Brewhouse & Kitchen - Dorchester in West Dorset

We had such a wonderful meal… and that was all down to Charlotte. She was so attentive to our every need and always with a smile on her face. The world needs more Charlotte’s in this industry! Highly recommend the “Bang bang chicken” - delicious.

Went to dinner with my mum, the food was good but the thing that made our night was our server. The card said Challotte (could be Charlotte). She was so smiley and friendly. We would have liked to tip her specially but we weren't allowed unfortunately. Whatever she decides to do, I am certain she will go a long way. And good luck to her. Really lovely young lady, made our evening.

Despite being the busiest time of the week early on Saturday evening the Assistant Manager was brilliant and accommodated the end of my guided walk superbly giving us three tasters of the current brews as part of the Brew Dorch Festival. The group stayed for a meal as well and warmed up after a very wet walk around the town.

Unfortunately, I gave brewhouse another chance, and the ladies' toilets were disgusting. Water all over the floor, toilet paper all over the floor so there was none to use

updated, looked after by the team on most recent visit, as always tbh, great beer as ever!

I love this pub, it is beautiful, but I have to leave a review for the poor service I received recently when visiting with a friend who had come down for a few days break. To be left waiting at the bar for 10 minutes, because the barman was on his phone, is unacceptable. What makes it worse is that when he eventually got off the phone to his mate, he greeted us with "What do you want?" I know it was 12pm and it was empty, but it still isn't the point. This is a great pub which has clearly been let down by its uninterested staff...maybe that was the reason why it was still empty when we left at 2.30pm. Sad...I doubt I will return.

Positives: Really grateful to be accommodated as a big group with kids when everywhere else was packed! The food was alright as pub food goes and a lot of choice. Negatives were really the service. The menu and table told us to scan a QR code, but confusingly a waiter turned up to take our order just as half of our party had started to order on the app. We explained that it might be easier in terms of splitting the bill if those of us that had started continued to order on the app. He took the others’ orders. He then returned abruptly saying “who ordered this beer on the app we don’t have it”, which was frankly a bit of an odd approach and pretty rude, making it feel like it was our fault the menu was inaccurate…. Then the food came for the members of our party that had ordered via the waiter, but the app orders didn’t arrive at the same time. I asked the waiter, who just said “well it’s because you didn’t place your order with me so it’ll come out at a different time”. He seemed pretty surly and rude again and again it felt like the poor service was my fault. Surely it’s common sense that a bunch of orders from the same table should come out within a reasonable time of each other if they’ve been ordered at basically the same time………. Also, why didn’t he tell us that when we were ordering?! Thanks again for accommodating us but the guy serving in the restaurant needs a bit of help with his customer service skills I think. I don’t usually complain about this stuff but I felt like it ruined what was otherwise a nice evening.

Service was terrible. Waited 10 minutes to be seated and it wasn’t even busy. Then when seated it took an age to be served. Food turned up with stuff missing and warm at best. Desert was even worse…. Should have gone to greggs!!!

Worst pub I’ve ever been to for service. Arrived three staff members behind the bar chatting ignoring customers. Drink accidentally spilt no one offers any help or blue roll just stood watching looking us up and down. The rest of the staff are stood outside smoking. I don’t recommend for food or a quite drink

We came in to try the 5 plate sharer but when we tried to order on the app it wasn’t available. It did let us order 3 plates though and we included the pork carnitas, but after about 10 minutes we were told they weren’t available. By then it was too late to cancel and go elsewhere, so we substituted with the calamari which was ok. However the beef was cold, the skin on fries also lukewarm and had no skin! Horrible burnt bits in there. The pretzel was definitely not freshly cooked as described in fact it had been microwaved to death. The toilets need a good clean and the whole place smells damp. Service was ok, nothing special. First and last visit.

Came here for lunch and was told food would be a 20 minute wait. We said no problem but when we went to order, suddenly kitchen’s closed as it was “too busy.” Though looking around, it isn’t really. The atmosphere is great and the staff are lovely. The kitchen must just be understaffed. 😞

Great food, very reasonable price for the quality. The Beer was also good, tried two IPA’s and they were lush. The service was outstanding!

