Bowfield Hotel & Country Club in Renfrewshire

Beautiful restaurant, food was first class and the staff were so pleasant. Really helpful and lovely with the children. Order the feather of beef, you won't be disappointed! Nicest I ever tasted.

This was our first time at The Plumpy Duck and at Bowfield Hotel. For dinner we ordered classic burgers, fajitas, chicken in whisky sauce, pan fried hake served on potato and chorizo stew, traditional steak pie, and 3 sides, seasonal veg, onion rings and fries. Sticky toffee pudding and biscotti cheese cake. There was 6 of us and no one had anything negative to say about the food. It was delicious and all dishes were beautifully presented. Even our sides were amazing, onions rings were so light, and how can carrots taste so good?! Dining out can be hit or miss as the standards are rarely consistent. I have to take my hat off to the chefs! The restaurant staff were all friendly and we were well looked after. I agree with some reviews that it was quite dark but we avoided using our phones to see our menus, so it couldn’t have been that bad lol. I disagree with reviews that it was over priced, we thought it was reasonably priced for food that tasted and looked great.

We ate at the Plumpy Duck whilw staying at Bowfield for our mini-moon. The restaurant had a lovely atmosphere, very friendly staff and delicious food. The duck main was particularly good.

Me and my partner of 30 years were celebrating our anniversary so opted for a bit of luxury…so we came last week for a lovely meal to the Pumpy Duck. We were served by the lovely Eilidh, with a bright smile indeed, I would highly recommend her servicing. We both opted for the Roast chicken which was delish!!! Would definitely order again! We then trotted through to the bar and were served by the delightful Calum who gave us excellent recommendations so I would love to get served by him again! ;) Overall, great service and fantastic food..would definitely visit again!

This is one of the best experiences I have ever had in a restaurant. The waiter called Jamie made it a very pleasant meal. Not only were we served delicious food but we were also told some fun things to do in the area that were very helpful.

Our prepaid voucher was valid for 1 year but we were asked for £2 to cover aprice increase? Really !!!??? Sandwiches unimaginative and cold from fridge. Cakes were tasty but again cold. Scones tasty. Staff very pleasant. A little thought could improve this afternoon tea and make it the treat it should be. Very sombre atmosphere - a little more light could also make the restaurant cheerier during the day. All easily fixed ?

We stayed over night at the hotel, food was amazing. My husband had the steak and myself the rigatoni, recommended 100%. Even if you aren’t staying overnight, get booked in to try the food It was like a 5* restaurant, great service 👏🏻

Had a lovely overnight stay, accommodation was nice, familiarise were excellent, staff were very attentive and friendl. Lee in the spa and Jamie Finlay restaurant really stood out. Lovely treatments from Lee and Jamie was super attentive and kept us entertained. Fabulous stay

Food and service appalling. Money has clearly been spent on interior decor, dinnerware and glassware, but Manorview have scrimped on food and staff quality. Place looks great, honestly, but the staff have a really bad attitude, the food is labelled well on menu but in reality is no better than average pub chain grub. Several empty glasses on the table, obvious empty bottle of wine but staff were not attentive at all. (Tips anyone?!) We were the only table in. Desert (choc tart) straight from fridge, so rock hard it was flying off my plate when attempting to eat. On to the bar for the last hour where if I’m being truthful, the female behind the bar ruined my experience. Her aggressive and defensive attitude was shocking. I asked for a negroni which although was not on the menu, a “festive Negroni” was. I was the charged 8.75 for basic Negroni in basic pub glass no garnish, nothing. I refused to pay this but was met with an aggressive and dismissive attitude again. Staff in the end were so detached that on paying the bill, did unwittingly not take full amount. Had to flag this up as did not want to appear dishonest. Have also experienced similar at previous visits and visit to Redhurst (also a Manorview) and don’t want to just complain for the sake of it, but this was the final straw for me. Genuinely so dissatisfied with my overall experience that I would seriously warn anyone off spending their hard earned money at this time of year and time of general hardship. Feel sorry for those paying memberships for a “country club” service as am aware of other similar stories.

