Stopped off here for a spot of lunch because the famous Betty's had a long queue. On first impressions the place was shabby & in need of a scrub. However, we ordered lunch which took forever considering it was fairly empty. My husband thought his was ok, quite nice chilli really. But mine was pretty awful. Side salad I couldn't eat because it was limp & fit for the bin. The French onion soup was in fact onion slop. The French would be appalled! Tasteless! The prawn sandwich was okish but we only had kitchen paper towel to wipe ourselves with instead of cheap servettes. The staff were scuffy & not what I thought Harrogate eateries were about. Music was good though!!!

Came across this place by accident and thought we'd give it a try as we don't come across a restaurant specialising in Egyptian cuisine every day of the week (well not in North Wales!). What a lovely change from the 'usual'! We were greeted very nicely and shown to our seats upstairs. The service, overall, was excellent, the waiter charming, without being too much so, and attentive. The food was really good but saying that it does not do it service. We had Mahshi (stuffed vine leaves) and Hummus to start - both of which were very tasty and just enough for a 'starter'. For the main courses we had Shawerma (slices of lamb marinated in herbs) and chicken fatta (a traditional Egyptian celebratory dish) and we could not fault them. Both courses excited the taste buds and were very different. We'd certainly would return if we were in Harrogate again. The décor is interesting in the upstairs restaurant. There are two murals on the opposite walls, one is obviously a representation of the great film 'Casablanca' (starring Humphrey Bogart) but we could not ascertain what the other one was - anyone know?To finish the evening off, a brilliant night of blues music in the downstairs bar. Great night!!

Great location as its in the centre of town so easy to get to. Every dish we tried was great. Hani provided us with a selection of dishes to try as it was our first time at an Egyptian restaurant so we really got a feel for the flavours and spices in each dish. The tagine is one of the nicest dishes i have ever had. Saying that, with our starters we we're given a huge basket of pita breads so you can get a satisfying meal if that's your thing.Service was friendly and efficient and drinks very well priced. We will definitely return, just wished they opened on a Sunday evening.

A friendly gaffer and welcoming locals (I even got a round of applause for my awful parking when I pulled up outside!!!). The Blue Nile restaurant upstairs is a little gem...authentic Egyptian cuisine prepared by Hanni, a Cairo native. Pleasant surroundings and relaxed middle eastern vibe to the decor with a silk-tented ceiling, sofas and deep cushions...almost like being back in Egypt...but with a view overlooking the scenic green outside. We had Gandolfi (green lip mussels) & hummus, to start, followed by a prawn tagine and shish chicken . Great food, good prices, friendly staff...and wonderful real live music downstairs too. Definitely worth a detour..but give yourself enough time to take in the upstairs restaurant AND the live music in the downstairs bar.

The title of this review really sums up how I feel about this restaurant. I went here after googling for a good restaurant in Harrogate, and stumbled across this gem (and it really is a gem). There is a great ambience as soon as you walk into the restaurant upstairs. Greeted by the charming owner Hanni, we were shown to our table and given a menu. There wasn't a single thing on the menu we wouldn't have ordered and in the end could not decide so had to ask Hanni to recommend something. The food arrived and was sublime, every mouthful full of flavour and delicious. We had never tried Egyptian before and I can honestly say after this experience that it was completely delicious and although we live almost an hour away from this restaurant we WILL be travelling back for more! We had a lovely chat with the owner who was passionate about food (and music - which is handy with the blues bar downstairs!). Overall a wonderful experience that I am going to recommend to all that will listen! My boyfriend and I can't wipe the smiles off our faces! This bar is located in the center of town just down from the famous Bettys Tea shop. The Blues cafe is the best place in town. I was with 5 friends on the Friday and 3 friends on the Sunday.
