Boars Head in Pembrokeshire

Thank you all the staff at this lovely pub We came as a family for a birthday get together. Very warm welcome. Food delicious and reasonably priced. We did preorder as there were so many of us but food was served efficiently. Would highly recommend you try this little gem

Disappointing start to our first visit to The Boars Head today to celebrate my best friends 40th birthday. We reserved a table in a specific area of the restaurant on 4th January 2024 to dine today (10th March 2024). The booking was made in this area to ensure we were sat near to a friend and other members of a party to celebrate her 40th birthday with her. On arrival we were told that our table wasn't ready for another 15 to 20 minutes and that we were to be seated on a small table in the bar area. On questioning this and explaining that we had reserved a table in this specific area we were told by 3 members of staff that there was "nothing they could do" and "it was the systems fault because they had booked so many tables in the "system" had moved us to another area...and once again "it wasn't their fault" which makes me wonder "whose fault is it? Because it certainly wasn't ours. We booked the table well in advance, and there was no notification prior to us arriving that the area we had requested to dine in had been changed. As it happemed two members of a friends party werent attending so as a group we were able to rearrange seating ourselves to make sure we could all dine together, but there was no offer of any assitance with this from the staff, they just kept saying "it's not our fault ".The food in the pub today was excellent and great value for money. Sadly, the way that we were welcomed by the staff, the way that the issue was addressed ,and the fact that no apology was offered at all during our visit really tarnished our experience and would make me question visiting again. This is such a shame as we had heard such good things about the place, but the customer service skills were certainly not what we expected.

Celebrating the wife's birthday, her selection to go here and just as well she did. The tomato and roast pepper soup was divine. Then the steak and ale pie was ridiculous, with stunning garlic potatoes. Mrs B's fish was tasty and beautiful, as was the cheesecake. Wonderful service from the ladies. Highly recommend eating here. Funny moment was a sign in the gents, apologising for their condition and being refurbed in due course. Having played in dives for 30 years, the toilets were palatial in comparison! Must visit place!

Despite a bit of a hiccup finding the entrance, our visit to the restaurant turned out to be a delightful experience! The initial hallway wasn’t the best introduction as we came through the doors closest to car park but once inside, we were warmly greeted by a lovely waitress who took excellent care of us. The food was really good – all locally sourced and homemade, with a slightly different twist on the kids’ menu compared to other places. And let’s not forget the delicious desserts! Despite the rocky start, it ended up being a memorable dining experience that we thoroughly enjoyed.

Absolutely excellent Sunday Roast, no faults. Staff were lovely! 10/10, will be returning very soon! Only £58 for two courses & a round of drinks! Beef main. No faults. 10/10. Gravy is the best I’ve ever had! Mozzarella parcels. Could have done with one more for £7.50 but were tasty nevertheless.

It is no good providing excellent food unless you have good staff. We needn't have worried because although we arrived at 12.15pm for Sunday lunch and the pub was already busy, we were served quickly and efficiently. The roasts were generous in portions and sadly we didn't have room for puds! Great food, friendly staff and lovely ambience - what more could you ask for? Our two dogs were welcomed as well. Will definitely be back soon.

Best roast dinner I've ever had. My husband was really impressed too. Extra jug of gravy brought out and was a good consistency; not thin dishwater like you can get in some restaurants. Meat cooked to perfection and the veg was amazing. Absolutely loved the spiced red cabbage. The staff were friendly and although they were busy, they still took our order in a timely manner. Absolute gem of a place.

Beautiful place, made very welcomed with our puppy. Staff were attentive, friendly and helpful. The food was Devine, I had the fish and chips and hubby had the veggie burger, so tasty and portion size spot on . 100% recommend visiting

Delicious food, served by fantastic & friendly staff, in a beautiful pub. Log-fire was roaring so the pub was lovely & warm, despite it only being 5deg outside. Dogs are also welcome too. My wife and I LOVED this pub, and will be back one day!

