Brennans Bar in Belfast

I will never be back in this place. Food is terrible. Frozen rubbish - absolutely no taste whatsoever and service not much better. Go across to the Crown -much better

Stopped in for food and drinks, planned to stay for a couple of hours but one very rude barman upstairs shocked us, his first interaction was “quick quick what do yous want lads” continued to be rude. We decided to have food and leave ASAP, all other staff we’re very friendly and we would have liked to stay longer but refused too put up with his rude behaviour, other customers we chatted with confirmed the same rudeness not really sure about the motive or reason for his behaviour. Won’t visit again and we’ll recommend for others to avoid our party had 6 and all 6 will do the same.

Habiendo regresado a Belfast después de nuestra visita en enero, visitamos este pub y decidimos regresar nuevamente, pero obviamente éramos un poco escépticos debido a las restricciones de covid 19, el pub estaba bastante tranquilo, nos llevaron a nuestra mesa y nos sentamos ordenó algunas bebidas, la señora estaba haciendo un trabajo brillante al hacer que todos se sintieran seguros, y para servir a todos en el menor tiempo posible, tomamos algunas pintas de la cosa negra, luego pedimos el pollo picado, con arroz y papas fritas, absolutamente delicioso, solo una pequeña crítica, estaba un poco picante, el servicio, la comida, las bebidas, excelente, volveremos pronto a Belfast y sin duda disfrutaremos del bar Brennans.

Ended our day in Belfast with Fish & Chips in the upstairs bar. Had a great time watching Rugby with the locals and eating and drinking. Reasonable prices and friendly staff.

This spot was just a random find walking throughout the city Centre. Self seated and offers traditional Irish food with some American (burgers), live music upstairs, and pints around £2 each. The server we had was very attentive and helpful, made great suggestions, and service was quick. Had the fish and chips and it's was well cooked and flavored. The portion sizes are very generous so don't fill up too much on the Apps. The atmosphere is like a traditional Pub. Sports, full liquor bar, and a wide range of sounds to keep you entertained. All in all, it was a good time spent in a short time. PRO TIP: they do not accept Euros, only Pounds. #allhalethequeen

Went in here after wasting time in the Crown next door trying to get served but had no problem here as the girl came straight to us and served us some lovely Guinness.There were some kind of private booths that guys were in having a drink and a chat.While we were there the football came on and the staff pulled down a massive screen that was great to watch match on.They had the other match on a separate tv so a great place for sports and welcoming staff.

Stopped in during a downpour. Friendly staff. A vibrant feel with Saturday afternoon drinkers but all friendly and fine in Brennans. Far nicer than Robinsons next door which we walked straight out of as the smell was rough to say the least.

Excellent bar, with a “local” feel to it. The live music was very good. The staff were fast and efficient.

A fine pub, staff were very friendly and accommodating, told us a few places that were worth a visit, Guinness was lovely, a great big pub,but very welcoming, will return on our next visit to Belfast.

10 yards from "The Crown " and 10 times nicer. Food and service of good quality but the place felt a bit dodgy as the evening progressed. I would recommend but go early.

Called in on a Sunday evening following a recommendation from our taxi driver. Food was average, bar was very quiet. Good service

Just a short walk from our hotel (Jurys Inn). This bar was full of life, great Guinness and live music. Myself and some friends from England thoroughly enjoyed our few visits here.

Again popped in as a pit stop, was quite busy and the food looked nice but found the staff rude which must say was unusual for Belfast

Over in Belfast for a long weekend and popped into Brennan’s Bar. Well worth a visit to see the the band playing on a Thursday night. Great Irish crack

A delicious New Years day lunch was had here when most other places had very limited options, great services from Catherine also. Would highly recommend.

Great place to eat food was delicious and arrived promptly even though the place was packed. Music good we all had a great experience.

