I can with my family in a large group. We had excellent service from Louise from the second we arrived. The food and drinks were exceptional, and all of the staff were polite and friendly. Highly recommend visiting, I know I’m definitely going back!!

We heard a lot of good things about this place and had a family gathering here last weekend. Was disappointing. The elderflower champagne fizz didn’t taste like how it was before for our daughters who’s visited and dined here hence the recommendation. The Sunday roast pork was served without crackling and upon enquiry we were told they’ve run out of it which they didn’t inform us when we were ordering. Again it was a recommended dish based on the crackling so it was very disappointing. The saving grace was the garlic bread and the scallop started which were delicious.Very pricey with slow service and food was served very late, about 40 minutes from ordering. Not coming back.

We visited on a works dinner as a group of 7. Food was sensational, drinks were great and original and the service provided by Katie in particular was faultless

We have eaten here several times and last week we had Sunday lunch. The food was delicious, good quality, plenty of it and a good selection.Another huge plus for this place is the staff. The whole team are friendly and courteous and nothing seems to be too much trouble. One special shout out must go to Jason behind the bar - the cocktails are superb and must be tried to appreciate them, he even came over to our table just to check that we were enjoying them which is a touch you hardly get anywhere else.I highly recommend this place and look forward to returning soon

Great atmosphere and the most friendly staff, Charlotte, Sarah and Esther were fabulous. Highly recommend! We had nibbles and drinks and it was overall a great evening. Will def be returning

Had a lovely meal as a family with 2 young children. The staff made a huge fuss of the kids and the food was delicious.

We enjoyed a lovely meal made all the better by the excellent service we received. We had Emily serving us, she was really friendly, knowledgeable and suggested some superb cocktails! All round thoroughly enjoyable evening.

We stopped here for a drink and food, the girl behind the bar was a bit unpleasant and told us to sit near the window, the table was filthy, no one came to serve us then a very loud group started singing ( drunk) . We left very rapidly.

After a stressful week working for the NHS nothing is better than going to the pub for a delicious meal. Excellent recommendations by louise, the homemade pie was amazing (credit to the chefs). Fantastic meal last night visited early evening as a table of 6. Staff went above and beyond to make my partners birthday a special evening. Plenty of choices on the menu and lots of specials to choose from. Drink service was really quick even with lots of people in the garden. Staff were really friendly and will defo be visiting again. One more thing the cocktail are a must try...

Great service from the very lovely Louise. She was not just serving us but training a new member of staff and both were super friendly.The food was very tasty, good value for money and the choice was about right.Offering extra potatoes was a nice touch, we will definitely be back.

This pub used to be such a great pub and being a local I used to spend a lot of time and money there. The staff are not friendly at all anymore and you are no longer made to feel welcome. Such a shame to see this place go down the pan. New decor and new managment needed and hopefully they can find the way again.

Lovely family meal to end a week at centerparcs. Fish and chips and burgers were great but the star of the show were the mussels from the specials board. Desserts and service excellent too.

We were on our back from a weekend in the Cotswolds and had found it difficult to find anywhere suitable for an evening meal that was open on a Monday. We found that the Black Horse was open and was not too far from home. We were warmly welcomed and sat at a nice table at the bottom of the restaurant/bar. Service was friendly and attentive. Menu had a good choice. The lamb was very tasty and I was offered additional mint sauce with no prompting! Apple and sultana crumble for pudding finished off a really enjoyable end to our break.We have eaten here before and would be happy to recommend to others.

Had a meal with friends at an outside table in the courtyard. Was drizzling but the umbrella above the table sheltered us and the weather didn’t detract from our enjoyment.The waiter serving us was friendly and attentive, and gave recommendations on food and beer. Food was delicious and great value. Would definitely return.

We we’re able to get a table for lunch without pre booking.As ever the service was great and the food delicious. We both had the steak burger which was very tasty and the bakewell dessert was very light and yummy!We have never been disappointed here.

