Boojum in Belfast

I've been ordering at Boojum religiously since 2010 (including an extended period of eating them twice a week for my lunch), and would have always sung its praises to anyone who would listen. It was always a real pleasure of an occasion, eating a Boojum bowl, day or night. I've eaten them in their hundreds over the past decade.But there cannot be any doubt, in my mind, that as prices have shot up, quality and consistency has dropped, and dropped sharply. Where once you didn't mind at all paying the prices because the portions were tasty and generous, it seems over the past 18 months or so a penny-pinching malaise has taken permanent root.Whether it's the toss-up of getting a decent portion or a half-filled bowl for your £9, or the order being wrong when Deliveroo bring it, or having to beg for more than a teaspoon of guacamole, or clearly seeing that the pulled pork portion is laughable when you pull back the lid, you really get the clear impression it is no longer about the food and experience anymore. It's about firing food out as fast as you can, and quality control being an afterthought. I don't just apply this to the Chichester Street branch, the Botanic branch has gone the same way.I don't have the heart to give Boojum a "poor" score overall, given the history of wonderful meals i've had. And you may go there and get the biggest, best bowl of your life. But i can no longer openly recommend it, not with the inconsistencies and price point.

The queue was out of the door when we arrived here for a quick lunch but wowww - it was worth it. I'll definitely recommend Boojum to my friends who visit Belfast. The staff were really friendly and the burritos were just... 10/10. The only negative is that the tables were a bit messy with food and empty drinks (I suppose it was the lunchtime rush anyway).

Over the last 5 years, I've had at least 20 burritos in Boojum (mostly delivered home but we also visited the Chichester Street branch). Always fresh, always amazing!

Fresh, tasty selection of the best Mexican food. Burritos, taco’s, tortilla’s and bowls. Great vegetarian options too and really generous portion sizes.

My daughter would ‘drag’ me in here every now and again. Must admit I love their food. Mainly for the younger generation but thoroughly recommended.

Mexican is not an ethnic dish found easily in Ireland north or south, but boojum has it close enough to help when I miss that Florida-Mexican food!

I have to vist Boojum every time I'm in Ireland, pretty much lived on these for a fortnight when working in Belfast a few years ago and that started my obsession. Best Burritos I've ever had and I've eaten them all over the world (but not in Mexico yet!). Filling, excellent. Portion size, massive. Price, spot on.

Found this place in an article from the guardian (if you can't trust the guardian, who can you trust?) whilst looking for a spot for lunch during a flying visit to Belfast. Buritto was the biggest I've had in this kind of place - I normally end up wishing they came with fries! Hot salsa was actually spicey and it was rolled expertly to ensure meaty goodness with every bite and limited spillage. Very impressed and so full I thought I'd write this review whilst I wait until I can move again!

Thought this place must be good when I saw the queue but was so disappointed. My burrito was overall barely warm and tortilla wrap was actually cold in centre. It was overfilled and impossible to eat, soggy and had cheap cheese. By far the worst vegetable burrito I’ve ever had. They are rushing to make them and taking no care, they way they throw fillings in means meat falls in preparation area. Not using green utensils properly either. Can’t believe this place has 5 star hygiene rating. Vegetarians avoid!

Made my first ever visit to boojum yesterday to see what all the fuss was about! I was so astounded by the choice as had only expected burritos! Had the most delish vege nachos all washed down with a cool beer. Queues were long but moved very quickly. Staff were knowledgable and helpful, and ingredients were so fresh. Defo recommend

I am a regular to Boojum in Great Victoria Street and these guys are awesome, engaged, friendly and overall seem to enjoy their jobs. We visited this Chichester store last week as it was closer to us having been out shopping. Don't get me wrong the food was as always very good but the service was terrible. There was a new " cracker" choice to added to the menu and when we asked the staff member what it was she was very annoyed that I had taken her away form her conversation with her colleague. We ordered the 2x burrito bows and my other half sat down, The cashier gave me the JUST EAT delivery 3 times before I got the correct order as she was too busy talking to again to her colleague. When we sat down the cashier took her phone out and recorded her colleague doing the floss dance.. don't get me wrong, I love a bit of craic and banter but it felt like it was all they could do to serve us and it came across they really didn't want to be working or like there jobs. I Won't return to this store again. Poor customer service and unhelpful staff on shift

It's a winning formula which clearly has a very broad appeal. And many regular customers. I generally opt for the vegetarian "bowl" - the bowls offer the best value as they contain the most food. You can't really go too far wrong with a BOOJUM.

