Borge in Stockton-on-Tees

I would recommend this place for pre-show eats in Stockton. The manager double checked we were going to the show and made sure we served quickly. Food was good, friendly and efficient service!

Fantastic food and service as always The king prawns are amazing and the tiramisu is home made A great wine selection the house wines are of good quality.

Came this evening for a works do, it was spot on, beautiful food, excellent service. Have to say a huge thanks to Will, who was serving upstairs. What a credit to your business he is, excellent customer service, was attentive and incredibly professional.

Visiting from out of town and had this place recommended and visited with my Daughter. We had the chicken parmo which was excellent and a very generous portion. Staff were warm and attentive and a lovely log fire added atmosphere too.

I hired the function room for my daughter’s 18th in September. The rooms lovely and the staff are fantastic!! They made sure I had full access to the room all day to come and go putting up decorations. They have their own DJ which was not only easier than finding our own but also very reasonably priced! The bar staff are very friendly and polite, chatting to guests and making sure my daughter enjoyed her night. We had the option of providing our own food or the restaurant supplying it. We chose to supply our own due to having a fussy family, but I’ve eaten in the restaurant several times and the food is amazing! As the night was drawing to a close I started tidying away the left over food and empty plates when one of the staff members said that they would deal with it all for me so I could go back and enjoy the rest of the night. I showed them what I would like to keep and they had it all packed away for me just to collect the next day! I will definitely be using the room again in the future! Everyone I dealt with was friendly and couldn’t do enough for me. The room was clean and all the staff were brilliant. My daughter would also like to add that that the staff are really nice and a really good DJ. Thankyou all for an amazing night

I love this restaurant and hadn't visited for a while so didn't know what to expect but I really should not have had any concern . From the moment we walked in we were treated like missed friends . The owner is a delight, the staff wonderful and our food amazing. The parmo was eaten with gusto by my 13 year old and my pasta to die for . The restaurant was buzzing with friends , families and couples all enjoying the atmosphere, drinks and choice of dishes . We sat near the kitchen and the team there are like a machine, working together, making pizzas and always smiling 😁 honest I have missed my evenings here and won't stay away this long again . Make sure if your in Stockton you don't miss out . Thank you x

Had a function here recently, was not totally happy with the service we received. The staff were very hit and miss with the attitude and almost every one present commented on this. The vibe we were given was not at all nice and it did in fact spoil the night. People who could legally drink were questioned as if they were doing something wrong but then later served with several drinks. It was brought to our attention at the end of the night that bottles of alcohol had been consumed off the premises on the road in front and this was brought to us as an accusation even though there were several members of the public in a drunk manner (due to the area) in front of the room that were not involved with the party. Would not recommend having a function here, did not feel welcomed at all.

This is my absolute favourite restaurant, the whole experience is absolutely faultless every single time we visit, piping hot food, excellent fast service, and a lovely warm welcome from the owner who is a lovely man. The food is delicious and there is something on the menu for everyone. Their garlic bread is the best I've ever tasted - they seem to confit their garlic and spread the actual cloves on the bread and it's amazing. Their parmos are beautiful, and the home made chips are absolutely next level. I can't recommend this place highly enough, definitely worth a visit!

Came here for a big birthday meal with lots of family. Food was great but service was shocking! Inexperienced staff (all young girls) who clearly don’t enjoy their job. All looked as if they were chewing a wasp! They ruined the end of our evening with their disgusting attitudes because we decided to order more drinks after our meal! Slouching on the till, huffing and tutting and rushing to cash the till up to prevent us ordering more drinks. Tried having a laugh with them but they continued with their hissy fits. Pathetic. Will absolutely not be returning unless you start employing people who have a bit more about them!

1st time at Borge went for my daughter’s birthday staff couldn’t do enough for us and food was amazing would highly recommend a visit will definitely eat there again .