It took us a good 15 minutes to be served our drinks. We arrived by taxi & wanted to speak with the taxi firm. There is no mobile service available in Woburn. The manager pointed out that we could use the wifi, but that was unable too. I asked if I could use the phone but came back and said very curlishly "I will have to sanitize after you have used it" to which I replied "sorry to be an inconcenience to you" he then argued about we could have used the wifi and then said we couln't use the phone after all. We finished our drinks and left. I don't go to the Black Horse very often, and have never met this manger before, but I have lived here locally here for 42 years and I know a lot of influciential people. It was my husband's birthday yesterday and I wanted to treat him to and his friend to something special. Well that man ruined it for all of us. I will never go in there again whilst he's in charge. He is the most rude person I have ever met and he should not be working in hosptitality

I meant to write this when pubs repoened. Having been a regular at the Black horse., we arrived on a friday night at 5 .30 for a drink sat at a table to be told it was reserved, no signage on it, asked where we could sit were told " we are full you will have to vleave" asked if we could just have a coulpe of chairs somewhere ssfe distanced " no you will have to go" WE WONT BE BACK ! having been in the front of house public facing jobs there is a better way to aska customer to leave !

The staff were so friendly and lovely, very warm and welcoming. The food was delicious I will be coming again. Thank you.

Had a Father’s Day meal that was delicious. The food was perfectly cooked and the service from the staff and management was very friendly. We will no doubt be back to visit again.

This was our second visit to this restaurant, I always like to give somewhere the benefit of the doubt but had an even worse experience yesterday! We arrived at the restaurant for a Father’s Day meal with our family. We are exempt from wearing face masks and have exemption cards to prove this. The manager (I think) came up to us as we walked in and said ‘where are your masks?’ No ‘hello or welcome’ exactly like last week. To which my husband replied ‘we are exempt’ and we were asked to show our cards which we did. For future reference to the manager of this establishment there is a clear instruction on the government website to say that you can be exempt from face masks for numerous reasons and you do not have to show proof of this to anyone. We were told our table wasn’t ready so waited around 10 mins which was fine as we were waiting for our parents to arrive anyway. My mother arrived and he immediately came up to her and said ‘ i suppose you are exempt as well are you?’ Wow! What a welcome! As we were shown to our table he made a point of backing up against the wall and held his face to one side as we walked by as though we were diseased cattle! Meal was mediocre, nothing special, our waitress was a lovely lady and perhaps the establishment should reconsider their management as everyone else there seems to be so lovely and welcoming. Needless I won’t be back. Face masks are not law, they are government guidelines and to treat completely healthy people like this is in my opinion is the reason why we are still in this situation 16 months on. I will find somewhere else in Woburn to spend my money with, Shame on you Black Horse Woburn.

Went for a meal at the Black horse and I can honestly say, this was the worst meal me and my family have ever had. We had roast dinners and the roast potatoes were rock hard and tasted really old. The Yorkshire puddings tasted like cardboard and the beef was really tough. My son wanted a roast without gravy but it came with gravy. The waitress took it away but it came back on a different plate with gravy still on the food. It then had to go back again, but my son wouldn’t eat it. Nobody came to check to see if everything was ok!! Tried to order some desserts but had practically run out of everything. Your menu is not kid friendly at all. We sat with empty glasses for most of the meal. I then needed to use the ladies and it was absolutely disgusting, if I had seen the toilets before eating I would have left. Surly the place should be deep cleaned due to covid. It was filled with cobwebs and thick dust in the toilet. We’ve had many meals in here over the years but we will never come back.

Visited on Sunday 11.45. Board outside said open. Went through board said wait to be seated. Waited, no one came to out to us. Chef went through and saw us but still no one came and so we left. There was no one sitting in the garden which I was very surprised about considering it being bank holiday and Woburn car park was full. They could have had a full establishment a missed opportunity for coffee and drinks especially as they had been closed for so long. Just realised you didn't open until 12, board was very misleading. Obviously didn't want the custom.

The staff are nice,but had to wait ages to be served. The food is ok but small portions and overpriced. Won't be going back.

