Brew Babu in East Northamptonshire

Visited on a busy Sunday and had an excellent bowl of Sweet Potato and Butternut Squash soup, as well as an excellent latte. There is always a good atmosphere and it is a relaxing place to visit.

Quick visit for brunch. Coffee, chai latte, bacon bagel and poached eggs on muffins. Quick friendly, polite service. Tasty, well presented plates.

We visited for the festive afternoon tea, and it was fabulous! Totally enjoyed it all, especially the pork pies! We will definitely be returning

I visit Brew Babu whenever I am visiting my Grandchildren whom attend Oundle School. I do not normally write reviews but having a read a negative review , I thought it worth calibrating feedback with my experience. It honestly in my opinion has not changed in terms of atmosphere, quality of food and service since the current owner took over (i think 6/7years ago). I cant remember her name but She is very smiley, glamourous with big hair! On my visits I switch between the Specials Board and afternoon tea. On Saturday I had the Vietnamese Chicken off the Special Board , it was cooked beautifully and not too spicy, I loved it. Every one loved what they ordered and the kids really do love her bubble teas. It is the summer since I had the afternoon tea but I honestly think it has to be one of the best in the country, certainly better value than Bettys in Harrogate and better quality and quantity than the posh garden centre near Wellingborough. Keep the faith, Brew Babu is a truly great independent coffee shop/tea room. Rita

Things at brewbabu are not what they once were. the scones and cake were stale and the coffee tasted awful with poorly foamed milk. After a long wait for the food to arrive it was flavourless and looked rushed. The cleanliness left a lot to be desired and even the cutlery was dirty! Management clearly don’t care anymore. I could even hear staff loudly complaining that the owner was late again! I won’t be back.

Our visit to Brew Babu was exceptional from start to finish. The café exudes a charming and inviting atmosphere, making it a lovely spot for lunch with my family on a cold December day. I tried the croque monsieur, which was simply divine, so filling and good portion size. The kids loved the mango bubble tea and chocolate milkshake, and the variety of homemade cakes was impressive - each more tempting than the last! The staff were friendly, especially the owner and added to the overall positive experience with their excellent service. It's rare to find a place that combines great food, lovely ambience, and outstanding service so well. Will return and can’t recommend enough!

Unfortunately things have gone downhill here. The level of organization and cleanliness is scary. We had raw scones, stale old pastry and less than delicious food options. I wanted to love Brew Babu but it needs a hard reset before I’d eat there again.

I ordered a crayfish open sandwich and a cold americano. After a long delay my coffee arrived, very watery and tasteless . Finally after an hour got my lunch, crayfish open sandwich. Soggy bread, little salad and a few crisps, hardly worth £9.95. Disgusting single toilet. Never again!

Superb bacon sandwich. The vanilla milkshakes used to also be fantastic but were very poor on this occasion. I queried if ice cream was no longer added to the mixture but was advised mine had received 4 scoops! Can't understand therefore why it wasn't particularly cold and quite watery. Bring back the old milkshakes please.

We were visiting Oundle for the first time and wanted tea and cake. My wife was craving a flapjack or granola cake and this place had both. In fairness the cakes were excellent (I had an almond slice). But the service was lamentable. Even when I was ordering it was clear that the girl serving me couldn’t care less. The tea took ages and they forgot the cake, and it was hardly a complex order and there was no queue. And because they use trendy teapots it was impossible to get anything other than very weak tea, too weak even for me and I am notorious for liking weak tea. I suspect that is why they try to flog you (as an upgrade) ‘superstrength tea’ when you order. The chap serving alongside the girl was good and did his best to make amends. But how hard is it to pretend that your. Us timers are important. We try to support independents but experiences like this is why I think about local tea shops and then choose Costa or Nero. Stop trying to be trendy and serve good tea and cake with a smile.

On a Thursday morning, this cafe was pleasantly bustling, but the staff were friendly and attentive nonetheless. We sampled a selection of breakfast and lunch foods and it was all beautifully presented and made with lovely fresh ingredients. I was particularly impressed with the wide selection of teas. Couldn’t think of a nicer place to spend the morning grazing and people-watching!

