I have over the years had many meals from the Breidden and can say that throughout this time they have been consistently good - last night by way of a celebration we stopped off for a take-away and to by a few drinks (for home consumption of course) as always thoroughly enjoyed by all - keep up the good work

We have a sited caravan just outside of Welshpool and fancied a chinese takeaway. We turned to good old Tripadvisor and found The Breidden. Technically not in Welshpool and 12km away from where we we were but worth the 20 minute drive. You can order ahead using their website stating what time you want to collect. We had battered sweet and sour chicken and fried rice, chicken chow mein and enough prawn crackers to feed the rest of the the caravan park and all for £15.20. It was ready on the dot and you pay on collection. All the food was lovely and I've picked up a menu as will definitely be ordering from here again!

We rang up to find out if dogs were allowed inside, as it's a pub but were told we would have to sit outside in the garden. We thought we'd do this so drove there for dinner. When we arrived, we parked in the front but immediately noticed that the garden is to the side of the pub and there's the main road only a few feet away. I sat outside with our dog whilst my husband got a menu, by the time he'd come back I said we're getting a take away as the traffic was quite busy and I just didn't want to sit outside eating. The menu was good and we ordered a few dishes and my husband got a pint whilst he waited for our order, which he enjoyed. We got chicken balls in batter with sweet and sour sauce, very good and tasty. I got chicken with pineapple and ginger - this was also good, the pieces of ginger were very big! Chicken chow mein - this tasted good but didn't look so good, quite a few black pieces in it which I picked out. An egg fried rice which was ok, not a lot of egg though.Overall it was a tasty take away and we'd go here again if in the area.

We used to live in the Welshpool area and visited this wonderful pub / restaurant several times. Work has meant a relocation, so an arrangement to meet friends gave us an excuse to go back. The menu is Chinese, the food always to a high standard, well presented and a nice amount for the cost. We always find the staff helpful and friendly and nothing is too much trouble. When visiting here, don't forget that it is a pub, not a fine dining restaurant so please expect there to be people standing drinking at the bar and playing pool. If this bothers you we recommend when booking that you ask for one of the tables away from the bar. We can't wait to go back. Thanks to everyone at The Breidden.

Coming back from Welshpool after a long day doing heritage railways in Wales I stopped at "the first pub I can find", The Breidden is on the busy road from Welshpool to Shrewsbury but has ample parking space. I started with a nice pint of real ale as I was thirsty. It turned out to be a place run by a Chinese entrepreneur and there were other people having a meal. Not having planned my dinner yet I decided to grab this sudden opportunity to have something else than the curry-take aways that you find all over England (which I don't like as a Dutchman!) I am more familiar with the Chinese menu. It turned out to be the right thing to do. The Breidden is located in a little village, but with a camping site across the road where lots of their patrons reside in their caravans. People kept coming and going out again with large bags of take away meals. That is a good sign as it means the locals appreciate the place!

This place was recommended by a friend and after reading trip advisor we were excited to visit! We walked into to a dated, cluttered looking pub. The decor resembles something of an old social club from the 70s and the clientele match the decor. But the reviews were all so good?! Maybe this is a best of a bad bunch kinda place? The service at the bar was friendly so we ordered some drinks and we were directed to a table. The glasses were dirty so we asked for replacements and feeling nervous began looking for an alternate place to eat. We were approached by another friendly server and given some recommendations on the menu. Feeling apprehensive we decided to try some starters! Worst case scenario we could always leave after starters. The starters came and were delicious!! Hot, tasty and served on clean plates with clean crockery! We decided to stay for main courses and were NOT disappointed. Again the food was efficient and tasty. The service and food were outstanding! We would definitely return here. The atmosphere and environment however need work! As much as I relish being glared at by old boozers with no teeth right next to our table (we must have been sat at "their table") I think next time we would get take out.

We ate here with friends who recommended it, but we were very disappointed and did not enjoy the experience at all. We shared a starter with pancakes, duck and accompaniments. The pancakes were difficult to pick out as they were very thin and stuck together, and the duck was not served very hot. The person who served us, hung around, watching us put our starter together and then, very rudely interrupting our conversation, told me that I was doing it all wrong and needed to put the hoisin sauce into the pancake roll first, and told my husband how to roll his pancake up (twice). This did not go down well as he embarrassed us in front of our friends, and was unnecessarily rude and intrusive. When the main meals arrived I got my chicken and cashew nuts, but it was only just warm and was very bland tasting. The people who had got sizzling dishes obviously got their food hot, but by the time that I finished mine, it was just tepid and the taste was very disappointing. Also, the pub had got quite noisy by the time that we were finishing our meal with lots of loud laughter and shouting round the bar area. It is not a good atmosphere to eat in and I will not be returning.