We had a wonderful lunch at the Black Horse yesterday. The food was superb, in particular my lemon sole and my wife’s scallops. The glorious weather helped, but so did the attitude and friendliness of the serving staff and manager. They were very hardworking, although clearly short staffed. People complaining about lack of staff do not seem to appreciate that we are just emerging from a lockdown that has impacted on so many hospitality venues. Apparently, two other pubs in Woburn have not survived the pandemic.My wife and I were very grateful to have enjoyed such a great meal, our first in a restaurant for months and were more than happy to overlook any small problems caused by staff shortage.

Been a local of this great establishment for many years and seen many staff members come and and go. Scott and the team have always welcomed me with love and care with every visit, even if I’m with mates or on my own for a quiet pint in the garden. After the last year we all had, a pint in this place is all you need to bring your spirits back up. Just want to thank everyone, From the chefs to the servers and Managers you’ve been great. We were looking forward to having a lovely celebratory dinner given the location of the pub. This was let down by the fact only 4 staff were working, 2 of whom told us that they were due to finish their shift two hours prior, and were looking after over 15 tables - therefore creating poor and slow service. The drinks took ages to arrives, if at all, we had to reorder a drink multiple times for it to still not arrive. The draft larger was also flat. The food was average, if not poor, and definitely not worth the price. I was also told that the roast beef was cooked in the morning (I was told this at 7pm), so they might not be able to give me a rarer piece of beef that I requested when they asked if I wanted it rare or well done. Hopefully management will take note of this and get more staff to make the experience more enjoyable.

Our visit to the Black Horse was spoiled by awful manager who showed no tact or diplomacy. From the moment we arrived the Manager Scott seemed to want our experience to be a bad one. Totally unhelpful and misinformed he was I necessarily rude to several members of our group and to the table next to us. When one member of our group addressed this we were asked to leave along with the other table. Totally spoiled our afternoon. I had heard several people tell me about this person but always prefer to make up my own mind about people, but this guy is a unbelievable.We paid and left left. 30 minutes later 4 police cars arrived outside the pub, apparently after another situation had occurred.Some people should not work in hospitality and should not be in management.This guy seriously Lacks any diplomacy and has spoiled so many peoples experience of visiting the Black Horse. Food v average and massively over priced too.

Myself and my partner were keen to have a last minute meal as Boris announced the move in Bedfordshire from tier 2 to 3. We were delighted to secure an evening appointment at the Black Horse for 8.15 for the two of us. The welcome was friendly and attentive and we were wasted no time in being offered water for the table, followed by the specials board and a selection of drinks. My partner opted for the buttermilk chicken to start, followed by the special christmas turkey dinner complete with all of the trimmings. I opted for the chicken supreme with a side of cauliflower cheese and have seldom appreciated a 'pub' meal so much for a long time. We had a slight wait on the food but complete understand and appreciate this in the wake of the current climate for the hospitality industry. Food was all piping hot and delicious and the front of house staff were extremely attentive, checkbacks very prompt, and very positive attitudes throughout. Thoroughly impressed by the Black Horse and very much looking forward to returning in the new year, Thanks very much everybody, and Merry Christmas to you all.

We went for Sunday roast for my birthday. The staff were very helpful, attentive and pleasant and although it was busy and later in the day (we went at 4.15 pm) all the menu options were still available. I had the baked Camembert for starter with sourdough bread and the roast beef off the main menu. I was asked if I wanted the beef pink or well done (which I do not get asked very often) and it was perfect, perhaps a bit too pink for some but for me it was delicious and how beef should be! It came with lots of veg, roast potatoes, huge Yorkshire pudding and delicious gravy. My partner went for the turkey with all the trimmings off the specials board and finished the plate clean. We also had cauliflower cheese as a side to share. As it was my birthday I treated myself to a passion fruit martini which also well made and delicious, I could of had many more! We didn’t have a pudding but they did bring me out a scoop of vanilla ice cream with happy birthday in chocolate on the plate which was a lovely gesture. Overall despite the Covid rules and how busy it was, we had a great experience and will be going again!