Opposite our hotel the Europa the bar is friendly with good array of drinks and great menu we eat there twice first we had fish and chips which were great on the second occasion I had Irish stew great wife had steak and champ (mash with spring onion) really enjoyed would recommend

Wow if you want to be made feel unwelcome go here ... the bar man with the black hair and big black earring is a big black mark on the venue .... went to Belfast for the Christmas markets and stopped off here..sat at the bar lovely bar maid and ordered a drink ...my tod this lad came in behind the bar ..tried 3 times to order a second drink each time just blanked us and served people who came up to the bar or only just in the door...absolutley no need for it must of been my irish accent..this person who is front of house for an establishment should be brought down a peg or two ...we just left ...never ever again ...shame on you young nan u did your country wrong

I was trying to find the local Spoons, got disoriented and stumbled across this fine establishment - glad I did.

Myself and my husband met here for some food and drinks. The place is lively, just opposite the Europa Hotel.

We were looking for some Irish pub grub and called in here for a drink. The blackboard menu called us . Irish ham champ and cabbage and pie and chips were delivered piping hot and were both delicious . Generous portions and good quality food . The bar staff served us well . We will return here don’t be put off by the adverts for football its worth a visit .

Stopped in for dinner and a couple pints. Order the ham and champ as well as sausages and champ. Didn't disappoint, the bar food was good and the beer was cold. Nothing fancy and service was quick. Looking for a pub dinner and a couple drinks with no fuss, this is the place

Stopped in for lunch on a day out shopping. Lovely Irish pub, cozy seating and the staff could not have been friendlier. Lunch portions were very very generous and food was really good. Worth the stop

We stopped here for dinner since the Crown Liquor Saloon across the street need reservations. A bustling pub on the ground floor but much quieter upstairs. We had the usual Guinness, an American burger and fries and the chili. Service was fast and the food very good.

We both were greeted by a friendly and helpful member of staff (sorry didn’t get his name) we were seated at a table.

My gin was served in an awful stacking glass, (the kind I wouldn't even use in my kitchen any more), with two lumps of ice. Come on - surely they can do batter than that in a city centre bar.

Food and service was good. A bit noisy, but much quieter than the Crown Liquor Saloon just across the street. Fish and Chips and Guinness and Rockshore was good. No wait which was nice. Rugby was just ending on TV and then they put on an American Football match from a while back. Weird.

The fish and chips were outstanding. The service was excellent and the Guinness was excellent. What more could anyone want? LOL

I visited this place on Sunday 29th September with my friend before travelling home, we were bone weary and glad to sit down. I was approached by a member of staff who seemed friendly enough, I asked him about the flavoured gins and was told there was only pink gin! I ordered a gin and tonic, and noticed the staff member whispering with another female member of staff whilst at the till, which caught my attention as suspicious, he then charged me £6 which I told him was expensive (I work in a bar within a hotel) he replied "it' cheap compared to other places" I was livid, and now wish I had challenged this!I I called this bar about 10 mins ago and spoke to a manager, and to say i'm disgusted is a gross understatement, I informed this rude ignorant man about the issue, he was completely uninterested, heard him asking staff members then proceeded to put the phone down! I wonder how many other customers are getting ripped off like this, particularly at peak times and when customers are too drunk to notice! I WILL be contacting head office and the brewery regarding this place's despicable behaviour!

A down to earth Belfast pub with sports screens and a funny waiter gay with beard. Good craic with his swearing and moaning but in good heart. Food fast and tasty and reasonable price.

As soon as we entered the place the people inside stared at us like if we were aliens, I felt very unwelcome, a lady push me intentionally a couple of times and you could tell they didn't want us to be there, so we had one drink and left. The guy at the bar was ok and service also, but the horrible atmosphere put me off.

I enjoyed my meal at Brennans and the atmosphere was relaxed but fun. The music was good and upstairs it was not too loud while eating. Big plus for me: they had a big screen with football on. All together a great evening!

