Food was amazing very fresh sushi and great tasting noodle dishes, staff were super friendly.

Really good food for a decent price, we came for my friends birthday and had a lovely time

reserverved a table for valentines in advance, did not get past the front door, stuck in the rain for a good hour before we left to go to a different sushi place, whoever managed that night needs to get schooled on reservations, thank you for reading. Truly beautiful experience P.S I booked it 2 weeks in advance.

Very happy with the service and food!! Food was very tasty 😋 Staff was very helpful, accommodating and friendly especially DAN, I highly recommend him. He is amazing! had a table booked for 1 month valentine’s day at 8pm. arrived at bonzai at 7:45 in which there was a queue where people said they had waited over an hour in. we assumed this was for walk ins as obviously we had the reservation at 8pm but we are later told they had triple booked and we would have to wait in the queue. they offered to take our phone number and call us when it’s ready so we could get a drink somewhere. however, we never received a call back and when going back to the restaurant to speak to someone at 9pm not one staff member approached us and we were stood there for an additional 20 minutes. at this point we decided to leave as it wasn’t worth any more of our time. we were looking forward to trying this restaurant however are now really put off.

Great food and reasonably priced. Visited about 6 times over the last 2 years and its now mine and my sons favourite restaurant. Waiting staff are pleasant and friendly and love their level of service.

Food was amazing and service was great. The chicken/ beef is halal however they do mention that they deep fry it with the pork.

The restaurant was really cold, even the men in our party were chilly which says something! The sushi platter my friend had was incredible. I chose the Teppenyaki option and although it was good value it wasn't particularly mind-blowing; just standard food you might get from any place. E.g. spring rolls/samosas that were akin to Tesco frozen ones. The main reason for ordering this was that I am vegetarian and the menu is HUGE, and not very well labelled - I had no idea if my choice would be vegetarian or not so went for the safe option. Having said this, the young guy that served us was great and I should've just asked him what the sushi options were for vegetarians. The edamame beans come in their shells - don't be an idiot like me and eat it! Not good! You have to essentially pop the beans out of the shell, but of a faff and all the flavouring is on the shell. Basically if you're going to go here, take a jumper and order the sushi!

Hands down the best Japanese restaurant in Nottingham. Have had sushi at this place for at least 5 times and they never disappoint. Highly recommend this place to anyone looking for Japanese! 🙌🏻

I've been visiting this place for years and it has been consistently fantastic!! Flavourful honest Japanese authentic food, the menu is large but I always go for the dragonroll sushi, salt and pepper squid (packs a punch!) and the noodle dishes. You also cant go wrong with the Bonzai platter to share....satay chicken is next level I could eat a bucketful! Thanks again for the wonderful service, the chef in the kitchen are fab!! Keep doing whatever it is that you are doing :D

I used to love this place but I feel the food and the attitude of the staff has gone downhill unfortunately

Being a sushi addict and having tried most sushi restaurants in Notts, Bonzai is by far the best! I wouldn't think twice about going anywhere else for sushi, always 10/10 food and service, Dan in particular is always very polite and chatty. Favourites - Korean beef ramen, white tiger sushi roll, bonzai salmon & avo, sushi, red dragon sushi & beef terryaki noodles.

Wonderful menu choice, delicious food, excellent service. Looking forward to visiting again.

Bonzai is a total gem. We loved our lunch - Szechuan pepper prawn noodle bowl, miso soup and some amazing sushi. Tuna was incredible!

You pay proper Japanese restaurant prices but get takeaway food quality. Sushi tasted not any better than what you get on a motorway services WHSmith. If you want good Japanese, go to Nan Tei or to Sosu.

Been here many times whenever I visit Nottingham. Sashimi is absolutely incredible, service is excellent today we were served by Dan he was super helpful

Went to Bonzai Sushi with work colleagues on Wednesday 29th November. The food and the atmosphere was amazing! I really enjoyed trying everyone's food. I enjoyed the Red Dragon and the Spider Soft Shell Crab Futomaki, the vegetarian sushi was great, the gyoza's were lovely! The Yasai Harumaki were huge and so filling. Tori Teri Raman was delicious. We enjoyed room temperature Sake and when we return, we are looking forward to trying hot sake. I will be returning with other people to Bonzai for sure. Thank you very much

Great buzzy place, fresh sushi, good service and fun presentation of the food.

Knowing that this restaurant is very popular we booked 2 weeks before our visit. On arrival (on time) we were told that we would have to wait for half an hour as they had let too many walk-ins in. Not good enough.

Unfortunately on a Saturday it is a cash only restaurant but once we had fixed this issue the food was absolutely lovely. The service was a little slow but the sushi, tempura and katsu curry made up for it. Delicious lunch, great value and will return. As a practical note, the women's cubicles are absolutely tiny!

Lovely spot, great food, pricier than other options in town but lovely as a special treat.

The food is excellent. The staff are friendly. It falls down a bit as it could be cleaner and could do with a decorative facelift.

The best ones are the golden and red dragon sushi if you like fried shrimp. It is expensive but the fresh quality doesn’t disappoint

It's okay here but not the best. My beef and rice bowl wasn't hot and a very mild flavour with very little seasoning. My partner enjoyed a sushi, and nigiri platter. Not a cheap night out.

Amazing! Stumbled across this restaurant when we were in town for an event and we enjoyed every youthful. The mango and cream cheese sushi is surprisingly light and delicious. Highly recommended.

Have visited this place several times over the years, and it’s always good. Super polite and helpful service, freshly cooked but relatively quickly, and a good range of dishes not solely Japanese but other Asian options too. Bring cash to pay for service/a tip!