I had a Caleno as a drink which is not as sweet as the description might suggest which is a good thing. For starters, I had pumpkin soup which was packed with spices and flavour. For main I had the Merrifield Duck Breast which again, was flavourful and cooked to perfection. The star of the show was dessert as I had the Chocolate and orange bread and butter pudding (special). It's not sickly sweet and the texture is like layers of fresh pancakes. I can not remember the last time I thought this highly of a desert and I really hope they have that special again as I would have it in a heartbeat. Service and Atmosphere were great and lively although that may have to do with the upcoming lockdown.

We had an absolutely wonderful lunch here on Saturday. I had seen the menu online and was really excited to try the food and it did not disappoint at all.The COVID-19 precautions are top notch! the tables are all well spaced, the staff all wear masks and tables are thoroughly cleaned after each sitting. It felt like a very safe place to eat.On top of the normal menu there was a lovely selection of specials available and all the food was delicious but I think the thing which made our visit most enjoyable was the lovely staff! Everyone was SO friendly, helpful and just genuinely lovely people. We would really love to go back for an evening meal when we are able to.

Have visited a couple of times during day recently, must say given the recent situation, it's been fantastic. Staff extremely welcoming, sanitising tables, safe distancing. Coffee has been top-notch, as has the grub. No hesitation at all in visiting during the current times and would recommend to somebody needing to get out for a spot of food or drink

The food and drink is fine.This is let down by the staff who have no communication skills or empathy for the customer when a problem arises.Please double and triple check your reservation and how long you have your table for before you try to make any transport arrangements - they may not be what you expect!

Came here for a meal as part of a birthday gift. Great service. Staff very attentive. Quite simply the best fish and chips I've ever had outside of a specialised fish restaurant. For a pub to reach this standard. SUPERB!!! Rest of the meal was equally fantastic. Well done.

We have been going to the Black Horse for years , we considered ourselves good customers....On arrival last Sunday afternoon we were greeted by a lady with a ponytail unsure of her name but she was extremely abrupt in her manner ... we normally sit in the bar to eat and relax with a drink.We were informed that we should have booked and could only sit in the garden, it was chilly and was about to rain so not good.. we then saw a couple leaving so went to sit at the table ... she came over and said ...." who gave you permission to sit there " .... no niceties at all ... whilst we completely understand the pressure everyone is under during this time we don't like being treated in this manner and will think twice about going again...after spending over £50 on a return taxi journey and being treated like school children....not happy

We were very excited to try the black horse after such great reviews. From arrival the service was great, everyone was so warm and welcoming. The food was fresh, tasty and cooked perfectly. The only disappointment was when we arrived (7:15pm) lots of things on the menu had sold out. Apart from this, I would definitely return.

Staff we're absolutely welcoming and the food was excellent. We were celebrating our 36th Wedding anniversary so we thought we would have a lunch at the Black Horse. On arrival we were welcomed with two glasses of prosecco .Thank you for making our day special.

Wonderful lunch for 3 school friends from the 60s! Taking advantage of the Chancellors deal we had the most delicious lunch. One friend has a minor mobility issue and the staff couldn’t have been more helpful. Cheerful, prompt service. My fish was cooked to perfection which is not easy when you have to time it to fit with the party. Well done chef. We were so full we had to stagger out. Restaurant full so the staff did a brilliant job to keep everyone served - easy and clear instructions for social distancing etc. We will go back and happy to pay the full price. One of the best means I have had for a long time and my friends said theirs was excellent too. Thank you Black Horse. (It was to wet and windy to sit outside).

