Food was amazing service was great and the atmosphere too!!!

Edit: Returned again and had a wonderful time again! Exceptional food and service! We had such a brilliant time for a family dinner on Saturday. Everyone’s food was stand out and the service was really professional and friendly. My little sister has a dairy allergy and was completely catered for. Plus the best old fashioned I’ve had in a good while!

We visited Brasserie Prince for lunch and had a real 5 star experience. From the entrance to the Balmoral hotel and the amazing ambience of the restaurant, it really feels special. The food was amazing and really well presented and the service was outstanding, everyone makes you feel like the most important person in the room. Customer service at the very best. Well worth a 450 mile round trip for lunch!

Restaurant de l’hôtel, nous avons utilisé le bar. Ambiance feutrée, cocktails excellents. Belle décoration. Service impeccable. Attention, les toilettes sont au 3e sous sol, il ne faut pas d’urgence !

Cocktails were amazing. Service was fabulous - Peter was very friendly and professional. He knew the menu incredibly well and was kind enough to recommend things to do. 5 star service indeed ! Only a 4 star because of the toilets sadly.

Have always valued the Sunday roast but on this occasion it was just OK; meat was not hot enough, gravy seemed to have meat juices in it which is always good but included too much of the fat which affected the taste and it was not as nice. As for the horseradish cream not strong enough, it was more like clotted cream for a scone; and for its price was disappointing. The service, though, was excellent and highly knowledgeable waiter plus the choice of gins and was also excellent. People around us not having the roast were raving positively about the food.

This place didn’t disappoint! We wanted a little extra for Friday night dinner on our trip to Edinburgh. We got a little extra; the place was gorgeous, classic French interior and waiters in white shirts. Staff was very welcoming and attentive, the food was sublime, and a small, but high standard wine selection. If you want to experience some classic, high standard French food in the chill and welcoming Scottish atmosphere— go to Brasserie Prince!

Excellent food and very good service with a couple of negative points. We really liked the salmon and the mussels, as well as the endive salad and the fries. The desserts were very good too. 4 stars instead of 5 for only two reasons: - the salmon supposedly came with truffles but there wasn't a hint of truffle taste - a 10% tip was automatically and discreetly added to the bill - I understand it's common here, but the way it was so discreet just really bothered me, especially for us tourists who are not used to this custom

Peter (the bar manager), Ruri the bartender, Victor the bartender, and the other staff were a real treat! The drinks were also amazing and worth the slightly higher price. Would def recommend!!

We had an amazing server with some witt, which entertained us after a long day walking about the city. The complimentary snacks were very tasty, great cocktail options and they are fabulous at checking on you regularly. We felt looked after and are happy to recommend to friends and family

Excellent brasserie. Classics with a slight modern twist, delicately presented. Flavourful dishes, incredibly fresh ingredients (one of the best local beef and shellfish in town) attentive and friendly service. And great coffee btw.

One of my favourite places to eat when in Edinburgh an amazing relaxed atmosphere and top quality service from all the staff working there. I wanted to give a special shout out to Katsia who was looking after us , she was very kind and attentive. A great way to end our trip.

We came here on the end of my Birthday weekend and loved it. We had a train to catch but popped in for a drink and nibbles. It's been a dream of mine to visit The Balmoral and now we are planning to revisit at Christmas. The ambiance and service were wonderful and the live pianist was superb- who new Radio Head could sound so good on a baby grand and I got a bit emotional when he played There must be an Angel. Added bonus of log fire, 30's decor and fresh flowers.

My wife and I were looking to see what the hotel was that this brasserie was in. A member of staff came out to say hello and invited us in to have a quick look around. Decided to have a drink whilst there. Very attentive staff, lovely setting and prices less than anticipated.

Really refined bar. Food great, service extraordinary. Location fantastic. Better than Hadrians which it replaced.

My absolute favourite place (when in Edinburgh) is The Brasserie Prince inside The Balmoral Hotel. I adore the Classic Fish Pie with Fries on the side and the only dessert for me is the Crème Brûlée. I may of eaten a few of these in my time and by far the best I have eaten is most certainly here at The Brasserie Prince. A delicious lunch meant a Sunday well spent and I will always look forward to visiting, and eating, here again soon! 🤩

Great experience, coffee was good...but the Shortbread was simply Divine....i could eat them all day...

