Consistently delicious!. Wonderful dinner of Arancini, followed by duck breast with apple, fabulous vegetables and a rich sauce. Had to share the chocolate brownie because it’s incredibly filling. The wood burner provided a cosy atmosphere on a miserable wet evening. The staff, as always were friendly and efficient. Couldn’t fault a thing.

After reading the reviews and people have really rated this pub,not for me starter was nice steak was ok peppercorn sauce was like water with no taste, the chip were double fried l think they were fried about 10 times soggy and burnt . Service was slow hence will not be returning.

I have been here numerous times and this was by far my worst experience. 1 of the party ordered parsnip soup and came out as red pepper and was barely warm it went back to the kitchen and came back hot but with no spoon, by now all the other people had finished their starters we ordered more drinks and after 25 minutes we had to reorder as our order went missing, as part of the order we asked for more water again this never arrived even after a 3rd request The whole experience was disappointing and not what I expected from what used to be my favourite place

Went on a Friday evening and was warmly greeted at the door. All evening the staff were great, helpful and knowledgeable. Food came in good time and we were really well attended too. Starters (scallops and chicken) and desert (sticky toffee pudding) were superb, really tasty and good portion sizes. Only reason for 4 instead of 5 stars was the mains slightly disappointed. Chicken burger was pretty avg and a little dry. Sea bass was over cooked and the crushed potatoes it came with were dry. We would definitely go back and try something different next time though, the place as a whole is lovely and great for both groups and couples.

We came for our partners Christmas meal. It was a great evening. Mark is an excellent host and really looked after us well. We had a glass of champagne to kick the evening off and he was careful to make sure he had enough bottles of our chosen drink so that we didn’t have to change if we wanted to have a second. The food choice was excellent and everyone really enjoyed every course which was beautifully cooked and presented. We finished off with complimentary Christmas cake liqueurs. Cannot recommend this place too highly. We have already booked for a return trip.

Early celebration for my Christmas Day birthday . Food was excellent for all 7 of us starters and mains . Service was efficient and friendly . Kindly they allowed my family to bring a homemade cake which they bought out with plates and forks many other places don’t allow this and for me this made my birthday celebrations special ! Lovely, friendly staff who would benefit from a little more training. Very from disappointed with our visit. Long wait for the menu and then drinks. Finally ordered and then waited a long time for them to bring out our main course which should have been the starter. Starters came out quickly to rectify this but our main was obviously not cooked from fresh again- this is disappointing service from what is advertised as a high class restaurant.

Would definitely recommend here, staff were amazing and extremely helpful, food was unbelievable and atmosphere was amazing, a lovely team! will definitely be coming back!!

Disappointing. The menu looked appealing but presentation and execution poor. Goats cheese ‘tart’- a slice of cheese on a slice of badly cooked pastry. Sirloin steak- badly cooked, fatty with soggy chips. Cold in the conservatory and very slow service. Almost an hour to get a bottle of warm champagne on our arrival.

Out of all the reviews spanning service and food quality average is right. Another review posted it’s trying to act above its station, which is a little unfair but it does lack somewhat.

We regularly go to the Blacksmiths as it is our favourite restaurant in the area since we discovered it about 4 years ago. The food quality is top drawer and the staff are most helpful. I would especially recommend Sunday roast menu

Wow, i was beyond blown away with everything here! The cosy atmosphere and lovely environment not to mention the beautiful food! The two waiting staff daisy and fran really went over and above to ensure every customer was happy not only this seeing these two girl’s genuinely get along was lovely to see! the constant genuine smiles we was served with as well as the professionalism. Fran and Daisy were both amazing in the way they served us to top this off me and my family was presented with delicious food was amazing!

This place has been on my restaurant list for several years…I can honestly say I have missed a trick here. The food is beyond amazing, with a menu that changes daily to suit incoming fresh produce from local sources. The staff are super friendly, offering a wealth of information on the menu with a genuine smile. This could be my new favourite place to eat! Thank you all.

Had a thoroughly enjoyable Sunday lunch, warm greeting,lovely atmosphere in the room where seated. Enjoyed 3 courses, roast beef succulent & full of flavour, all veg accompliments & the yorkshires very tasty, the gravy really flavoursome. Both starters of pork belly, mac & cheese & then the desserts of sticky toffee pudding & chocolate tart complimented an enjoyable main course. Wine very well priced, we chose a Malbec which was full bodied & suited our choice of food. We will be back very soon, thank you to those in the kitchen & front of house who did a great job.