If you are into Mexican then you need to try Boojum. Boojum is Belfast most popular, and i believe the largest, Mexican Barito change.

Alot of people rave about this place but I don't really like how all the food is shredded maximising surface area. Just doesn't taste fresh

Fillings are like slop. Too much rice. Staff can't wrap burritos properly because they overfill them. The burritos then leak all over you. When wrapping the sticker gets attached to the wrap most of the time. Writing this from the toilet because no hope moving from here today after the last chance I'll give boojum ever

Situated in Belfast city centre this fast food restaurant offers exceptionally good food at reasonable prices. Sit in or take away you will excited by the multitude of variations for your burrito. Beer is also served and the staff extreme!y friendly. This is a regular stop at lunchtime for me

El burrito bowl y fajitas que tuvimos fueron excelentes! El tamaño de las porciones eran enormes y terminamos nosotros alimentación para dos comidas. Somos fanáticos apasionados chipotle y estábamos un poco escépticos de una cadena similar, pero sin duda nos impresionó Boojum! Por suerte entramos justo antes de la fiebre de almuerzo ya que este lugar era muy, muy ocupados todo el tiempo que estuvimos allí. Rápido, delicioso y sin duda vale la pena el dinero!

Despite lunch hour rush was served very quickly with an enormous portion. Well worth the price and quality ingredients used. Also great indie music inside the place!

After attending Spanish lessons what better than trying out this place. Rather a confusing ordering system(could be easier advertised), the girl on salad (3rd part) had very good interpersonal skills. Good for lunch but didn't see any non alcoholic drinks so I ordered none as I was driving.

This has to be the best Boojum store in Belfast. Never been to any others. Friendly staff well dressed and we'll mannered. Bunch of very hard working people. Massive portions too. Keep up the good work :)

Loved here quick bite before going to the to the Darts. No airs and graces pick what you want sit down eat it and move on. It definately is a lot of eating very tasty.

Many places around that seem to do something similar. The guys (and gals) here couldn't cram enough in each wrap. They were busting at the seams and afterward so was I!

Came here after a poor experience at the botanic branch a few days before and it was completely different. Absolutely delicious food, friendly servers and prompt service.

I frequently visit here and it does do the job, usually very filling although the portions have got smaller while prices have increased, as well as more Boojum's opening in town it now seems to be going a bit downhill with the quality slightly dropping, still decent though. Staff are very friendly. Queue moves quick and has a good ordering system. If you want fast food mexican style to keep you full for a good few hours, this is the one. The burritos are quite messy so i usually go for the bowl. Get it ate.

This busy little take out place provided a great dinner for me and my partner on our recent trip to Belfast. We had a burrito bowl and burrito. They were very generous portions and the food was fresh. Extras like cheese and sour cream won't cost you and the staff are upbeat and friendly despite being inundated with customers. I would definitely recommend this well priced, well stocked restaurant!

When I worked in Belfast a few years ago I used to love coming here. What happened? The place is run down to the point it is nearly falling down. There is actual duct tape holding things together when you enter through the front door!!When I made it to the counter the place just looked a mess. Dirty food and plastic packaging everywhere. Granted, it was lunch time and it was busy but still, it looked as though no one cared one bit. After getting my food I went to sit down and the tables were littered with rubbish from other customers. There was food on the floor, the bins were overflowing. The entire experience was just off putting and so different from what I remember.This is not the boojum I used to love. I heard there is new management now. Perhaps they should invest in some new decor and furniture. Even a lick of paint would do wonders! How much does it cost to paint??? What a shame.

