Buon Appetito in Mid Sussex

Shame as has a captive audience but simply not worthy of the price. The starters were cold, greasy and the garlic bread was awful. They did replace it with zero fuss which was great. The mains were ok. The pannacotta had split/curdled so was more akin to rice pudding. Won't be returning. Also, when there is an issue with the food, service should not automatically be added. We would have paid service anyhow as it was reasonable but just the gesture/recognition not all was as it could be.

Horrible experience! We came here to grab an express lunch as we know the one in hove.This is the original, so we expected it to be good.Firstly we were told that there was nowhere for us to wait inside for the 20 mins to make our pizza, (despite the restaurant only having one table in) so rather than waiting in the wind, we sat in the car.When we collected our pizza we requested pepper and chilli oil before we left and we’re told that they would be an extra charge!!!! WHAT???!!…. No extra at hove!Then we went to pay, and they told us that actually for the lunch offer the prefer cash!!!!The pizza was horrible! We have eaten at the hove branch so many time so had a comparison.Both bases were burnt and tasted bitter, the tomato sauce lacked any flavour and the base was so doughy….well mine was my companions was rock hard!He had mushroom pizza, ….well 8 bits of dry charred mushrooms!!!Never again! Better to have a supermarket sandwich for a better lunch deal!!!

Not impressed. The whole experience was very rushed. My starter was so hot - it had clearly been microwaved. No sooner had we finished starters and the mains came out. Again - far too hot. Restaurant was stupidly busy and very noisy. Music played far too loud. It’s my birthday today and my husband had called the restaurant to tell them. Despite this, there was no recognition. Yet another customer had a birthday and had the birthday song sung to them with a cake brought out. I had nothing. Food was ok. Nothing spectacular and expensive for what it was. All in all a very disappointing experience on my birthday. We will not return

Delicious authentic Italian. A please tell surprise to find passing through an otherwise ordinary town. Recommend the seafood risotto and mussels starter and best bruschetta have had in long time. Go hungry as it will be a feast.

Booked a table for two on the Monday for Saturday for 7.30 got there at 7.28 on the Saturday and was asked to sit at a table outside because the table was not ready after 10 minutes of waiting cancelled the table have had problems with this restaurant before but thought would give it a go but no way never go back no organisation very disappointed as it was my birthday and my boyfriend wanted to give me a special treat as others have said it expensive

We had popped down to Brighton as it was a beautiful evening, we had drinks on the beach and then looked for somewhere to eat, everywhere was busy so we decided to head back home and see if we could get a table at Buon Appetito in Burgess Hill as we have eaten here several times and each time the meal has been brilliant. It was nearly 8.30pm by the time we arrived but they were delighted to have us even though the restaurant was very busy buzzing with atmosphere. They fitted us in and the meal did not disappoint. If you love fresh pizza and fresh homemade pasta this is the place to visit. Authentic Italian food and great service.

What can I say but wow and thank you for the excellent service food and ambiance we were greeted with such warmth and attended to with such kindness the food was absolutely amazing there were 19 of us the food all came together and hot and perfectly cooked the whole family had a fantastic time and we WILL be back thank you Eugenio and your team you helped make my evening memorable x

Near-faultless. Friendly staff upon entering, a large menu and more than happy to cater for our peculiar dietary requests. The garlic bread to start was delicious and the pieces large and the olives were some of the best I've ever eaten worldwide. There was a main for everyone - pizza, pasta, chicken, steak. I had the chicken and potatoes which was delicious: rich tomato sauce with plenty of peppers and a decent sized chicken breast and others had a lovely rustic pizza and similarly delicious pasta. The ONLY complaint I could have is that the chicken was possibly slightly dry. All in all, fantastic food and given how much of it there was, the price was more than reasonable.

We always enjoy food from Buon Appetito. Recently due to the pandemic we’ve had more takeaways and always impressed with the friendly service, reasonable prices and delicious menu. This week we were very grateful they went to the trouble of delivering to us despite not offering delivery that night as we were having to isolate so couldn’t travel out to pick up. Much appreciated!

Called this restaurant just after they opened up for the evening at 6pm on a Saturday evening to order take away. Order was taken and were told that it would be ready for 7:10pm. After driving there and eventually finding a parking spot in time for the scheduled time, we were informed that we should have been told it would be ready for 7:45pm?! Wasn’t invited inside the restaurant to wait or any apology offered. Very disappointed and would not recommend based on this. If you cannot cope with offering take away service as well, maybe stick to the in-restaurant dining only.

This is becoming a go-to for family meals. The menu has a something to please everyone, the food and service are great. We sat by the front this time with the window open and it almost felt like we were on the continent - we would definitely ask for this table again.

