Was lucky enough to get a "walk in" early on Saturday evening. My daughter and I enjoyed an oyster each then we both had the delicious Buoy Bowl Third visit to this restaurant and I can highly recommend 😁

I had a wonderful meal to celebrate my birthday last Wednesday. We were welcomed in a friendly manner and shown to a perfectly positioned table near the window. As it was my birthday our daughter had arranged for us to have a complimentary drink on arrival I was also given a birthday card from the staff The service was very friendly and efficient. We had 3 delicious courses which we thoroughly enjoyed . We would love to return in the summer to enjoy the views from the terrace and try other things from the menu. I thoroughly recommend the Buoy and Oyster.

An excellent Sunday lunch for two in Margate. Couldn’t have been better.

We had been to the Buoy and Oyster on quite a few occasions before, so were expecting a lovely meal but this time absolutely every dish we had ordered was outstanding. The service was also excellent despite the fact that it was a Saturday evening and super busy. We had expected to have to wait a while but we didn’t have to. Top effort by all in the team. Many thanks for looking after us so well.

Fabulous! From the personal welcome at the door, to the chefs asking how we were as we walked past the open kitchen and the great service from Darren our super friendly waiter. The food was delicious too. We had such a lovely evening we could not fault it. Thank you to all at Buoy & Oyster - we will be back!

We came here on a wet Tuesday. Things got off to a bad start as they wouldn’t let our dog accompany us. We’d been keen to visit after reading positive reviews and had come out of our way from Deal. However we were able to return half an hour later. We ordered the cod and chips which was excellent. It was served with crushed peas and tartare sauce. Despite having a full bar service I couldn’t get a beer as “the pipes were being cleaned”. Surely this sort of task should be undertaken in preparing to open for the day, especially as that isn’t until midday. The business as a consequence forwent revenue. It’s easy to find and close to a pay and display car park (2-3 min walk). Service (taking orders and delivering food) was quick, without being too quick. Menu has a wide range of dishes beyond fish and chips.

Went a few years back and as good as ever. We had the shared platter at £24 a head and worth every penny. Doest look like enough when it first comes but it really fills you up. Lovely service and such a nice setting too. If you are in Margate and like fish, you really should give it a try.

Good food, friendly helpful staff. Not your usual choice of fish -catch of the day was great. Everything well cooked and flavored. Desserts very fine.

We arrived at the restaurant on a Saturday afternoon without booking, only to find there were no tables available. My wife said "Oh No, it's our Anniversary". After a few minutes wait a table was found for us and we were seated and treated to two glasses of fizz. We had a lovely meal, and as always the oysters were terrific. And so were the tacos to start. The halibut and sea bream main courses were lovely. And to top it all we were then treated to a Happy Anniversary ice cream! A special thank you to Grace, who looked after us, and to all of the friendly staff who helped make our day so special.

This is the best place in Margate for seafood and high quality dining. The decor is amazing, extensive wine list and beautiful views over the beach. What really sets it apart is the staff - Reece and Mark were our waiters and they were amazing - knowledgable, efficient and genuinely charming. Neither could have done more to make our evening a memorable one. This place should definitely be on your Margate bucket list!

We had not been before & when I booked it online I thought I was going elsewhere. We were welcomed & shown to our table The menus had varied choices & as pescatarian's we were happy. We chose the celeriac & mushroom filo parcel from the roasts part of the menu. When the meal arrived I can’t deny I was disappointed with only 2 vegetables carrot & cavolo nero plus roast potatoes. I asked for more which the waiter was happy to do but it was more of the same. I did ask if ordinary roasts had the same vegetables he said plus cauliflower cheese! Not to worry we enjoyed the extra veggies. My husband’s dessert was sticky toffee pudding, he was delighted & I had ice cream. We’ll definitely return for more. It was all delicious.

The service was impeccable, but when you are paying 12.5% you expect it. We visited for my mums birthday, she is a leap year baby so this was a special one! Things started off well l, she was kindly given a complimentary glass of Prosecco and starters were good, mussels would have benefited from a slice of bread or roll not so good with the mains. Firstly I was shocked there were no specials just the normal menu. Husband ordered fish and chips and said the were good, fish very fresh, I had the buoy bowl, it was pretty good, prawns were delicious but cod was greasy and the batter on the calamari was under cooked, it would have also benefited from a side salad to break up the greasy fried food. My Dad ordered the beef dish and the pasta dish was cooked incorrectly , the situation was handled amazingly, he was given the incorrect meal to “snack” on whilst the correct meal was cooked, he didn’t particularly enjoy the beef dish and felt it was overly salty. My Mum ordered the Lobster Mac and cheese - it’s was awful, dry with a few chunks of rubbery lobster, I would suggest prepared and reheated. Staff were amazing and offered to prepare something else but by this point we had all finished eating and mum didn’t want to cause a fuss. The meal was removed from the bill. As I said above service was amazing but the food did not live up to expectations

Ate here as a solo diner- super easy to book a table online and was given a great table which is also highly appreciated when eating by yourself (thanks!). Was served by the wonderful Darren- so friendly and knowledgeable of the menu. All staff were wonderful. Ate delicious oysters and bouy basket- both were lovely- especially the prawns in the basket! Need to come back for the mussels- they looked and smelt incredible too. Lovely view also.

