Visited Barry Island as we are massive Gavin and Stacey fans. Visited Boofys and found the staff absolutely amazing. Food was exceptional and very plentiful.

Fab vegan friendly chips and curry sauce

"Cash is King" sticker in the front window puts sensible people off visiting. Cash is not "legal tender" as the sticker suggests. Fish & Chips are not a debt to be repaid.

They are still preparing and serving great fish and even better chips. I normally have the cod bites and chips but opted for the fish this time which was nice but it wasn't as filling and satisfactory as the cod bites. My daughter had the curry and chips and said they were delicious. Would definitely recommend to anyone.

Best cod I’ve had in a long time, just superb. Little queue Saturday lunch time but worth the wait. Ordered 2 cod and chips, large curry sauce, 2 bottles of water and can on pop and came to £25.90.

Lovely real chips, friendly fun staff and great value, beans and chips with a cup of tea perfect by the sea.

Tasty food good choice value friendly efficient staff. They ask what you would like in queue to save waiting time. Card or cash highly recommended wish we were local we will be back.

Shocking, miserable staff chips dry fish tasteless

Decided to have fish & chips here based on previous TripAdvisor reviews. We accepted that because of its popularity that we would have to queue. The owner, very sensibly, asked us whilst in the queue what we would be ordering. A good move to ensure that fish & pie stocks were there ready & waiting for us. Managed to get a table….ok, so it was a bit ‘rough & ready’ but that’s what we were expecting. Hot and tasty food although I do wish they wouldn’t microwave the pies!! Good value and a good place to stop, especially inside to avoid the extremely annoying gulls!

Had a brilliant lunch here. Some booths indoors and a couple of tables outside for seating but we were lucky to get a table at lunchtime. We arrived just before the lunchtime rush and had a short queue, but the time we left the queue was around the corner! The chef does proactively check what people in the queue need cooking so the queue does move at a fair speed. Well priced, very tasty, we all enjoyed the meal.

Worth the wait. The fish was outstanding and ‘white’. The batter crispy and light. The staff appeared happy despite the long queues. Would certainly recommend a visit.

My family of 4 were stood outside of O'Shea's, waiting for them to open up. They were late and an employee of Boofy's told us we were queuing outside the wrong one! I thought that was cheeky, but the reviews of this chippy seemed good enough to try. Aren't we glad O'Shea's were late! Boofy's was brilliant! Honestly the best fish, chips and mushy peas since I can remember! The batter was so light, crispy and cooked to perfection! The chips were also light and crispy! Mushy peas were perfect consistency. The fish is cooked to order so be aware of a 10 minute wait. It's worth it though! Reasonably priced menu compared to where I live in the midlands made for a happy wallet! If I'm ever in Barry Island again, I hope nothing changes and you're just as good as you were today! Thank you!

I wanted to write in as I think your staff need to have some compassion and think of how others feel and what they deal with . I visited today with My boy who is 9. He has celebral palsy and autism. He is in a wheelchair. We visited yourselves at 4.30 I queued up for ages as I could see you had seating. He struggles to balance his food in his wheelchair and needs a table to eat. He also has a massive phobia of seagulls. He has had them fly down and take food whilst he was eating in his wheelchair as he takes a while. When I got near the front I could see the seating was closed off. I asked politely and explained to an older lady with short hair could we sit down quickly. The tables hadn't been wiped down and still had things on them. She said if she did it for us she would have to do it for everyone. I didn't see the problem she could see he was in a wheelchair. Even the woman behind felt it was mean when she heard our conversation. I couldn't be asked to say anything I was tired from pushing him on the beach in his wheelchair and just wanted to sit down for Two minutes and have chips myself . I ordered for him and left. Went to Marcus next door and they were lovely and even though I had chips they let me sit down. I offered to buy a coffee but said no need to and understood. I also noticed this woman employed by you was really unkind and abrupt with the young staff. Marcos have lovely customer service and understanding with customers with disabilities maybe this woman should take a leaf out of their books.

Can't go wrong with this place. Very friendly and welcoming. Proper fish and chips in a great location overlooking the beach. You get a good portion for a fair price, tasty crispy chips with a chunky piece of fish in a fantastic batter.

Last year on day trip i came in for fish & chips so i returned this year on a day trip and came in for fish& chips which i enjoyed very much service was good as well

On 3rd of August I went on a day trip to Barry island as I've not been since in was younger. however I had a nice breakfast in Barry but when it was lunch time I went to boofy chip shop there and asked if they did haddock or any other fish as I am not a great liker of cod I got told "No only cod" sorry your not a real fish and chip shop if u don't do haddock or plaice or any other fish so I had pie and chip the pie was vile and disgusting I've never in my life seen a chicken and mushroom pie fill that was brown and not a creamy white ish filling the chip was not cook properly so I wasted £10 on a very vile disgusting lunch I never eat it after the first few chips and a bit of pie which was nasty and left a sour taste in my mouth after one bite I for sure won't be going back to this place again that's for sure plus the place did not look very clean behind the counter I think it needs a very good clean in my view.

