We have stayed in Lastingham 7 times now, where the Blacksmith's has played a stong part in our decision to return. We have seen some changes in this time; especially since we last visited - pre-covid - and those changes have only enhanced the experience and scope of the pub. The garden for instance has has a miraculous transformation and became our go-to for the week whilst were there. Inside has not changed too much, other than to freshen up or update needed functions.Other comments are: Pizzas are awesome, staff friendly, menu extensive (love the lamb and mint pie), new cider on tap is great (Inche's) and the sea food platter is generous and awesome. We're already booked to be back next Easter '22!

We stayed in Lastingham for 3 nights and had all 3 of our evening meals here which were fantastic. Even though pub was busy each night, the service was excellent and we were well cared for. There was a lovely lady who served us on the Monday night, who made us an excellent sundae after the original flavour on the menu didn't take our fancy. We wished we had stayed more nights to get to sample more of the menu but the steak and ale pie, sea food salad and fish and chip were all amazing. Great little gem in the countryside that is made better by the brilliant staff.

I expect this pub survives as it is in a glorious setting and has little competition in the village. Our impression was that we were not particularly welcome, service was slow. We asked for a menu but one never materialized and gave up in the end. Perhaps it's just me but I felt they were more concerned with maintaining covid regulations than making a living. The beer was excellent.

We have loved the pub for many years but there’s a distinctive change in appearance and ambience . The character seems to have been removed . The entrance hall looks cheap with the wine rack in it and the bar is illuminated whereas it used to be darker and full of atmosphere. I may be wrong but the style now is bland. It’s probably been updated but just feels cheap. Lots of pine tables in the dining room - standard, adding to the lack of character. No guest beers on and the only cider is Strongbow. Heart breaking really that another pub has deteriorated unnecessarily. I do wish the old landlord best wishes, however. He was excellent. Overall it feels depressing. The seating area facing the pub was shabby too.

In a nutshell I almost never complain about poor food however…1. 20 minutes to take drinks order2. starter was cold duck on some greenery with a blob of sauce3. Fish pie very good but too small for the price4. Leaks were full of grit and inedible, the server said she would mention this to whoever but that was the last I heard.5. My second drinks order came to the table as I was about to leave, no apology6. Nice pub shame about the food

Service was prompt and attentive, and the roast beef lunch was delicious. Lots of vegetables, including red cabbage, peas, carrots, mangetout and corn. Beer was pretty good too, I am told.

We attended this Pub whilst staying at the nearby Kelsy Forest Holiday site after looking for a local pub and we are so glad we did. The food was absolutely wonderful and even though there may have been a wait for the food due to everything being freshly made and the kitchen being a chief down, something the exceptionally rude family next to us didn't understand! The staff were are super friendly and helpful, even going above and beyond to prepare a starter that had been removed from the menu the previous day.If you are ever in the area and are looking for an amazing meal slightly off the beaten track I highly recommend visiting!

Set in the beautiful village of Lastingham under the shadow of an ancient old church, this is a gem of a pub. Beer selection was excellent and food was too. Ordered a side of gravy with my fish and chips and that combination was made in heaven. The chips were the nicest I’ve had in decades and when dipped in the gravy became a thing of wonder! Only downside is it is very remote so someone has to drive. Taxis are hard to come by so when ours fell through for our journey home, a couple of locals offered to drop us off on their way home. All added up to a first class experience all round.

A vast stay of covered areas, seating to suit all requirements. Lovely smelling wood fired pizza oven. Outdoor heaters also. Good social distancing measures in place. Happy, helpful staff. I had smoked haddock risotto (starter as a light lunch) and my husband has anti pasti wood fired pizza. We shared some Parmesan chips - real chips that is! Local real ales and local gin and tonics. Good value, worth the wait. Excellent on food allergy / intolerance and a list of produce supplies - locally sourced! Defo come again!

We recently spent a great holiday on the North Yorkshire Moors. We walked miles every day, one of the goals being to find a different pub to visit for lunch each day! It wasn’t hard to find a number of great hostelries in this part of the world and the Blacksmith’s Arms was no exception. Really great welcome, delicious food and charming staff, who looked after us beautifully. It was a lovely day and, although we’d booked inside there was no problem about moving us out into the lovely, really imaginatively arranged garden (lots of attractive cover should the rain have blown in). They also have a wood burning pizza oven if that takes your fancy. Excellent beers (including Theakstons Old Peculiar, much to my husband’s delight) and a really sensibly sized menu, catering for all tastes and pockets. Excellent place and I thoroughly recommend a visit.

