Blue Cumin in Monmouthshire

It’s been taken over in the last few months and the food has gone down hill. It used to be our favourite but the new chef has an oil fetish and makes you feel sick. Out of two dishes I drained a third of oil full into an empty dish. The wife had king prawn dish, had two prawns and the rest was made up of onions to fill in the blank. Sent pictures and a complaint to the restaurant. Never heard back won’t be going back unfortunately.

Never ever a bad meal from here.

Avoid this "indian" its vile. My rajasthan was full of oil its made me feel physically sick, the naan was cold and barely had any meat in it, and whatever was in it didn't resemble lamb at all. Gajon bhaji wasnt even a bhaji but a greasy mess of barely cooked Carrots and onions, no seasoning across the board everything was bland, oily and generally unpleasant. First time I've had a takeaway in a long time and I'm fuming tbh not what I wanted after a 14 hour shift in my own kitchen 🤣 saving grace was the samosas, not great but not awful and they're probably frozen and bought in so I can't count them for that

Best Indian restaurant in the village - and surrounding area for a fact. We had a brilliant evening, drinks, poppadoms, starters and mains... we didn't get photos, because we were so hungry and the food looked amazing 😋 we just tucked in! We are moving out of the area soon and are really quite annoyed we found this little gem too late, however glad we had the chance to try it here before we left. The staff are so friendly and knowledgeable, they were able yo recommend meals based on your preference. The chef used fresh ingredients and this shows with the quality of the food! Would definitely recommend and will hopefully be back again before we move

Ordered via Just Eat at 18.15, was told it would be delivered between 19.15 and 19.35. Was not delivered until 20.10 and the meal came without any salads or mint sauces. The food was ok, but not the same as we have had in the restaurant so was very disappointed to be honest. Won't be ordering from there again sadly

Good food, good atmosphere, food took quite long to get to us though, busy day I suppose.

I wouldn’t recommend blue cumin at all to anyone. The price you pay you should have a decent size portion curry and rice but just felt ripped off. Also the the waiter the tall guy was rude and very arrogant when I questioned him about the portion size and then he started comparing to other Indian restaurants in the area. Was not a pleasant experience and I would defo not return.

Absolutely excellent food. Best Indian food I've eaten in a long time. Staff were particularly thoughtful towards the special needs guest with me.

Absolutely awful. Worst curry ever. Starter was tasteless and not worth £4.10. Mains were also without flavour. Will not be going back. Not worth the money.

Can I give zero stars to this restaurant. Ordered chicken rogan Josh, which was tomatoes puree with 2 chicken slices in it. It had raw undercooked chicken it. No taste at all. The tandoori chicken had no flavours, no taste, no masala. The biryani was not cooked properly with rice still raw. The keema Nan had no keema in it just few red coloured chicken in it. The food was horrible and non palatable, threw most of it. Gulped down the nans since was too tired to go out and buy more food.

Visited Blue Cumin tonight and I have to say it is probably the best curry I have ever had. If you are looking for a good Indian r restaurant this is a must. Staff are amazing and the food is outstanding.

Tasty food, fast service and a fair price. This is the second time I've ordered from here and I will continue to do so.

Mediocre meal. Rice bought in and poor quality. Naan tiny. My husbands mushroom pilau rice wouldn't have served a baby. Totally lacking in flavour

Very nice. But (warning!) hottest vindaloo I've ever had - remember it was the same about a year ago (I'm not from here) and never had to bottle it and change choices before. But saying that it was still nice! As was the other stuff.

Very decent, popped in for a takeaway. Good and friendly service with pre ordering. Spicy chips were superb and a great idea Eesa Mishti Tokh was nice, though portion could have been bigger Murgi Naan was OK - but could have done with more filling

fantastic little gem of a restaurant,food always spot on & staff really friendly & attentive.

I haven’t been here for years but we came again last night and the food was stunning, just as I remembered. Couldn’t fault the staff either for putting up with drunken us talking rubbish. The lovely man serving us had great banter and we enjoyed chatting to him. The wait wasn’t long at all and even if it was it would of been worth it. Definitely recommend and will be using Blue Cumin more often from now on.

A little treasure. Had a sit down meal last night food was fantastic and the service was the same. The recommendation was spot on to my taste. Well worth a visit or if you can’t get to the square they do a delivery service. One of the tastiest Indians to date. Will be back.