I work in Saudi Arabia. Mike Brennan recommended this place to me as it is his cousin's place. Unfortunately we got there on a Sunday and missed meeting the cousin. My wife and I had a beer and moved on. It was a nice place and we enjoyed the muisic.

I went into the bar with my wife and two kids and was asked to leave because we were not eating. We just wanted a drink. I was quite surprised as this is the first time we have ever been refused service on this basis. To be fair they were very nice about it but I think they should have had a sign up to advise us of this at the door to avoid our embarrassment. No other bars have ever enforced this policy?

En route from Ballycastle to Glasgow with about 90 minutes for lunch before ferry. Straight out of bus station and into Brennan's. Saturday afternoon, football on, racing on, packed bar. In seconds, the super lady behind the bar got us a table, menus, drinks and made us so welcome that it totally defined what hospitality is all about. And then she brought our food. What yummy food it was. Delicious, well cooked and plentiful. The bill said her name is Donna. Donna, you are a star and a credit to Brennan's. Two very happy ladies left Belfast this afternoon, knowing EXACTLY where they will be eating next time they visit.

I had some time to kill before a scheduled appointment, so I spent it at Brennan's Bar. They had a good happy hour special.

When we were unable to find a seat in the Crown Bar next door, we settled for Brennans and discovered it to be a popular place as well. We were fortunate to get a table on the second floor, and then made a discovery that the traditional Irish food is excellent. The service was a little slow because the wait staff was overworked when we visited. The food is very reasonably priced.

As the title says. Great live music with a mix of locals and tourists. Friendly staff. Nice pint of Guinness to boot. Can’t go wrong.

Called in here yesterday for lunch, a great pub that I visited last time I was in Belfast. This time we decided to get something to eat. I went for Sausage and champ which was four sausages on a bed of champ with a gravy jug. Food arrived within 10 minutes of placing the order and it was very tasty.

No seats downstairs but advertising seats in "lounge up stairs" Upstairs nearly empty and barman asks if I'm eating or drinking-only. When I say the latter he says I must return downstairs. Can they not chalk that up downstairs?

Waste of time calling to this bar asked to leave with my family because we only wanted drinks you have to order food and drinks to be served!

Cannot believe I and my 3 friends were treated last Wednesday afternoon. We are all 60+ who meet up every 2 months for a chat and drinks.

We took the train back to Belfast and when we got off the train and headed into Belfast, we saw Brennans Bar. We decided to give it a try. My wife had a steak, I had the curry over rice. Food was good. The service was good, when I went to pay, I had the waitress add on a tip, and was told that I was giving her too much of a tip, never had that happen before. Great atmosphere, would definitely go back.

Right in centre, very well priced food and drinks. Went for a last drink before heading to the airport. Good service.

Love a pub you can call in for a late afternoon lunch/drink and you find the entertainment starts at 5pm. Small menu but food piping hot and tasty, good atmosphere and worth more than one visit.

I read elsewhere that the upstairs was for eating and quieter, but it was closed off when we went, so I asked if we could still get meals. "Booth" said the guy with a flick of the head, like I knew what that meant. We found a sectioned-off booth in the corner. Two minutes later, we were asked what we wanted, having hardly read the menu. The meals arrived suspiciously quickly but were plentiful. There was no kiddie menu, so some got wasted. Half way through eating, the lassie came back with an "Oh", that we hadn't yet finished. "...err, everything OK?" and went away again. For pub grub, it was pretty flavoursome, though the rice was laced through with uncooked grains that crunched in every mouthful. After that, we ate in the far more congenial environment of our hotel, which was dearer for us, but had a half-price kiddie menu, so was overall cheaper, better quality, quieter...etc, etc...

There is a lovely friendly atmosphere to this bar. Good menu - some meals come with ‘champ’ (mashed potatoes mixed with spring onion). Wide variety of beers and spirits. Good food at good prices.

