Bombay Cottage in South Lanarkshire

Booked a table for 4 people for 3 pm, not given table to 3.25 . A shambles in table planning. Staff appeared at odds with each other as regards orders/service. Starters served okay as what was ordered however some mains arrived late and/or incorrect. One was supposed to be chicken tikka sizzler which came with a masala sauce and rice, what came was chicken tikka masala with no rice. Eventually rice came for which we were over charged. The vegetable rogan gosht was too spicy and inedible. Won't be rushing back anytime soon

Food ok, still eating starter and waiter cleared everyone else’s plates away including uneaten pompadours and spiced onions. Just average wouldn’t rush back.

Let me start by saying ...love the food, the staff and the setting but to have confirmed that the tips we give for staff are sent to a girls school in India is appalling. There's no notices to state this on site or any indication anywhere to alert the public that's this is where our tips go. I've sent an email and a couple of messages to the restaurant but they haven't confirmed or denied it, they have ignored them. So I've decided to make it public on social media too. I have had it confirmed and I won't say by whom. I'm angry that I'm giving good tips for staff and they are not receiving a penny of it!!!!

Went here to dinner already not feeling well only for the waiter in the spiv moustache to arrive coughing his lungs out while setting out the plates, who should have not came in to work if he had a cold. Then getting ushered out to the car park because they can't wait to shut the gates at 22:00.

I’m a customer for 30 years and tonight my partner ordered king prawns korma and it apppears the prawns was too salty . We complained to the waiter and he did changed but still the same . That salty that we cant even taste the prawns . They’re Adamant that they didn’t put salt on the prawns and stated that it could be the sauce . We did tried to explained it’s not the sauce but the prawns itself . We were disappointed plus they still charged us after ate 3 of the prawns .

This was my first visit and , I am delighted to say, I was not disappointed . This is an excellent restaurant. Comprehensive menu: delicious and carefully prepared food. Wonderful ambiance and very attentive staff. “ Sunny “ made us feel most welcome and the whole experience was delightful. Can wholeheartedly recommend.

Arrived about 830-845 ask for table for 2 said something like where have you been as if your late like he didn't want any more customers!! It was a bit off putting. Got meal was ok. Service could have been a lot better, food presentation was poor. Nearly everyone had left and a guy was hoovering up. We felt really uncomfortable and decided just to leave. I will not be back £80 meal wished he had said sorry we are closed and we would have saved the inconvenience we caused 😄

I've eaten in here twice, had one takeaway and had a great experience each time. The food was wonderful, the service was impeccable and very friendly. If you order the nan bread, be prepared to give up half of your table space. They are huge and delicious. I will definitely be back.

got told by staff member that none of the vegetable curry dishes can be made vegan. I’ve been vegan for many years and have always been able to order curry at any other restaurant. Booked table so ordered a drink then had to leave.

Disappointed to say the very least… we have come to Hamilton specifically to come for lunch as we used to live here. Travelled from Bo’ness with my mum and dad. Phoned ahead to say we have been held up but we are on our way. The guy said ok don’t worry just come along we will let them on the door know you’re on your way. Paid the parking, got my kids and mum and dad out the car to be turned away. Why not just say on the phone ?? You have the table away apparently but couldn’t tell us this on the phone. For somewhere that we enjoyed coming to for lunch, we certainly won’t come back now.

Massively disappointed & came home ill. Myself and two others came to the cottage for the first time in a decade to enjoy their food and I have never been more disappointed. The food tasted distinctly burnt, and all of the chicken in each of our curries tasted.. off. I don’t know how to put it, but it didn’t taste good. The quality of the cooking has really went down hill since we last visited (two chefs have left to open their own restaurant and it shows)- to put it into perspective we used to all agree that this was the best Indian restaurant in the country, now I’ve experienced the worst Indian food I’ve ever eaten. The main courses of bhuna & butter chicken made all three of us feel sick and we still do 2 days later. Won’t be going back.