Takeaway disappointing not the value I’m expecting. Meat not cooked in the sauce therefore bland and lacked any flavour. The chicken was raw on the inside. Won’t be going back.

Visited here for a sit down meal Fri 8/4/22..... soon became obvious things have changed here. Id like to state I've been coming here 5 years. New staff. Waited a while for the waiter to come and take our order... we were the only ones sat in the restaurant part just 2 of us. Finally our order was taken.... We soon noticed the delivery driver literally coughing his guts up... going in and out of the kitchen. Continuously coughing.... by this point another table was occupied and we even spoke to them about the coughing. They agreed the driver shouldn't be in work coughing like that. The food came and it was obvious again that things have changed here. My husband ordered a Madras sauce which looked liked puree sweet potato I had a chicken pasanda again same consistency like puree veg and thick. Pasandas are creamy and pale not orange. Chicken was tough. The Garlic Naan was tough and chewy. Our food came to £35 . I'd avoid this place if you know curry like we do. Bland and weird. Baby food comes too mind. Service was poor too. Obvious new ppl have taken over and new chefs. Won't return.

Good choice; tasty and spicy; delivery quick and smooth, and food still hot.

Local hotel very poor so came to Magor village , Blue Cumin a great choice. Fish starter very fresh in a light batter and well presented. Lamb Rajasthan with chef sauce and potatoes really good very tender and perfect rice. Good portions and reasonable price. Service great will come again, carrot Bhaji interesting and a tasty change

Amazing food! 1st time visiting on Friday and absolutely loved it! Will be back soon.

Haven't eaten in for a while...but after spending 6 months in hospital until September, since getting home we've ordered 5 or 6 takeaways for home delivery and they have all been absoloutely stunning.

The food was good, the service was good, well worth a try.

We took take away from Blue cumin, Newport and it was worst ever taste we could ever imagine. They have no idea how to cook few dishes. Tikka chicken masala was just chicken tikka soaked in (a lot of )tomato puree.Garlic Mushroom starter was unimaginably watery and tasteless. Never will recommend to anyone ever.

Decided to have a saturday night treat takeaway, was recommended Blue Cumin away from our usual Night of Bengal in Caldicot. Delivery came on time and very polite driver. We ordered chicken masala which was very short on chicken!, also a chicken saag, which was very tasteless. onion bhaji were the smallest I've ever had, and again tasteless. On a positive note the rice, keema naan and chips were ok. Very disappointed, and ended the meal unsatified. Will not be returning!! Not going to waste any more of my hard earnt money on take aways, going to learn and cook my own take in!!

Fantastic. Only one person service and taking phone orders...he did an amazing job, and the food was excellent.

We have used the Blue Cumin for a number of years. We have eaten in and taken delivery of takeaways on many occasions. To my mind this has to be the best food in the area. The team are always polite and courteous. Thank you Blue Cumin!

First takeaway in a v long time. Have to say it was perfect. Delivered on time, hot and v tasty. Definitely recommend.

Another great Takeaway this week, normally eat in but during lockdown had a few takeaways, always tasty and hot.

This used to be the go to place for our takeaway. The last 2 have changed that as the Poppadoms were much thinner ( less bubbly ) and a number of them burnt but also the chicken pieces which used to be very moist and tender are now more dried out and some chewy. It's a shame as reliability in what you're going to get is key in your " go to " takeaway and no one wants to get home to thin / burnt poppadoms and some chewy chicken bits

Thankfully the Blue Cumin has reopened for takeaway food😀 We have had a couple of meals from them. Meals were swiftly delivered. The quality is second to none. This is how Indian meals should be. The menu offers usual favourites but also some more unusual choices. Well worth trying the Blue Cumin house specials. Lovely food and really nice people too! Thoroughly recommend!!

First visit to Blue Cumin after a friend's recommendation. Table booked for 7pm and by 715pm no offer of a drink or ability to order anything. No one else in restaurant just sat there being ignored by staff. Decided to leave and the guy on reception couldn't careless. Went to the Knight of Bengal instead where we received first class food and service. Very disappointed by Blue Cumin as it was highly recommended.

We have both eaten here and get regular takeaways. Great menu of regular as well as special dishes. Food is always quality. The staff are always friendly and pleased to see you.

Just had a meal here and it was awesome. The guys serving you are so good, I wish I worked with someone as efficient lol. Seriously though, super service, professional team and always happy to help with the times when you cannot decide ;) I would recomend trying them out for sure.