Such a lovely place with some of the best sushi we have had. Our server Dan has been fantastic every time we have been & the overall service has been amazing! :)

The food was not authentic Japanese food at all. Bland, overcooked noodles, ramen served with a hard-boiled egg and tempura inside the broth! I was also shocked that they don't have chilli oil. Not worth the price.

At one time I'd have rated Bonzai as the best Japanese restaurant in the area. Service was never particularly swift but the food was consistently brilliant and the place had a great atmosphere. Fast forward to the present and the food is still good, even outstanding at times. Sadly the restaurant itself is beginning to look very tatty. Shabby decor, ripped seat covers and general feeling that is not been well maintained. The toilets, in particular are pretty grim. One bowl overflowing in the ladies and no paper on the dispenser. I do wanted to love Bonzai having had some fabulous dining experiences in the past. However, I cannot overlook how run down it now feels. Please sort out out guys - I will then gladly return, with my family and friends.

Absolutely amazing evening, had a mix of a vegetarian avacado dish along with an udon noodles dish, both absolutely delicious, cannot fault the food at all, but the service was the show stopper tonight. Two lovely members of staff on tonight, both fast, friendly and efficient. Only caught the name of the younger man, Dan who was exceptionally amazing. Will definitely be back soon!

Really enjoyed the food and service, I went for a set menu whcih was very good value for money (but so much food I couldn’t finish it!) I definitely want to go again to try the bento box, the ramen and the California rolls which all looked amazing so a few more visits are definitely in order.

Main came out before starter. Katsu chicken was dry and tasteless, fried squid was like rubber and had to be sent back. Chicken skewer starter was undercooked and mushy in texture. Place felt grubby and seat cover was very ripped. Service was fast and inattentive.

I live nearby and always wanted to try the food here and it didn't disappoint. Top quality food I will definitely eat here again! Highly recommended!

I've been coming to Bonzai since 2008, that's actually 15 years now! Sometimes the service could be better, but the food never misses the mark. The Korean Spicy Udon with Beef would be my last meal on earth if I got to choose. When I lived in Asia I would always come home to it and make a beeline for Bonzai. Maybe you can give me the recipe? ;-) Really good lunch menus too. Earlier this April I had the Udon shiyo noodles and they were amazing. Huge portion of tempura Inc king prawn. Sushi wonderful as always!

This has become one of my favourite spots for food in Nottingham! Prior to going here, I would have said that I don’t like sushi, having only tried sushi from buffets and the supermarket, but I loved the sushi here. The sushi is fresh and the portion sizes are generous. They also have a range of other dishes. In addition to the sushi, we also tried the noodles; you can choose the type of noodle, the meat and the sauce to go with it. The atmosphere is calm and laid back. When visiting outside of peak hours, we haven’t needed to book.

One word, ”Fantastic”. Went in Monday lunchtime and it was full, staff having to turn people away - the fact it was full at that time of the week says a lot in itself! We had a great sushi platter - much better than the chain restaurants in town. Highly recommend, we will be back 👍🏻

Filled with asian customers every time we have visited is testament to how great Bonsai is. A really authentic place to sample some world class sushi and Japanese dishes. Really cosy like many eateries in the east but great service and a wide selection - so whether you are a sushi veteran or a virgin Bonsai is a great shout!

Me and my Partner came across this tiny and, in my opinion, easy to miss restaurant on our date night after being put off by long wait in other restaurants by our choice.We were met by one of the waitresses and were asked to wait a couple of minutes for a table. Saturday night, busy as it can get. We were not as lucky with the table as were sat right next to the door and the breeze was just something else. Freezing to say the least.Food was amazing apart from mains, I had pad Thai and my Partner had Udon noodles with chicken in Korean Chili sauce. Both dishes were good but nowhere near the sushi rolls and starters. Salt and pepper squid is my favourite by far and these guys exceeded my expectations. Superb!It's a place to go if you're all about food and not so much atmosphere.All in all - Amazing and we can't wait to return.

Good little Jap/Asian style restaurant with attrocious service. Sat down, ordered, table next to us arrived 5 minutes later and got served before us. Ordered a starter and a lunch box that came with miso soup. Soup arrived first followed by lunch box and then starter. Had to ask for chopsticks and soy sauce. Nobody cleared the table at the end of the meal. They do give you a 10% discount for cash though.

If you facny some Japanese/oriental food you should be disappointed here. Well worth a visit. Saaturday mid afternoon no problem getting a table and quick service.

First of all, the food here is very good, there is a huge menu and we had a variety of food. I definitely enjoyed pretty much everything. Highlights were the salmon sushi, the satay chicken and miso soup. However, there were a number of issues with the service.

Uramaki fue genial. Además, la soja que solíamos mojar es auténticamente japonesa. El pollo Udon estaba bien. Pensé que había alguien tocando constantemente la puerta de su casa, pero aparentemente eran los golpes de su chef en la cocina que estaba situada junto a los clientes. We have been eating here for about 8 years. We know the service is pretty bad but the food is great so we take it on the chin. However, this time it was on another level. We arrived for our meal at 7.00, we ordered our food after about 15 minutes, our starters came out after about 7.30 as the restaurant was about 1/3 full. It then took till 9.00 for our main course to arrive. Countless excuses that it was “just being made” “5 minutes” This is unacceptable we have two young children and they love the food but I doubt we will go again. When it can to paying they did not offer any discount after they had made us wait for so long so we refused to give them the full amount. The owner or manager or whoever would not come and speak to us and instead they told the staff to say if we did not pay it would be taken out of the staffs wages...I’m sorry but we couldn’t care less. It’s a team effort. We didn’t pay full price.