We've been visiting Borges for over 20 years for meals out with the family, but haven't visited in a couple of years since before covid. The restaurant looks exactly the same! and the menu still contained old favourites - the meat kebabs which are served with a sparkler. The menu is huge with LOTS of choice. There is a very small cocktail menu, which could be improved upon. A meal for 9 adults came to nearly £300! I think we ordered 5 starters to share and 5 desserts to share, plus maybe 7-8 alcoholic drinks plus a couple of soft drinks and a couple of coffees, so not bad value. Main meals were all around £15 each I think. For spending so much money, and possibly because we never eat out anymore, I expected something more somehow. The restaurant is very small so you always feel a bit squashed in as it is always busy, luckily this time we were up against the wall in the corner so had space to move around the high chair and for our big baby bag etc. Unfortunately the changing facilities aren't great, standard in that it's basically just the bare minimum of a changing table attached to the wall. But poor in that the changing table is in the women's toilets so not sure how single dad would make this work? Plus you're hemmed in by the large sink on one side and then a loud hand dryer at the foot of the table so every time you move you set off the loud dryer which upsets the baby even more! There's nowhere to put your bag while you're changing baby so you can grab clean clothes, more wipes etc, so I put my bag in the sink - big mistake! as did not realise tap is automatic so basically my bag was soaked through my the time I realised, so much for clean clothes to change baby into!! this is our first kid and this isn't something I would ever have given a second's thought to before, but Borge could and should really do better here. We all enjoyed our meals and our drinks, service was friendly and fast, offering more drinks but not being intrusive. For me, because of the poor changing room facilities (and an upset baby with an upset belly) this put a dampener on our evening and spoilt the whole experience for my husband and I, who were stressed by the upset baby. We had to leave early so we could change the baby properly and left the rest of the family to enjoy leisurely coffees and desserts.

This is the first time I have been away with my husband since he had a lower limb leg amputation.The staf were so helpful and went out of their way to assist us in getting into the restaurant and we're so friendly and helpful until we left. The food was great, very tasty and hot 👍 I would totally recommend this place to Others, especially if you are going to see a show afterwards, the Arc is just a short walk or rather a push away. The food is lovely but we have not been for a couple of years due to staff constantly trying to get you out as quickly as possible once you have eaten we like to relax and chat after food but we were asked 3 times if we wanted more drinks it becomes really uncomfortable and the restaurant was quiet anyway ! We will stick with carpaccios from now on who do not torture you to leave no matter how busy they are….

I would describe Borge as cheap and cheerful, which I don’t want to sound too negative. The restaurant atmosphere is very nice, and the staff are very friendly with fast service. The food was fine, but nothing special. Given the price is very reasonable, you don’t mind overall, but I wouldn’t say this is a place for special occasions. It was great for what we needed which was a quick bite to eat before visiting the Globe Theatre.

5 out of 5 Great food, warm and friendly staff, cozy environment. Pitza, pasta and chicken Cesar salad were brilliant. Price was reasonable. Great location for people who don’t drive. I will definitely go to the restaurant again.

Table wasn’t cleaned for us sitting down, the waiting staff came and cleaned the table however under the table was spilt sauce what the other customers had left and what hadn’t been cleaned up, we were asked if we would like to order drinks before...

We have just had a surprise 30th birthday in the function room and I couldn’t recommend the venue more. The staff were so helpful, from letting us set up earlier all through the night!

Takeaway parmo. Food only just warm. Cheese on top not melted properly. Chips tasted like they’d been hanging around for a while. Nothing about it tasted fresh. Definitely won’t recommend or use again.

We have been going to Borges for many years. We were so looking forward to going tonight. It was such a let down. The high chair we got wasn't very clean, then there were cobwebs behind where i was sitting. The food was very poor. Chips were greasy, tagliatelle was tasteless. We left and they did take the tagliatelle off the bill but i still paid 21 pounds for the chips and garlic bread, drinks and some ice cream for the baby. I was going to book my 60th birthday meal there but certainly won't now.

Been coming to Borge for years and my friend who is a fussy eater was very impressed. Garlic bread and pizza is amazing. My boyfriend always orders the pork parmos as he thinks they are the best in the area. The wine selection is also excellent especially the Merlot.