We decided to make a weekend of it after my hubby's stunt day at Silverstone, we stayed in Haversham House a beautiful dog friendly guest house with the owner Adam, who reccomended you to us as being a good eaterie and dog friendly.He was not wrong.Great booking vomms via email.Fabulous greeting by gent in checked shirt, seated with no fuss and made to feel super welcome even thought we were a tad early and it was busy.Covid set up was too notch and made me-us feel good.The staff were efficient, very personable and professional the 2 ladies, both dark ponytail and glasses were exceptional and went above and beyond. All staff that delivered food and beverages were superb!Food! Absolutely delicious. Varied strong menu with something for everyone but not too much choice that ir was overwhelming. Everything was top notch, clearly very fresh, and quality ingredients made, cooked and delivered with care and passion.Beverages, being a non drinker of alcohol it was refreshing to see cedars and other cool alternatives on offer, a non alcoholic fizz might be a nice addition.Overall, it couldn't have been a better experience. Now I just want to pick up you amazing hostelry with its whole team and move it to Witham on the Hill! Firstly, ignore the comments from Sally on 13 July, I really wonder what planet some people live on.Wednesday night eating out to help out! The place was busy but with no sense of being crowded, tables suitably spaced, screens in evidence, one way system and plenty of hand sanitizer. The waiting staff are attentive, helpful and happy (saw them dealing very professionally with a slightly picky customer). Scallops and chorizo and ham hock croquettes for starters, both excellent. Likewise the sea bass and steak burger for mains, ok so it’s only a burger but it was very good and cooked to perfection.All in all a very pleasant experience , the only negative being that we couldn’t book a table outside - the thunderstorms saw to that!

I have so missed this place!!! My husband and I came out for our first lunch date since the pandemic and knew that The Black Horse would have made the best adjustments for welcoming their customers back - and I was not wrong! It is a table table service only - so the entrance is not busy, The perspex screens dividing the tables fit in perfectly and because they are clear, they don't make you feel closed in. There are hand sanitation stations conveniently dotted around, again, you know they are there, but they aren't 'in your face'. With the doors all open, there is a lovely breeze floating through. The food was, as always, exceptional. Although there is a couple of hours time frame - to allow more customers through the door - you don't feel rushed and the team weren't shoving plates in front of you to hurry you out. It was very relaxed, very ordered and a truly delightful meal and experience.I cannot recommend this place enough. It is absolutely one of my favourite place to eat.

The pub during covid was very safe and had sanitiser stations in every corner of the restaurant, as well as spaced out tables safe for everyone to enjoy their meals. When entering we were greeted so nicely by staff making the atmosphere in the pub very homey and warm, the specials were talked through with us by a waitress which was especially nice. The food is out of this world - as a vegan I was impressed by the dirty vegan burger which wasn't like any I've ever tasted, giving me a new variety of flavours to my pallet as well as a family member having the Lamb chops which were also an explosion of flavours. Everything was so filling and so nicely presented . I highly recommend this to families , vegans and meat eaters. Definitely coming back again!

Was very impressed with The Black Horse, the perspex screens that are put up between tables actually gives you a bit of privacy and distance which is sometimes needed & not always guaranteed at a restaurant! Beautiful food, this is the second time I have been here but it hasn't let me down. Great cocktail, beer & wine selection and some lovely specials too. We were even able to have a drink in the bar afterwards, I didn't once feel rushed, so it was a lovely atmosphere. It's a little more expensive than others, but you pay for quality. Looking forward to returning here.

This venue is well staffed and nicely set out so that a safe, relaxing time can be had despite the current situation. The garden is really lovely, with plenty of well-spaced out seating and sunny or shady spots, each table feels nicely secluded. Good number of staff who were attentive and friendly. Food was great. Thoroughly recommended.

I had the rack of lamb. Beautiful! I asked to pass on my praise to the chef as it literally was the most beautiful lamb. Tender and soft and soooooo tasty. The waitress then came back out to us and said the chef really appreciates the compliment and if we wasnt in a rush, would we like an extra cutlet on the house....erm yes please! 8 minutes later.... The waitress brought out a whole extra rack of lamb for us to devour. My partner who does not like lamb tried a bite and stole a whole cutlet for himself.... he has been converted!Our waiting staff were wonderful and really made our experience. Great service, great food and we will most certainly be back.Thank you so much.

We had a wonderful evening. The food was wonderful with a great range of choices, the atmosphere was great and the staff were just brilliant. Nothing was any trouble, they were all super friendly, an absolute credit to the business. We highly recommend The Black Horse and would definitely go back again.