Stayed here for the night and ended up dining here during our stay at the hotel. The night dinner and cocktails were absolutely amazing, recommend the fajitas and the onion rings are amazing!!! The staff were very good and when given a dirty glass went and got us some new ones straight away...... all wad great however fast forward to the morning!!! Breakfast selection was OK, I had a bowl of pineapple and watermelon with yoghurt and had to spit it out, it was soo warm and the pineapple tasted like if was off, had that funny taste.... weren't that fussed as was looking forward to the afternoon tea... oh my what a disappointment!!!! Ask to move table as sitting next to the kitchen door where staff come and go and the air con blowing straight at us.... got moved one up so didn't make a difference... and the food well the scones were flat, no fruit and too well done! The sandwiches were nice though!! I don't know if the cakes are fresh made or frozen but they were sticky and cold and not nice at all, we said that's got to be the first time we walked away from an afternoon tea... but really recommend having dinner here... x

We had the pie which was superb and substantial. It was full of nice meat and lots of gravy. No room for a dessert.

First time here with my family to celebrate my birthday. Order was taken but no mention of the special on the board - when asked, the waiter had to go and check it was available. He asked what we wanted to drink - without a drinks menu this was difficult so he had to go and get a drinks menu. After choosing, my daughter wanted to go to the soft play she’d seen so we spent a bit of time in there and when we came back the drinks had still not arrived! About 15 minutes had passed at this point. We had to ask a waitress cleaning a table to chase these and they arrived shortly after, followed almost immediately by our food. We noticed that other tables were automatically given a jug of water. We were not offered this. Food was lovely and very nicely presented. Despite the restaurant being pretty quiet, we felt a bit claustrophobic as customers were put on tables either side of us. The poor lovely young couple next to us had finished their starters before their drinks arrived. A waitress came over and asked the tables either side of us if everything was alright with their food - never asked us!! Ordered deserts and whilst enjoying my cheese plate the waitress cleared my wine glass whilst I was not looking and chatting to my daughter, despite the fact there was still some in it!Asked for the bill and sat and waited for her to come back with the card machine. And waited. And waited. We put our coats on. Still waited. Eventually my husband went over and paid. Overall we found the food lovely but the service very indifferent. The restaurant was quiet and there were lots of staff but we didn’t feel very welcome and as a result, we would not come back. Sorry!!

We went here to take up their offer of a free meal after my wife became ill on a previous visit. The free meal was reduced to a free main course. The food here is average and vastly overpriced. Surroundings and ambience were good as were the staff but, as I say, prices are way too high.

Family have always had a very nice evening at the bowfield hotel and plumpy duck restaurant. Very nice and relaxing ambiance .This visit Was the last friday of the month so restaurant had a singer this was very nice added that little xtra to our dinneing experiance .Chris our server was very attentive very polite .Food was very appealing to the eye as well as very enjoyable to the palette.Spoke to the chef luke a very polite young man has great culinary skills.Would definitely recommend .

This was a visit full of frustration from entering the premises! I asked at the reception where I order food and was told I had to order at bar. When I tried to order at bar I was told to order at restaurant. I then asked for a table for six and this resulted in a ten minute conversation between various members of staff before deciding to joint two tables together. I then asked if we could go to the soft play next door until the food came only to be told that one of us would have to wait at the table. When I asked if someone could come and get us at the soft play (about a ten second walk away) I was looked at as if I had horns before being reluctantly told that we could. Our drinks never arrived until well after our starters despite being ordered at same time and when they did come it was the completely wrong order! We ordered a side of skinny fries that never came and when we asked for them we were told they would be cooked and arrive later. When they did arrive they were the wrong chips!I do have to say that the food was generally very good but the terrible service has certainly put me off going back. It was a meal for my granddaughters birthday and would not recommend the restaurant to anyone for a special occasion

I always think the measure of a restaurant is by the quality of the food served to children and here Bowfield fell way short. After a long wait my son was served his pizza. It was made with the cheapest of ingredients. The pepperoni looked liked small squares of pink lint and tasted disgusting. The cheese was cheap and swimming in grease on the plate and the tomato was non existent. I commented to the waitress who looked a bit embarrassed. He ate two mouthfuls and left the rest. If we hadn’t just been for a swim we would have gone to one of the many other restaurants in the area. Will not be back.

Room was small and walls very thin you could hear everything from next door what they say and did, not great start to our night stay and the drinks are very expensive and small measures 1/5 Gill, and the food at night was horrible very greasy and also the breakfast, I will never visit this hotel again.