I see the last reviewer said the service was outstanding. Maybe you got lucky or maybe we didn't? We waited at our table about 15 minutes before I finally figured out that no one from behind the bar was going to come out and take an order. So after 15 minutes I walked up to the bar and ordered drinks, paid for them and went back and sat down. We had thought of staying to eat, but no one ever came by to ask if would like anything else. so we left.

We are on a tour that just has a quick stop on Belfast and we wanted to stop for a pint and quick pint. We tried two nearby pubs but couldn't get waited on. The minute we walked in the staff was attentive and very friendly. They even provided a sample of the beer without us asking. We just had sides of chips and onion rings but both were crispy and tasty.

We found this near our hotel, and visited several times , mainly for guiinness, but we d did eat there once Service great, food very good for the price, very enjoyable

My girls and I Went in here for a drink and a meal about 5pm - the guy on the door spoke to us-in the charming Irish accent and even explained it was quieter up the stairs.

We where In Belfast for a day had done the Titanic Musium went in to town to look for food. My son got his phone out and found this pub. When we entered we where pleasantly surprised a proper pub with loads of charm. I was told you have to try Guinness in Ireland as it tastes better. I did try it and yes it was the best I had tried so I had another just to make sure. We also had food that was also amazing I had ham and champ. Good portion and great taste my son had a huge burger and chips. And said how tasty it is. My wife and daughter had chicken goujons. Home made and very tasty again. If you in Belfast give this pub a go you won't regret it.

Went here for music, drink and dancing and found an abundance of all three. While there was no table service we got our drinks from the bar and had a great time. We had eaten earlier so food was not a need. Impressed with the amount of locals partying hearty on a Friday night. Great fun.

A bit of a cheat really as we didn’t have a drink in here. What we did see was that it was an absolutely gorgeous pub with lots of booths with doors of mahogany and brass (maybe). Unfortunately it was full of people too. Too many to contemplate a relaxing drink with a seat for an hour or so. It was a bit of a surprise as it was 6 o’clock on Wednesday evening. We departed almost as soon as we arrived vowing to return.

Went here with my family the other day, got the little private table tucked away and were made feel absolutely welcome. Lovely staff and wonderful hearty Irish meals. Good cider too!

We were staying at a hotel down the street and stopped here for dinner. Although they were busy we were seated immediately, had service and drinks within minutes and food very quickly. The fish and chips were excellent and large servings. The servers were very friendly and made us feel special even with how busy they were.

This place is right across the street from the Europa hotel, which is where we were staying. We stopped in for a drink and a meal. The beer and cider(wife) hit the spot after a long day. The Irish baked ham & cabbage was really tasty but fish & chips had too much batter and not enough fish. We were surprised by a 3 piece band that began playing Typical Irish tunes about wars and lost loves. Very good!

Nice basic pub food, drinks were the usual city centre prrices. Staff were nice and friendly and the live music was chilled and relaxed.

Stopped for a pint and talked to locals and had GREAT service. Love this place! Had we not had to get back on a bus we would have stayed MUCH longer! we will be back!

Like a lot of pubs you can get your own drinks,pay for them and carry to your table. We then ordered our food, got it but the waiter never came at cheque time. When I went to pay, I had no bill and even though I had my visa in hand and told them I wanted to pay, no bill was presented. They took a while to understand that I was trying to pay what I owed.

What a find!!!! The food was reasonably priced, and the standard of food was very good! We ate there every night if our short break! The Guinness was the best by far! We tried others but were disappointed and kept coming back here! Friendly staff! A warm Irish welcome awaits you at Brennan’s!

Another good place for drinks and entertainment in Belfast. Spent a good few hours here and probably would have stayed longer but had an early flight the next day.

Brennan’s bar comes highly recommended for a good pint and in my opinion, very good pub grub.

Dreadful experience in Brennans bar Belfast . smelly dirty toilets , surly rude staff, certainly we will never return . Had my review taken down by TripAdvisor for slamming the place . Very unhappy.

