Brewers Fayre - Potters Arms in Harlow

Great food and brilliant service by our lovely waitress Kayleigh. Very professional, attentive and charming. Will definitely be coming again!

Long story short, do not frequent this place. Closed more than open. We stayed in the adjacent Premier Inn, this the local eatery/pub for said hotel. During the day a very bad lack of staff. Went into town and then back to the hotel for a rest. Woke up at 9:30pm, thought we would go for last orders, get there and are told it is closed 10pm on a Saturday night! Next day went for breakfast (pre-paid). Wish we had not, no eat as much as you want buffet, food T order by one very stressed waitress working on her own. Heard the rumours (turning up to find your table cancelled) on Boxing Day. Bar restaurant closing early. No more P/I or Potters for us!😡🤬

We went to breakfast here as we were staying at the Premier inn next door. As far as Premier Inn breakfasts go this was probably our most pleasurable. The breakfast room was bright and clean. Joanne our waitress was very welcoming, attentive and could not do enough for us. This location cooks your breakfast to order (not buffet style) and we were asked for our order very swiftly. The cooked breakfast was absolutely fine although like all premier inns the fried eggs are always a little small and insipid. The tea making area provided teapots and a jug for the milk which is is such a good idea and wish it was taken up at more breakfast locations.

Laura was very helpful and offered to help with anything i may need and made sure to check for any allergies , the food also came quick and tasted great :)

Just terrible service, you have a few lovely staff mostly the two older ladies are very welcoming. The younger ladies looked like they were not happy to even be working there. The service is very poor no one ever asks you if you need anything, the food is cold and terrible.The staff are very rude to the customers when everyone is there spending money. My honest opinion The staff need training on professional customer service and hospitality management or the Cookhouse pub will lose alot of customers and that means no jobs for them.

Went with my wife toddler and mum for dinner waited over a hour for dinner to be served Wasn't asked if needed more drinks Different waitresses forgetting what was ordered Toddlers food came out a hour after sitting down at table sausage chips and sausages were red and raw asked for replacement chicken nuggets and chips they gave burnt slice of chicken and chips Service was disgusting waitresses not interested more interested in chatting giving looks making you feel uncomfortable Avoid this place if your with a family embarrassing when say you want take them for a treat and get let down

Entered at mid-day, booked in our car and waited. Eventually, the lady lounging on the bar said "We are NOT serving food today, only the bar". I explained that I had received the email acknowledgement of our lunch booking and that there was No mention on their website of No food. "Sorry" was the response. So we had the usual excellent lunch and service at The Toby Carvery.

It was the worst food we have eaten (well we didn’t eat much of it) it was cold and very over cooked in fact it was burnt and when we told the waitress she just said that’s the way the chef always cooks it and just walked away. So bloody rude. We will never go there again or recommend the place to anyone.

Not a great experience, food was cold, staff seem not professional ( I know it is hard work ) I had a discount that I could use, before I could, bill tilled up and staff member refused to re I put my bill to enable the discount. Will not be going there again anytime soon.

Absolutely awful and very disappointing for grandchildren on Christmas Eve. Food stale, nothing fresh, no staff and what staff there was had a little attitude after advising they had no manager, GM, food or staff.

I booked a table in September for me and my family to have a boxing day meal. After checking on Christmas day (having heard of several incidents of last minute cancellations previously) that everything would go ahead as planned, I was given just one hour in advance notice that my booking had been cancelled without any proper explanation, leaving me and my family without anywhere to go for our meal. I will not be booking here again.

Food took ages BUT their server Maddie was AMAZING. They updated us on wait times, kept apologising about the wait to us and all other tables around. There was no manager in sight and to be fair, there was no need for them to come out. Maddie deserves so much recognition after this busy period is over and hope they accept the job offer that ive given them 😉 they are the future of customer service and any company would be so lucky to have an employee like Maddie <3

Had a lovely time with all the family. Unlimited breakfast and kids eat free, our waitress jade, was amazing, completely on her own on a Saturday morning and wasn't left waiting once, very kind and friendly really enjoyed out morning out.

I went here for dinner with a large group of around 20 people. Our food took several hours to arrive, and my burger was burnt. The waitress however was lovely, and apologetic about the long wait. I understand that we were a large group, but was very disappointed with the evening.