Quality of the food was very poor , warm bread and olives ... bread was cold as if not long out the freezer , mixed fish starter quality of prawns very poor , goujons were overcooked however the pate was lovely. At this point we were asked if we wanted desserts ! We asked our waitress when she brought our wine ( our first 3 choices were not available) I pointed out that we noticed there were specials of duck and that we weren’t made aware of this her retort was it states there is a special on the menu , and no to my request of changing my main course as she had already told the chef my order ( although this could not have been more than 5/6 minutes) our main course of sea bass arrived on a mountain of risotto which was swimming in oil and butter and was inedible , when clearing the plates 3 of which were virtually untouched she ignored the fact that 3 of the 4 dishes hadn’t been eaten , when our desserts arrived the presentation of the apple tart was dreadful, it looked as if it had been dropped onto the plate from a height the base was still raw and inedible, overall a very poor dining experience

Stayed at the bowhouse for a wedding and breakfast at the plumpy duck was included. Hot and cold Buffet style breakfast with fresh fruit yogurts and wee mini pastries.

Excellent choice of food and very tasty. Very friendly service, did not feel rushed at all. Very relaxed atmosphere would definitely be back for dinner or lunch.

Out for dinner last night at The Plumpy Duck. Had a lovely meal, house special of duck was cooked to perfection. Husband had the vegetarian linguine which he really enjoyed too. I don't usually have a sweet, but last night I decided on the panacotta which it said came with a raspberry jelly and mint. No raspberry jelly or mint, instead berries. All lovely, except, presentation, wally bowl, really chef ! Bit of a let down there.

So I usually really enjoy the food here, I come often. Only one week previously I had a lovely roast beef dinner. Sunday 15th September at lunch time I took my parents and disappointingly the food was bad! Whoever your chef was that day need some retraining! My salt and chilli chicken was more burnt than usual, didn’t feel as good quality and a smaller quantity than normal. The fish and chips were cold, the fish being the smallest portion (even though still full price from the menu) and the chips looks dark. I think maybe the oil in the fryer needed changing (I used to work in fast food and know this can turn the food darker and give it a burnt appearance. The deserts were good and staff good as usual. Just don’t know what was going on that day, my parents don’t want to go back because of the experience.

We really enjoyed a range of dishes that were delicious and met the needs of all our family. A relaxed setting and lovely ambience.

Met up with a friend for a bite to eat. Many years since I had last been there, what a change. Beautiful decor, beautiful food. The sea bass, harrisa sauce with new potatoes and prawns was simply delightful. Will definitely be back soon.

The good food, tho limited menu; the improved service made up for the lack of choice of whiskies available: my whiskey drinking friend was less than impressed.

My friend reserved afternoon tea here for us and we were delighted when we saw the beautiful settings. We were promptly shown through to our table and presented with tea, orange juice and fizz which was amazing. The cakes and sandwiches were exceptional quality and varied. We would highly recommend a visit and there is also a spa within the Bowfield which we will need to look into.

Just been to the plumpy duck for dinner..staff very attentive meal was lovely cauliflower fritters to start and chicken burger for the main hubby had the soup and then fish and chips all round very enjoyable

Had a wonderful pre wedding afternoon tea at the bowfield for my friend. The service was excellent and the food was awesome, they made a wonderful vegan selection for the bride to be ( which we ordered ahead of time) and catered for a fussy member of our party (me) with the sandwiches. We will definitely be back for another great day soon x

This is my 2nd time going for afternoon tea at The Plumpy Duck. Again it did not disappoint. The service was wonderful, staff were really friendly and the kitchen were super knowledgeable about vegan eating. The afternoon tea itself was delicious with lots of gorgeous sandwiches and loads of sweet treats. Absolutely perfect portion size as we had a little to take home too!

The service and presentation of food was fabulous. I love my food piping hot and the plumpy duck certainly delivered! Definitely another time...

My husband and I recently had afternoon tea in this restaurant, and whilst the actual food itself was quite nice, many other aspects of the experience were not as good.

This is a friendly restaurant with good service. Good selection of food all well presented. Well worth the visit.

Food was fantastic as was the service - can't fault it! The set menu had plenty of options - every dish had it's own signature. Cooked to perfection!

Food was slow coming out of the kitchen and was average- breakfast was chaotic during peak times with a lack of seating & the buffet ran out of food before being replenished.