Had a very unenjoyable evening in Brennan's bar . The barman was particularly unfriendly and a terrible people person . This was the skinny guy with a beard and tattoos. We have enjoyed previous incarnation s of Brennan's bar but will never darken this one's door again . Very disappointed.

Bar staff friendly and the food was great. We had fish and chips and an American burger. (It really did not taste like an American burger, but it was still good). The bar inside is clean and quaint. It is next to a fancy bar but I would recommend this place for food and atmosphere over their neighbor.

Great for sports fans as lots of screens and sport on, lots of screens too.

Visited Brennan’s as the Crown and Robinson’s were packed. However, this bar was just as good with live music both nights we were there. Great singer akin to Van Morrison made easy listening. Although we didn’t avail, the bar grub looked lovely and was very keenly priced. To be honest, we found it a much nicer bar than either Robinson’s or the Crown.

Exceptionally friendly and welcoming bar to sit and enjoy a drink and delicious food in. Thomas is especially helpful and friendly, although all the staff are very friendly. Lovely place to sit and relax in. Would thoroughly recommend.

Warm welcome from the staff. The place was heaving because of the rugby and it was standing room only downstairs. We were offered a table upstairs.

Near the Crown and Robinson's Bar , it's a fun, lively little place. Live music on and food. We didn't eat there but the beer and wine was about the average for the area.

This bar is in a prime spot across the road from the Europa Hotel in Belfast. I called in very hungry and looking forward to a good meal. the bar is OK with an atmosphere similar to one of the old Belfast social clubs, it even had horse racing on the telly. I don't remember if there was any background music. The staff were friendly and very efficient which was great considering it was very busy with a mix of locals and tourists. I ordered fish and chips with mushy peas. To be honest I was very disappointed in what I got. The fish was just OK, but the chips where tasteless frozen chunky chips. I would of thought that a bar in this area would of done far better food than this. I could of got the same meal in one of Belfast's many great fish and chip shops and it would of been a lot nicer than this. Sorry for the bad review. But it was disappointing.

This place was 100 feet from my hotel so I stopped by after dinner for a drink and the music. Surprisingly it was not crowded at all. I ordered an appetizer and a drink and mainly wanted to hear the music. I expected to hear Irish music but the two guys in the band played American rock and country music! They did a good job too.

My wife and I stopped in Brennans late one raining afternoon for a beer and a snack. The pub was fairly full and the few empty tables were covered with spilled liquid as well as empty plates, bottles and glasses. After sitting at a table with none of the servers acknowledging us, I nicely approached one of them and told her we would love to order when she was free and noted that the items on the table were not ours. She snapped back "if you don't like it, find somewhere else to sit". Eventually a nice young man cleaned the table and took our order - another 10 minutes went by before drinks appeared - and food 10-15 minutes after that.

We went here for an evening meal and found a good table upstairs. This is a very traditional pub with black and white tiled floor downstairs. There was a good varied choice of traditional pub food on offer which was served quickly. The staff were very friendly too, nothing was too much trouble. Can recommend. There are so many places to eat but this fitted the bill nicely for us on our first night in Belfast.

Called in for a meal before getting the bus back to the airport. We were served at our table, drinks were brought to us. Staff couldn't be any more helpful. Chose fish and chips. Was large size portion and enjoyable. Will definately come back when in Belfast again

Good crowd was entertained by an excellent band Wavelength. Drink was fine and reasonably priced for the city centre. OnlY concern was that they don't except debit or credit cards for alcohol??? Seriously, it's 2019!!

Visited for tea on 23/12 as only across the road from our hotel. The Guinness was cold and just how it should be served. My wife had Champ and I had sausages with chips very nice in nice surroundings with a waitress that was excellent.

Brennans always attracts an eclectic mix of people but the entertainment is always good. 16 of us visited for a friend's Christmas dinner. The service was excellent and good was fabulous. Huge portions! A touch too expensive for 2 courses in Brennans though