I have passed the Breidden so often and was totally unaware that the pub was also a Chinese Restaurant and takeaway. After a long day on the road and on the way home, I felt in the mood for something to tempt my taste buds. I stopped and searched online for a takeaway and saw the reviews of the Breidden. Their menu was a fusion of Cantonese, Thai, Malaysian and Japanese cooking. I stopped and entered the pub which on Thursday night had quite a few regulars. I liked the interaction between owners and the regulars and there was a underlying positive atmosphere about the place. I ordered the chicken satay. I am often disappointed by what is offered from restaurants when it comes to satay. A family member once owned an Indonesian Restaurant and so I have a firm opinion as to what a good satay should look and taste like. The sauce should have a rich colour, and be fairly thick in consistency. You should be able to taste the peanut base and also it should have a kick. The satay that the Breidden offered was the closest I have found to my satay nirvana although still not as perfect or as tasty as you can get in Indonesian Restaurants in Holland for example. Yet, despite this and the Thai influence, it was good. They use good quality chicken and the sauce was tasty with a decent kick and consistency. I would certainly visit the Breidden again. I gave the 5 because it was tasty though not perfect but the service was excellent and fairly fast When they cook to order you don't want it too fast as that indicates a slapdash approach. The place had a great feel and seemed popular with locals. Do pop in.

We've stopped at this pub a number of times (notably once at Hallowe'en when the place was decked out fab with fake cobwebs and vampire bats!) and always loved it! It's got a great atmosphere - locals mixing with the tourists heading into Wales - it's very friendly, warm and cosy and the food is fab!You can have English or Chinese Cuisine and there's a lot of choice - I usually have the sweet and sour mixed vegetables or the stir fry three kind mushrooms - and finish off with some vanilla ice cream! Inside it's bigger than it looks from the outside and there's loads different sizes of tables so will suit large groups, families and couples all the same. I really recommend this place if you're nearby or passing! So full marks from me to this pub and big thanks to the waitress who searched the freezers to find me a novelty ice cream a bit like Punky the Penguin but in the shape of a cow - I'm such a big kid!

We visited this pub on the 12th as we stopped in the area to take part in quad biking near by. The pub was great venue for 11 blokes and the drinks were not bad priced we had booked a table for 7pm but asked if we could eat early and the staff were very accommodating. there was a good range of food on the menu and was ordered by us. I ordered chicken curry egg fried rice and Chips. My food was amazing!!! The best Chinese Food I have ever eaten. The rest of our table were also equally impressed at the quality and portion of the meals!!! If in area I would definitely divert here for food!!!

I have never been to a pub masquerading as a Chinese restaurant!! The food was absolutely lovely, authentic and tasty. The place was clearly still a pub but you can't knock it as they do awesome food

On arrival at the pub/restaurant it was good to see it had had a refurbishment, new flooring, new seating and a general make over. Previously I had thought it rather tired. The service was excellent, very attentive, we ordered drinks initially and took our time to review the menu. We had a set starter for 2 - very nicely presented and very tasty and hot. We then requested a break between courses and he took this on board. Our main meal was again very well presented, hot but a little salty. We will call again but will mention less salt. But I cannot fault the excellent service.

Great Chinese food served virtually any time of day. We popped in about 6pm and had a lovely meal which was served very quickly. This is also a locals pub so expect to see people just having a pint and playing pool but the surroundings are very clean. The quality of the food is very high but also very good value for money. Beer's pretty good too.

The food was excellent and so very reasonably priced that we visited three times in the week we stayed in the area. The atmosphere was good as it was always busy with a mix of visitors locals and young farmers. Thoroughly recommend to all

We pulled into this pub on our way back from Harlech. Not much to look at from the outside but we were all starving. It turned out be a Chinese orientated Pub with other international food on the menu. I had the sizzling lamb. It was excellent and the other dishes chosen by my fellow travelers was just as good. The staff were all polite & efficient. The only small minus was that the tables could have been a little bigger to stave off elbow wars !

One of the nicest Chinese meals we have eaten for a while. The service is always exceptional and the staff very welcoming. Tonight we had shredded lamb pancakes, king prawn fried rice and chicken curry to share. Everything was cooked to perfection and the price is affordable.

Every time I've been to the Breidden I have been SO impressed by the range and quality of the beers and the food. This must be one of the most unique combinations in the country. If they could franchise or raised capital to duplicate this concept, it would be bigger than Wetherspoons, All this and a lovely garden setting, looking to the hills; (Albeit a bit too close to the main road).