Visited this restaurant with family. Very slow service to start with re: ordering food and drinks however we were happy to wait as the restaurant is very comfortable. Kids ordered the make your own pizza option (margarita pizza) which comprises of a hard pizza base a small pot of tomato sauce and a small pot of grated cheddar cheese the idea being the child build it and it is then taken away and cooked. The pizzas were brought back 10 minutes later - the cheese certainly melted on top but the bases were hard and uncooked to a point where they could not be eaten by the children. We asked for alternatives e.g. Chicken goujons and sausage mash with gravy. No sausage available therefore the wee one opted for mash and gravy. The chicken goujons turned out to be fish goujons which was puzzling as these were not even on the menu and we were not told the chicken was fish until the wee one mentioned it ! Three of us ordered steak pie which was ok other than the pastry looked uncooked it was still 'pale and pasty' . Three kiddies deserts ordered plus two adult deserts. The 'marshmallows' on the kids deserts were solid like small stones, we therefore asked for fruit sauce instead. I ordered poached pear dipped in chocolate + ice cream - the pear was solid! That had never been poached in it's life! The waitress did her best but really someone from the kitchen should and could have spoken to us. Anyway along comes the bill and we have been charged for the pizzas we sent back and the sausage we never got. The waitress apparently spoke to the chef and to the manager who offered to take 55p yes 55p off of the total bill of £137!!!!!!!!! We pursued this further but still no movement. Perhaps the kitchen was having and off night, perhaps the chef was new? Someone should have come out and apologised to us - we would have been happy with an explanation but 55p off of the total bill was a slap in the face. Would we go back ????????? Silly question NEVER AGAIN!

My daughter and I had been looking forward to this for a while as I had promised her we would have it as a treat to ourselves. My main issue is with the food and the fact that the price which was £32 included a glass of Prosecco which I could not have because I was driving. Why not have a price minus alcohol as the offer of a soft drink instead really doesn’t match up in terms of value. The other issue was with the plates which are on the cake stand, as the girl brought our stand to the table because the plates are not suited for the stand as we found out all 3 plates came sliding off the stand and on to our table. The waitresses were very apologetic and did offer to get new cakes but we sorted it all back onto the plates. The sandwiches were cut into long slices and the sandwiches on the outside were dry and hard so I spoke to the waitress and she took them away, they were then replaced with fuller sandwiches and the bread was alot softer this time. Onto the cakes, I am not exactly Mary Berry but even I could have baked more flavoursome cakes than was presented on the stand the selection included 2 different looking small squares of brownies, pretty tasteless, 1 small square of what looked like an Oreo cheesecake bite and 2 small macaroons. At the top of the stand there were 2 scones, on first inspection they looked lovely and were warm, they had obviously been microwaved or similar as they had that distinctive chew in the middle which comes from a cake not quite fresh. All in all a very poor Afternoon tea and I have tried a few over the years. Would definitely not recommend unless they had a huge overhaul and came up with a better selection of cakes and plates which actually fit the stands to save the embarrassment for the waitresses of them sliding off the stands as they put them down. The only redeeming feature this afternoon was the tea, it was lovely and hot and tasty.

Eaten here a few times. Food is always excellent although the service can be slow. Think that's due to bad organisation rather than the servers themselves who are always polite and helpful.

As a member of Bowfield Country Club I decided to book a table for dinner for friends at Plumby Duck. We arrived at 18.45 for our 19.00hr booking. When we arrived we asked for a taxi for 21.45 to take us home (local -less than 5 miles).

Meal very nice dessert dried up tart asked to leave at 930 as restaurant was closing as did bar had to sit in reception until 11 pm until booked taxi came if we had known in advance we would have been prepared disappointed with this spoiled a lovely family night x

I visited the Bowfield Hotel restaurant, now known as The Plumpy Duck for the 2nd time to take a friend out for a birthday lunch. The restaurant is now in the old games room which is smaller and has lower ceilings than the room it was in last time we visited. I was disappointed as I rather liked the barn conversion type room with its roaring fire that used to serve as the restaurant. However, the food was great as ever. I had the all day veggie breakfast with veggie haggis, tomato, tattie scones and fried eggs. My friend who is on a gluten free diet had the chilli with tortillas and had no complaints. One thing that was very off- putting was people wandering in and out wearing only dressing gowns as they had been in the spa rooms. I think there should be a rule that requires people to put their clothes back on if they are going to eat in the restaurant. I don't want to see bare feet and hairy legs when I am eating.

Had afternoon tea here. It was lovely, surroundings were great. Christmas tree up. Lovely helpful staff. We sat for ages nobody rushed us. Would definitely go back.