We came here because I'd received email after email during lockdown and thought they were really trying and deserved a chance. It was just a load of meaningless words. Good points:Our waitress was friendly and trying hard, I was particularly pleased that she kept us informed of what was going on a couple of times.The tables were spaced well apart.There is hand sanitizer available.The greens with the main were buttery, well cooked and delicious.The cheese was in an ok state, not great but it's understood that's not always easy to achieve.It's a great old building.We're slightly tricky customers because of our diet and that was handled well.I didn't enjoy my starter and that was taken off the bill of their own accord which was unexpected and much appreciated.Not so good points:The staff are wearing what they like with no name badges so you don't know the host is the host when you arrive.I saw two tables in front of me being cleared, the chairs were not cleaned.Menus were not wipe-clean and were shared amongst all the customers.We dealt with four members of staff altogether, they aren't wearing masks and stand about a foot away from you. The chattiness is very nice but not really appropriate right now as that's probably the main way of passing infection.I was assured the meat is not bought in ready sliced but the pork was a bit tough and grey and thin, not yummy.The cauliflower cheese is barely cheesy and slightly overcooked. The Yorkshire pud looked great but we didn't have that or roast potatoes or root veg so can't comment on it.Seasonal veg with the roast was supposed to be broccoli, cabbage and some other green veg, I only got greens, my husband had some broccoli with his greens.I had to ask for the crackling which seemed to be deep fried so like a large pork scratching.The gravy is of the Bisto variety.My starter of prawn and salmon cocktail was strangely tasteless and the crab mayo is a bad idea as the mayo is basically full of tiny bits of crab which has a really unpleasant mouth feel.I was also assured that my husband's starter of ham hock and cheese was made on the premises. If so, they could have done much better - homemade breadcrumbs are very easy to do.There were a lot of longish waits, for the menu, for our order to be taken, for the plates to be cleared, for the bill to arrive. The staff are very friendly but there is also a bit of a casual air rather than fully professional.I fully expect a strong response to this but watch out for weasel words. I don't think much real cooking goes on here at all. If it does, you might think about 're-training. We were so looking forward to somebody else cooking for us and it was our first meal out for months. It was a big let down.

When we received the notice that the black horse was reopening we were keen to support and immediately booked a table for Sunday lunch - noting in the comments that we would ideally like a table in the area where our dog could accompany us (previously these reservation were fine). Not hearing back I wanted to confirm this was OK and called today to confirm - I was told this was no problem and that they had already reviewed my reservation and moved us to the bar. Fast forward to this evening and I receive a call to tell me my reservation is being cancelled because they are no longer taking reservation for the bar area - we should show up and hope we get a table - if I had been told this when I originally called I would of have course understood, however having my reservation confirmed this is infuriating - especially as the mention of good weather this weekend on the call leads me to believe our reservation is no longer convenient. Really poor service - we’ll be sure to take our business elsewhere moving forward and advise our friends to do the same!!!!

Popped here for lunch for the first time on a quiet afternoon and the lunch was lovely. I had plaice and my wife really enjoyed the pork. The service was top notch and really friendly staff. With the extreme situation that the Coronavirus has put us in I realise how important it is to continue to support our local businesses and restaurants where we can by doing a few simple but sensible things. I hope people continue to come here because it’s a lovely place and the meal was good. Thank you. We will be back.

Wow, popped in cos the weather as awful, thought we may be able to grab a quick bite and a beer. We ended up staying for over 5 hours, enjoying an absolutely brilliant Sunday roast and a vast array or beer and gins.Service was absolutely superb, some of the best waiting and serving staff I've experienced.Never eaten there before but if Sunday Roast is a guide, then I will return

Busy at Sunday Lunch....Lots of hustle and bustle....but very friendly atmosphereEven thought the pub is busy.....the service and food quality is not impacted in any way.Excellent service from a young friendly team and top class grub.Would definitely recommend.....try you won't be disappointed !

The food here was very expensive and was pretty tasteless. The venison (£22 worth) was very small and cold by the time it got to the table. The Chicken Milanese (£16) was just a plain, dry, un-seasoned fried chicken breast with chips - no salad, garnish, sauce, nothing.Avoid!

It's a pub that serves good food and drink. It does it very well. The staff are helpful and friendly so what's not to like. Although we'd booked for dinner we'd been ambushed to a surprise lunch so didn't really need to go out to eat again. Undaunted by rain and cold we ventured forth. The welcome was good and the attentive waitress helped us choose tasting plates and starters and they hit the spot. Before we knew it we'd chatted our way through a second bottle and had an amazing evening.