Went in a party of 12 which was pre booked weeks beforehand for Sunday Lunch. I had high expectations as had heard great things about this pub and the food. Sadly it didn’t live up to expectations as service let it down. We waited about 1/2 hour for our drinks and then had to go and ask as some were missing. The children in the group were getting upset as they were thirsty and had only wanted water and this was just not being brought to the table. The food eventually arrived and we then had to wait about 5 minutes for the vegetables and gravy by which time the meat, potatoes and Yorkshire was lukewarm. One of our group had chilli which had to be returned and replaced as the rice was freezing cold. This meant she didn’t eat her meal with us to start off with. We had to chase for more drinks and more gravy as the service was just not there. There was no-one checking we were alright and if we needed anything else. They had cramped too many tables in and it was a nightmare to get up and down for the toilets and to get to the bar, I was very disappointed especially as this was a big celebration for a special birthday. The cost of the meal was expensive for the service we received and the fact the food was lukewarm, there was no real apology at all and we didn’t have dessert as the children were getting restless as we’d been in there so long already waiting for our main meal. We had 2 extra roast potatoes charged at £1 per potato, come on, £1 for 2 maybe but a £1 each! A very very disappointing experience.

I never usually write reviews and have been here a few times as a small table and the food has always been lovely but we came here for my little brother’s 18th birthday and everything was honestly perfect. We had a big table of 16 which we kept on adding more too, this was no problem at all. Food came out all together, no one was left waiting, every single person was impressed with the food and enjoyed the meal. There was a young team looking after us, they were always smiling, made sure we had enough drinks, brought our cake out and couldn’t do enough for us. We had our own area so we could decorate and didn’t feel like we were interrupting anyone else's meal. Everything was amazing and highly recommend✨

Visited this establishment on 23/01/2024 for a family meal. I GOT FOOD POISONING for two days from an undercooked "Gourmet Burger". Believe me there was nothing Gourmet about it. £15.95 for a Brioche bun, burger, and a slice each of cheese, bacon, lettuce, and tomato. Overpriced and poor portions. First and last time I attend this establishment.

On the Sunday of our trip we were searching the net for somewhere to eat, and found a lot of places were either closed or too similar to what we’d had at lunch, until we came across this place. We booked and even received a text 45 minutes before our booking time saying our table was ready which is something I’ve never had before, nice touch. We went intending to eat something Mexican which we’d seen on the menu online, however on arrival there was only a Sunday menu. Not a problem, we’d seen glowing reviews for the Roasts. I had a soup to start then the lamb roast and my girlfriend had chicken goujons to start then a chicken and beef roast. I had a couple of pints of Peroni and my girlfriend had a Rekordelig. The roast was the best I’ve ever had. Simple as that. If you’re looking at this hoping see about their roasts, just do it.

Had a family Sunday meal with two small children. Very generous portions and friendly staff. Lovely meal with lovely surroundings.

We had one of the best mid-week lunches we had ever tasted. The food was fresh, beautifully cooked piping hot and plentiful. Having tried a few pubs in the area and been a little bit disappointed, it was such a pleasure to find The Boars Head. Absolutely loved it and cannot wait to go back!

Just left this lovely little pub. We had food there and the meals are really large portions & very tasty. The staff are extremely warm and welcoming; they’ll go out of their way to help you. I really fancied a baileys coffee and they actually do decaf coffee (really surprised by this). But they were able to do me a decaf baileys coffee which came out and looked like something you’d buy in a high end restaurant. The prices are more than reasonable. We made another booking before we left as we’re here for a few days away. And was the perfect place for a quick anniversary lunch. Thank you all so much

I recently went there with 9 friends for Sunday lunch. We were on a girls weekend at Bluestone celebrating a couple of 40th birthdays. The staff were wonderful and couldn't have done more to help us enjoy and celebrate. On top of that the Sunday roast for superb! Such good value for money. I and my partner have just experienced the best Sunday lunch we have had and believe me as a 54 year old Yorkshire man I have had many and some very very good ones but I have just had the best one ever I had beef and my partner had lamb every thing about the meals was perfect all hot fresh tasty veg piping hot potatoes and plentiful tasty meats good size portions and good value for money. We are in ludchurch for a week as we where last year and we had a nice bar meal at the boars head which we thought was very good but we thought we would try again with a Sunday lunch and you should definitely try this place all I can say is phenomenal keep up the good work and service guy’s we will be back.

