We originally aimed for next-door Pen Factory, but boy, that was soooo noisy that we quickly escaped. This was our "lucky escape", very quiet, relaxed enironment and great rather cheap food.

Booked for an early dinner last night on the basis of favourable TripAdvisor reviews. It was quite busy between 5.30 and 6.30, most diners (like us) seemed to be going to the forthcoming concert at the nearby Philharmonic Hall. It served that purpose well, with quick, efficient and friendly service so we did not have to rush. Good bistro atmosphere, but the tables are very close together (about a 6-inch gap between our table and the next) so hardly any privacy for conversation -- luckily our "neighbours" were friendly and we had a good chat! Chairs are rather hard. The food was good but not exceptional (at least what we chose), with several specials in addition to the dishes listed on the menu (and website). The main menu is well priced, with starters at £4.50 and mains at £12.50. There is a set 3-course vegan menu at £15 for those of that persuasion. Our starters were vegetable tempura (which was rather tasteless) and a chilli prawn dish (like a gambas pil-pil), which was tasty but the prawns were rather small and not a lot of them. Mains were a boef bourgignonne, which was excellent, and a chicken fricassée in a creamy sauce with boiled rice and vegetables, which was fine but rather ordinary. Descriptions of other mains look interesting for next time! A shared bread and butter pudding dessert was excellent. There is a smallish but interesting wine list at very reasonable prices (several 175-ml glasses at £4), and it is very pleasing that all (except sparkling) are available in a 500-ml carafe, ideal for a couple where one is driving and a full bottle may be too much. I wish more restaurants did that. We had a carafe of excellent Rioja for £16. There is also an extensive bar menu of beers and spirits, again well priced. Various coffees are £1.80--2.60.

Booked for a Saturday night for a meal for two. I had previously visited this venue in its previous guise as clove hitch. First impressions not the best, we were seated in the front room in what is a converted gorgian town house. Unfortunately the decor just doesnt do it justice. Little things like the cut out for the sockets missing plaster, missing dador rail on one wall and in the toilets the wall paper on the ceiling hanging down. Its a real shame but also a dangerous business model when so many in the vercinity are gettingit right. As for the food, the starter of figs with honey was very nice, the main of beef borgineon was ok but th beef was a little tough. It should fall to pieces with the fork but i had to use a knife to cut it up. Also no body asked if we required a dessert despite the restaurant being less than half full. I wish the venue well and dont feel it would take a whole not to really move it up a notch or two but for know its only hitting average.

We were a party of 10 wanting a meal at 10 pm on a Saturday night. Not many restaurants would consider accommodating us at fairly short notice. However, we were royally catered for. The service was excellent, attentive but not intrusive. They stayed open until after their closing time and not at any time were we rushed. The food was excellent, particularly the beef bourginon and the mussels. Everyone in the party was impressed and rightly so. Highly recommended. Thank you to all the staff.

I dined here with a friend and I immediately fell in love with the interior. It's like being inside a friend's home. Warm, cozy and inviting. Having lived in France for many years I was eager to try the boeuf Bourguignon and I started with the grilled figs with Gorgonzola and honey. OMG. Those figs were amazing. I didn't want it to end. Then the boeuf Bourguignon came and it was better than any I had ever had in Lyon, Marseille or Paris. I mean, it was just delicious right down to the last drop. I was blown away. How can they do such quality meals at such reasonable prices? I did not have dessert but next time I will certainly try it as I'm sure the desserts are just as good as the starters or mains. This restaurant it highly recommended. Don't go anywhere else if you're on Hope Street. Amazing.

A friend had recommended this restaurant to me, I was looking for somewhere new to try with my other half for our anniversary, booked for a rainy Friday night, due to the rain we arrived earlier than the booking so we sat at the bar with a bottle of red trying to dry off, once we were ready we were shown to our table, the waitress went through the options on the menu as well as the specials board, thought this was a great touch instead of just leaving you with the menu and walking off, I ordered the salt & pepper squid and chicken supreme gnocchi, my other half opted for the belly pork and steak and chips for main, the food was excellent, really fresh and tasty, it was superb value for what we got, we will definitely be back, thank you

We ate in the early evening and already there were a number of tables booked so suggestion would be to book in advance. The food was very good and out of 7 people we had foodies, fussy eaters and gluten problems and yet everyone was totally satisfied. Dined here on Saturday night - there's many things to like about this restaurant - the tasteful decor, the lack of loud music which makes it possible to have a conversation and the very discreet and efficient service. The three of us had the steak and chips, which was good although I would have preferred my medium rare steak to have been cooked for a little longer. Nonetheless it was a very tasty dish, washed down by a nice Spanish rioja. The price of the main course at around £12 is very good and we didn't feel rushed at all, although we didn't have dessert the staff let us linger chatting for a while. A good find, we wouldn't hesitate to come back.

Beautiful looking building and restaurant. Lovely service. The food was absolutely delicious- classics done well. Great Rioja. We really enjoyed our first visit and will be back for the steaks next time as they looked great.

Lovely food, atmosphere, attentive staff with good knowledge of the drinks menu. Definitely will be returning, loved the bright and airy conservatory. Worth a visit, belly pork was amazing.

Cold wet and windy on Hope Street after watching Paddy Parade, we ducked into this haven for Sunday Lunch.

A really succulent steak frites washed down with a warming Malbec. Great service and atmosphere. Perfect placed on Hope Street for a pre-show meal.

Haven't been to Liverpool for years and noticed how generally upmarket (in a good way) the city has become. And this restaurant is a reflection of that. It's a lovely, remarkably good value and friendly restaurant with a separate bar downstairs. The restaurant has bags of atmosphere and a small but clever menu of old time favourites and interesting new items with a few vegan & vegetarian options. Delightful Staff

Not much more to say. The restaurant is closed its still advertised here and on signs around Queens Square. Just thought I'd let you know to save you looking for it in a strange city as I did

Me encantó.
