The staff excellent friendly and vey welcoming. The food is always amazing had the best coronation chicken sandwich and delicious chips. On past visits had the lasagne again very tasty although unless you have a large appetite go for the small then you may have room for the tasty desserts.

Not only was the food reasonably priced and tasted amazing but the staff were lovely , providing clean blankets so you were able to dine comfortably outside as well as tables with outdoor heaters providing a warm and friendly atmosphere whilst maintaining social distancing. Good roast! In my experience majority of pub roasts are usually pretty bad. We went here on a Sunday and had a roast, I was quite surprised as it was good! Nice veg, potatoes and Yorkshire puddings (staff are very hospitable, we asked for 2 Yorkshire’s and they delivered). Beef was nice as well, served with tasty gravy (this is usually were the pub roast looses points). Nice experience all around with a nice outdoor area.

Fully compliant with track and trace and social distancing and also benefiting from EOHO. We both had the Steak and Stout pie with a puff pastry lid, mashed potatoes, broccoli and carrots. AMAZING. Four of us ate as much as we comfortably could and the saw a £70+ bill reduced to £44 which made me smile. Thank you Boris and team, a good idea.

I can’t rate this burger and service highly enough. The burger itself is made from steak mince that the pub buy from the local farm shop, Owtons. Then it’s served in a brioche bun with cheese, salad and a tasty sauce. The chunky chips are crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. The staff were friendly and efficient, especially Ade. The pub has put measures in place to ensure visitors feel at ease given this pandemic thing that you may have heard about. This is my first time going there and won’t be my last.

The foods acceptable and dependant on the day the atmosphere is pretty good. The landlady however has great disdain for the majority of her customers. I would highly recommend booking, unless you want a death stare .. god forbid you try and drop in for something to eat. All of the staff are genuinely welcoming and very good at what they do, it’s just a shame each and every visit has been tarnished by her presence.

Being lazy owing to a knee injury decided to try here.I had smoked salmon and crayfish starter hubby had soup pf the day. Both were good size portions and very tasty. My main of chicken with ham and cheese came with sweet potatoe fries and coleslaw and i ate it all which is rare for me. Hubbys pie and mash was very good and the fact that he could change the veg was good. We even squeezed in dessert which was lovely. Couple of glasses of wine and a very reasonable bill. Will return to try the Sunday roast

Decided to try the BG as other pubs locally were really busy. Ample parking on site and a friendly welcome as we entered through the back door. Although we hadn’t booked a table, there was no issue and we were taken to a table. Food was priced well and the wait before it arrived was standard. Food was great, could tell it was fresh and home made. Enjoyed our visit and would come back again!

Okay - great pub - friendly service - food was good. I’m Vegan and the chap serving made it quite clear that because the food was made fresh they would do any combination I’d want. Perfect. Thank you again. Was there a downside? Well, we were the only ones there and both starter and main was really slow coming out. Still, we weren’t in that much of a hurry and we obviously wanted to talk in any case. Outside are two smoking booths which look fantastic as just somewhere to go and be cosy on a night - maybe there could be non-smoking hide aways too? In all, we will be back. We enjoyed the pub, food etc. Would I recommend it - thoroughly, but not if you’re time limited or in a hurry. 9/10.

We have been coming here semi regularly as it is on our way to a regularly visited location. The pub is quite busy at peak times, so worth reserving. Staff are normally friendly if not quite as organised as possible. Staff turnover also seems quite high and recently we have seen help wanted signs every time we visited, but for different roles. Our most recent visit was for Saturday lunch. Scampi and chips was hot and good. Special was a quiche enjoyed by the vegetarian. Two glasses of wine and fizzy water completed our order. Small gripe - why cant you have big bottles of fizzy water as well as small?? There is a large garden area on a nice day which is mostly hidden from the car park and filled with flowers. We call this the flowery pub because someone definitely has a green thumb.