I arrived at the bar approx. 6.30 pm and there were a number of seats free. When I have been in the bar before the seats by the bar were occupied by patrons who were socializing and drinking beer. This time these seats were empty....

Lovely setting but service slow. Sunday vegetables were stacked in one dish which included swede, red cabbage , carrots and french and pod peas . Lovely choice if you like them but I don't like red cabbage and it was there next to swede with beans and carrots on top. Couldn't eat as it put me off. Also no boiled potatoes! I have to say though the beef was delicious . As we waited an hour for the main meal with no one asking us if we were happy with the meal when plates were taken away. We waited another half hour to be asked if we wanted dessert .no one appeared us. We decided the cost of £8 for a crumble was not worth waiting any longer. Poor service and not impressed with how the food was delivered so we will not be returning.

stopped off on the way through to Tenby and had a great meal, there were 9 in our party and the staff were obliging and put tables together for us.The meals were outstanding . The Steak and Ale pies were so tasty. One of the Staff members stood out, Tom couldn't help enough. We returned the following day to dine again, and again had food that all the party were so pleased with. This would be my local if I didn't live 5 hours away. Thank you for the best dinners for our week in Wales.

Called into this lovely pub restaurant a couple of times now on the way back from Pembroke I have only had a drink each time but friends in Penally have recommended the food so next season I will be giving The Boars Head a try

"Love it" friendly staff everytime we go their the food it's fresh, hot and well presented. Plus if you can't eat it all they box it up so you can take home for later fantastic.

Food excellent , the staff were attentive and so efficient this is undoubtedly one of the best Sunday lunches we have had in this part of Wales.

Really disappointed with our experience today. The food is lovely but the service was so slow. They had just taken too many bookings and the kitchen clearly couldn't cope.....all a bit of a shambles. 2 and a half hours for Sunday lunch, main course only (we decided not to wait any longer for our pudding) is not acceptable. Waiting staff are fantastic, but there was only so much they could do. The management needs to be really careful or will lose valuable local custom.

Pasted on way back after a day out Staff very welcoming. Food amazing, but far too much for us. Would have loved to have enough room for dessert but sadly could manage main. I would advise others if small eaters go for childrens portion.

Just had a family meal to celebrate my daughters 13th birthday and by far the Best place we've ever eaten !! ... nothing was too much trouble, the server was very polite, always smiling & helpful. Great gastro pub, tasty homemade food . Can highly recommend lasagne, cod and chilli . Great atmosphere with very efficient happy staff. We obviously had to have Eton mess , lemon tart and sticky toffee and they were all fab . Thank you for a fab birthday meal .

Food was amazing, however we were put in the bar area (didn’t know until we arrived) it was loud, noisy people stood at the bar swearing, group of 7 stood waiting for their drinks and watching us eat. Then a group of 3 arrived to drink in the bar area, 2 sat at table and one in the fireplace right next to me whilst I was eating (no more than a foot away) and made me feel uncomfortable. This would put me off going back. I did mention to the waitress who said table were allocated on the system! But did not fetch or speak to a manager. Such a real shame as the food was outstanding!

Really disappointing food. I ordered the fish and chips and most of the batter was so hard it was inedible. When asked how my food was I told the waitress that most of my fish was too hard to eat and she simple replied with “would you like the see the desert menu” Was not offered alternative, any kind of apology or discount. Definitely would not recommend.

Excellent service and food. Staff were so quick serving us. The balti curry and nachos were the best we've had. Would recommend highly.