I’ll keep it simple and to the point! I don’t like fish and chips, they’re greasy the batter makes me feel sick and chips are never a slight golden brown. Fish and chips shops pride themselves on this and yet they miss the mark ever so slightly. The chips are yellow and the batter is on the darker side of golden brown. THIS PLAICE (pun intended) ABSOLUTELY NAILED IT. GOLDEN CRISP CHIPS AND THE FISH WAS CRISPY FLAKEY AND NOT GREASY!!! The side of tartar and a lemon slice added an extra touch but to be honest it didn’t need it! BEST FISH AND CHIPS I HAVE EVER HAD. Staff behind the counter were pleasant and chatty and service was quick and straight forward for a large order! can’t wait until my next visit!!!

The best fish and chips in the area! The fish is made to order (they ask the queue to get them going before you even order to minimise your wait) and is absolutely fantastic. Crisp batter but not overdone, the fish is fresh and delicious. And the chips, oh my god, they are great! Maybe it's something about the sea air and being literal metres from the beach, but they are some of the best chipshop chips I have had in a long time! Gravy? Curry sauce? Peas? Boofy's have got you covered. Well worth it, even if there's a queue (it moves quickly!). Would recommend!

The food was rather average. I wouldn’t say it was of the highest quality however it was acceptable. There was a hair inside one of the chips, this wasn’t pleasant. They might need to improve their cleanliness. Not bad but not good overall. Hope to see some improvements.

3 chippies in a row. Naturally gravitated towards this one being a huge Gavin and Stacey fan and it didn’t disappoint. Some of the best chips I’ve had in a long time, excellent sausage and the fish looked immense. Being a seaside beach front and riding still on the G&S wave, they could charge more but I was pleasantly surprised to get a really good portion of chips for £3.50. A large bag in Bristol can cost me £4 or more these days so this made for a nice change to getting ripped off in these types of places. Highly recommended and passing people sat outside of the chippies either side, it’s fair to say that Boofys looked a cut above and no doubt tasted a cut above. Highly recommended 10/10 Tidy !

MUST TRY Fish 🐟 🍟Chips with true cult background if you ever hear about sitcom 'Gavin and Stacy'... The dish was STUNNING but waiting time and (especially!) Dirt everywhere not really. Nevertheless very affordable classical and delicious British standard. Yum!

The best fish and chips I've eaten. One issue, I should have asked for the curry sauce on the side, my problem, not theirs. Staff are, despite being rushed, very friendly, and understanding to your needs. If you're on Barry Island, stop here for food.

Arrived at 12:05 and the queue was out the door by some margin. So I thought we’ll this must be the best place. Despite the lengthy queue one of the cooks came out and was taking pre orders which really helped keep things moving. Food was good quality and enjoyable

So the food was nice ..kids meal a bit on the small.side.But the fish and chips delicious. However I had worked up an appetite as queued for 45 mins.The management need to sort out how this chippie is managed.It was a bank holiday so guaranteed to be busy and the four workers couldn't cope.The poor bloke was run off his feet. One till and young girl taking orders (quite slow ..possibly new ) .The overall service was poor...there are more people working in my local.chippie on a Wednesday night .I also noticed no Ice cream or seating inside available so guessing it's a staffing issue.

Went there on a Sat & it was very busy-a testament of how fab they are. Great value, freshly cooked fish. Lovely!

Could not walk past and not buy, lovely chippy smells, we had a fish and chips which we shared as it was quite large, and cooked fresh. Staff very chatty and friendly and place looked lovely and clean, beautiful views while you eat.

How can you not pop in here if your a massive Gavin And Stacey fan. Its juniors all time favourite sitcom. In all fairness they could pump out mediocre food and get away with it, as half the people just bye there because of its inclusion in the show on TV. But in all honesty the food is excellent and be careful as the portions are massive. The fresh fish is to die for.

Very disappointed today, been coming here for years, every time we visit Barry Boofys is always our go to. But today it was terrible, chips where ok, but the two small battered sausages where soggy and bland,the second one tasted like fish so was thrown away. Just grim so so disappointed, and I've been left with a upset stomach all day. Sorry guys.

Absolutely phenomenal fish & chips. No greasy fish, just the right amount of chips which were wonderful. They were recommended to us by a local, stating they were the best in Barry/Barry Island and they were not lying. Now I am recommending Boofy’s to anyone else. Perfection is not an understatement.

Great to have gluten free chips as a treat. I am gluten intolerant and daughter coeliac. We went on the Friday of jubilee weekend at lunchtime and it was busy, very busy. About a 40minute wait. The service could have been faster but they looked shocked at how busy it was. Chips were excellent and the wife really enjoyed her fish too. If you are after a gluten free option we would highly recommend. Beware though, the cheap packets of ketchup they sell are not gluten free as it contains barley as we found unfortunately.

Lovely fresh cooked cod & chips, thin and crisp batter. The veggie hotdog was very nice too. The chips were perfect, not soggy and not over cooked. The curry sauce was lovely and thick with a good curry flavour to it & the mushy peas were perfect.