Wow. I honestly don’t know where all the praise for this place comes from. We got a selection of starters and mains to take out and it felt like £50 down the drain. For starters we got garlic bread, fried squid (as it’s listed which is just calamari) and anti pasto for two. Well, because it was listed as fried squid I expected pieces of fried squid not just calamari, which should definitely be reflected on the menu. The calamari, was over cooked and it was so hard I honestly could of put a window through with it, it lacked taste and you could have easily passed it for something you’d buy frozen from a supermarket. The garlic bread tasted nice but it was stone cold. The anti pasto, the meat was bland and quite dry, the bread that came with it was stale. For mains we got the mixed kebab, Borges pasta special and a lasagne. The mixed kebab came with roast potatoes, the kebab lacked any sort of flavour and came with 6 very small pieces of meat, the chicken was bland and quite grisly and the lamb, was over cooked and was as tough as leather, we couldn’t even eat the lamb pieces they were that bad. The roast potatoes are not roast potatoes, they resemble a baby potatoes that was been cut in half and fried to give them some crispness. Maybe someone should tell your chefs you need to par boil your potatoes first, as they were solid not fluffy how you expect roast potatoes to be. The lasagna was a mess and looked like it had been dropped on the floor, it contained very little meat content and I don’t think it had any form of white sauce in it, it was full of veg and it has pieces of lasagne sheet not even a full bit. There was also no topping to it, only something that resembled a tin of chopped tomatoes. The Borges Special, well if that’s what you call special, then expect to be disappointed. It some penne pasta, with big pieces of mushroom a few scraps of mince and a bland sauce. Definitely wouldn’t use again and if you like good quality food, then I’d recommend looking for somewhere else.

My husband and I have been coming to Borges for 25 years now. The food and wine are great and the staff are very welcoming. We really missed this place in lockdown. Good to be back. Xx

We dined here this evening. Very COVID safe. We have been visiting here for years and the standards are very high. Very reasonable prices for food and drink. If you sit near the kitchen you can see the pizzas being stretched and made by hand. Great service and good. I had the mixed kebab, the Patmos are ace.

Ordered 6 meals tonight. Pizza, pastas and kebabs. Totally amazing! Ate in many times, first takeaway from Borge tonight. Would highly recommend.

We have never been to this restaurant before but I have had lots of parmos in my time. Ordered a pork parmo from the take away menu for 6.45pm.I got there at 6.40 it was quiet and my order was ready and waiting. It took me 15 mins to drive home on opening the boxes everything inside was dripping in condensation .As for the pork parmo it was like trying to eat the sole of my shoe it was that chewy, I could not taste the cheese either The chips were soft and soggy and tasteless I definitely think this had been made up and put in the box long before I got there.The good point was the salad was very nice I hope this was a one off

I can't put into words how impressed we were with Borge Ristorante. We had heard good reviews during our short trip to Stockton. It didn't disappoint. The choice, taste and presentation was amazingly awesome.Because we went on a Friday my choice was limited. That's one day I don't eat meat. However, the fish and vegetarian options were very good. I had a Mushroom Pizza, my wife chose a mixed kebab (which came up on sparkling skewer), my son tucked into Parmesan Chicken (apparently, Borge's signature dish and would have been my choice, on any other day) and my daughter-in-law enjoyed Vegetable Fajitas.The desserts were absolutely phenomenal. I had the Whole Lemon Sorbet. It was a wonderful way to cleanse my palete and conclude a first class meal.

Visited here late on a Saturday evening and we were lucky to be able to get a table at short notice. We've visited here many times in the past and had great parmos however i often go for the 'Pollo Picante' and decided to again.. It did not disappoint either! Extremely tasty and plenty of extra chillies as requested!Easily one of the best restaurants in the area and also great value. Highly recommended. Always great service.

Always a favourite for a parmesan but don't bother with the Borge style fajita. A bowl full of messy enchilada mix with bread that disintegrates into the dish served on a bed of salad which is warm under the dish and mixes with the sauce. Disappointing visit tonight.

Me and my wife came here on Friday night got the battered squid & garlic mushrooms for starters my wife then got a chicken kebab with rice and said it was lovely I got the lasagna Alfonso it was out of this world our waiter WILL was excellent everything we needed was no trouble to him at all and made our visit very pleasant thank you very much

Husband had a parmo, he liked it but didn't taste any better than we make at home (sorry!!)My eldest had chicken kebab with rice, the sparkler on it was a great touch she loved it. (She had the best meal out the 4 of us.)I had Tagliatelle Pastaceria I couldn't eat more than half a dozen fork fulls the white wine & mustard flavour was too overpowering for me & my youngest had spaghetti bolognese (it was ok) and a very greasy garlic bread. Although service was nice and quick and staff were lovely we unfortunately won't be returning here.

The food is amazing. I nearly always get a fillet steak which is always mouthwatering and tender. My partner rates the parmos as the best he's ever had and they consistently win awards for such.

As part of the Eat Out to Helo Out we returned as a family to a restuarant we frequented over the years. The pizzas were as tasty as they've always been. One of the best pizza doughs around. The service is quick and as ever very friendly service makes for a pleasant eating experience. The House White a Pinot Grigio from Puglia is excellent and great value for money. All in all a pleasant evening. Needlees to say will be back regardless of the eat out to help out scheme.