Booked table for 4 at 7.30pm Sunday, Waited short while to be seated , while looking at the menu, a member of staff shouted out to say that if anyone wanted coffee they need to order now as they are turning off coffee machine, when she came over I said I would probably want coffee after the meal we hadn't yet ordered, At this point was told " I had to have now if I wanted coffee" as they are turning machine off . Waitress came to take order, she puffed and rolled her eyes the whole time, long wait for food that at best was mediocre, Presentation awful the dishes had gravy burnt on all around the sides..Soon as we finished they asked could they lay table for next day, YUK we said no but other tables said yes . SO WHEN YOUR EATING THERE ASK FOR FRESH CUTLERY as you don't know who's been touching it. AND THIS IS IN A COVID PANDEMIC . will never go back

Booked a table in advance for 8 people 4 adults and 4 children ( 1 for a highchair).On arrival we were left stood at the door for around 6-7 mins while a member of staff ( manager) was dealing with something else on her screen, no mention at any point that we would have to wait and queue was building behind us.Got seated on our table and had to ask for the highchair which was on our reservation, was also reminded by a one of our party that the greeter should have taken our car reg as we were parked in the hotel car park.It seemed to take forever for the waitress to come to us to take drinks orders, then another era to take food orders (a major lack of different foods were removed from the menu or had run out!) the food came out and we were approached once to see how food was, we had to beckon over a waitress to take drinks order which again took forever! The children wanted dessert so again waited forever. The waitress pretty much threw the dessert on the table and walked away! Tables were not cleared of used starter plates and empty bottles and glasses so we were eating amongst dirty plates and glasses. we were not satisfied with the service at all, we had a table booked for 5pm and after the time it took to get orders in and get served we got out of there at 7.45pm.Children at this point were getting bored and starting to fidget alot! We hasn't imagined we would have been seated fpr 2hrs 45min.The manager didn't seem too interested in apologies and just stayed out of everyone's way, on a busy Tuesday eve there were just 2 waitresses. I would say that a few more members of staff would be a great help but I think the management here could do with a shake up too.We spent £114 and couldn't wait to get out of there.

I visited this restaurant with family for dinner to celebrate a birthday, and I have to say I am extremely impressed! The service was great, friendly and very knowledgeable staff. We were instantly made to feel welcome, and nothing seemed like to much trouble! We all really enjoyed our food and will definitely be returning for the next family celebration!!

Well what can I say… waited to be seated although empty, ordered drinks once seated waited 15 minutes and then had to ask again.. staff very poorly trained.. infact staff don’t care.. bar staff asked am I paying cash as he would like a tip!!! I gave him a £10 tip and then half an hour later he said he spilt it with the table staff as I didn’t tip them!!! I left Harlow 18 years ago and lived in church Langley.. would I ever visit the potters arms again NO!!! Summed up rude staff avoid the scampi leave a tip cash to everyone!!!!

I have been to the Potters many times over the years. Service has always been poor. I popped in tonight, it was quiet, I had a quick drink then went back to the bar for a second. I waited an eternity. Eventually a lady emerged, very surly, and I was quite irritated as I had waited 7/8 minutes. She was argumentative and implied I lied saying she had watched the cctv. Awful response. Whatever the time, it was ages. She even had the audacity to suggest that I had been rude. I will never ever ever go to that substandard crap hole ever again - I know of many others who swerve it due to poor service

Came into the potters arms today today with my partner. Was made to wait 10 minutes at the door just to be seated (even the chef came out and told the staff that we were waiting but still had to wait further). Was sat next to another couple even though the restaurant was practically empty so that was an uncomfortable factor. So all that waiting then get sat right next to people staring at you in silence and toilet fumes caressing your coleslaw. Apparently the ONLY tables they could put us at was the ones right next to the toilets… Food was fine, a lot of dishes missing off the menu. When it came to paying we had to wait to even get the staffs attention so we just went over to their till station which they seemed fixed at. (Again, empty restaurant so I don’t know what they were doing) really won’t be looking to go back, so disappointing.

Certainly lost its way.Very poor food, mainly untrained staff trying to cope in a mainly empty seating area .Yes I did bring my dried out food to the attention of the duty manger..he threw another bit on my plate.As you will see by the photos ..Friday night out..try somewhere else …I do .

We stayed nearby for 10 days and had the pleasure of eating breakfast daily at this location. The food was always freshly cooked and delicious. When combined with the excellent and friendly service from the always smiling Joanne you cannot go wrong. Great value for money.