After a long day sightseeing a group of 9 of us decided to go here for something quick and easy. Really good food. Downside was dirty eating area and a friend found a screwed up post-it note in his nachos! Worth a visit tho

Have been a few times. Great place for a fast filling meal in Belfast. 1 in city centre and 1 just outside city centre. Fast food just join queue pick a menu and order when ur turn. Great choice and great food very filling and tasty and ready in minutes. New favourite place to eat in Belfast.

After I moved to Oz I trailed through every burrito joint in Perth, there is nothing that could remotely compare to Boojum's delicious goodness!!!I have tried to recreate it myself and failedMiserably, this is a must see place every time I come back to Belfast

Boojum will charge everyone the same price but they don't give everyone the same amount of food.When you queue in Boojum you will regularly see the staff talking to their friends who are ordering food and they always give their friends more food than those they don't know.It's not fair to charge me the same price as the person in front of me when the person in front of me has been given more food.I wrote to Boojum about this and they told me I can simply ask for more food so I did just that and was subsequently charged more so I ended up getting a similar amount of food to the person in front of me but had to pay £2 more. I have now stopped going to Boojum for this reason.I now walk past Boojum to go to Slums in Bruce Street, Belfast which is the same concept as Boojum but which has better service, nicer food, equal measures for equal charges, and is much better value for money.Slums serves Indian food and, in my opinion, is a vastly superior option.

We're self-proclaimed burrito snobs and weren't disappointed. The late-night crowd is fun. El Yucateco and Chulula are on tap- the mark of a serious taqueria, for sure. The beer selection sucks (at least, it did when we visited), but they do at least have something to offer, and there are plenty of great bars nearby for drinks afterward.

Can't beat Boojum for a burrito. Hands down the best there is in Belfast (and the best I've ever had). It's becoming a bit of an institution in Belfast, so I highly recommend. They are huge aswell so you will be well fed!

Was here with the wife, recommended by our son, so we decided to pay a visit. The guy behind behind the counter must seen this was our first time visit, and explained the whole setup. What can I say about the food, very very tasty. Very enjoyable.

I went a couple of years ago when it just opened and for some reason didn't like it. Tried it again recently because of all the hype and have to say I'm now a little obsessed with it. If I lived the rest of my life and just ate the chilli burrito I would die happy. I once had a boojum for Lunch, Dinner and then lunch again the next day. I would have carried on to dinner the next day however I don't know if this would have been socially acceptable!

Boojum was highly recommended by a friend so we visited. It was very busy but the line moved very quickly. There seemed to be lots of options: bowls, burritos, fajitas, tacos. The veggie burrito was very good, lots of salsa choices and 3 filling choices. The staff knew which items were not vegan. Good place to go for a quick lunch, and a giant burrito.

Place is simply the best spot in belfast for lunch. Love the burritos. Every time my office has visitors from London over for work I bring them. One of our regular visitors I think will be petitioning the owners to open in London soon.

Boojum is a great place to go to for a good feed, with lots of options ranging from tacos to nachos to burritos. Make sure to go with an empty stomach!

Unreal food, as always. Super service and my two favourites black hat girl and Christine, took the children back in 5/12/16 after going around the market all they wanted was boojum. Their faces when they seen the two staff members from the previous visit was worth more than paying to see santa. Yet again black hat girl went out of her way to make them feel welcomed and made direct contact with my children when asking what they wanted, my daughter wanted salsa but was unsure so she offered her the corn and tomato on the side and even the sour cream as she had never tried it before. Boojum with this staff member on your team I can only praise her services and my children won't shut up about how they feel like grown ups when she serves them.. Not many places have staff that go above and beyond.. Thank you..

I'm at this Boojum every couple of months but used to be a regular before the other Boojums opened. Lovely food, generous portions and usually nice staff. I like the loyalty card scheme where you not only get free meals, also a tea shirt.

I love Mexican food so dove in as soon as I saw the huge line at Boojum. The Burrito was magnifico, the staff, cleanliness, freshness of food and speed of service..Go for it, you will love it.