We had our work's Christmas do at Brewhouse & Kitchen Dorchester and had a great evening. The food was really tasty. The service was excellent - considering how busy the pub/restaurant was with lots of large groups, the team did an incredible job to get the food out hot and keep on top of bar service and clearing tables too. Only small gripe, we were positioned pub side rather than restaurant and under a speaker so the loud music on top of the general noise made it difficult to hear/chat across the whole table but at this time of year you expect it to be lively! Overall a really enjoyable evening.

When we entered at lunchtime we were the only people and even later there weren't that many, so not the greatest atmosphere. The food was fine; we had various burgers and a Mac'n'Cheese. The service was OK; your indian bar man clearly didn't know where the Framboisen bottled beer was. It has a PINK label, as the belgian beer is flavoured with raspberries. Perhaps it was his first week? He took our order and brought the food. MY gripe was the bill. It had an automatic 10% charge added. This took our lunch for 5 to over £100. There was no option to remove the service charge, or alter it. For goodness sake, you are only a pub! I do give tips in a restaurant for excellent service, in cash, directly to the person serving. Could I have the £9 back? I doubt it. Won't be back. Ever.

I had a work Christmas meal here last night. On arrival, the establishment was crammed with so many people that there was hardly anywhere to stand or sit. It was far too noisy and busy to feel comfortable in, and people had to shout to one another to be heard. The starter I had was mushroom soup, which was nice enough, but was supposed to come with toasted focaccia - which it did not for myself or anyone else from what I could see. After telling the young waitress this, I received an apology, but that was it - not even a deduction from the bill. The main was venison and beef shin, which was very nice, although the portions, particularly vegetables, were severely lacking. One colleague had to wait for more than 10 minutes for their main to arrive, at which point most other people had finished eating. The dessert was blackberry and prosecco cheesecake, which was basically just a vanilla cheesecake with some berries on top. Each course took far too long to arrive, with very delayed wait-times in between. With an unexpected mandatory tip to pay, three courses that made up a sub-standard meal came to £32.94 (including the deposit), which I found shocking considering the quality and quantity of what was provided. My advice would be to go elsewhere if people are looking for good food, as well as service.

Went here for a Christmas do (15.12.23) after not going to this pub for nearly 3 years. The pub kindly cheated EVERYONE who ordered soup out of their "toasted focaccia" and then didn't give me my dessert! I had to catch a bus, so couldn't complain. Please don't go here. Original review from 2021 (and I still stand by it): Sometimes the food is good and sometimes the food is bad. Most times it's mediocre. But it's always more expensive than it should be. I was very surprised that the olives and bread starter was just a cheap and chewy baguette that could be purchased from Asda. The beers are also very expensive. However, they usually have some fantastic guest beers from Germany and Belgium on draught. But they will be nearly £6 per pint.

Work Xmas meal - Food was good. Desserts too sweet for many. Starter was very good. Main was delicious (Festive Burger). The only downfall was the space. We were 10 people and were literally crammed into a tiny space right at the back of the pub. It was too loud (they did turn the speakers down after a while) but the space we had was unacceptable. The table was for 6 people, not 10! If someone wanted to get up, everyone had to get up as there was just no space at all to move or breathe. Would therefore not book this again for a Work Christmas meal.

Saturday lunchtime in a large room. Our party, 10 of us, were for most of the time the only diners. Service was courteous and prompt. Drinks were fine and beer of a good std. The steaks were of a good standard and cooked well as were the fries. Everything else was pretty poor. The Buddha bowls were mushy, the avocado rubbery and very much past its best as was the hummus. The Mac and cheese was a grey congealed mass which for one of our party was completely inedible. The classic case of ‘can cook a steak ok’ but can’t do anything else well. We chose not to complain but certainly won’t be going there ever again.

Menu description sounds amazing! Unfortunately, food was terrible. We visited at around 12 lunch time, but the food looked and tasted like they air fried it :/ would not recommend! Great beers tho!

Great atmosphere, bar staff friendly and very helpful. We visited for Sunday lunch - it arrived in good time but was luke warm at best. Don't think anything was seasoned when cooked, bland. Advertised as pork loin and crackling - no crackling in sight. I would visit again for a drink but would certainly not for food - awful.

Food is average. Beer is decent. Quiz host is shambolic. Bring back the oldd quiz host.

We came here for Sunday roast and the atmosphere was lovely. Reserved a table, no problem. Ordered our food and drinks from the qr code, great. Food and drinks arrived. Food....only just warm enough and the gravy was very bland. A bit disappointing all round. Went to order dessert and told it was a 40min wait so left. It's such a shame because the staff and atmosphere was great..