This was our first visit here. The coffee shop has an interesting and varied selection of dishes and drinks on the menu. Our lunch was beautifully presented and delicious. Well done to the chef. 👍 He must have been working flat out as the cafe was busy. The staff were welcoming and helpful. However, they could benefit from an extra member of staff as empty dishes weren't cleared quick enough and left on the tables making the place look cluttered and a bit chaotic by the time we left. Service was slow for our drinks and it became a bit stressful for us as we were left waiting too long. For this reason I couldn't give it a 5. Management needs to take staffing levels into account on busy days and employ more staff to make the dining experience for customers more enjoyable and relaxing.

Friday lunch very fresh and extremely tasty well prepared food. Whitebait with Deep Fried Courgettes and to follow Risotto with Prawns and Asparagus very yummy.

After a visit to my hairdresser I popped in here for a snack lunch. Friends had recommended. A large table inside the door was about to be vacated by two customers so I sat down as there didn’t appear to be any other tables available.I chose an Americano and a Croissant as there were no Cheese Scones or Sausage Rolls. The coffee was ok. I felt uncomfortable as a group of adults with a baby came into the Cafe and started to remove chairs from my table (implying I was taking up a large table for just one person!). I enquired where the ladies toilet was and was directed to the rear of the Cafe. I hadn’t realised there were more tables at the back. The toilet left a lot to be desired! A notice advising the door lock was “fragile” I am at a loss to know how this can be classes as “Boutique”. Shabby Chic? No shabby!

This is a very different eatery….and lovely!……there are a number of rooms all decorated very differently….with helpful friendly staff. We’ve had a number of meals here over the past 18 months. They’ve all been very delightful, delicious, good portion sizes and reasonably priced. The menu shows a creative culinary team at work. The dishes have unusual combinations of ingredients, nicely cooked and presented and it always works…very yummy! They are also well known for their excellent collection of teas and coffees.

I have been a regular local customer for over three years and not once has ever let me down. Love their lunches, their teas and coffees... service is friendly and lovely. And the decor is quirky. Every time I leave with a happy smile!

We have called here twice recently for a coffee and toast or scones. Lovely flat whites and the cheese scones are warm, cheesy and utterly delicious. My only comment, and I hope it will be viewed constructively, is that on both visits our purchases have arrived separately and very spaced out. I really prefer to have my coffee and scone served together. I had long finished my scone before the coffee arrived. Our friends teas came ages after that. The same thing happened on our previous visit. On that occasion our coffees came and were drunk about 15 minutes before the toast arrived. That said we will still be going back because the drinks and the food are so good.

We've been eating here (via delivery) almost on a daily basis. The food is fantastic and the tea service is grand! We would highly recommend to anyone in the area!

This is THE place to go in Oundle if you want fresh healthy homemade food whether for breakfast, lunch or tea. The daily specials are always varied and their selection of cakes (gluten free also!) are delicious. They also have a very wide selection of loose leaf teas, fresh ground coffees and AMAZING milkshakes on offer all served up by lovely friendly staff.

My friend & I meet up fairly regularly at this fab little cafe & always spend a good few hours there enjoying the delicious menu. We usually have cheese scones served warm with cheddar cheese & chutney. Always a winner! The atmosphere is welcoming, relaxed & friendly. The staff are helpful & accommodating, even though we sit for hours gossiping over our cappuccinos! This is a great little cafe & we will no doubt be back again soon.

Me and my partner love it here. We always pop in after a visit to barnwell. Food is always good with daily specials, recently went for breakfast and really enjoyed it. There's plenty of choice for tea, coffee and cake. Dogs are allowed inside but that doesn't bother us. The Afternoon tea is a must try and great value.

A boutique brew bar with impractical seating arrangements in a cubby hole next to the main entrance. No doubt a popular place for the dedicated followers of fashion but it's similar to having coffee in a crowded garden shed. The coffee wasn't particularly good and no sweetener on the tables. Only recommended for the 'in crowd' who are prepared be uncomfortable while drinking average coffee.

Not to be missed if you want great coffee in a beautiful cosy atmosphere with friendly staff. I was visiting Oundle for the day for the first time. Wonderful location and definitely worth the day trip. They even took the trouble to post my much loved scarf back to me in Surrey after I accidentally left it behind. Thanks Brew Babu.