I unfortunately have to retract my previously positive review. I visit this place quite often for a few drinks and to chill, but last night I was REFUSED ENTRY! at 17,45 and with plenty of empty tables! I called at Prince at 17,45 asking for a quick table for one. I was told they were taking only reservations and no walk-ins that night. I tried to say I would be quick, the person at the door (a gentleman) repeated and even said "AS I SAID, we are only taking reservations tonight". I was appalled. It was 17,45, a lot of the tables were empty and I have been at this place before on Fridays and Saturdays as a walk-in at even busier times and they have always found me a spot, if not, they offered a spot at the bar. I have never noticed particularly well-dressed people in this environment. I, myself, have never come here dressed as if I were going to the gala. BUT, you know what? Last night I was wearing the coat in the picture, with jeans and loafers. My hair was tied up in a ponytail and I was wearing no make-up. I guess I didn't look glamorous? Not feminine enough? With a big chunky coat and jeans? I am appalled. I wasn't born yesterday. This doesn't seem to me like the country where appeareances matter (and, for that one, there's jeans fetching at £2000....). Do they treat in the same way someone who might have saved the entire month or year to come treat themselves there? Just because they're not fancily appearing? It just feels horrible to be discriminated against. On top of that, I was and am depressed and wanted to just have a chill time in a place I kinda like. Whatever.

Unexciting cocktail that was served looking as though someone had drunk half of it already. Overpriced & disappointing.

I la cançó “American Pie” de Don McLean sonant de fons. Un french peess coffe per acabar. Els coberts perfectament aliniats, els cambrers parlant amb un accent italià La sensació de ser en una esfera fora de la realitat exterior. I no els he provat, però he vist passar uns quants coctiailsr d’aspecte irresistible.

The bar is an amazing place to get some drinks mid day! The food is quite good and the cocktails are made to perfection! The service staff is very kind and well trained! Not cheap but worth it for the experience

First time here only had drinks and nibbles, but what a fantastic atmosphere. The bar manager and our waitress were so happy and nice this place was just an absolute treat. Can't wait to get back to stay here and have a meal in the restaurant

Had the best evening / meal at The Brasserie. Our daughter booked a table to celebrate our wedding anniversary and they greeted us with a lovely glass of bubbly which set the tone beautifully. The staff were amazing and made our evening extra special. Loved the food and was sad to leave. We will return again for sure.

Booked meal in the bistro restaurant as No1 was closed. What a disaster! Starter was meant to be scallops with crispy pork belly. Was advised that pork belly wasn’t available but we’d get extra large portion scallops instead. . We got 1.5 scallops each and that was it!! ( they’d clearly cut the scallops across in half so it looked like 3 but in reality only 1.5). Absolute rip off. Tomato salad was two sliced tomatoes- NOTHING else. No dressing or seasoning - just sliced tomatoes. Fish was meant to have fennel. NO fennel- half a slice of courgette instead (and I mean half a slice!!) Again no seasoning or any flavour. Truely awful experience. Unacceptable arrogance as they clearly think they are above a decent service! Avoid the Balmoral !

I had visited the Palm Court the day before for their sublime afternoon tea so decided next day to try breakfast at Brasserie Prince. Breakfast surely must have been equally as appetizing. Well, no, it surely was not. Porridge was reasonably tasty as was the Balmoral full Scottish breakfast although it took 25 minutes to materialize. I would have liked to try their corned beef hash but was informed that one could only take one meal from each section. No staff mentioned this when I arrived and nowhere was this mentioned on the menu. This is quite poor for a five star hotel. My latte was satisfactory if somewhat bland. I did inform the head waiter upon leaving but no reduction in the total bill was forthcoming.So, overall very poor. I’ve visited nearly every five star hotel in London and I’ve never come across such poor customer service. Full marks go to the team in the Palm Court. Brasserie Prince, you’ve got a lot of catching up to do before this disgruntled customer visits again!

We visited for dine and bar. Regarding dine, food was delicious, and service was attentive. Regarding bar, service was attentive, taste was excellent! And There is also non-alcoholic cocktail menu!

Booked as a surprise for my husband - we watched the series on TV and both loved it!Table was perfect. In the window. Very comfortable seating. Lovely atmosphere. Only two staff on that we would have considered competent and confident though - and they were rushed off their feet by the time we left.Charging £6.50 for a bottle of water was excessive (sorry, not mean, but did cause a second look at the bill). Food and presentation we considered first class - until we visited The Witchery!Crockery had seen better days. Comparing the butter dish to the dinner plates it was clear they’d been well used. Maybe a lunch next time. Dinner was lovely but whether value for money…….

