute drive each way but that still doesn't stop us!!They really are the very best burgers you'll ever eat! I always go for a double bacon burger, stacked up with onion rings, and extra onion rings and chips on the side. For 2 of us to eat like kings it's always around £10 to £14! Bargain! I'd happily pay triple for the quality of food! The meat is always juicy and full of flavour. Iv never had a bad one!The staff are friendly and attentive and remember you which is always a nice touch. Don't forget to try the gingerbread milkshake too! We always get one for the journey home :-)Thanks Burger Off for never letting us down!! You've got 2 loyal customers for life with us!!

The food in here was absolutely disgusting, even by greasy spoon standards. There are a lot of different types of burgers on the menu though, many of which I haven't see elsewhere. Some of the odd toppings include peanut butter and an incredibly hot sauce.I ordered the double xxx burger, which you have to sign a disclaimer for, and a large chips. I made a mistake in purchasing the larger versions of both of these as both tasted terrible. Firstly the chips seemed to have been deep fried for too long as they were completely lacking in flavour and were hard, without being crunchy. The salad, bun and sauce inside the burger were alright. However, the meat itself tasted unpleasant.The staff inside were nice enough, but they didn't seem to be very attentive. When you order chips they ask you if you want salt and vinegar instead of letting you put it on yourself. I asked for just salt but I was given just vinegar. Had the chips been edible I would have asked for another portion. Instead I chose to throw them out. It wasn't just a mistake with my order as the customer before me returned his food. It turned out that they had misheard 'onion rings' as 'peanut butter'.The place is a bit out of the way as there aren't many other places to eat down this particular street and you have to know where it is in order to find it as they don't have a sign sticking out into the street. The interior was much better than I was expecting and it was very clean and fairly nicely decorated for a greasy spoon.
