My friends and I had an excellent coffee in this venue while on a Coach Trip. Was delighted to see that the venue was well laid out and had loads to offer in the way of food and drink. Will definitely be back. Would thoroughly recommend this place.

Used to visit Blacksmith a couple of times a year before COVID. Recently returned for shopping and lunch but left very disappointed. The restaurant itself was not hygienically clean, tables were sticky and carpet was a mess. The selection of food was very minimal compared to our past experiences. Will not be returning unless improves.

After a week long holiday at Windermere we were on our way home to Livingston, West Lothian. Gretna Green is a regular stopping point on such journeys in order to stretch our legs, use the toilet facilities, and have some refreshments as it is about mid point in travelling time between the two.Because of the effect that Covid 19 was having on the country we have never seen the car park at Gretna Green so quiet. Also some of the attractions/shops were shut. Blacksmiths Restaurant was however open. It had been our intention to get a packet of sandwiches each and a coffee. The sandwiches when we saw them looked deadly dull. Poor looking bread and basic, really basic, looking fillings. We deided then to have a bowl of soup each along with a roll. The soup was actually very tasty, some sort of vegetable mix but the rolls had been pre prepared with some sort of foul tasting spread, we didn't think it was butter, and we had to scrape it off the rolls. We really should have bought sandwiches at the Booths Supermarket in Windermere before we set off on our journey.

Have previously had lunch here and food was very good. This time we were really disappointed. The food was cold, steak in the pie was not good quality and the vegetables was obviously not fresh. Scones were not as enjoyable as on previous visits. We also had coffees to go with our meal and they were cold as well. Will not be visiting again.

Had lunch here last week. The meat in the steak pie was nice but the rest of the meal was just average. Frozen veg, watery gravy and lukewarm mash. The scone was ok but quite claggy. For 2 steak pie lunches, 2 scones, 1 tea and 1 coffee it was about £27 which I think is very overpriced for the quality.

The salt was salty (always start with a good point). The alleged chips felt and tasted like cardboard. The little round green things didn't taste of anything. The white yellow and orange flabby thing tasted of rancid. The Reddy stuff with spirally white bits in tasted of disgusting. Neither of us could mnage a third mouthful. The bottle of orange juice was juicy and tasted of orange (always finish on a positive).Seriously, guys; don't stop here. Scotland has an undeserved reputation for bad cuisine. This place supports the myth. It was nearly fifteen minutes befpre I could get the taste out of my mouth. I really can't think of suitable words to express how utterly vile the stuff we were sold as meals was.

We all had scones (different varieties) but they were all extremely dry and hard. So much so we didn't eat all of them which is a pity because they looked divine. We arrived for around 12 so they should have been fresh but they clearly weren't. Disappointing. Will try somewhere else for food next time we are in the area.

The Blacksmiths restaurant seemed to be the only place that we could get a substantial meal. My husband had the carvery, which at £8.20 was okay. There was a generous serving of pork, Yorkshire pud, choice of potatoes and veg. I would have had the same except that there was no choice of veg, just the dreaded (frozen) mixed veg., which was a no no when I cannot stand peas. I opted for the vegetarian curry and rice. This was poor, with very watery sauce, a handful of veg and some chunks of quorn. Not good value. The place is busy and staff were not managing to keep up with clearing and cleaning tables.

We decided to visit gretna on our way home from the most wonderful break in the yarrow valley.Everything we had experienced thus far was traditional and provided us with wonderful memories of Scotland.I suppose like many people we had a fairly romantic image of Gretna in our heads cut to it's history and the wonderful stories we've heard.Unfortunately our experience was one of disappointment. As you approach you have to travel through what appears to be a typical council estate and so immediately our ideal was shattered.Upon locating this little village first impressions were "oh dear".There's no denying the original buildings are quaint and it is pretty in its own way, but like many historical attractions, it has been turned into nothing more than a venue to make money. The shops were expensive, especially the food shop. The restaurant was no better than a simple hot plate canteen. Choice of food was very limited and pricy. If you're curious about the history then Gretna is worth a visit, however make sure you purchase all your knickaks and Souvenir's whilst in Scotland as you will pay through the nose in Gretna. The best thing to take away is a few fotos!!!