Normally I LOVE boojum - I'm a complete regular having filled 3.5 loyalty cards. (3 T shirts !!!) the food is absolutely delicious, and this is the first instance I've had a reason to complain. However, I am so disappointed with my experience today that I have decided to review the store in such a drastically low way.Today, I went in to get a regular order of mine which is just 2 scoops of rice as I'm a student in grammar school and don't have much money, so sometimes two scoops of rice is all I can afford. When I took this order to the till, a female member of staff with brown hair told me she would have to charge for a full veggie bowl - £5.10!!!!!! For two scoops of rice!!!! I told her that normally this order would cost me £1, however the woman who said she was an experienced worker insisted she has never done so and that the company have never allowed someone to buy only rice, which i know is completely untrue having bought this on at least 3 occasions.The manner in which the member of staff dealt with me was completely inappropriate, rude and I felt completely humiliated by her in front of a long line of people, where she forced me to admit I could not afford a full veggie bowl.She then asked me "so I'm just binning your order, yeah?" which I found very rude again, and I left the store with no apology for the inability to serve me what I wanted or for the generally rude manner in which I was dealt with.I am so disappointed with boojum as it is my favourite place to go for a meal and honestly, I'm still shocked at how poorly the member of staff dealt with me.Hoping to never be served by her again when I next go in for a burrito!

The burritos are amazing and large enough to fill you for the whole day. The only problem is as they're so popular the queue can be quite long, although the staff are very efficient at getting you through quickly

We make special trips just to pick up lunch here. Always good always quick always happy. It's a popular place and despite the queuing it doesn't take very long to get served. Love the choices. As I like low carb the salad bowl is fantastic for me and the portion is pretty filling.

Boojum now has 3 locations in Belfast, and they are all excellent for vegans. 2 types of rice, 2 types of bean, peppers and onions, 4 different salsas of differing heat level, and the most delicious guacamole this side of the Rio Grande! All of this fillings can be in a burrito (whole wheat or white), hard or soft tacos, or just in a bowl.I cannot recommend this place highly enough. A vegan burrito is probably the healthiest 'fast food' you can buy. It's also so delicious I am not exaggerating when I say I could honestly eat one for lunch and dinner every single night and still love it every time!In conclusion, go to Boojum and eat a vegan burrito, and thank me later!

I had the vegetarian burrito,was made quickly,even though it was super busy.Very tasty,but heavily filled so you will get messy but that's half the fun.Would go back

Called into the store with my children around 5.20pm yesterday, the queue was out the door, staff working like machines (all credit given and respect) girl with a snapback on talked us through the hot food selection particularly the children which they loved as they felt like adults and to which she said another girl Christine would take over for the salsa selection who was also plesant and made them feel valued. Well done girls, the children will definitely be back. To add to this someone came walking out the back from the kitchen I presume with a half bottle of wine, I was unaware this was a bring your own. Anyway I was back in before I started work at around 9.30/45 to which the same girl was back clearly intoxicated, and had given her friend some of the hot sauce to try, laughing and giggling away (yes I'm up for people having a laugh) I asked a staff member if that girl worked here to which the girl shouted I work in botanic. Not sure if she does or not, but getting on like that with customers in the shop is a bad example to set and I'm just glad my children did not have to witness this mess of a "botanic" staff memember. Boojum sorry for the review but I felt it was needed.

Called in here last night around 9.30pm and I Was expecting it not to be the best with closing time being soon but have to say it was really good &amp; worth the travel down into town from north Belfast at that time of night. The two girls who were working both very friendly especially the one who was making our food(blonde I think she was and tattoos) She had a bit of banter with us both and made us feel very welcome. Defo what u need in a food place ...someone with a personality! Coming from experience of working in the food industry myself. Defo be back!

I had heard of Boojum a lot but never visited a store before. Was a bit of a queue but it moved quickly. I ordered a burrito with beef, lime-cilantro rice, black beans, sweetcorn salsa, cheese and sour cream. Wow, it was amazing, a taste explosion. Will definitely be visiting again. Cannot recommend Boojum enough.

Usually eat here as my teenage daughter just loves it. Great burritos at a very reasonable price. Queues always move pretty fast and never disappoints. Staff very friendly. Always service with a smile.