Excellent service and fantastic food is the only way to describe everything at Buon Appetito. Everything on the menu is fab and the Pizzas are exceptional, will be back again soon.

My wife recently started to work in Burgess Hill and brought back pizza she had one lunchtime. It was so authentic and reasonably priced. As I was on annual eave and daughter on school holidays today, we decided to meet up for lunch and get pizza from Buon Appetito. The lady who served us was professional and very friendly - An asset to the business. Just before I ordered, someone paid for one pizza £4 contactless on card. When it came to me,the ist was £12.75. I offered my card and the 'manager' said it was 'cheaper to pay by card and asked me to go and get cash from the cashpoint machine in the nearby garage. I felt insulted and disappointed. I was about to walk off and not have anything but he then said OK. Rude, patronising and unprofessional. With COVID, contactless is encouraged. Maybe someone should ask why he wants cash? Great pizza but never again because of him and his attitude.

We’d been looking forward to having a treat takeaway during half term and this didn’t disappoint. It was piping hot, so fresh and delicious. Everyone in the family was very happy with their choice & we will definitely be back.Well done for making a dreary Wednesday so much better. Thank you so much. My family and I used to travel a few miles into Brighton to find a decent Italian restaurant, until we tried this gem on our doorstep! Have had takeaway or deliveries 5 or 6 times in recent months, not eaten in the restaurant yet, but staff are always friendly and the food is amazing (especially the spaghetti bolognese and pizzas). Will keep ordering deliveries/takeaway during lockdown, and will definitely eat in in the near future. Thank you!

I love this restaurant! The staff are so friendly, the service is fast and the food is delicious! The layout of the restaurant makes it cosy without feeling like you're sharing a table with strangers. Would 100% recommend!

First visit,very covid safe warm and welcoming on arrival.Calamari excellent,clams and tortellini wonderful,and my funghi with tagliatelle faultless. So full we had to bring our dessert home😄 Very attentive and cheerful service...we will return when we can!.

Had a lovely authentic Italian meal. Very attentive staff and it was a well organised restaurant. We ordered a variety of meals within our party and each and every one was excellent. Not the cheapest but worth paying that little bit extra. If you like a lager rather than a wine then Moretti is on draught.

We went for lunch. The main was amazing, very nice. The waiter didn't speak much English, he didn't understand me when i asked which flavour of ice cream was in the "mixed ice creams". I would also have a look at the menu before you go in, they were filthy and sticky. Somehow the ink had been printed on there multiple times, we could hardly see what was to order. Dessert is nothing to be excited about.

First visit last night, and it did not disappoint. A warm welcome and attentive staff through the meal, but not over the top. The restaurant is beautifully decorated and the background music and lighting added to the atmosphere. The food was fabulous - great tasting and beautifully presented. Looking forward to returning to try more - was difficult to make a choice from the menu!

Visited recently , the welcome was good but that’s where it stopped (unless you are a regular) order taken , but had to ask for a finger bowl, main course had to ask for parmigiana and pepper where as old customers had full attention of the staff whilst we languished opposite trying to attract attention for the above mentioned items, when discussing this with the owner he became very defensive not accepting our constructive polite criticism.It’s a shame the food was good prices reasonable but the service let it down

thought I was going to have a real treat but ... everything tasted as though it had been reheated from lunch time. The garlic bread was burnt and inedible and the bruchetta was soaked in oil that tasted reheated. Very disappointing as I'd heard great things

My children adore this restaurant and this was best shown by the fact that as soon as lock-down ended the girls demanded that we returned to the restaurant (we had plenty of takeaway pizza before the main restaurant opened)The staff are amazing, each of them is polite, friendly and clearly happy to talk to with children and not patronise them.The food is excellent and plentiful, I really cannot fault any food that has been served from this restaurant.The wine list is good and should satisfy most people.Desserts are lovely and tasty.We were lucky to have a window table at our last visit and with the outside temperature in the low 30 Celsius, it made the evening that little bit more special.I honestly cannot fault this restaurant and would recommend it to everyone.

The restaurant has just reopened after lockdown and has adapted perfectly. We had dinner for 6 people, there was plenty of space and all Covid guidelines were followed scrupulously. The food was fabulous and the portions were huge - even the teenagers couldn’t manage dessert. The team were so friendly, they were happy to adapt dishes for us, and we had a great evening. The bill was good value. We would definitely return.