Had a meal here after a recommend from my Nephew and all I can say is what a recommend. The greeting received was superb and the place itself reminded me of my in Italy. The service was great and perfect timing for food. The menu was great and the choices caters for everyone. And the cost was great price considering the portions and quality of the food. Been visiting Borges for 30 years now may only get in once or twice a year but the food is now disappointment. Used to be delicious but now food is mediocre pizza base too thin and burnt edges and pasta was to spicy with very little meat a disappointment. The staff were attentive given the place was full but I'm afraid it's the food that has provided this low score. This was our 2nd visit in last 8 months our previous visit wasn't much better again I would have scored it 3. Sorry borge you were once my go to - recommend restaurant.

Despite living in Stockton for 30 years I’d never actually been to Borge and I’m not entirely sure what the fuss is. It’s a cramped little restaurant that’s way too hot! We ordered a chicken Parmesan which was great to be fair, but my carbonara was terrible. The tomato garlic bread was tough and chewy and our drinks order was wrong twice. I’m probably not going to go back but I suggest putting more effort into the surroundings and other foods on the menu other than just the Parmesan.

On arrival there appeared to have no record of our booking which I had placed days before. The man that greeted us at the door had to to look for a table as nothing appeared to be reserved. Once seated we were given menues and ordered drinks. Before we even got our drinks we had a member of staff at our table asking for our order in which we hadn't had chance to look through the menu, We kept getting someone at the table every couple of minutes asking if we were ready to order not giving us time to enjoy our drinks and look at the menue properly.We ordered our starters which was lovely and we couldn't fault anything about them, but we had literally just finished our starters as 1 girl came to take the plates away another girl was right behind her with our main meals we didn't even get chance to sit and let the starter settle as the next course was pushed on us, my wife ordered the so called award winning pork parmo the pork wasnt cooked probley and very chewy there was too much bechamel sauce The borge special pasta seriously was not special infact it looked as if it was microwaved. At no point did anyone do a check back on our table. Once we finished our desserts the bill was brought straight over to our table we didn't ask for it they took it upon them self to bring it across to us. We didn't get asked if we would like another drink let alone be asked if we'd like a cup of tea or coffee after our meal, While finishing our alcohol off we could see 1 member of staff looking over at our table and whispering to another girl we got the impression they just wanted us to hurry up, drink up and leave, a few times they even came close to the table to see how much drink was left in our glasses we just felt so uncomfortable and made to feel that they just wanted rid of us to be able to set the table for sum one else in the end we left our drinks paid the bill and walked out, this was our first time at borge and it'll definitely be the last time After 28 years working in hospitality this is without a doubt the worst service we have seen.

Food was good, hot and piping with plenty of portion. I normally get the parmos which are really filling and enjoy every time.

Never disappoints a visit to Borges and this trip was no different. A great setting and friendly atmosphere coupled with the best Parmo around.

We find here at messy once a months, Sunday January 5th was the last time. We didn’t bookA table and on arriving I thought we may get turned away but they managed to fit us in. The food arrived quickly and was good quality. I had the Penne Chicken which was good. Borge is always consistently good

Pre-theatre meal, it is sometime since coming here, better than ever! Food, caring service everything great, pizzas sooo thin and crispy delicious. Will be back!

I came with my friends for a post Christmas get together and ordered an American burger as it sounded tasty. It came and I looked for the pulled pork. Lifting up the bun to find about 6 pieces of dry fatty unseasoned pork. I thought nothing of it and bit into my meal. The burger was extremely dry and tasted of nothing, it was burnt to crisp and sounded hollow when I hit it with my knife. Overall not nice sort it out please

Ordered lasagna, came with no cheese, asked for cheese and it came back like this, with no knife and fork. It's a good job they have an award for the parmesan because the rest of the food was bland and not worth the price. Dry garlic bread too. Parmesan was the only redeeming thing but could go to Caruso's for a nicer/cheaper one.

Known this restaurant has been there for as long as I can remember. Yet I have never visited, however a world parmo championship win made me sit up and ask why?