I am absolutely gobsmacked at how we were treated in this pub. Upon entering my friend and myself sat down quietly whilst another friend went to the bar to order drinks, chatting politely to the landlord as she is a local. My friend turned to ask us what we would like & we told her we hadn't decided and to go ahead and order for herself. Next thing we know the Landlord starts shouting from across the bar "Get out of my pub! Go on, get out! If you're not having a drink then get out!" We stared at one another in disbelief, not sure whether he was speaking to us or not. He kept shouting & repeatedly telling us to "get out his f*ing pub" in front of other customers who were visibly uncomfortable. We calmly asked why to which one of my friends was told she was "too drunk" despite her being far from it. Again we asked why we were being told to leave at which point the landlady bounces in, mocks our questions in a sarcastic voice and then storms up to us and starts being incredibly aggressive, leaning in our faces toshout at us "GET OUT OUR F*CKING PUB". At this point my friend broke into floods of tears and left. Myself & my other friend sat there in disbelief not sure what to do. We tried to explain this behaviour was unacceptable and that we weren't there to cause any trouble whatsoever but that only seemed to wind the landlord and landlady up further. I have never been subjected to such unnecessarily aggressive & inhospitable behaviour. What nasty, unpleasant people. Suffice to say I won't be back.

A relative booked our table for 12 but unbeknown to me a few had cancelled. I was the first to arrive and having spoken to the relative on the phone whilst at the bar I mentioned that there were now only 7 of us and a very rude lady behind the bar proceeded to have a go at me for not letting her know even though I hadn't made the booking. She was rude and embarrassed me in front of other customers. She was then impolite when explaining I couldn't pay for my drinks by card unless I paid a minimum of £20 and when I asked if she could put the drinks on a tab she huffed at me. The others arrived and she told them that "she didn't like it very much when I told her you should have let me know there weren't 12 of you" right in earcshot of me. The other staff were generally polite, the food was mediocre (fatty lamb and over cooked veg). I won't be going back.

We ate here as a family group of 4 for Sunday lunch. Arriving at 1.00 on the first sunny weekend of the year, the restaurant was busy both inside and out. I am not a great fan of pub Sunday lunches and expectations were limited. We were immediately struck by the prompt taking of our food order and the timely arrival of our food. Three of our party had roasts (two lamb and one pork) The lamb was superb, probably the most tender I have ever eaten. Portion size was generous. Huge quantities of vegetables accompanied our order. These were cooked sparingly meaning they were still crunchy without losing colour - this is our preference. As well as the traditional roasts, other options were available. My wife had pan fried sea bass which was considered to be top class. We finished with desserts - Eton mess with fresh strawberries, cheesecake and interesting flavours of ice cream. We felt the service was highly efficient and friendly - organisation was first rate and we felt that our custom was fully appreciated. The dining experience was far better than expected and great credit goes to all the staff, both front of house and in the kitchen. Well done!

As a regular customer to this pub/restaurant I was horrified when on our last visit I asked for a fruit tea and the landlady shouted down the bar, "We're a pub, not a cafe!" In my defence, there is a very large blackboard above the bar displaying various coffee's and hot chocolate they serve. I'm assuming this isn't only breakfast time. Pots of tea are always being served, so I didn't think it unreasonable to enquirer as to whether they did fruit tea. The very last thing I expected was being shouted at across a very busy bar where everyone there could hear her response to me. How incredibly rude !

We booked a table for four for Father's Day. There was one other table there at the time. I had checked out the menu on line before hand, but when we got there we were offered a much smaller choice of menu. At first the waitress was very quick with taking and bringing us our drinks order and also when taking our food order. When the food came she banged the plates down, and she didn't smile at all the whole time she served us. Only when another table came in, that she clearly knew, did she actually seem to raise a smile-however at this point the service slowed down considerably. She was more interested in chatting to her friends then she was in serving us and the other table. When we finished our meal, our table was cleared but no one came to us with dessert menus. We sat there for 30 mins being completely ignored, while she danced attendance to her friends. The food is tasteless, vastly overpriced, and the portions are ridiculously small, considering what they are-frozen pre packed food, which appears to be cooked in the microwave or simply deep fried. The food was no better then an Iceland ready meal. Not one member of staff was smiling or appeared to be happy. I had visited this place some years before and it was so much better. I think that the new owners have let things slide considerably, in terms of the food, price and the service. I will most definitely not be going back there.

The restaurant was full of happy souls. Service was excellent, drink orders taken quickly on arrival, we then were not rushed into any course but asked if we were ready and once ready the dishes arrived quickly. Most had the soup for entree and although okay it was under seasoned, the mushroom starter was very good. We all had either the Turkey or Beef Christmas dinner and both were excellent (kids size was available). Generous portions and everything cooked perfectly (even those who weren’t Brussel Sprout lovers woofed them down). Desserts were easily above average for this style of restaurant.