My wife and I celebrated her 50th birthday at Brassiere Prince at the Balmoral Hotel. On arrival we were welcomed by very friendly staff who made us feel immediately relaxed. The booking had been made online and I had added a note asking to make it special. Shortly after taking our seats at a nice corner table by the window, two glasses of bubbly arrived. A nice touch. As for the food, excellent presentation and taste. For starters it was smoked salmon with capers and shallots and Isle of Mull scallops with pork belly. Mains were coronation chicken breast with basmati rice and fillet steak with hand cut chips and bearnaise sauce. To finish off we had profiteroles with strawberry, pistachio and vanilla ice cream, and a selection of cheese with oatcakes. All washed down with a various selection of fine wines and whisky. A fantastic meal and experience. We will definitely be back.

My starter of smoked salmon was delicious as was my main of Sea Bass. My husband’s scallops and steak main was also delicious. I chose the least expensive white wine which was recommended to go with the fish (£25 bottle). My hubby would recommend the Malbec if having steak. Amy & John looked after us so well during our meal. Afterwards we went to the hotel’s Whisky Bar. Hubby had a few Whisky’s recommended by the expert Cameron. I had cocktails (mojito & dacquiries). Needing a taxi home Abdenour, the concierge, managed to call the black cab company and we were transported home! All in all we had a fabulous evening in the most iconic hotel in Edinburgh. Last month we ate in their Number One restaurant - 8 courses and accompanying wines. A sublime experience. Go and enjoy. (Emma is their manager and is excellent).

We visited following the programme on TV recently on The Balmoral. The brassiere itself is part of the spectacular Balmoral Hotel and doesn’t disappoint in terms of appearances. We arrived 20 minutes early and were shown to a table in the bar for drinks which were served with real style. Sadly that’s where things started to go awry. At our reservation time we asked to go to our table, but despite a number of requests it took 25 minutes before we were finally shown through to the Brasserie itself. Our waiter was friendly, knowledgeable and attentive which was fantastic. However, when we ordered nuts and olives to arrive before starters, they actually arrived with the starters, which wasn’t ideal. On a busy Friday, the potato side dish wasn’t available, although there were two different sorts of frites / chips. It’s just a shame that they weren’t really suitable as a side for all dishes. The food itself was generally of a very high standard, even if it wasn’t massively hot when served, (perfectly cooked steak, warm chips and tepid sauce). Presentation varied wildly in standard between our four meals, ranging from excellent to basic. Drinks did take a while to arrive from the bar. Overall, all the ingredients were there for a truly memorable evening, they just weren’t quite brought together in a way that worked. We really hope that it’s just a case of a post-Covid lull before Brasserie Prince really hits the stride that it seems capable of.

Ruined wedding. I booked this place for my micro-wedding. They called me one day before to tell me they had to cancel it, because of covid purposes, though mentioned they were making an exception for guests staying at the hotel. The fact that they couldn’t make an exception for our wedding (8 people) and cancelled on us the day before is really appalling. Will not be recommending the Balmoral in future.

Nothing to dislike about this bar other than the price. Really comfortable and staff excellent. Good beers a small selection of good cocktails and great selection of gin etc. Defo one for a special occasion at £7.50 a pint. We knew in advance so surprise to us and we do like to finish off our evening here as it is a great place to chill

Great place for a drink and a quick snack

Had Dinner - Scallop starter was very good. Salmon main was a little dry and not particularly flavoursome - uninspired presentation. Steak - average again not particularly well presented. Profiteroles - chewy - ice cream alright - hot chocolate sauce - not hot. We asked for tap water on arrival - still waiting on being asked if we would like drinks with dinner. All in all not a great experience especially for a Hotel of the standard of the Balmoral but its all about opinions perhaps we have been to too many excellent Restaurants.

My sister took me, my husband and our little girl of 10 months here for a belated birthday dinner and where to start! The staff were welcoming and super friendly. They were professional and the environment was fantastic and don’t get me started on the food! I ordered the salmon and it was hands down the best salmon I’ve ever had. Our little girl started fussing and the staff were brilliant, honestly I hope we can go back next time we are in Edinburgh! The prices aren’t that bad if you want a really nice dinner.So a big thank you to the staff and the host who made sure that we had everything we needed.