Was taken for lunch at Brew Babu yesterday by besties. Found the welcome very warm and honest, so nice for staff to be smiling when you walk in. Looked a little like a shop in a Harry Potter film; really quirky layout with rooms leading into other rooms which led on further. Nicely decorated up for Hallowe’en. Mini pumpkins used as table numbers and decoration. Specials boards dotted around for food specials; others for desserts and others for coffee ☕️, tea and hot chocolate. Clearly signed that you placed order at the till & that food and drinks served by even more smiley staff. Table next to us had preordered afternoon tea. From the amount of platters, plates and cutlery, it looked as though there was plenty available for that offer, although 24 hours advance notice must be given. Excellent choice of hot and cold drinks; by the looks of it, there seemed to be plenty of choice and availability for vegetarians AND vegans! Being a meat lover I didn’t try any non meat options. All nicely presented. Wasn’t allowed to pay the bill, but having looked at the tempting array of food available on the menu, in my opinion, it was excellent value for money. Thoroughly enjoyed how whole experience. Would and will definitely go back again!!!!

I always go to Brew Babu when I am in Oundle. Great place for snacks, tasty lunches - generous with their ingredients - superb in fact!, great selection of teas. I haven't tried the coffee or cakes but I am sure they are great too - they look delicious. Friendly staff and dog friendly. My perfect destination in Oundle.

We had been once and were underwhelmed, but tried again because of the rave reviews. Still unconvinced - young staff ignore you as you go in, not offered menus, tables not cleared, and I'm sorry to say it just looks a bit grubby. We went elsewhere.

This was the first time we had been into Oundle, doing a Treasure Trail (highly recommended btw) with our grandson. Halfway around the trail we came to Brew Babu and called in for tea and cake. Good decision! Such a great selection of teas and home-made cakes; we all agreed it had to be five stars and will recommend to friends. And a lovely shabby chic environment too!

My friend and I came here for lunch and absolutely loved it! We both ate the vegetarian ‘wrap of the day’ and it tasted delicious, so fresh & homemade. So glad there were options for veggies! Staff were so friendly and service was amazingly quick, even with quite a few other tables to serve! There was so many choices of cake, but the lemon drizzle was divine! Would highly recommend!!

Took my mother here on her first visit since moving up from London a few months ago, we phoned ahead to pre-book a table as I knew from previous experience it could get busy in there and it isn't very big. Both her and I are Coeliac sufferers, she only opted for a piece of the gluten free carrot cake and a latte whereas I chose a gluten free croque monsieur which was lovely, had masala chai as my drink, it was divine. Will go again and sample their gluten free scones. They serve a variety of teas and coffees.

I visited your “coffee shop” or shall I say child sweat shop a few Fridays ago. I ordered a latte and the coffee was honestly disgusting, there was coffee grounds floating in what I can only describe as dirty dish water. My smoked salmon bagel came with several hairs in and even some blue kitchen top which to be completely honest tasted better than the food itself. One thing I will credit you is your cake portion sizes however upon tasting your “cake” I see why they are so large, only to cover up the dry, stale cake which must’ve been days old or at least tasted as such! My partner had one of your “traybakes” or shall I say wholesale chefs larder freezerbakes, the staff were very rude, rushed off of their feet and clearly treated poorly, mmmm... bon apetit oundle, you’re in for one hell of a lunch!

We called into Oundle for morning coffee en route to visit friends. It was a long journey so we needed a stopover. We knew we would find something charming. And we did. Expectations met! Even though I did not know what they were!

The food was great one of the only places that doesn’t look askance when you ask for Vegan options. Just enjoying my second coffee, with Soya milk, it’s good to go to a place where you are known. We are very regular and it’s great place.

Lovely little cafe in Oundle. Our meal was delicious (the pita and hummus plate is out of this world good!!) and my tea was perfect. I'll definitely visit again!

My first visit to this coffee shop after it was recommended. On arriving at the counter, a lady, who I presume is the owner or manager, was sitting down chatting with a member of staff. It was nearly a minute before she looked up and noticed me. She did apologise, but her lack of attention to customers set the scene. I order two flat whites and it took 20 minutes for the coffees to arrive at our table. The coffee shop wasn't particularly busy as there were fewer than a dozen people in there, so I was mystified by the delay. The coffee tasted great, when it eventually arrived, although we had to ask for some sugar to be brought out to us. I would be reluctant to revisit, especially if I had limited time available.

We have visited often. If you are tired of the big brands then Oundle has lots of independent eating places worth trying. Brew Babu’s u.s.p. is their very wide range of loose teas, they do a fabulous hot chocolate for the young/young at heart, and for me the most important aspect is they have a well flavoured and interesting menu.