My wife’s birthday, let’s go somewhere special! Starters ok. Mains ,mine not as ordered so had to wait,left with substitute .My wife had Mac n cheese with lobster , Mac n cheese was dry and tasteless lobster part was just chewy,mine when it came was very salty, others in the party the meals were just okay. Not so special !! My wife’s main was not charged for . Got the offered discount but stung 12.5% service charge £17 . Not very impressed Not very Special, will not be going back

Very friendly staff. Great fish, we loved the bout bowl- the prawns were excellent. We also visited for Sunday roast. The lamb shoulder was the best I’ve ever had- I want to know how they cooked it!!😂

My family and I took an impromptu visit to the Buoy and Oyster after the sea front chippy we had planned to visit was closed, and oh boy, are we glad we did. We were greeted by the hostess who seated us at a tall table. Our server, Dan, arrived within minutes with a bottle of water for the table before introducing himself and eloquently describing the mains and their prices. We ordered two large Sauvignons to compliment the local cod and chips, which was delicious, and enjoyed the oysters as a little treat. The service was impeccable and the food exquisite. If I could have given 6 stars, I would have. The bill came to a little over £100 for 2 adult meals, 2 children's meals, drinks, oysters, and inclusive of service charge. Great value! We will definitely be returning next time we visit Margate.

Lovely Valentine’s meal. Daniel our waiter was perfectly attentive and couldn’t ask for more. Moules and pigs cheek starter’s amazing. Fruit de mer and whole crab also amazing. We have dined here a few times and this was the best. Thank you and very highly recommended.

Fantastic fish and chip shop right by the beach in margate for a proper seaside dinner. Some of the freshest fish I've ever had and great vegetarian/vegan options with lots of variety and reasonably priced. Can't rate this place highly enough.

Visit date 4/2/24. This was a surprise date lunch for my Wife something we do not get much time for these day but so important to take time out when you can. Well what a great choice of venue, first visit! From the moment we stepped foot in the door we were greeted by a well presented smiling member of the team. The place looked extremely busy. Always a good sign of a great establishment. Our table wasn’t ready. We had turned up slightly early to get out of the wind.we were shown a side table to sit whilst ours was ready. Menus presented to pursue over and drinks order taken in good time. The atmosphere was calm and relaxed. I glanced over to the open kitchen to see the most relaxed brigade of chefs. The chef at the front must be the head chef. He was calm and collective in his approach in leading his team during this busy period. After a short period we were shown to our table. Perfect table! Overlooking the beech and sea. Great spot to chill and relax. My wife had the amazing oysters for starters and tried both from both locations . Ireland and Essex she preferred the Irish ones. I had the amazing mouthwatering fisherman’s pie scotch egg. Incredible! For mains my wife opted for the wild halibut dish which she said was just amazing with great flavour profiles. She said she would have it again in a heartbeat. I opted for the traditional beef roast. Again just amazing flavours a lovely portion of the most flavoursome beef I’ve ever had. Cooked to perfection. My wife as always opted for the classic ice cream as a dessert and for me a lovely locally roasted latte. This place clearly knows what it’s doing. The menu tells the story with as many local suppliers used to conjure up these amazing dishes. All the staff we came into contact with were polite friendly and full of knowledge about the menu. We would like to thank the whole team that worked this shift a big thank you for making our first visit to this family restaurant such a memorable one. We will be back and have already recommended it to friends. Thanks again

Excellent lunch at The Buoy & Oyster. We both had the buoy bowl-king prawns, calamari, battered fish served with fries & alioli. All cooked to perfection. We also shared a bowl of samphire which was very tasty. As it was my birthday I indulged in a bloody mary which is the best I have ever tasted. I was also given a very unexpected complimentary ice cream treat as it was my birthday. Would fully recommend & we will definitely be going back.

Prawn and pork dumplings were divine. The mackerel special was delicious. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable.

Absolutely stunning food and service tonight! Visited for my birthday and was offered complimentary drink for my birthday upon arrival. The waiter was so kind and helpful and added a lovely touch to my dessert at the end of our meal. The food was delicious and I would highly recommend the restaurant!

Bouy and Oyster is a lovely fish restaurant on the seafront with really fresh tasty food and friendly service. Decent value for the quality of the food.

A very nice up-market seafood restaurant in the lower high street of Margate. Very nice and modern decor. Good quality food if you like seafood, if not then this isn't really the place for you. Cod and Chips is £19. Now I eat in a lot of restaurants around Europe and I just can't help feeling the food and drinks are not only overpriced for Margate and Thanet but generally it's just overpriced. I paid £250 for 6 people. So although I liked this restaurant for me not being a massive seafood person and the fact I strongly felt it was overpriced, I probably wouldn't go back.