The staff here are wonderful! So fun and friendly without being intrusive. Service was spot on, regular offers of drinks, requests dealt with efficiently and everything done with a smile. The food was also excellent in general- the calamari and yorkshires just a tiny bit overcooked but I'm being picky because the standard in general is so high. Loved the fact we got a generous jug of gravy with our Sunday dinners. This kind of attention to detail and effort to please the customer means I cannot wait to return and would recommend wholeheartedly!

With friends visiting, we wanted to go to a nice restaurant that was local to home, and having read the reviews, The Blacksmith’s Arms seemed to fit the bill. We struggled to get a reservation, initially booking a late sitting, but eventually managing to book a much earlier slot. This seemed promising, and I am delighted to say that we were not disappointed. Prices are higher than average pub grub prices, but this is because this is not your average pub grub! The menu runs from scallops to venison! Starters between 6 - 10, mains 18 - 20; good value for the quality and presentation, in my opinion.As a table of 4, we ordered chicken liver parfait and the antipasti to start. All beautifully presented (though, my age old complaint of there never being a suitable ratio for pate & bread was sadly still true). For mains we ordered the tuna, venison and fillet steak. Again, all beautifully cooked and presented. Only room for 2 desserts but they weren’t huge and plates were cleared, so they were certainly enjoyed.The wine list had a good selection of wine both by the glass and bottle, and a very crisp Spanish white came recommended at £26. Staff were friendly and knowledgeable, though very keen to take drink orders before we’d decided on our food, which I’m chalking up to ‘start of Saturday night service’ enthusiasm. Based on our first visit, I’d happily rate our experience as 5*, and I hope this was the first of many such visits.

The food at the Blacksmiths Arms is absolutely delicious and everything is perfectly cooked. It's slightly pricier than an average pub but you definitely get what you pay for as the quality is superb. Friendly staff who give the right balance of attentiveness, good wine list, really nice surroundings. Plenty of hand sanitiser and social distancing, so we felt very safe too. An excellent choice for an occasional special treat, will definitely be returning.

There were 5 in our party, 2 with mobility issues. Upon arrival, we found that our table had been placed by the door to help us. The car park is flat although a little rough for walking aids.The food was traditional and cooked well with a nice variety to choose from. We could choose from 2 or 3 courses for set prices which helps those on a tighter budget.Although we were there for a king time, we never felt rushed or an inconvenience.At the moment it is open Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.We will definitely be returning.

Great to be back at one of my favorite eating houses. The obligatory Fillet Steak was ordered and as in pre-Covid days, was the same high standard. - Thanks Jonnie, (who was manning the kitchen on Thursday night).

Me and my family visited here for an evening meal. We were lucky to be seated in one of the ‘barn tables’ which provided an outdoor heater above our table. Despite a limited menu, there was plenty of choice and the meals were lovely. Both the waitresses who served us were extremely friendly. Overall, very impressed and would visit again!

Excellent family Sunday lunch with a very good menu beyond traditional roasts including seafood, crab and vegetarian options. Deserts also very well presented and table service first class.

The food was very good overall,but the major flaw was the Scallops appetiser,for 11 pounds you only got 2 scallops?very disappointing to say the least,my sister and my partner had them so basically we paid 22 pounds for 4 scallops,I was a chef for 35 years and know the cost of food etc,I had the 8oz burger which was a bit rubbery and generic tasting,my sister had the lamb shoulder which she said was excellent,my partner had the seafood chowder which was above average,lots of lovely bread and olives and no complaints about the service,probably wouldn't go again hence the small portions and prices a bit too much for what you get,just my opinion being quite a harsh food critic and ex chef,but would recommend it as it has a very nice ambiance about it.

We stopped at the blacksmiths on our way back to London after visiting our daughter in the area. Our server Lauren W was extremely friendly and recommended some great options on the menu for us. I chose the Sebass and Scollops and my husband ate the Lasagne which came with chips. Both were delicious. We topped this off with a caramel sundae which came recommended by Lauren W and did not disappoint! All COVID guidelines stuck too and saw a member of staff taking temperatures, we were really impressed.Wish we could come back sooner but we will visit next time we are in the area. Thanks again.

One of our local favourites. Always great food, service and welcome. Look forward to visiting when they reopen. Have been a few times and always consistent. No outdoor area, however. Nice selection of gins.

Visited this restaurant yesterday Sunday 8th March 2020, very pleasant atmosphere ,however we ordered Roast Sirloin of Beef and unfortunately the portion of beef that came out was possibly enough for a child , there were 3 small, very thinly cut pieces on my plate and 2 and a half on my wife's plate and I'm not sure it even Sirloin as it looked more like medallion of beef ,certainly did not resemble Sirloin.The portions of vegetables were on the small side also. If we'd have taken friends out with us I would have been embarrassed.