Travelling south today, our coach stopped here for the required break. The layout of the main courses was confusing to say the least but I ordered what could see and shot looked nice which was a steak pie with chips and gravy. Sadly, the food didn't live up to its visual appeal. I can't deny that the pie was absolutely stuffed with steak but it was lukewarm. It had obviously been kept warm for quite some time and the crust was totally inedible since it was so hard my knife wouldn't penetrate. The chips were no better. Like little rubber dowels. The gravy was also lukewarm but it was useful for softening the chips. I looked in the cold cabinet at the sandwiches. Well what a sad offering I saw there. A ham sandwich looked like a thin slice of ham between two slices of bread with nothing else to adorn it. What about a lettuce leaf, or tomato or cucumber or even a touch or mustard. No effort was made at all since I doubt they rely on repeat trade but what I saw was little more than an insult.

This restaurant is pretty hit and miss, in my experience, and luckily my most recent visit was a hit! Half of the hot plates were empty and unmanned, so not sure if a switcharound is on the cards, as it always seemed that half the counters were unnecessary anyway! I always opt for whatever pasta bake is on offer there, as it is always nice, and this time I had macaroni cheese with chips, and it was all good. The others with me opted for Cumberland sausage with veg, and a sausage casserole. Both found them nice but nothing special, with the sausage a little soft for both. We had soft drinks from the self serve machines, which are reasonably priced, and the restaurant itself has ample seating and is kept clean even at busy times. We stopped here both ways for our holiday in Scotland. Very clean and tidy. Reasonably priced and nice to find a bar there!

We had lunch here and the steak pies were yummy! We also had drinks and cakes. There was a wedding going on as we got there which added to the atmosphere. The food was good, the coffees and teas were good, the tray bake cakes were very tasty. A nice place on a sunny day.

We stopped in here on a bus trip South. The comfort break was most welcome but, the restaurant was kind of average. Not very well organised when we were there!

Recently stopped at Gretna for lunch on our way home from Loch Lomond with National Holidays. We where famished. We both had lasagne, chips and peas and it was delicious hearty food; a lovely big portion and really tasty. The staff where very friendly and accomodating. Will definitely stop here again on our next trip.

Visited the Blacksmiths at Gretna Green Jan 2016,Be aware when buying a cup of tea,If you get one in a takeaway cup you will be told you cannot sit down to drink it,it must be in a pot cup, there is no notice to say this on entry so be careful.

So my husband an I visited for a Saturday lunchtime, I thought the place was closed to begin with as it had no atmosphere and the staff were all chatting among theirselves and serving their own food. However yes was open, and we weren't met by the most friendliest woman who was very impatient when we were ordering. My husband fancied the gammon which was really juicy and moist so ordered this however she soon removed the cover and served him one that I swear was the driest bit of gammon iv ever seen i laughed because I really didn't know how he was going to eat it without a steak knife! I got some soup and a slice of bread and we got 2 soft drinks. £15 in total which isn't too bad but for the quality... Not worth it! Tasteless soup, and the gammon.... I think iv said enough! Really just not a nice lunch at all. Was like an old fashioned school dinner

For quick services & tasty food, we found this restaurant good & reasonable. They even offer choice to select food including Indian and pay for what you buy. Only long queuing at the counter to settle bill.

Terrible attitude and no service, after queuing behind two coach loads of people arriving at the counter there was little remaining - a few mushrooms and alike. On asking the "staff" how long until bacon etc would be available, we were told well breakfast finishes soon (15 minute) there will be no more cooked. Two people going elsewhere