Thanks to the reviews on TripAdvisor my husband and I had breakfast at this delightfully quirky restaurant. Loved it! We will be back!....and thank you very much for your advice regarding loose tea etc.,

We went in for an afternoon drink today, we were a little disappointed with the service. The place looks lovely and the staff are nice too, however I originally asked for a strawberry milkshake, I paid for it and then waited for it to come, I was then told after I got my piece of cake five minutes later that there would be a bit of a wait for a milkshake, I asked how long, and the waitress said it would be better if I ordered something else as they were busy with a table of ten who were their for a tea party. In the mean time my husband had a cup of coffee made and i was given a diet coke instead. Rather mystified over why it takes longer to make a milkshake out of syrup they had displayed and milk than a coffee?! Furthermore if you don't have enough time to make a simple milkshake, maybe get more staff for the day?! The table we sat on also, we had to clear ourselves and then was not wiped. We won't be back. It was a shame as it was decorated in a nice quirky manner inside and the staff were friendly.

Now, we are all assaulted by coffee shops on every corner in every town but we’re do you go for a decent tea? Well brew babu could certainly be the answer. No simple cafe, this is a place to come and enjoy a wide range of unusual tea flavours from the Far East. In addition they serve a range of pleasant lunch dishes. Lovely atmosphere, nice setting and super informed and enthusiastic staff.

Such a lovely visit here today with a delicious brunch! The smoked salmon, poached eggs and bagels were to die for. A lovely quirky setting with great service from the staff. I cannot wait to return!

This is a cracking little cafeteria which to me embodies the spirit of Oundle. It is quirky, it is confident, it is able to produce high-quality food and drinks and it’s right on the in the centre of the Town. Fabulous!

We stopped here yesterday morning due to another local coffee shop being overly busy.

Well this is a real gem. My daughter was doing a trial day at Oundle School and I took her and a friend for lunch here before dropping them off. Loved it so much I came back for tea with 2 other parents, and then back for lunch again the next day before collecting the children. It was superb throughout. A super menu with lots of excellent basics as well as delicious and healthy meals with a twist - I wish I could remember what they all were but I had a wonderful chicken wrap on day 1 and a superb salad with chorizo on day 2. The staff are absolutely lovely, especially the American lady who couldn't have been more charming or helpful, especially with 1 particularly fussy child. And the tea is amazing - served with egg timers for the correct brewing time, this is Brew Babu's speciality. They have a fabulous range of loose leaf teas and it was a real pleasure to try something new, as well as having a particularly excellent Earl Grey. We loved it, and if my child does end up boarding at Oundle School I will be in Brew Babu a LOT!

Lovely restaurant. Clean very comfortable, very welcoming staff. There were four of us, we all really enjoyed our meal, 2 of us are vegetarian, plenty of food and freshly cooked. Would definitely visit this restaurant again whenever we visit this area in the future.

Stopped in Oundle for a quick shop and wanted a drink and something to eat. Just after breakfast available until 12 so we got a seat and decided from the menu on a prawnmarie rose open sandwich and a chorizo tomato ciabata. You take your table number and order and pay at the front desk. Very friendly staff and the food came fresh and in my case, hot.

Despite arriving after 3pm we were welcomed and still able to order a hot lunch. Loved the food and ambiance .

One of the best afternoon teas we’ve had. The food was all delicious, beautifully presented by attentive and friendly staff. We have a four month old baby and it was a really easy trip out for us.

Popped in for a quick coffee. Lovely quirky place, comfy sofa. Realised had to order at counter, went to counter asked to talk us through cakes, young girl totally ignored me. Another lady came over & went through impressive list - including excellent gluten free list so ok. We ordered then waited & waited & waited. Eventually, after I queried if we had been forgotten and another couple left after getting fed up waiting our cake arrived. One cup of coffee then arrived, not on a tray, no saucer. Finally very nice pot of tea arrived. All was very nice but expensive in my opinion. Final nail in coffin was arrival of one constantly barking & one constantly whining dog - not relaxing. Would not rush back here & surprised at excellent reviews.

we stopped here for breakfast on a rainy morning with two dogs. The staff welcomed us in and found us a better table to sit at with the dogs.They could not have been more helpful-even providing dog treats and a bowl of water.The food was wonderful too. We will definitely being doing a detour to visit again.Thank you so much.