We enjoyed a lovely meal here. We were celebrating our Anniversary and the food and service was excellent. A special touch was a lovely complementary celebration pudding and complementary Prosecco. This was a very generous gesture and shows how customers are valued. We will certainly be back soon, thank you for making our day extra special.

This was a return visit that I was looking forward too but alas is was disappointing. When the cocktails drinks before the meal are the best thing about the whole experience then that tells you everything you need to know.Our meal of three courses was underwhelming and there was an issue with each course either with my own food or my wife’s. My starter was tepid in temperature. The mains were average. Fish was more batter than fish. My wife’s Eton Mess with blueberry glue was tiny. Poor value for was it cost.Overall the £100 for the experience was not worth the journey over. There are so many other restaurants to visit and get better quality food for better value.

Visited for lunch with family whilst visiting them locally. We ordered drinks in the bar whilst ordering our food. Well stocked and with a very helpful barman. A good selection of non-alcoholic substitutes for alcohol which was useful as three of us were driving.The menu is quite short which is a good sign. Meat, fish dishes feature whilst they also cater for those poor vegetarians!We were ushered through to the fairly small dining area that has an oak and glass extension to it too. Plenty of space between tables. The service was excellent, although the lady serving us was not certain what all the "textures" of cucumber were in one of the starters. The food was well presented and well cooked. The portions were modest, but after three courses we all felt adequately fed and not uncomfortably full. The bill was just about £133 for four people including drinks and a tip. Not bad value for money and we will be coming back when we are all together in this area again.

Not only is the food exceptional the decor and cleanliness of this place is outstanding. First visit here @ I’m sure won’t be our last. Staff were very attentive & friendly giving it a lovely atmosphere.

Went for a meal here on a Saturday night the pub was so busy however this did not impact on the service. The pub was lovely and warm from an open fire, the food was perfect, we had Parmos. Our waitress was Freya such a lovely polite young girl. Would definitely recommend this place and will be back

This was my first visit to the Blacksmith Arms and to say I was impressed is an understatement. We were part of a party of 16 celebrating my daughter in laws 40th birthday. The staff and meal was excellent and everyone had a lovely night. As we are not from the area it is possible that we may not return and that is our loss. I would highly recommend the Blacksmith Ams a wonderful restaurant.

Delicious set menu for Sunday lunch. The blue cheese panacotta was delicious as was the roast beef. The only slight niggle was sauces to go with the roasts taking a while to arrive by which time most of the food was eaten

We go to the Blacksmiths Arms for Sunday lunch at least once a year and the food is always good. The menu is always interesting and moderately priced, tables are well-dressed and clean, staff are diligent and friendly. Feels like a special occasion, rather than just a pub lunch. Can get busy, so make sure you book in advance to avoid disappointment!

Went for sunday lunch having booked a table for 2 adults and 2 children , staff very rude and left us to find a table in the bar ourselves , stood at the bar and was ignored by bar staff,

The menu is good, but hasn’t been updated for a while so a few ‘menu specials' are needed. Food presentation is lacking, for the price paid I’d expect more attention to detail. The evening felt a bit rushed, my dessert arrived just after I ordered it and there had been no attempt to make it look nice on the plate. The stone cold chocolate brownie was sent back to the kitchen and of course then arrived back to me molten hot obviously straight out of the microwave. Hope this restaurant doesn’t take it’s popularity too much for granted.

Been here loads of times but the last visit wasn’t great. Just little things seem to have dropped off a bit. I asked for a drink with no ice and it came with ice, I explained to the waiter and the drink came back half empty. I had Sunday lunch and one slice of meat was just fat, I think that that should of been noticed before being served. The service was ok but slow and not much in the way of follow up if I had been asked I would of mentioned the meat. Dessert was less imaginative than before and a bit simple.

Another fab night spent here. Food and service excellent. Curried Camembert starter is a must - we weren’t sure when we saw it on the menu but it’s a must. Fish pie as the main was fantastic. Booked the Christmas work event again as well - 3rd year running.

Having eaten at the Blacksmiths Arms on many occasions before this was once again a wonderful occasion. Food first class and the attentiveness of the staff perfect. It’s a little diamond of a place to dine and great credit to Jill and her staff.