We visited the Black horse 3 times in January, once with family and twice with friends, on every occasion the food was amazing and the staff first class.

The food here was really tastes and well presented. Plenty of choice . The specials board was excellent, think outside the box. The restaurant was full and a lively atmosphere. The decor is a little tired and it could do with a coat of paint

The food was of a very high standard and we both enjoyed it thoroughly. The staff were delightful, friendly and helpful obviously well trained and seemed to enjoy their work. The restarant and the bar were full and the atmosphere was great with a good mixture of ages enjoying it.

Had high expectations for this place and unfortunately it did not live up to them !

Booked a table for 4 to celebrate a birthday, had a drink at the bar whilst waiting for the others to arrive. Service was quick, friendly and reasonably priced too. All 4 of us had a roast, which was absolutely delicious, in fact we all cleared our plates. A few bits not available on the menu which was a little disappointing considering it was 17:30 BUT the roast and dessert made up for it. Again service was faultless and although it was really busy, it was quick and very friendly!

We called into the Black Horse for lunch we hadn't booked but were shown to a table, we both ordered the fish and chips which were absolutely delicious so nice to have a piece of fish with crunchy batter and be able to eat it all, we hadn't planned to have dessert but we did and again it was lovely, the staff were very nice very pleasant in fact the whole experience was a delight, we shall definitely return, although it was not busy for a lunchtime we would imagine you would need to book for an evening meal as the food is so good

I had an email with £20 off deal and decided to book a table for our anniversary earlier this month. I can honestly say this was the best meal out I've had locally for a while. Beautifully cooked food and staff were really friendly. Quiet on a Monday night just after New year but still a nice atmosphere. Plenty of alcohol free drink options for Dry January too! I also noted there were veggie and vegan options which is useful to know as we have a vegan in our family and it's sometimes hard to find interesting food when we eat out as a family. Definitely won't leave it as long to return this time!

Popular and friendly pub/restaurant serving a wide range of reasonably priced food and drinks. Although we had pre-booked for lunch, there was still plenty of room for drop-in diners. We chose soup followed by meat pie on a cold January day and these were excellent. Well worth a visit.

Delicious meals are waiting for you at the Black Horse. Daily specials are always a good suggestion, food is fresh, portions are beautiful and genuinely tasty. The staff is very cordial with a nice smile and will accommodate your request even at rush hours.

We recently arranged a Christmas meal for the family; with members coming from Nottingham, Chertsey and Evesham. Woburn seemed a great location and we could not have picked a better venue than the Black Swan.

Very busy pub serving hearty fare in well decorated venue, in prime high street location. Excellent, well mannered and knowledgable staff. We had a mix of Brits, other Europeans and Americans. All happy with the experience.

I have been here quite a few times and must say that the consistency of food and the service is impressive. The fish and chips beautifully cooked and the specials boards always have some great dishes too. The service is always cheerful in the face of being a very busy venue

Thought I’d try but was disappointed.

Not been to the Black Horse for a couple of years but remembered being served a good roast and it being a warm and friendly pub so thought we'd venture over. Woburn looks lovely with the pretty lights and the pub looked inviting from the outside. Seemed a little more packed with tables (but half empty as regards guests) since we were last there and not as well decorated and too well lit. Music odd and annoying. I remember the Guinness being good but it was disappointing. Venison and pheasant are normally two strong flavours but the terrine didn't taste of either, just the white fat and it lacked seasoning. The cranberry was a runny sauce, not a chutney and was way too sweet. The garlic in the camembert was in huge chunks and packed a punch, overpowering the cheese. Roast beef very tender and root vegetables and cauliflower cheese were excellent but the Yorkshire pudding was cold and like paper so I would assume had been cooked before service. Kale slightly burnt and red cabbage uninspiring. Had to ask for the jug of gravy. Staff seemed tired and smiles seemed forced. Overall lunch not worth the £70 in my opinion. Shame as it used to be such as lovely place.