Slow, bored service, taps with no product, unprofessional dress for bar staff

The pub was lovely, staff were kind and helpful. I ordered an IPA which I didn’t like as the “close to” lager they had had all gone. I didn’t enjoy it and they freely changed for another at no cost to myself. We have 5 tapas plates and fries. On the whole the food was tasty although I think the food could have been hotter. The prawns there were only 4, that I think is ridiculous. The brisket wasn’t very good and quite basic. The focaccia bread wasn’t toasted and had large amounts of pesto smeared over it with couple of cherry tomatoes sliced in half and placed on the top, not very nice at all. The nacho was great and the halloumi fries good.

Great service and their work space deal (lunch and soft drinks) is good value.

Really disappointing. Booked a table on a Saturday night for a friends birthday meal, the table was booked for 14 people luckily only 12 attended at 7:30pm unfortunately due to the weather conditions a few were a little late. We managed to order our food at roughly 8pm ish we were told there would be a 25 minute wait which I thought was good considering we didn’t pre order. Mains were nice everyone felt quite content a few went for small dishes so they could have a pudding. Plates were cleared just after 9. The waitress came back to report that the chef had shut the kitchen so would not do puddings. I could not fault the waitress one bit bless her she tried her best she would definitely get 5 stars! But we were unaware the kitchen closed at 9 and still have not been able to find this written anywhere. Unfortunately we were devastated, the plan had been to have pudding then continue with a few more drinks but at this point we felt almost unwanted. Considering the chef knew we were still eating and we were a large party why did they close the kitchen before finishing our table very upset overall really.

Took my Dad here for his 79th birthday. The staff were amazing, friendly & knowledgeable in their drinks & menu. My Dad was offered a free flight of drinks which was a lovely birthday gesture! Trinity was especially lovely & friendly, she even wished my dad happy birthday when we paid the bill & left. A lovely evening with amazing food & drinks!

Did the brewery experience day, really enjoyed it, Ian the Brewer looked after us very well and we tried all the beers throughout the day, most of which were very good

Staff very friendly, food was very nice and we didn’t have to wait long for it.

Not as good a meal for my large family party as a year ago. V. nice waitress & waiter - starters arrived promptly, but we waited a long time for the main course. Unfortunately not all of our varied choices were up to scratch. My steak pie's pastry was very hard (overcooked), whilst my mash was cool and kale cold. Another in our party with the same dish had to send it back as the pie's centre was cold. Others having fish and chips said fish was nicely cooked, but much smaller than a year ago and that the chip were a little soggy. In contrast all puddings were excellent. Disappointed and unsatisfied..

We came out this evening for a meal while my partners dad was down visiting. Having enjoyed times in the past here, we thought it would be a nice place to go. In fact it was pretty awful. We ordered 3 steaks, 1 rare and 2 medium rare. Upon service we received 1 blue 1 rare and 1 medium- when we queried this we were asked if it was ok to fry the steak some more or cook a new from fresh. We chose to just put the same steak back in the pan … yet it came out one end well done and the other still blue! Which was more than disappointing. Consequently one ate alone. Overall we had a very unsatisfactory visit. The steaks we had consisted mostly of fat. And they were predominantly served with chips and 3 small cuts of lettuce. The staff paid very little attention to us during the time there. Plus when it came paying and we gently raising an issue… we were greeted by incompetent bar staff who didn’t acknowledge what the actual issues were. We certainly won’t be re visiting and our only recommendation would be to stay well away!

This was a lovely venue, and the service was great. Most of the table enjoyed their food. I think we were unlucky as the fried items with both the starters and mains we all overcooked/burnt. Would go back again though, just maybe order something not fried.

Had a week's holiday in Dorchester and visited 3 times for evening meals. Good menus selection, not just the same old pub menu. Enjoyed the beers brewed on site. Would recommend.

Great selection of beers and ciders, including a superb range of low to zero alcohol options. Sadly the food was extremely disappointing. The burgers were cold in the middle, very small chips and the battered onion rings were so undercooked they were soggy in the middle. We'd be back for a drink, but not food.

Went for lunch with my wife. Lovely food- we both had burger and fries followed by sticky toffee pudding & Belgian chocolate cookie bake-, great service and good value for money. Had flights of beer that are brewed on site...😋😋

Food OK - nothing special and rather small portions. Table service was again OK but nothing special. Had to pay at the bar as the waiter was absent for some time.