We recently got a takeaway meal and were not very impressed. The food was expensive for what it was with the starters costing on average 8 or so pound. The salami pasta was basic, tomato sauce with salami slices and peppers thrown in, nothing cut up. The mozarella fritta didnt have the gooey mozarella inside i was hoping for. I understand due to coronavirus they were probably more busy than usual with lots of takeaway orders and despite the poor food the system of collection was organised and ran smoothly.

As per all my reviews they are honest, good or bad. After returning for the U.K. for a few days I made the trip here with my sister. Great lunchtime menu , normally restaurants get a bit slap dash when they do a promotion but these guys have not done that at all! Great size food and great ingredients. I went ott and ordered pizza and pasta , both delicious.Really nice cosy restaurant, would recommend this place.

We were a party of 11 family for a 30th birthday party. Eugenio, Matthew & all staff were professional, attentive and warm. The food was excellent, good quality restaurant standard. Their efforts to make the birthday special when the candles were lit made a very memorable evening, with the usual singing of happy birthday but followed by the whole restaurant singing & swaying to ‘that’s amore’, with staff banging metal utensils, SUCH fun. Yes, space is tight, but that has added to the restaurant’s character for decades, love the new extension. Thank you Buon Appetito!

Restaurant has recently been extended and refurbished and looks great although we were sitting opposite the window looking out onto the petrol station. A scenic view of Italy would have been preferable - maybe the window could be screened/decorated in some way! We booked for 6.30pm and the restaurant was packed. Food was all very good as was the service. Would definitely recommend.

We have visited twice in the last week, both times with friends, had a great lunch on Thursday, pasta and shared a salad between 2, very good, lunch offer very good value. Visited again on Saturday evening and ate from the main menu, the calamari and the Salmon were both very good.will defintely be back soon

Walked in on valentines having not booked and was greeted so warmly by the staff and given a table straight away. Wine and food excellent. Staff extremely helpful and knowledgeable. Would definitely recommend. Thank you for a lovely evening.

Great welcome when not busy at 6pm. Numerous overlaps with service in that we had ordered drinks only to be asked again and again. Meal order was incorrect and had to be sent back. Apologies all round but then bill included the more expensive food which we did not order. Quickly sorted and we paid the bill but then asked to leave as others waiting!! Not at all happy as none of the problems were of our making. Disorganised...

We have been before and had a good experience. We sat in the newly opened extension which has doubled the size of the restaurant. The menu has been changed and prices are significantly higher and some dishes from the previous menu are no longer offered. The website still shows the old menu.

........ and already booked the round table, for our next "special occasion."I say "special occasion" as Buon Appetito is quite expensive, especially if you opt for the "plates" that require a side dish, meaning some main meals could cost £25+. However, "sides" are large enough to be shared.We all opted for starters, pasta or risotto mains, desserts and drinks, (£35 pp). And as with any special meal here, you get the "extra service" to celebrate with!The refurbishment, has given the restaurant far more, much needed space, but standards remain high in all areas.

We had a lovely evening at the newly refurbished restaurant, in front of the open fire. Food wonderful as usual and good service. One of the best restaurants in Burgess Hill still.

Visited this restaurant for lunch with friends to celebrate a birthday. What a great choice, food was excellent as was the service. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meals. They are shutting for 2 weeks after our visit for refurbishment, but we will certainly be visiting again when the work is completed.

There is always a friendly atmosphere as well as very good food and wine. It has recently been tastefully extended to accommodate more diners.

My wife and I visited for lunch yesterday. The restaurant extension looks great and the quality of food, service and welcome at lunch were of the usual high standard we have come to know and love.

To begin, I rarely give 5 * rating, but thought this little restaurant was a deserving all rounder for their service, food, ambience and value for money on a weekday lunch (£3 for any pasta or pizza dish). Great refurb!!, with fireplace (nice touch), tasteful, warm and welcoming, like stepping into a little slice of Italy with 'the lingo' beautifully incorporated into the service. I had spaghetti and my friend calzone, both piping hot,with the tomato back flavours clearly homemade and delightful. Cutlery shining, glasses gleaming, staff pitched service just right, so we splashed out on a more expensive bottle of rose wine as felt the whole experience was worth it. Think about booking at lunch times as it does get very busy. So pleased I'm local will defo become a local haunt.

This was our first visit to this Neapolitan run restaurant and whilst we only had Pizza’s they were absolutely fantastic, really tasty as they should be and as authentic a Pizza that you might have in Napoli. We will be back soon.