Needed a meal and pulled in at this roadside pub expecting to be fed the usual 'pub grub', only to find that not only was that of offer but we had the choice of several nationalities. The staff were all friendly and efficient. The food was excellent and reasonably priced. We thoroughly enjoyed our impromptu stop there.

Do you ever hanker after a certain type of meal? Sometimes it's the traditional UK fare, sometimes a good curry, but for days I had been hankering for a good Chinese meal. Fortunately, i knew exactly where to go. A fascinating place; a pub that the moment you walk in can surprise the inexperienced. For it's not just a traditional pub, which it is, it's one of the finest Chinese restaurants in the UK. Now there's a bold statement, but I have spent many years working in China, Japan, Malaysia and nearby countries, so I have had the pleasure of sampling the so-called 'real thing' - the good news is, you don't have to travel to the Far East to enjoy some of the finest Chinese food there is. Just go to the Breidden Pub. Simple as that. Welcoming and friendly owners and staff, mouthwatering and varied menu, lovely range of real ales - what more do you want? Darn it, now I've written this, I have to go back and try some of the dishes I missed last time. Sometimes life is tough, but I'm a brave boy.

We only live on the other side of the Breidden Hill but had no idea the Breidden pub existed, and only discovered it today when googling Chinese restaurants in Welshpool. What a good find!I'm glad we were not put off by the previous two reviews because we could not have received a more friendly or warm welcome than we did from the owner and his staff, from start to finish. We chose the set menu at £9.50 as we wanted to sample several dishes and it was a very good choice. The ingredients were of high quality, fabulous king prawns and tender beef in particular, beautifully cooked and so important, served on hot plates and dishes. The owner was very happy to talk about the ingredients and where to source them. Now we have found the Breidden we will certainly go again and probably very soon! Thanks to all at the Breidden

I will never go back and eat in, only take-away. The reason for this is because I cannot believe how rude the staff actually are. It's ridiculous. The food is good, but rather over priced. Not good service.

I am rarely compelled to write reviews, but this one particular time I visited the Breidden Inn and the experience was less than impressive. Having just completed a 10 mile hike around the hills, I popped in for a quick drink along with 20 other fellow walkers. The service was slow but not unexpected due to the amount of people and not helped by a barrel change. The issue for me was not the slow service, but that the person behind the bar was downright rude and very abrasive in his tone. You would have thought we were debt collectors. Perhaps he'd had a particularly bad day but if he treats his customers this way then pretty soon he'll have none at all!!

At first glance you would this to be a typical roadside english pub, serving english pub grub..but the food on offer is a well cooked chinese menu..ok a little strange eating your Peking duck while someone smashes pool balls about on the pool table, and your sat by a typical pub bar, but that said the food is very good and enjoyable,, but dont drink to much, because after a visit to the typical over used pub loo, you might need some fresh outside air, and that return to the table for your sweet, might not be so appealing

We have used the Breidden several times in the past but the standard has fallen the portions now much smaller and the quality also has dropped and Ling and Mike just completely ignore you they need to get their priorities right I had heard that things were not so good but we thought we would try but that is the last time they are just not interested in keeping local trade.

Typical Welsh border pub...except...it's Chinese! Real mainland Chinese owners, Chinese cooks and Chinese bar ladies run a tight ship at this pub on the England/Wales border. Food is excellent, so is the beer and best of all are those Chinese who have adopted Wales. They have a good sense of humor and have carved a niche for themselves in the hearts of the locals who come to drink, play pool and enjoy Chinese food. Maybe not unique, but unusual and highly recommended.

If you once stop by chance you will always plan your route around a stop here. Outstanding food, expertly cooked, and served by staff who know what they are talking about especially diet problems with ingredients . Having eaten in Chinese establishment in Europe and America the menu here is really something special and for a small establishment extensive. What it says on the menu is what you get served hot and fresh.

We stopped here for a very welcome dinner while driving home from a weekend in Wales. It's a pub with a restaurant that serves a few basic, English meals but is mainly a Chinese restaurant. Very friendly, helpful staff. The food was great and just what we needed to break up our drive. It's obviously a popular place and deservedly so. Would definitely visit again.

Kwai Chin Newtownlocation-iconMarket St.Chinese

We have been using this takeaway for 30 years. Myself and my family loved it here, the quality used to be brilliant.Tonight was our last visit. It has gone downhill badly. The chips were reheated and chewy, the curry was watery and my vegetable dish was tasteless. I never thought I would leave a bad review of the Kwai Chin as it used to be fantastic. Simon, if you are reading this, please improve or you will have no customers left. What a waste of £19!