Great Sunday roast as always, but disappointing mackerel starter very very small amount of mackerel, we had a child in our group who ordered the pizza and spaghetti hoops at £8 no spaghetti hoops and a small over done pizza. Service not as good as usual missed drinks and forgot that some people had ordered gluten free

Second visit here, restaurant quiet but possibly due to the very disruptive road works in the village centre. However, service was appropriate and low key, with friendly and accommodating staff. Food was very very good with our cod dish rivalling the Michelin starred John’s House for taste and quality. Portion size was perfect, with everything beautifully presented and cooked really well. The truffle and Parmesan fries are to die for! Will definitely be back again.

Visited on a hot bank holiday so didn't really fancy a full meal so just had a burger and my husband had the steak sandwich which were both lovely. The starter of lamb breast was amazing. Lovely restaurant interior and conservatory. We will definitely visit again

Just love Sunday lunch here. Lovely nicely presented starters and puds with amazing sirloin (other mains are available but I always have the sirloin) in between. Great staff and a great wine list too with lots by the glass. Dropped a blob as there was an error on our bill but was quickly rectified.

My son and his family live in barrow upon soar and we live in yorkshire so we dont see each other as much as we should do, so a meal out is the ideal thing to do. My son booked the blacksmith arms and we arrived at 7.00 pm and were shown directly to our table, looking round the restraunt is very tastefully decorated and furnished with enough room between tables so that you cant here what is being said on the next table. We ordered our drinks and arrived promptly, small menu choice, but well thoght out and put together, our food arrived and was well presented and hot everybody was pleased and full at the end of our meal, we had another drink asked for the bill, pleasently surprised, we will come back again this time my son can pay !

This is one of our favourite restaurants and its easy to see why its so popular. The staff are very attentive and the food is always spot on, i cannot rate this place highly enough. See you all soon.

A really nice meal ,swift service a good choice of different food, ,the wine list is very good try the Primitivo if red is you tipple my wife says the Prosecco is one of thw best she has had. A good choice for any occasion

Disappointed. Nice atmosphere, staff and surroundings but the portions were too small - and served on huge plates accentuated it - especially the pudding.

Just had a wonderful dinner at the Blacksmiths. Nice atmosphere, friendly staff, great service, wonderful food. First visit and was very impressed. Only slight downside was a relatively small menu and no specials board which is ok unless you eat there regularly. Saying that, what was on the menu was interesting, well presented, and full of flavour. Nice wines and good beers on tap. Overall a very enjoyable evening. Would definitely recommend.

Just returned from celebrating a friends 50th birthday with a lovely Sunday lunch. Food was great but an extra thank you to all the staff who really do have the attitude “nothing is too much trouble” very attentive without being over the top.

Found restaurant online and liked the look of the menu. Very impressed with professional service and extremely tasty food on well dressed plates. Thought prices reasonable too. Have been here many times, it used to be excellent but the last time I visited about 10 months ago I was very disappointed and only decided to give it another go as it was very convenient for friends. Big mistake. In my view this place has ideas above its station with the result of overpriced very ordinary food and worst of all terrible service. The staff do not know their menu. All of us had our mains delivered and then 5 minutes later sauces and sides arrived. Same with one of the deserts - the sorbet arrived 5 minutes later. The sticky toffee pudding needs more sauce and a better pudding - I can make far better at home! Not what you want from a restaurant charging these prices. We wanted coffee but gave up waiting. Very poor and no more chances. Will not be returning, ever.

We had a good lunch at this pub - it felt very newly built and slightly too formal, maybe could be soften with additional soft furnishings. The menu reads well with plenty of choice although it would be good to see a couple of healthy salads on there especially on the lunch menu. We both had fish finger sandwiches which were delicious - fresh fish goujons in crispy batter - the bread was soft and fresh with just the right amount of tartare sauce. Also there was plenty of choice for my GF friend and it was no problem when ordering. It was a hearty portion and good value for money. Sadly for a Friday it was quiet but hopefully that will change. The staff were all friendly, attentive and service was good without being intrusive.

Went with friends for a birthday celebration. Not disappointed. Food was excellent, my steak cooked just how I wanted it (which is difficult as I'm fussy!!). Waitress recommended a good wine to accompany and this certainly didn't disappoint. All round fab evening; good food, good wine and the staff are friendly and make you feel really welcome. My wife and I recently treated ourselves to another visit to the Blacksmiths Arms for a meal to celebrate another year of wedded bliss, during which neither of us had murdered each other.

Had visited before and thought it was worth going again with friends for a birthday, but we really regretted it. Mediocre food, and really overpriced. And it wasn’t even very busy. Felt really let down, especially for the price. Won’t be going back.

Extremely rude staff, management did not care and I left questioning my judgement. I came here from good recommendations and was left with a sour taste in my mouth. Very disappointed and hoped for better