Little gem! Absolutely the best calzone we have ever had. And the chicken with asparagus mouth watering. Service top notch. Such a lovely experience and will book ASAP again. Authentic Italian real home made food and hospitality

Always a really warm welcome here.. (I`ve eaten here several times). Superb menu choice and authentic Italian food. Nice ambience, helpful staff, great service and very very competitive price .. Always love going ( as did my old dad ! ) . Really highly recommend. You do need to book in advance as always busy. Parking sometimes possible right outside ,otherwise in road round the corner just a few minutes away.

Went to Buon Appetito for lunch unbelievable value for money £3 for any pasta dish or Pizza had the best Pizza I’ve ever tasted with a gorgeous bottle of the house wine . Found the Staff so friendly and welcoming will defiantly be going back for lunch and evening meal.

Recently my daughter and granddaughter and I decided to have lunch at buono appatio they were very friendly and the food was the best. 5 stars we all enjoyed the meal the best italian food since my mothers who was italian who passed away 10 years ago, and this food reminds me of her home cooking Grazie tanto

Came for work meeting in the most boring town ever Burgess Hill, bit found this nice Italian. I had the pizza with salami , nice and tasty . Then a tiramisu for desert . Good service .nice wine

We visited on Saturday afternoon so wasn’t too busy. Food was superb! the best Tagliatelle I have ever had! and husband says his pizza was so tasty. We’ll be coming back for an evening meal very soon. Lovely friendly waiter too

Visited with friends on a Saturday night, be warned, book as it was full. Food and service are both excellent. I had the swordfish with sundried tomatoes, best meal I've had for ages. Vegetables and salad have to be ordered separately which does make it expensive but worth it. Yes, the tables are very close together but, fear not, they are expanding into the shop next door so hopefully there will be more room in the future.

This small restaurant is an excellent Italian venue to visit. Run by an Italian family, the large menu is full of delicious food. Service was prompt. Atmosphere friendly & was full on a Monday evening. Booking is essential. The swordfish with sunbaked tomatoes was very tasty & my companions enjoyed pasta ,pizza & calzone. A good selection of gelati rounded off a 3 course meal. Because of the small size & crowd in the restaurant the noise levels are high,which may be difficult for some people. I would definitely recommend & hope to go again soon

We went here to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary.the atmosphere was lovely.. Food superb and the waiter was so jovial...he really made our evening.. We will definitely be going back here..but because it’s so popular you do need to book..

We were actually looking for a pub (and couldn’t find one anywhere!!) when we found this great little restaurant. Very small, but with a good selection of Italian classics and a full specials board. We were a party of 4 and we all chose something different and were all highly impressed. Not a cheap, typical high street menu, but well worth it. The food was delicious and the staff very welcoming. Location wise, you just wouldn’t think it was there and would most probably drive passed it, if not for this recommendation!

Welcoming staff; sounded like they were all Italian so felt very authentic; food was very tasty; came very promptly; house wine was very enjoyable ;maybe a little on the pricey side.

Pleasant restaurant. The staff however were not Italian and it is very crowded. The food was reasonable but not outstanding. Probably will not visit again as prefer the sister restaurant in Hove, which has a much better menu and atmosphere.

Our third visit to the very friendly Italian restaurant. It is cosy here but always busy, so make sure you book. Great food and really friendly staff. Their was a birthday party on the day we went, which made for a fun night.

I have been to Buon Apetito many times for lunch. It's £5 menu is incredly good value for money. It's always service with a smile and you're never rushed. I cannot recommend this place highly enough - definitely 6 stars rather than the maximum 5!

I visit Burgess Hill every few weeks and always go out at least once for a family meal this time opting for Italian. This restaurant situated near the town centre is not very large. We were greeted in a very pleasant manner coats taken and seated the menu was presented with plenty of meat and fish choices as well as pasta and pizza. The service was very efficient and unobtrusive food well presented and cooked slightly disappointed as vegetables apart from carrots were frozen desert was the usual Italian fare tasted good but portions a bit on the small side. Overall a nice evening will be going back to see if they can get that extra star.

We've been going to the Oak Barn for a couple of years and have always found it to be excellent for lunch and evening meals. Dont sit too near the open hearth unless you really feel the cold! Adorable place!

A new dining experience for Sunday lunch with an Italian twist. Our party of 4 tried the Chicken, Pork and Beef specialties on offer. All excellent choices. Large portions but still room after for a mouth watering dessert. Overall a great alternative to a leisurely Sunday roast. Great service.

Having visited this restaurant previously on another holiday, we booked again for a meal with our holiday hosts this time. Sadly, we were disappointed. One of our group was an serious vegetarian and we booked at Buon Appetito, knowing that they advertised vegetarian / vegan dishes. Sadly when making our choices, we discovered that the cheeses used were NOT Vegetarian! So our main guest had to put up with a pizza just with tomato purée and vegetables that were quite flavourless. Please understand that vegetarian cheese uses an non-animal based Renita and should be used when the dish is advertised as Vegetarian.