We visited Borge on Saturday 8th December with a booking. Very busy but we were shown to a table straight away. There is a lot of tables in the restaurant with a bar in one corner and a live open kitchen cooking station in the opposite corner. I was expecting quite a wait but our drinks order was taken after a few minutes and they arrived quickly and we were soon invited to order. Borge describes itself as an Italian restaurant but the menu is very varied. I know they have recently won an award for there ’Parmos’ the legendary local cuisine. The prices of both the food and drink is very reasonable.

the parmos are the best and everything i had was beautiful especially the deserts i would reccomend going again they have such polite customers

We've been here a few times now and find that with kids that there is something for everyone and that the early bird menu is fantastic value.

Been a few times now and every time I’ve been there’s never any problems. Can never fault the food. Staff are always so friendly and welcoming and are on hand with any questions or queries. Certainly won’t be the last time.

As a fairly regular customer, I can thoroughly recommend this great little Italian restaurant. Always busy, but the staff are very efficient. The menu is what you would expect from an Italian restaurant and all meals I and friends have had have been enjoyed. The atmosphere is invariably friendly with everyone else also appearing to be enjoying their meals and company.

Visit on a regular basis, never disappoint. Great value great service! Always feel super welcome. Love the food!

We return to this friendly cosy value for money restaurant time and time again. The food is delicious and always freshly made, the owner and staff are always friendly and attentive and it's not over priced. They do happy 2 hours every day and it has never let us down. Thanks everyone

Meal out with friends and a first visit here in years. Service was good and pleasant and you can’t argue with the prices. On a Sunday the happy hour is £10 for two courses and drinks prices are reasonable for alcohol in restaurants.

We have Used borge consistently for the last few years always great food and fair prices, staff always welcoming and polite, overall a great little restaurant.

OK, so, following other reviews on the GF selection available her. Have to say it is most of the menu. However, if you are looking for something a little different. This may not be the place for you. Pizza, pasta, burgers, fajita, chilli, spag bol and steaks is what they do. They do it extremely well and at a very reasonable price. We had a nice meal and the staff were very friendly and helpful. The loo's were a disgrace however. All in all. You get what you pay for and you can eat a good selection of Gluten free food, which is on the large portion size without the worry of being unwell later.

We went for a family birthday meal and Borge really fits the bill. The early bird menu is great value and as a coeliac there is loads of choice for me!

Visited after being told a out the quality of the local 'parmo' dish here. We were not disappointed. Also possibly first time i have seen banana split on a menu since the 80's?! - it had to be done and brought back many memories !! Efficient and friendly service.

Visited Borge after a long absence, the drinks are good value which is unusual in many restaurants. The service was excellent even on a busy night. My hubby and grandchildren loved their pizzas which a £7 each is great vfm. I had the kebab which was lovely however the accompanying salad was very disappointing and the chips didn’t have much flavour.

Booked a table for 10 to celebrate my wifes birthday. We were all made welcome with a cosy table in corner reserved. Waitress nice and friendly and brought us drinks and then took our order...no waiting, within 10 minutes our food arrived,excellent no complaints... Lovely atmosphere and all went home happy.

I remember when I lived in the area about 15 years ago that I used to enjoy going here. I visited again last week when I was back in the area, and it was as good as I remember, if not better.

Dropped in here one evening recently without a reservation and were lucky to get seated straightaway. Borges is a go to place in Stockton for good food at great prices. The banana split is a must each time I visit.

Borge normally never fails to deliver service and quality at a (very) reasonable price. Was tonight was an exception? Yes. It was busy (happy hour) and whilst some dishes (lasagne and parmo) were good the calzone was poor. Perhaps it was that there is little pre prep in a pizza. I am sure that such an aberration us only temporary. Let’s hope so

Awful food everything is frozen, greasy chips with no potato 😂 I visited here after reading “it’s the best parmo in the north east” might as well go to wheatherspoons it’s cheaper with the same frozen crap

Used to go here regular back in the 80s and 90s but not been in a long time but it's just as good as I remember it.

Was there last night, busy as usual. Food great, tasty and worth the visit. Advise you to reserve a table or you will wait.

Booked for an early dinner before going to see a band. Nice atmosphere and friendly staff. Ordered fajitas. The food that arrived was served in a bowl. The wrap was on the bottom, undercooked veg piled on top, swimming in tomato ragu. Never seen anything like it. Pointed this out to our waiter. Couldn't eat any of this. Thankfully, they didn't even try to charge us for it.

Been here a couple of times now and it's nice to be able to get something both veggie and gluten free at a mainstream restaurant. The food is great value and definitely doesn't break the bank!