Lovely village pub with fantastic menu choices, found it difficult to choose as there were so many delicious options. The food was very tasty and service was superb, staff were friendly and attentive. Lots of consideration was given to making the experience covid safe; three choices of track and trace, toilet occupancy signs outside, sanitiser stations, table service and division screens. Although I did not like the divisions screens too much, plexi glass might be better but they served a purpose and the pub has done well. This however does not affect the rating I gave. Lovely place.

We had decided to do a last minute walk & pub meal In Ryedale on a Saturday before kids went back to uni. My husband had phoned several pubs but all were booked for Saturday evening, however the lady who answered the phone at the Blacksmith Arms couldn’t have been more helpful. She suggested we try them at around 4. We found the helpfulness continue with all the staff when we arrived. They were happy to prepare a table inside the pub when we asked if we could relocate from the garden (lucky as it poured down wirh rain shortly afterwards!) The pub is traditionally cosy & had excellent COVID safe measures in place including a one way system & hanging plastic curtains separating each table. Our main courses were all good sizes - especially the jumbo fish & chips. My son’s steak & ale pie was the best he’d had & my scampi & chips were definitely one of, if not the best I’d had. The scampi was amazing. The triple cooked chips just melted in the mouth.Although full, we couldn’t resist the excellent pudding menu & they didn’t disappoint- with the apple & raspberry crumble with custard a winner - again an excellent portion size - with 2 of us easily sharing. We had a fabulous relaxed family meal and would definitely recommend the Blacksmith Arms for a homely, welcoming, delicious & good value family meal. We will be back. Thank you

My husband and I ate here while staying nearby in Stape. Definitely the best meal we had while in the Yorkshire Moors and was not overpriced like many places seem to be in the area. We both had yorkshire puddings as a starter and the only niggle (and main reason not 5*) was that one was still slightly frozen. The lamb and mint pie for mains was lovely. It isn't gourmet quality but good, honest food and just what you need after a day walking on the moors.

Did a little Google as you do in an attempt to find a quiet little place tucked away from the rest of the world en route home for us from a weekend break near Saltburn (Loftus).A phone call just to check we were ok to bring our two Jack Russell's and Bob's your uncle as it were.Arrived in the early afternoon 24/8/20 to find the most lovely of settings in Lastingham village just across from St Marys Church. The weather couldn't have been better..perfect in fact for taking a table in the garden at the rear of the pub. There are a few tables at the front if preferred. All Covid stuff is competently adhered to. No need to go inside apart from a visit to the loo. If inside you'll find all tables separated by screens.Table service is provided outside and again have to say the young chap and the rest of the staff were excellent and polite. The food was delicious... Portion size ( i had the belly pork with proper chips and veg & Dawn a special salad) was ample. Puds were yum too.Such a relaxing place...if there were hassle's going on because of the Eat Out to Help Out they most certainly weren't evident.Even without the discount prices were very reasonable. No price hike because of location etc, unlike a pub we visited the day before (Horseshoe Hotel,Egton Bridge) who were fleecing all-comers.Talking of fleece lol....You may find you will be sharing your visit with the flock of sheep that graze around the village freely, however not inside the pubs boundaries. For us it was the perfect place to briefly unwind on our homeward journey.Just wish we lived a little closer... I hope we'll be able to visit again some day.

I cycled past this pub in November, thought how nice it looked, and vowed to return on a walk which I’ve now done. And the verdict? It’s every bit as good inside as it looks from the outside.I particularly liked the old black iron fireplace, scores of pewter tankards hanging from the beams and cosiness which made it perfect for a winter’s day. I had venison and mushroom pie and my daughter had fish pie, both excellent, as were the cheesy leeks veg and our desserts of chocolate terrine and apple and plum crumble. Very good value @ c £10-16 for mains. Large menu too. The lunch was undeniably nice, there was a good selection of ales, the waitress was so helpful and kind and the pub was charming but the landlady was incredibly rude and dismissive. My 84 year old very frail mother just mentioned that she found the dining room a little chilly. You would have thought under the circumstances that such a remark would have been met with some understanding. Not a bit of it. My mother was not prepared for such a rebuke and dressing down and was quite shocked. We will not return to a pub, however pleasant the place is, if the owner has so little respect for the customers, especially that are vulnerable and less able to defend themselves.