Recommended by friends as a good place to meet a friend half way between Portsmouth and Exeter. Venue did not disappoint. Accessible (good parking out the back, ground floor) friendly. Food was able to be ordered at the table, bar or service taken by waiter. Food arrived nicely presented and hot. Korean chicken wings were excellent. Interesting to have a working brewery inside the venue. VERY nice and helpful service personnel. Great atmosphere, even when the rugby began. Would recommend this venue to others and I would certainly return.

Great brewpub selling their own beers brewed in their micro brewery. Selection of beers is great, food is okay, atmosphere is nice. Getting their beers in a small 5l keg for takeaway is also great

Tad on the expensive side but very popular. Occasional Live music at weekends and a separate dinning room. Cozy seating areas and larger tables for groups with a good atmosphere. Not many known beers but their large selection of own brew is quite palatable. Its brewed on site as well as bought in.

Slow service, very average food, and expensive. Shame, as the Brewhouse historically has been great, but it wasn’t busy, so didn’t understand why we had to wait an hour for food.

The staff here were friendly, efficient & did everything to please, they were a joy! Unfortunately our whole table was in the dark as they had electrical problems so no lights. Food was okay but nothing special & we had quite a variety.

Party of 10 people... Soggy pastry, (microwaved) staff dinners looked better then what they served to customers, kale.. raw! Chicken dry, Had to sit on the dark, lights broken, had supplied candles and an emergency light, hardly saw and staff.. was disgusting.. don't waste your money. Definitely won't eat there again!!

We had lunch at The Brewhouse & Kitchen, the menu is varied and good value, we had the fish goujons and chips, very tasty and generous portions. The beer selection is great too. My husband was given a sample beer from the brewer himself. The staff were friendly and welcoming. Thoroughly enjoyed our time here. Highly recommend

Came for lunch just last week. The food was absolutely appalling. Our bar tender/waiter was excellent - friendly, helpful, great manner. Food came quickly. Ordered our food without issue, but when it came, it was dried out, overcooked, chewy, inedible ... and the salad that was ordered had three pieces of chicken, plus the croutons were so tough, they were abandoned as inedible. Tooth breakers. An awful meal.

Very quiet the night we visited. The food was ok except for my husband's vegetables which were uncooked. The chicken burgers and fries were fabulous. Desserts were nice too. I really enjoyed the craft beer.

Lovely family meal, most of us had roast dinners, both the meat and vegetarian versions which were lovely and a couple of orders of chicken. We all really enjoyed the food and the staff and service were excellent. I would recommend this for any occasion.

Drab food and slow service. Shame really. 3 choices of food weren't available (Calamari, Cauliflower wings, and Halloumi fries) the 4th choice of garlic bread was tough and cold. The staff were indifferent to our comments and I deduced that lack of training is the likely reason. The management have contacted me to elaborate but I have decided that they should make the effort to eat there themselves and sort out their own shortcomings. I suspect that this is why the place is going downhill fast. (Certainly far faster than their service for our table of 4.) With so many superior venues on hand I can't recommend this venue at the moment.

We had a brewery experience with Ian, he was very skilled and knowledgeable. We asked many questions and he answered all of them. The food was fantastic and the atmosphere made it a perfect place to hang out for the day. To be fair Ian made the whole day for us, without him I don't think it would have been the same.

Can't fault the drinks, and the service is always very good. The £29 sharing platter however, is a mistake I won't make again! Really meagre amount of food for the money.

Disappointing visit. We ordered drinks while looking at the menu. It was only when we were ready to order that our waitress told us they had stopped serving roasts and were almost out of both chicken and Mac and Cheese. They have a whole section of beer can chicken on their menu so that was surprising. After hearing the disappointing news, we paid for the drinks and left. The restaurant was ok, a bit run down. Similar to a Wetherspoons with the usual type of menu and drinks offers.

Great selection of beers but pricey when not Hoppy Hour. Ladies toilets are however disgusting, consistently, every time we visit. Please sort them out, they need to be much more regularly cleaned.

We had a staff lunch so decided to come here and try the new menu. The food was nice, however wasn't particularly hot. I was disappointed that i asked to add some salad into a sandwich and was told no! It was however good that they could provide my colleague with a gluten free menu when we asked. Also we all agreed the 10% service changed added on was a little sneaky, this is not very well advertised and tipping should be optional.