Stayed next door in premier inn, arrived and paid for the meal deal £23.99 each, went into restraint at 6.10pm was quickly seated, order taken for drinks and food, drinks arrived smarting but as for food…… well there are no words!! Must have been over half an hour wait, my cottage pie was burnt, hubby’s chicken was ok, waited over half an hour for plates to be taken but only because hubby had to go and find waitress!!! Ordered dessert to which I was told they didn’t have! Also asked for bill at same time, bill was done first, dessert arrived but we still had to ask for main meal plates to be taken away. I don’t usually leave reviews but this is appalling service!!!!

Went for a drink about 6pm with intention of eating but on ordering food about 6.45 was told kitchen was closed in quite a rude officious mannerI had asked about food when ordering our first drink and no one told me the kitchen was closing early So staff should have been informed by the duty manager so they could inform customers as now we won’t be going back for a while which is a shame as we live locally and visit quite often Also think as it’s a pub attached to a premier inn I would hope no residents were expecting to eat dinner that evening as they too would be disappointed !

I wrote a review over a year ago about the good food and service we received.We were at the cookhouse again on Friday to meet up with family for a drink, what a change from our last visit.We sat outside while the weather allowed, the grass was very long, tables hadn't been cleared of glasses dispite there only being us and another table occupied.It started to get cold so we ventured inside where all tables in the bar area were occupied.We asked the waitress if we could sit at a table in the resturant, which she said we couldn't unless we were eating as she was setting up for breakfast the next morning.At this time it was 8pm and there were only 2 tables occupied in the resturant.We also asked the Manager who said we had to try and find a tqble in the bar. I cannot see how they can afford to turn away custom when there was so few customers in the resturant.On going into the bar area again we noticed an empty table which had a glass of clear liquid on it.We waited several minutes to see if anyone came back to the table which they didn't so sat here. After about an hour, the bar person came to collect empties and when we passed the glass with clear liquid to him saying it was on the table when we arrived, he said someone must have left it there to save the table and seemed quite grumpy that we had sat at the table, I can only assume it was saved for his friends maybe ? just a quick note that my son wanted brewdog but was advised none was available on tap and he could have a can which was just over half a pint and was over £4! no explaination why the bewdog on tap was not available.The main bar person was very friendly but the tee shirt he was wearing was filthy so not a good image for the Cookhouse. The place looks shabby and unloved, such a shame as a completely different experience to the one previously. My Sister lives nearby and has also eaten at the Cookhouse recently and said the food was mediocre and nowhere near as good as previous visits last year.Hopefully this is an isolated incident although maybe not as the resturant was very quiet for a Friday bank holiday weekend.

Came down for the past few weeks for work, stayed in the hotel next door, and can honestly say we were looked after by the staff at the Potter Arms. Every night was a good laugh with the staff and locals. Poor service. No ice for drinks. Both menu options we chose were unavailable. What we did choose was bad - one was tasteless and other was over cooked, we both left half our meals. Disappointing meal out.

The staff on today 18th July , Ashley & Laura were exceptional. They were both very busy & Ashley sorted out a error in my booking with speed & professionalism. The food arrived quickly & hot. Nothing was too much trouble. We were a party of 5 adults & 4 children plus there were a couple of other large groups. Ashley & Laura manged it all with smiles. Me and my colleagues have been staying at the premier inn next door to this pub, every morning we have had breakfast here. Joanne was especially helpful every morning and couldn’t do enough for us. The food was great too.

Just back from a lovely meal, service was quick, food was great and very friendly, efficient staff. They made sure we had everything we needed and nothing was too much trouble.Had Sunday roast, which was delicious and the Fathers Day special burger. Lots to choose from on the menu, we were spoilt for choice. Will definitely be going back.

The menu has improved massively from last year. More Vegetarian and Vegan options. Food this time was fast, hot, tasty and of generous portions. I had the Vegan burger and chips and my Mum had the macaroni cheese. We were asked if we want more drinks by the waitress Laura a few times and asked if everything was ok. We were offered pudding but were too full. Restaurant and pub was clean and hygienic and all restrictions and government advice was followed. After our terrible visit last year, we're glad we gave it another go. Laura, although busy, was happy to stop and chat about the restaurant and the menu change. Highly recommended if you're in the area.

The food came out hot and quick and taste really good friendly waitress Laura who would go the extra mile for costumers always smiling and polite , bar staff bubbly and full of character toilets were clean and lots of food choices always available they never run out of anything ! Always a lovely time here will keep coming back!