Went here one evening this week with some friends. Very nice atmosphere and menu. However it did seem a bit pricey. The majority of the main courses started at £11.95, and if you consider this was for fish and chips, a bit much for a pub meal. However, having said that I had steak pie with veg which was the same price and it was very good. One person in the group had the burger, which they said was ok, but that was £11.95 as well, as was the ham, egg and chips. I had two scoops of ice cream for dessert and that was over £4. Two very small scoops, delicious but really overpriced. Sprinkles do much better for less! The staff didn't seem to know what was going on. One of them took our order then another one came to the table to do the same, and this happened all evening, doubling up all the time, which isn't really time efficient. Not sure if I would go again. Have been to better places for less cost.

As for the landlady having a face like a slapped backside, you then have the landlord greet you with the words "Yes Guv" nice touch. She is neither welcoming or friendly, something I find quite odd seeing as her chosen vocation in life is predominantly 'people' based. The previous landlady was very friendly. As someone who is majorly allergic to dogs I can no longer go in there plus they've removed all the children's play area so it now sports a big field with nothing in it, shame really as was once a lovely place to go. Myself, partner and our 2 year old son, travelled from Liverpool to Southampton to visit Peppa Pig World last week. On the way to our hotel we saw a sign saying 'Pub and Pizza' outside this place. It looked nice so we thought after check in we'll come back and try it, keep the local economy oiled in these hard times etc.We arrived at the pub at 19:10hrs, later than we expected, but our son had been sleeping and one late night (20:30) wouldn't harm him or us. When we got to the door at the back of the pub there was a notice advising 'no children under 12 after 8pm'. Good, its 7.10pm and we won't be long so in we go. My partner walked in and looked for a table, I followed carrying our son. I noticed a woman behind the bar give me and my son a look and I assumed she was going to help us find a table. The food area seemed to be split into two, dining and table meals. We continued to walk around the entrance to the pub, a few steps at most, when this same woman approached us. I asked if there was a separate menu in the ding room to the pub tables? This person replied, 'we're fully booked tonight, we have a quiz on and all the tables are reserved'. Oh dear, never mind. 'Can you recommend somewhere local for us then ?' I asked her. The woman considered it and asked a young lad passing when a lovely person sat at the pub table behind me got up and said 'here, have our table, we're going now'. How very kind of her, just what we wanted. The woman, who i now took to be the landlady, again said, 'we are fully booked, we have a quiz on, all the tables are reserved'. The penny dropped. I looked her square in her beady eye and said 'You don't want us to stay do you?'. She said she was fully booked. The lie just rolled off her tongue. She had been caught out thanks to a customer offering us her table yet continued to lie and did not have the decency to answer me straight.I wasn't aware of the reviews of this pace before I visited. If I had of been I wanted have wasted my time getting out the car.The landlady is in my opinion a disgusting, immoral human being. In my opinion she doesn't deserve respect shown to normal hospitable license trade personnel. She had no reason to refuse us a table. We wear appropriately dressed, our son wasn't crying and is a seasoned patron of many restaurants and well travelled. This person offered no excuse or help to us as tourists to the area when we where looking to eat and spend money in the place and when caught out lying continued to do so without taking a breath.

Food was very average, all run of the mill stuff with nothing very interesting or out of the ordinary. In order to open a "tab" the proprieter insisted that we must leave our bank card with him behind the bar whilst we ate. This is a "no no" as we do not let anyone have our bank card out of our sight, certainly not for a prolonged period. How can anyone who is a catering professional not be aware that this is not an acceptable demand. As it was we had to pay individually for each meal course and each round of drinks. This pub seems to change hands regularly and I cant help thinking that these people wont be there for long.

I said it was still money in his pocket but he said it was slow and why couldn't I pay with cash. Unbelievable and a great shame because its a nice pub.

Travelled from Ipswich, meeting relatives on way to funeral in Portsmouth. Met at Brigadeer Gerard for lunch. Very nice staff. Food very good, could not be faulted.

Divided to pop in for lunch, the decor inside is very nice, the service was ok, but did feel pressured to order our food quickly. The quality of the food is very good but the portions are a little small. I would eat there again

On my recent visit with my girlfriend I was left unimpressed, as we sat down the couple next too us were complaining about there £20 steak that was overcooked, anyway back to our meal my starter of smoked salmon and crayfish was very good however I opted for the lamb shoulder for my meal and well..... It was like a 5year old tried to cook it it was labelled as slow cooked but it wasn't tender at all it had more fat than meat, it was like the lamb was bought from a value range at a supermarket and then they charged me 17quid for itI won't be returning as their are plenty of restaurants/pubs in the southampton area of better quality for the same price