Take away was recommended by a friend our order a quite simple chicken madras and chicken saag. Meal was way off standard madras was sweet chicken saag dry and tasteless. Complaint via telephone was quite positive they agreed they had got the order wrong and they did offer to replace at the time but this was not practicable instead said would delay until next time. Next time they changed their mind denied offer to replace and offered a discount. Not good enough so stay away do not deal with this mean little man

We had a nice take away from here with an excellent lentil dish and some other curries. They had some things I've never seen on a curry takeaway that were good but a slightly disappoint dansak. Their prawn dishes were on point but the naan was a bit small. Also no popadoms added with the take away, which was a shame.

One of the best indian restaurants around.....Ever!!! The service is quick and efficient and the food is beautiful. Highly recommend anyone to visit here :)

We were pointed in the direction of this restaurant by the golf professional at Llanwern. He was right as the four of us had one of the best curries we had for years. We all tried dishes from their specials list and no one was disappointed. Service was good and on a Wednesday evening there was surprisingly only three tables in use. I thoroughly enjoyed our meal, particularly as we all tried something different from our normal choices.

Excellent food and great service. The Chicken Jalfrezi was delicious and the Naan Breads were great. The have Cobra, Kingfisher, Bangla and some British beers at a reasonable price.

Regularly use the Blue Cumin as a takeaway service to llandevaud. Must say have never been dissapointed and last night was not an exception. Great meal.

This is the Third time I’ve visited this restaurant and I have to say I am blow away by the quality of the food here, I’ve eaten in many an Indian Restaurant over the years and not many have come close to the quality of the food that is served in this restaurant, it’s one of those tucked away little gems you’d like to keep a secret to yourself but are super impressed by it that you feel compelled to share, my only criticism would be that the restaurant area is a bit tucked away. The service is brilliant also from the manager Abdul to the owner Faisal, very attentive and personable people, give it a try if you’re in the area, I’m sure you won’t be disappointed

We got invited to the blue cumin Indian restaurant by friends who live local and I must say it didn’t disappoint. This was our first time and I must say the service and food was excellent, we shall be back.

Warm friendly welcome along with knowledgeable staff make this a real eating pleasure.

I wanted to try fish passander which wasn't on the menu but they made if for me no trouble - delightful. Nice and quiet with attentive and informative staff.

I was in the area for football and was recommended this restaurant by a local taxi driver. I can only say that the people who run this place are fantastic. The food was exceptional, the service was fantastic. The waiter took time to advise what specials were available and what our tastes were. What was recommended was absolutely fabulous. The whole experience was top quality and the staff went above and beyond to ensure we had a great night. Thanks guys.Definitely recommend this place.

After our usual local Indian restaurant closed we had struggled to find another that we liked as much. We tried a takeaway from the Blue Cumin initially and it was excellent and have since eaten in the restaurant.Our orders both for takeaways and dine were freshly prepared and pipping hot, good portion size and no scrimping on the chicken/lamb etc. The staff are so polite and courteous, a real pleasure to eat here.

Excellent take away meal tonight everything was tasty and good with excellent service. Chicken was succulent and not over cooked like some restaurants.

We recently had a few great evenings at The Blue Cumin, with both family & friends, celebrating various events. The staff could not have been more helpful, with excellent service. The extensive menu provides for all tastes & the food was both plentiful & delicious. We would thoroughly recommend this lovely little restaurant to anyone.

Food very poor, Mango house all the way!

Had a very nice meal here . Lovely butter chicken. My boyfriend had a nice madras and mum had a very nice chicken biriyani. Naan bread and chips were nice too.

Great place, in the square of Major. The venue itself is a bit of a tardis. Service was attentive, but the venue needs to inject atmosphere. Food, on all dishes was excellent.

Lovely food, had as a takeaway during the great blizzards of 2018. Delicious curry and naan bread, would certainly recommend and certainly worth the small wait time

A nice warm welcome on a very rainy evening. Great service, Good madras, quality rice and chips. very reasonable wine list . Would have given 5 stars, but let down by a very poor NAN bread. But we'll be back !

Magoría es una preciosa aldea a sólo por el puente en el sur de Gales. Este restaurante fue una excelente encontrar después de visitar la zona durante años. Acompañado por aproximadamente 10 compañeros de trabajo que descendía en el restaurante en una hermosa noche de veranos a finales de julio. Me alegro de haberlo hecho.