If you want to still be hungry after a 3 course meal then this is the place for you. Sea-bass fillet, smaller than a fish finger Rip of Britain

Pricier than some of the other local restaurants but definitely worth the money. Had a lovely seafood meal that was just that little bit different. Non-fishy dessert (!) was pretty special, too :) Compliments to the chefs. Service also excellent.

My first visit, so I didn’t know what to expect. Firstly the staff fantastic. The restaurant has a wonderful atmosphere, and this immaculate clean. I was really impressed with the food, the oysters We’re up there with the best I’ve had, and the rest of the food was delicious. The boy and oyster is up there with my top 10 favourite restaurants now.

I eat at the Buoy and Oyster this evening. The crème brûlée was badly curdled. I was fine when I arrived but after my meal I became nauseous. Before leaving the premises I suffered from severe sickness and immediately on my return home I was very sick again. This is a serious disappointment to me. I do not expect to suffer in this way when I eat out. I am unaware whether it was the crème brûlée or one of the other dishes which caused my severe sickness, it really does not matter, what does matter is that this should not have happened and the restaurant did not even consider it appropriate to apologise until prompted. I look forward to hearing from the proprietor with their apologies.

Absolutely delicious food. The best chowder I’ve ever had. I’m still thinking about it today. A lovely meal with a wonderful cocktail list. Would heartily recommend.

We attended the Christmas party night last night for our work night out. Great atmosphere and DJ. Nicest roast I’ve had eating out in a very long time, food was lovely as was the service. Nice touch the chef coming out end of service to thank us. Thank you all we will be sure to return.

Good food, great staff and a buzzy atmosphere

We saw the Buoy and Oyster online whilst looking for somewhere special for Sunday lunch on my Birthday the night before coming to Margate for our first ever visit. The website looked amazing and the reviews were just as good. So we rocked up for midday and we had a very warm welcome from the front of house staff / taken to a table with a view of the harbour. Drinks order was taken which I went local with the Anno Kent Dry Gin paired with soda water which I can definitely recommend (soda because being type two diabetic keeps the sugar level low) We both ordered the Sunday roast beef which was one the the best that I have had and I could have easily polished off a second one :-) Everyone of the staff are brilliant and the food is awesome. We will definitely be back x

This was quite a disappointment. I'd heard good things about the Buoy and Oyster and am particularly fond of independent seaside restaurants specialising in seafood, but we were met with very mediocre food; good, if a little ungenerous, service; and a bill that in no way reflected our enjoyment of the dinner. Me and my friend shared the seafood platter for 2 (£50, pictured). This was presented as an archipelago of shellfish poking out of an insipid suggestion of a seafood broth. The mussels were juicy and flavourful; the scallops overcooked and masked in an unimaginative nduja sauce; the prawns a bit firm and lacking in any real flavour, and the razorclams were overcooked to the point of resembling rubber bullets. It was a let down to not have the seafood, the star of the show, live up to what it could have been being right next to the sea. We also had two of the Bloody Mary's, the Bloody Buoy Mary and the Vegan Bloody Mary (£14.50 and £12 respectively, both pictured). Whilst being a little oversized, they had a good spice mix and strong flavour. The Bloody Buoy Mary came with bacon, an oyster (which was very good), and various other embellishments. The house smoked haddock chowder (£12 regular, £14 large) was excellent. A warming, creamy, and fishy bowl of goodness. Would highly recommend getting this and a side of skinny chips (£5). Our waiter was friendly and welcoming without being intrusive or over familiar. However, when we raised our distaste and disappointment for the seafood platter with him, there was no sense of trying to make things right. He chose instead to focus on our complimenting of the chowder. I think, and I'm aware it's a slightly touchy subject, that it would've been a good gesture to comp something, even just the chips, off the bill considering that we didn't eat any of the razorclams past the first few mouthfuls and didn't particularly enjoy the rest. Even assuring us that our comments had been passed on to the chef would've been something but we left feeling unsatisfied from the food and uninterested in the idea of eating here again given that our dissatisfaction felt unheard. The atmosphere was OK. a nice view of the harbour, but very loud and noisy interior (when there were only two other tables present) and harsh lighting made us both feel a bit tense and unable to settle in for a nice meal. It's a shame that this meal didn't live up to the hype or our expectations. I think given the price, a final bill just over £100 for 2, some of these disappointments sting a little more. There is cheaper, fresher, better cooked fish in restaurants a short walk away. Perhaps some of the other mains are executed better, but again given the price, I don't feel it is worth the risk of having another bad experience here again.

We visited this week and found everything to be decent enough. Our waitress Emily was lovely, very professional and friendly and left us feeling relaxed and looked after. Food was decent value overall, whole crab quality was impressive.. overall quality of fish was great.. I don’t think the food was a showstopper but as an overall it’s a thumbs up from us and we would definitely return. :)