We got a couple of Burritos for my daughter and her boyfriend to have for dinner, on their flight home. They ended up having half for lunch the next day! They are pretty big!My son and I beat the huge lunch time queue, by getting there early, and shared our burrito and nachos as a picnic on the waterfront. The menu is basic but fresh and delicious and all prepared in front of you, to your specifications. The only let down for me was the quality of the tortilla chips wasn't as good as I would have liked, a bit cheap tasting and very salty.If you are looking for a quick, reasonably healthy and very filling meal, take away or eat in, this is it.

Pretty sure that it hadn't been open long. They couldn't serve beer yet (so why have it on the board?) Nice food and good portions but food wasn't as hot as it could have been. Even eating in my burrito was cold before I finished.

UNREAL. Food very fresh and very tasty. Extras a little bit expensive and burritos have definitely got smaller but still well worth a visit

Get this one right before opening anymore. Half filled bowl, 3 pieces of chicken, tasteless salsa. Never again.

Boojum offers very cost-efficient burritos with delicious ingredients for a small price. Food is prepared on the spot, and the portion sizes are massive. The only issues are that the food is be quite acidic and can cause heartburn, and that the menu is rather limited. However, it it's cheap and quick Mexican food you want, you won;t find a better spot in Belfast.

It's all been said before and the queues every lunchtime are testimony to how good this food is. Great variety of foods and spices…I leave it to my wife to choose what we have…it's all wonderful.Our favourite is a Burrito Bowl with Chicken, but I can't imagine any combination on offer would disappoint.Make sure you pay at least one visit…probably won't be your last.Got the tortilla chips and guacamole recently as an extra which I thought was rather expensive at £2.75 when I saw the small portion of guacamole, but that apart, Boojum is great value for money.

This is a fast food place with authentic Mexican flavours but by no means junk food. You queue and pick your filling and sauces and then you pay and park on a bench or on a bar stool and snaffle the very filling and tasty Mexican food. Be prepared to share seats and tables with others when it gets busy but it's casual and yummy so perfect for stomach lining before a night out on the beer/wine/cocktails. Staff are friendly and efficient and I would recommend this place for these reasons.

Love the food and staff are very friendly and helpful. Burrito bowl is my favourite but all dishes seem to be excellent

We visited with friends mid week, the portions seamed good as always but the quality has dropped in the ingredients used, we wouldn't hurry back but the value for money is still good.

I have to compare this place to burrito bars in Toronto, and as the title says, I found them to be generous with meat but there was very little seasoning on anything. Good price and will fill you up if you're hungry, but you'll need salt and hot sauce.

Very good mexican fast food. Even if it was queue out on the street we get our meal fast. It was tasty to a decent price.

So after an initial disasterous experience with Boojum years ago, in which my Taco order turned into nachos with added hair, I've been going back.Have to say that the food is good, reasonably priced. It is a subway-style system where you choose what you want, the filling and the toppings.I usually go for the mexican rice, chilli beef, blackbeans, salsa and take the offered topping sour cream and cheese.However I have noticed, and colleagues that I go with have also noticed, that the portion of meat that is dished out has gotten smaller. The chilli beef must be coming straight out of their wages, as only the amount that falls off the slightest flick of the ladel ends up on the meal. I know a lb of mince is dear enough these days, but for an extra 20p in the price I'd happilly pay to get a proper ladelfull.Staff are always nice though, and the loyalty card gets filled surprisingly quickly for free meals and a T-Shirt after your 40th!

Always a winner. Anytime I'min Belfast I have to call in for a boojum. The shredded beef burrito is my favourite. The green salsa sauce on the tables is also awesome!

What can I say that hasn't been said before, by far the best lunch you will get in Belfast. Efficient system and price point is spot on.

Good mexican fast food. I went early evening mid week and there weren't queues. Reasonably priced and decent portion. Similar to Mexicali or Tex Mex if anyone from NZ

I'm a massive lover of Chipotle and Boojum is just as good and the best Mexican food in Belfast. Service is quick and precise and the food is always great, if I could I would eat here everyday!
