Brothertons Brasserie in West Oxfordshire

Deeply disappointing. Had lunch there in the summer and were delighted so booked for dinner. Slow. Maybe best to stick to pizza and pasta. Saltimbocca floating in the juice of a ratatouille isn’t a good look. Calamari Fritti accompanied by a dressed salad, pub style, with red onions similarly. Their plates are too small so everything looked just piled on. 0 out of 10 for presentation. Better consideration should be given to what goes with what and veg not of the diners’ choice should be served on a separate dish. Both of us have lived in Italy and have learnt to have minimal expectations of provincial Italian restaurants. Sadly, not even these we’re met. Lots of people appear to like the restaurant. Unfortunately we are not amongst them. Another one not to be tried again.

Really disappointing meal for my mums 70th birthday. Some members of the family had travelled an hour to get to the venue to help celebrate and the whole experience felt rushed with one main member of the team, an Italian man, rolling his eyes and getting short with us when we hadn't decided on whether we wanted deserts or not. We ordered mains as soon as arrived as no time to look at menu before 3 times the man had come and asked what we wanted, the mains turned up within 5 mins and th fish linguine was cold and my husbands spaghetti was soft, both meals looked and tasted microwaved. We had no time to enjoy relaxing after the mains were whisked away as soon as the cutlery hit the plate and then the water requested desserts straight after. We were in and out in less than an hour. As soon as desserts came , the bill was presented without us asking. All in all, awful microwaved, rushed food that was expensive for what it was and impatient service.

After reading the many positive reviews we decided to eat here whilst staying in Woodstock during our 25th wedding anniversary weekend and we were genuinely looking forward to sampling some authentic Italian cuisine,however the reality was hugely disappointing and on this occasion reading the negative reviews would of given a true reflection of our experience we were about to have. It’s fair to say that the evening started really well , we were greeted with a very warm welcome and seated at a lovely table for two in the corner all very romantic, trouble is that is were the positives end. The starters arrived and were average at best with my prawns having lumps of uncooked/raw garlic in the sauce and my wife’s sardines completely under seasoned and lacking any taste. Despite this as we were both quite hungry so finished our starters hoping it was just a glitch and the mains would make amends. How wrong were we!!!! Both the swordfish my wife ordered along with the specialty chicken in white wine and sage sauce I had were appallingly cooked with no care given to how both plates of food looked or tasted. My wife’s mains had In excess of fifteen olives thrown on top of the fish along with a tinned tomato ratatouille tepid roast potatoes that had been re-warmed and probably cooked the day before and crunchy stemmed broccoli. My chicken breast looked and tasted like it had been boiled as opposed to seared in a hot pan and was covered in a gluppy sauce that resembled wall paper paste it was obvious these relatively basic dishes were beyond the chefs capabilities. At this point we just wanted to get the bill and leave the restaurant realising we had made a huge mistake and in hindsight should have booked a table at the pub around the corner serving small plate tapas. After telling the waiter/manager how disappointed we were in the food we made a quick getaway (it’s also worth noting our bill was reduced to reflect this,so they did at least have enough good grace to acknowledge this). To sum up if you are looking to eat an authentic Italian meal I would avoid this place like the plague.

What a fabulous place. So welcoming and charming. Chose the Special ' pheasant ' main , absolutely delicious and the Brothertons Special chicken, fab. Tasty, and very good portions. Wonderful service, throughly recommend, a stone throw from our hotel . ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Excellent value

We dined here during a Stay in Woodstock recently. We were greeted warmly. Menu offered an excellent choice of dishes - the Caprese salad was delicious - my husband had the homemade soup of the day which was also very tasty. Pasta main courses were very good. EXCELLENT!!! Owner, staff, service & food simply the best in Woodstock!!! Beautiful atmosphere and people! Highly recommend the artichoke with anchovies as a starter or mussels, pizza is excellent, bolognese and so much more to choose from! Overall the restaurant looked lovely and had a great vibe. I booked on line and popped my head in on the day to check my reservation was there. I was very surprised at the reception I got not what I would expect no smile or welcome. I put this to one side and looked forward to our evening. We were greeted warmly and showed to our table. Our server was a senior man and it felt as we did not order a starter we were treated poorly the wine was just dumped on table! Not opened or even confirmed what we’d ordered. There was no upsetting of olives or bread or anything to make us feel welcome. It seemed to be an effort to serve us tbh. The food was plentiful and served very quickly. 5 of 6 dishes were good but seafood pasta poor, no sauce really. We didn’t say anything as by then we felt prickly and just wanted to enjoy the evening. We weren’t offered coffee or anything after almost like they wanted our table. Overall good value tasty food, nice ambiance spoilt by service. Shame

Having visited Blenheim palace and seen the quality of the mass catering we decided to eat in Woodstock and the smell of cooking from here enticed us in. A real friendly welcome and excellent good value food. Highly recommended

Repeat visit & nothing like last time. We sat outside & the setting was lovely on a warm summer evening. That's the positive. We had booked for 7.30 but didn't get any attention for over 20 minutes. The waitress took our order for wine but said someone else would take the food order. Again, a long wait for the wine,at least 25 minutes, which was very warm when it finally arrived. We were left to open it ourselves & the waitress left to get us some ice & Iced water. Never did get water delivered & I had to fetch ice myself from the bar! A while later, the same waitress came back & took our food order even though she had said before that she couldn't, and of course, it took ages for starters to arrive. The Bruschetta were not bruschetta. We were served slightly toasted cheap sliced white bread with chopped tomatoes & olives with an overpowering amount of dried oregano. They should be ashamed to call it Italian food We ate some as we were very hungry by this point but left half. The waitress didn't look surprised! Oh well ,we thought, at least we have the pizza to look forward to..... it arrived quite quickly & looked good. However, after a couple of slices, we had to give in. We both left over half. So much salt - just awful. No comment again from the waitress as she took away the full plates. We asked for the bill immediately. 3 hrs of my life & over £80 I won't get back. We had booked in advance for another night but quickly cancelled. The waitress was very nice & doing her best but clearly a lot of training needed here. If you want to see well trained staff with good pub food- go to the Punchbowl.

Where to start with this lovely place!! The food was absolutely 10/10! The service was amazing, especially from the owner Mev, he goes above and beyond for customers and makes the experience so lovely. I would definitely recommend the swordfish, especially if you like a little kick from your meal. Please visit this restaurant, you will not be disappointed! I will definitely be recommending to friends and family, and I will be back very soon!

Absolutely fabulous food but more importantly even better hospitality and service. Mev went above and beyond and you could see is very passionate about this place. Me and my partner will 100% be returning and would recommend to anyone that enjoys Italian and fish food.

Arrived for a 7.30pm booking, for which the staff seemed unaware. Waited half hour before we were offered a drink on a very hot evening, even a glass of water would have been appreciated! No apology for the long delay in service. The jug of water was brought with no glasses which we had to ask for 3 times. Food was of a reasonable standard and came in an acceptable time frame. No salt and pepper on the table, which wouldn't have been a problem if the vegetables had been seasoned. So we took the salt from an empty table, only to have it taken to give to another table. Every table should have appropriate condiments before service starts, any good chef should accept that not everyone likes their potatoes and broccoli unsalted and therefore tasteless. No option to add a tip to the bill on the card machine, and this day and age most people do not carry cash so unfortunately the staff lose out. All in all, a poorly run restaurant with no visible management, especially as there was sufficient staff to cope with a full restaurant, however the staff need adequate training and good leadership.

I went here with friends, all of us enjoyed the food and the service. Probably will come again next time as we didn’t have such a great experience in a long time!