We booked in for Sunday lunch whilst staying in the area. After a brisk chilly walk from Hutton le Hole we were welcomed into a cosy bar area with a roaring open fire. We were given our table number for the restaurant and ordered at the bar. The food arrived promptly - slices of beautiful local lamb, a huge Yorkshire pudding, crispy homemade roast potatoes and a selection of vegetables on the side, as well as a generous portion of rich meaty gravy. It was wonderful. All for a very reasonable price. All the staff including the waiting on staff were very friendly and helpful. The Malbec wine also deserves a special mention - delicious! Would thoroughly recommend and will visit again when we're next in the area. Thank you!!!

Smashing pub. Fine food, not sure how they manage it as the menu is long, something for everyone. Beer and wine also excellent, service friendly and efficient. We especially like the proper restaurant area, also that it's a pub for local residents as well. It would be nice if they got rid of the unfunny rude cartoons in the gents though.

Apleasant meal catching up with friends. Food was fine but took a while to arrive - didn't matter to us as we had a lot to talk about. By the time we finished our mains about 9pm we were the only ones in the restaurant but didn't feel we were being hurried out.

Sadly, i didn't get the chance to grab a cold drink at this quiet pub because i was quite rudely turned away before i had the chance to ask if it was dog friendly. I was simply told "dogs aren't allowed" and i was waved away. It's quite unusual these days for a pub (and indeed its owner) to be so unfriendly towards dogs and dog owners, so i'd give this place a miss if you are one.

Four of us called for an early evening meal in this warm and welcoming country pub. The service was prompt and friendly, the surroundings were charming and the meal was lovely. The fish pie was one of the best, if not the best I have ever eaten and I have eaten a lot of fish pies. We will definitely be back.

This fabulous gastropub served me, possibly, the best fish and chips that IO have ever eaten and all of it suitable for a highly food allergic person like myself. Nothing was too much trouble for the excellent staff. What an evening!

Perhaps a little out of the way but well worth the drive. The menu is varied and extensive and at first this concerned me but the food was fresh, well cooked and delicious. We went twice within a week with different company and I can say no one was disappointed, the prices are reasonable and most of the staff were friendly and welcoming. We live fairly locally to this establishment and were not aware it was there, but I can honestly say I could recommend it to others in fact we have a holiday cottage and it’s now on suggestions of where to eat in the area.

A friendly village pub. The staff are attentive without being pushy. There is a good selection of food, which is extremely well cooked and presented. The children's menu is very good and treats the children as young adults. The whole atmosphere is conducive to relaxing and enjoying the food.

This pub restaurant it an absolute gem. Just about the nicest old English pub you could find and in the very beautiful village of Lastingham. This is in the centre of "Heartbeat"country without the crowds. You could just sit for hours in the bar and let it take you back in time over a drink or two, the ambience is perfect.

Visited on a Wednesday lunchtime, and whilst there were spare tables and the pub was not “at capacity” the food service was terribly slow. I’d bought a pint to go with food, and to make it last during the wait I’d gone so slowly that it was warm. I reckon it was 40 mins wait for a sandwich.

We visited here last night for an evening meal as we were staying about 3 1/2 miles away and it was recommended by our B&B.; The pub was olde worlde and to say it seemed to be in the middle of nowhere, it was full. We were shown straight to our booked table. The staff were very friendly and the food was good. We both had steak and ale pie and it was a large portion and very tasty with crisp shortcrust pastry. Just as well we didn't order starters as we wouldn't have managed to eat everything. Was hoping for a dessert but was too full! The drive there from Kirkbymoorside was fun. The lanes were narrow and full of free roaming sheep so we only travelled at 25 miles per hour and had to stop a few times until the sheep moved. Even though it was summer it was a grey drizzly night so it was dark and misty when we left. Beware the lanes are not lit and the sheep were still in the road. Having said that, it wouldn't stop me returning if I was staying in the area.

This is a quaint pub in the popular village of Lastingham which I first visited with mt Dad in 1942. Much of the fabric inside is still the same but the lunchtime restaurant is much changed..There is a quite extensive menu priced , not cheaply but reasonably, and I challenge anyone not to find something suitable for them. My wife and I chose the seafood platter which was lovely and followed it up with a fattening, but lovely dessert. All in all, very nice and the beer wasn't bad either!