I’ve always loved the Balmoral; the staff, style and food. This time was no exception.We nipped in en route to the Apple store and had a drink and a few quick bites (the Balmoral gin is really nice).I noticed they had foie on the burger but as I didn’t fancy the burger asked if we could have it as a stand alone. The staff were very friendly and nothing was too much bother. The foie, by the way, was lovely!Felt very safe covid wise in here and I loved the smell of the sanitiser as an add on.Another great experience which we are looking to make regular once more. Many thanks to all the staff who run this ship so well.

This is one of the nicest bars we’ve ever been to. We started in the scotch whiskey bar where they had some lovely suggestions. The managers went out of their way to make our time fantastic. We wanted to have a little bit to eat and they even allowed us to order from the restaurant menu. I got the steak and frites which was top class. Highly highly recommend.

Finally managed to redeem a voucher given as a present for Christmas 2019! Well done Balmoral for extending the deadline for use.The food was really tasty and I liked the atmosphere but the staff are what make it a special visit. They treat you like a ‘regular’ and try to make your visit special from start to finish. I love Palm Court Afternoon tea but lunch at Brasserie Prince is up there with that. As a coeliac I needed Gluten Free and had no problems selecting from the menu and had no issues after. Mind you, I wonder if they got GF bread from Palm Court for crouton could I get the French onion soup next time.....

Always beautiful at the Balmoral. Was a little difficult to get into (understandable), but it was worth it. Cocktails and service fabulous as ever.

Reservations are only for residents but Szemek willingly fitted us in on a hearteningly busy bank holiday Saturday evening. They know how it goes at the Balmoral and even the bar snacks are classy - beautifully presented and generous in size. Agostino looked after us very well and was a pleasure to talk to - we wish him well in his new role at the Fairmont in St Andrew’s. Cocktails are inventive (the White Russian makes a super light dessert) and the burgers are as good as they come. OK you pay for the experience but it’s great for a treat and real class speaks for itself.

A specia treat to have breakfast served so beautifully!We had breakfast here when staying elsewhere in Edinburgh, it was such a lovely menu and the choice is extensive. Fresh croissants and bread baskets, full Scottish breakfast with all you can eat, smoked samon and scrambled eggs, all superb.Fresh juices (reall fresh juice) and some lovely yoghurts and porridge.This was such a lovely relaxed breakfast, the service was superb and friendly. Go if you can to start your day in Edinburgh, you won't need lunch!

Adequate space between the tables. The staff were attentive but not overbearing. Food was good and well presented and the portions were about right given it was lunch. A bit pricey but would definitely go back.

This week, we enjoyed lunch at the Brasserie Prince to take advantage of their 'Dine Out To Help Out More' menu (a special menu they have running throughout September). We knew it would be a 3-course meal, however, what we didn't realise was that there would be 2 options per course to choose from. So, when we sat down and read the menu, the smartest option was to order both menu items from each course, so that we could have a taste of everything and avoid making the tough decision on what to have! The taste of each dish was amazing, exactly the quality you would expect from a restaurant within The Balmoral, but what we were most pleasantly surprised by during our dining experience was the portion size. Usually, high-end dining carries with it the stigma of small, unfilling plates, however, this could not be less the case with Brasserie Prince. When you consider that all 3 courses are only £20pp (normally £30pp), it's a steal! The service provided by each member of staff we encountered was impeccable, whether it was topping up our wine and water glasses in the restaurant, explaining parts of the menu to us that we weren't too sure about, or providing recommendations for drinks at the bar - we couldn't fault them and they most certainly made our trip even more memorable.

Attentive service, not cheap but you pay for quality.

No me gusta sentarme en una banqueta, ni siquiera con un cojín, para comer (las mesas son una mezcla de banquetas y sillas). La combinación de colores en la brasserie es bastante extraña.El bife de costilla y el salmón al horno eran excelentes. El plato de quesos franceses y escoceses fue decepcionante.

Had a lovely breakfast this morning, only downside was they brought my breakfast coral and main breakfast at the same time and when my breakfast came we realised that they had missed off a few items from her main breakfast, quality of the food though was really good.

My daughter and I love the Balmoral. The lovely people who work there are amazing and always make us feel like we've come home. Rooms, food, drinks, ambiance, everything is 1st class.

We went because it had an interesting menu and how glad we were that we had chosen it. My wife started with the fish soup and I with the snails. The soup was superb and packed with seafood. The snails were as good or better than any I have previously had. The main courses of Monkfish and Kidneys were equally good. We ordered single glasses of wine one white one red and were given both to taste before accepting them. The service was especially good being both attentive and relaxed. The price was competitive with any equivalent restaurant in Edinburgh. We would unreservedly recommend it.