First time for 40 years at this restaurant. Actually this version of the restaurant has been open for 19 years. Excellent service, wonderful food, great wine list and as near to a genuine Italian atmosphere as possible.

I hadn't visited this restaurant in over 20 years, since it used to be La Torre. The service, ambience, and quality of food are excellent, they have got everything spot-on. Highly recommended.

Food is excellent. We tried to make most of £3 lunch deal and it was best Italian I had in UK. Portions we're quite big and we had good time. Definitely worth visiting again.

We enjoyed a midweek meal for 2 people for £6.00 for us both, unbelievable value and really great food and they don't skimp on portion sizes. you must book as they are very busy.

At fairly short notice, we managed to book a table for our daughter, two grand-daughters and ourselves. We were rewarded with a great evening out with excellent cuisine including two vegetarian dishes. The waiting staff were very polite and helpful. When next in Sussex, will certainly call in again.

We’ve eaten here a few times now and never really been disappointed. It’s a family run business with no frills and the staff are always friendly and helpful. Stick to the basic Italian staples ... the ‘specials’ which we’ve tried before are beyond the chef’s capabilities to be fair but the spaghetti bolognaise is good as are most of the basic pasta/Italian dishes. We will return for sure.

This restuarant was a family favourite so when my husband and I took a trip to the UK in February a visit to Bon Appetito was a must. Having not been there for over ten years I was anxious,what if it had changed or worse my perception of it being a great place was floored.With different decor and staff it is still the amazing place I remember.The food was delicious and the staff very friendly and attentive time and time again.The atmosphere was intimate and we were made to feel part of the family.This is a special place and when next in the UK we will be back.

Had lunch here today to celebrate the birthdays of my brother and his partner. This restaurant is a firm favourite with my family and never fails to deliver. Really tasty and well cooked food including squid, prawns, steak, sea bass and pizza. Excellent service and we always enjoy the happy birthday given with candles and loud cymbal clashing. Highly recommended.

My boyfriend and I went for a meal here about a month ago on a Saturday and it was so much more than expected! It doesn't look much from the outside but it is one of the best Italian meals I've had. It is small and cosy and has a lovely warm feel to it. All the waiters and waitresses were lovely and very attentive to us. Starters were fairly expensive but were tasty. The carbonara pasta was made to perfection and was a very decent sized portion. They made a special effort for any birthdays that evening and also finished of the night by banging around pots and pans and getting everyone to sway to this song (I've no idea what it was all about but it was great fun and had the whole restaurant involved and laughing). I would highly recommend this restaurant and plan to come back very soon with some good friends of ours so they can enjoy it just as much as we did.

Me and my partner came here tonight for our anniversary, the food and atmosphere was amazing as always! Didn’t even need a knife to cut the stake! Everyone is welcoming and nice as they always are when we eat here, well presented and quick to help you, restaurant is small but in a nice way, much better than any chain, would recommend to anyone and would chose to come here than most other places.

Tiny restaurant but the food and service are really good. Definitely worth trying. We had a family meal last time we were there on a Friday night and they managed to squeeze us in at the last minute which was wonderful. This place always has a good atmosphere.

Went for lunch and they had a lunch deal. The portions of pasta are quite small but it is only £3 so you can’t expect a huge bowl. Mine was good but my parter said his carbonara was average and wasn’t very flavourful. The fizzy drinks are served out of 2 litre coke bottles that you buy at the supermarket and are £2 which is such a rip off. It’s also flat. I heard a table next to us complain and we received drinks that were also flat although we didn’t say anything. They should really invest in a drinks gun to ensure better quality drinks. I ordered a Fanta and it came in a bottle and even that wasn’t very fizzy. Overall it’s okay but their drinks are poor. This is a successful business and they have 2 restaurants in the area so you’d think they would have upgraded their drinks.

We like this small family run and unpretentious Restaurant on the outskirts of Burgess Hill. The staff are always super friendly and efficient. The Romanian waitress was excess always. Unfortunately on this visit my wife’s salmon ‘special’ main course was poor... heavily over salted and really unpalatable. To the manager’s credit when it was pointed out to him he apologised and was gracious in taking the charge off the bill and offering a replacement. I suspect the basic dishes are the best and my spaghetti carbonara was excellent. Stick to the basics I would suggest but we will certainly return here again.

Love this place , atmosphere is fantastic especially at the weekend, the place is small but cozy staff are very friendly and the food is excellent.