Mum and i went here recently for our dinner, on arrival the staff were greeting us and taking our coats for us, starters was lovely, paroka , mum had sizzling chicken dish which was burnt, she sent it back and wasnt offered a replacement , my vegetable curry was bland, no taste to it , was disapointed in the food, went home and was ill for a few days , will be a while before we are back

Ordered takeaway and received the blandest chicken korma I've ever tasted. Absolutely no flavour so had to rely on the peshwari naan for any taste. Don't know if that's how it is supposed to be or if they just didn't add any coconut but it was too much of a drive to return it and find out.

Plenty if food, portions are bigger than expected so don't go mad. Service is great, friendly smiling and helpful.

Been coming here for years,but it's gone down hill looking tired and in need of a good clean.We arrived for our meal at quarter to 3,so in time for £16.99 three course.The meal was OK nothing special. The service was atrocious waited ages in-between food.When the bill eventually came ,we were overcharged. He charged us for the pre theatre menu at £20.99.We told him about his mistake, he started arguing with us infront of other diner's.Hd more or less called us liars,totally embarrassed 😳 .We told him to check the camera above us,to prove his mistake, payed the bill and walked out.Will never be back again,he must be the most ignorant person I have ever met. NEVER BE BACK.

The dirtiest kitchen/restaurant I have even seen. Food is disgusting, owners attitude is despicable, staff are treated shockingly. I would advise coming here only if you want diarrhoea/food poisoning.

Well where do i start from the fact we ordered kids mock-tails and our 5 and 6 year old kids received fully alcoholic drinks in which they had some out of. This was not rectified until the waiter came running over 5 mins later and took them back from the table and if we never questioned why they done this we would have never known that the drinks contained vodka. I would definitely stay away from this restaurant and its ill trained staff. When we we questioned the manager about this al they done was brush it off like it was normal practice. So if attending please be very vigilant of bad practices

This is a 4 or 5 star restuarant based on food and value for money the lunch menu is exceptional the portions flavour and food quality are excellent been coming for years thanks to our server the wee Scottish guy Arthur (i think) we decided to stay. The front of house guy was unpleasant, abrupt and unprofesional. My daughter and i were seated directly below a speaker and it was loud we couldnt hear each other talking so i asked to be moved. He said there were speakers all over the restuarant and was very unhelpfull and happy to make his feelings known to other staff. We got the move but i really wanted to walk out. Glad we didnt cause food was great. Think twice about returning as many other great indians in Hamilton and Motherwell.

The Bombay Cottage is a lovely indian restaurant and the food they served was very fresh and hot. I loved how seasoned the food was and nothing has ever come close to the food from the bombay cottage in hamilton. It's close to the town centre and it's an easy walk to get there.

Not good food at all. No taste to the dishes. Garlic mushrooms to start weren’t your normal garlic mushrooms, they had a strange sauce. Garlic Naan bread had far too much garlic it was like uncooked cloves. So disappointing as staff were so nice. Won’t be back.

I visited here last night, having heard many great things, but to say the least, I left very disappointed. On collection, one of the senior staff members was impatient and dismissive with my mother when she was trying to use the card machine. If you are looking forward to a relaxing meal, avoid table 1, unless you want to listen to phones constantly ringing, staff taking over the phone orders right behind you, people queuing right against your table waiting for their takeaway order, constant traffic in and out of kitchen, and delivery drivers banging their delivery boxes off your table as they squeezed past the queue already next to the table! Food was nice enough and service staff were nice, but the Manager wasn't willing to be courteous and reflect our complaint and disappointment in our bill, even though we had had enough of the mayhem and left midway through our main meal! Sadly, a wasted evening to celebrate a special occasion.

If you like listening to country music and eating salt served to you by abrupt snooker player looking people in what can only be described as strip club chic but they’ve borrowed your granny’s furniture then you’ll love this place.