Visited this restaurant for lunch twice within 3 days. Slow, inexperienced, Inattentive service was overriding impression. Starts with waiting at door to be noticed for excessive length of time in what was a virtually empty restaurant both times.Then you wait for staff to input into computer. Why not do that after sitting customers? First time ended up with staff later sitting only other customers on tables next to us, we had to move as volume of voices on next tables so intrusive. Staff slow to take drink orders both times which then took ages to arrive, even slower to take food orders. The wait for the food to arrive was unacceptable, about an hour from arrival the first time. Wrong items delivered, fried eggs instead of scrambled, garden peas not mushy peas, and vegetarian breakfast only lukewarm. We had to search for condiments from other table and go to bar and collect ordered water and glasses ourselves. No one came back to check all was well, and there were no staff to be seen to ask for anything. On first visit member of management working in a corner rescued us twice taking dessert order and delivering it. On both visited the 8 year old child was served last?? How basic is that in training? I've no idea if the kitchen is understaffed as it seems to provide food for other parts of hotel eg spa , as food did get rushed out the door several times by unknown staff. This restaurant needs someone responsible for overseeing service and a huge improvement in quality of service as well as delivery of the actual food.

Stayed in the Lynnhurst Hotel which is part of the same group and was advised to come here for food due to a large party in the hotel. At first I was slightly frustrated but one the food arrived I was very happy. Ordered the “Supreme of Chicken with Haggis, Neaps and Tatties” truly lovely with delicate tastes. The whole experience was excellent with great service and a very relaxing atmosphere. No phone signal but free Wi-fi certainly makes up for it.

Visited the evening before the wedding reception it was MEGA GREAT FANTASTIC a menu and is really GD GREAT FANTASTIC QUALITY food's AM/ breakfast or PM evening meal. REALLY GD for special occasions.

I have not been for dinner here for several months, however turned up and was greeted by the most charming , polite girl, Aimme. She was quite happy to talk to us, help us through our choices and smiled the whole time, top class service. well done, will be back again and again

Four friends for lunch. Waited ages for our drinks order to be fulfilled. Basic menu, nothing special. Undercooked chips. Gluten free items offered. Slow service.

We had a family meal here for my birthday. First time since the refurb and name change. Restaurant looks great and is very comfortable and stylish. Nice atmosphere.

The menu has a lot of pub classics on it however also has pasta, and green curry which I felt cheapened the menu. Staff made no recommendations for food or wine and were very poor at checking on us, clearing the table and generally looking after us. To justify those prices the service has to be on point. Food was a 5/10.

This place came recommend by a friend and via facebook comments. Had a really nice lunch the restaurant was very quiet but the staff were so attentive and pleasant. Our family meal exceeded our expectations as the menu was full and diverse a great afternoon was had by all ! Throughly recommend this place

Me and my partner were considering booking our wedding here so decided to try out the restaurant. Food was 5 star! We mentioned about the wedding to our waitress Megan who then took us to show us a wedding being set up the next day. Appreciated going that extra mile and has confirmed the venue for us

I had the venison and my husband had the steak, both were very good. Would visit again with family. A nice setting with friendly helpful staff

While staying at the Bowfield Hotel recently, we utilised the Plumpy Duck restaurant for breakfast only. This restaurant is a new addition to the hotel after having a complete refit.

Stayed here recently and ate at the PD. Staff are friendly and attentive. Good menu choice offering a good and wide range of options

It is a good menu. plenty to chose from. even for picky eaters. black pudding gateau for starter was good. The steak pie was large portion. big piece of puff pastry. meat was tender with loads of gravy. finished my meal with a nice bit of sticky toffee pudding. hand a full breakfast in the morning. I would recommend going for food. service was great too. I will be returning

We stayed at the hotel for a girls spa weekend last weekend and had a wonderful time. The venue is cosy and perfect for a night away. We dined for lunch after our spa treatments and even in our dressing gowns felt right at home, the service we received was excellent. I can't remember the waitresses name at lunchtime but she was fantastic and ordered me another soup as I'm allergic to mushrooms and it was the only one they had. We then dined for our evening meal and met Ruth, poor girl a table of 7 chatty girls drinking prosecco isn't easy to manage and she laughed along with us and nothing was too much trouble.. She was also our waitress for breakfast and was genuinely lovely.The food was delicious and came out really quickly, nothing was too much trouble. The bar staff we're friendly and we had a great time. Highly recommended - we'll back next year.