Had heard they did a good Sunday Roast, but decided to try on a weekday after a long chilly walk on way back from a National Trust Property. It was early so fire only just lit, we decided to have a drink in the bar by the fire, which my husband helped light! We reserved a table in the restaurant which was ok but a bit empty. In the end we ate by the fire to comfy to move. Food was not brilliant, shared pot of crab, just got out the fridge so cold had to ask for more toasted bread not even enough for one person with the crab pot. Husband had to send his meal back as one of the large roast potatoes was hard, I was part through mine before his returned. On checking out they did say was meal ok, we explained the problems encountered, they did take off the starter price. I would not return in a hurry! Staff were very nice and accommodating, food is not cheap considering the surroundings, think you pay for the location being Woburn! Usually have a coffee after but decided not.

Incredibly popular restaurant serving brilliant food. The beef wellington was outstanding. Friendly and attentive staff. Book beforehand or risk being disappointed. Well worth a visit. We will be back, and soon.

The layout is lovely and cosy and what a great menu where they have lots to choose from, catering for everyone’s needs! The service was what stood out though, they are very welcoming. The lady especially was very helpful and friendly- a real credit to the place!

Have been quite a few times now for Sunday roast. Certainly not inexpensive but you get what you pay for. Great food, well presented, good size portions and served by lovely staff. Always very busy. The pub itself could do with a makeover in particular the toilets. Apart from that it’s great.

A busy Saturday lunchtime and the food was beautifully prepared and served with efficiency and humour. Great place to chat and eat.

We simply popped in for an afternoon drink and ended up staying for dinner. Very pleasant it was too. The staff were attentive and when my husband was not entirely satisfied with his main course there was no hesitation in nocking the price off even though he protested that he was happy to pay.

Had lunch here the other day. There was a wake on at the time so I’m assuming this slowed the kitchen down a bit. It didn’t worry us unduly. The food was delicious & staff very friendly. Lovely old pub. I would say that it is a little more expensive than your usual pub & the portions weren’t ginormous but we enjoyed it & loved the walk around Woburn town afterwards.

The food, service and atmosphere in this pub are exceptional, will definately be visiting again. We were only in Woburn overnight and are so glad we didn’t miss out on this little gem of a venue

Great food and service in a stylish old pub. Excellent diverse menu with high quality tasty food.

We were staying in Woburn for one night and I liked the look of the Black Horse so booked a table. We were not disappointed as the food and service were really good. We were not rushed but the service was attentive. Not a cheap option but worth the money.

Very warm welcome. Enthusiastic waitress, eager to hear what we thought of the meal. I had the haunch of venison, which was cooked to perfection (pink!) and my husband who wanted his steak well done, was also delighted with the food. French onion soup was a bit disappointing, needs a few tweaks, but potted crab was delicious. This place isn't cheap (£90 for two, with two glasses of wine) but the food is consistently of a high standard. The pub is dog friendly, the table next to us had the delightful Eric sleeping under the table - do say hello if he is there when you visit :-)

We went to the balck horse for a wedding anniversary meal we had fabulous food and service we would highly recommend going here for a meal

We had tried the Black Horse previously over the years as we live locally.

I visit here on a regular basis with friends and have ALWAYS had a wonderful experience. The food has never failed to deliver in flavour and presentation. The chef is always happy to explain dishes. Vegetarians are not an afterthought, with equally beautiful meals. Perfectly delightful staff, all of whom cannot do enough to ensure your visit with them is enjoyable.

We stayed in Woburn overnight, on the Friday evening we ventured to the Black Horse for some drinks, it was wonderful - happy young staff and a great atmosphere. The next day after being out we decided to return to try their food (I had been eyeing the menu up the night before but the restaurant was fully booked). The food was absolutely INCREDIBLE. Well worth the money and once again the bar staff were great.

Cheerful antipodeans serving - something for everyone on the menu - ham hock terrine and the cheese platter were a big hit - definitely worth a visit

Second time we have met family and friends for lunch at the pub, we arrived early just before midday but were made very welcome, lunch then went on until nearly 4.00pm! All good, and happy to have spent the time there