Our waitress ( Maia) was such a lovely person and was amazing to chat with ! She made mine and my friends drinks and they were amazing.

The servers were very friendly and welcoming which was great. Unfortunately, the food and drink was not at all great. The beer (I had the golden ale) was quite bitter with very little other taste - not at all pleasant! The steak was incredibly tough and chewy and the fish was overcooked and tasteless.

Myself and my son s had a day with Ian the brewer . He was an excellent host and ambassador for Brewhouse Kitchen . Great info Great beers Great food . 12 out of 10 thank you Ian 🍺

Food was okay but service was not great, seemed to be more interested in the Tennis then the customers and it wasn't overly busy... and to charge a 10% service charge without asking is not ideal

Had a ‘Brewery Day Experience’ - it’s brilliant! Best one I’ve ever been on, and I’ve done a few at various breweries. Ian, the brewer, was great - very interesting and such a lovely chap. The day flew by, helped by sampling the various brews! Highly recommend. Cheers, Ian!

We arrived at the bar, after a 3 hour car journey, knowing there’s time to order some food. I was infuriated when the bar staff turned me and my partner away at 8:54 saying the kitchen closes at 9pm. I hate being treated like that! If you have hours which the kitchen opens and closes, stick to those times for the sake of your customers. It was obvious the staff couldn’t be bothered and did not value our custom. I also explained that my partner is in a wheelchair and finding somewhere else suitable to eat is difficult for us but they couldn’t be less understanding or care less. Avoid.

This is, as expected a brew house with a. Kitchen. It’s large, bright and clean with a Good range of fine beers, visibly brewed on premises and a large range of alternatives for non-beery peeps. I didn’t try the food,so can’t comment on that. Really nice to see the brewing machinery and to know where and how their product is made…and very pleasant it was too. They do educational tours and decor fits their craft with tools and grain decorating the bar sympathetically. Would definitely go back to check more of their range of beers and the food.

Sunday roast beef...shoe leather more like. If we weren't so tired and hungry from our long journey we'd have walked out, complained or something. Bloody awful food never again. Really don't recommend

I just wanted to thank everyone at the Dorchester Brewhouse & Kitchen for looking after us so well yesterday. We will definitely be back!

Lovely beer. But the food and service was awful. It took over 30 mins for all the pre ordered main meals to be served for a group of 15. The first to be served had finished eating long before half of us had our meals. These were all pre ordered! The cabbage with my pie and mash was not cooked at all and sent back and when it returned was completely inedible.

Had a lovely Sunday lunch here on father's day. Plenty of room for a wheelchair and easy to park outside. Complimentary beer for my father which he appreciated.

Nice place, very kind people. I took a burger and even if it was very tasty, it was completely Different Size from the picture, it was very small and for the price it is too much. I advise to change pictures or price!

Food was nice. Would have got a better review but we booked as a lunch party and ran out of bread for sandwiches and no lime cordial on the bar.

Food was awful. Ordered macaroni cheese for myself and our little one, well it looked and tasted like it had come out of a tin. They didn't have enough macaroni chees (this was at Monday 5pm, and not busy in the slightest) for myself, thank goodness really, ordered the buttermilk chicken burger instead and well that was dry and gross. Chewed more calories off than gained. My husband had a cheese burger which was average. Their menu and what was on the system didn't match. So really the only good thing out of the meal was a Pepsi Max. Wouldn't recommend at all.

On behalf of all of us (our party of 31) we would like to say a massive thank you for making our day so special. The food, service and atmosphere was excellent, we have nothing but praise. From beginning to end, this really couldn't have gone any better. Excellent team work so thank you to every member of the team!

What a nice experience for my mother's birthday. Excellent beer brewed on the premises. Really enjoyable veggie burger, and superb service. Special shout out for Jamie and Frejya, who were both absolutely delightful. We will be back!

Called in for a light lunch with a friend after a long walk. The member of staff was very welcoming and friendly with helpful suggestions on the vegetarian options, which are limited. Nothing appealed to me so I went just for some skin on fries....

Nice pub/restaurant with micro brewery, great bar staff and waitress, food good, nice atmosphere, will visit again. I believe in leaving honest review, the Rib-Eye steak could of been better, but was cooked fine.
