Today, I met a friend who was having breakfast and coffee at Black and Gold. I stopped in to see her. The young lady who I believe is the daughter of the owner came over and asked me what she can get for me. I said nothing today. She proceed to say we have coffee, tea and I said not today and I don’t drink coffee. She informed me it cost them money to run the air conditioning and this time I could stay but not again without buying something. I was shocked I was not taking up space she needed. She had several customers to wait on. plenty of empty tables and coffee bar seats. I visit black and gold often with friends and family. I would never go back again. My friend apologized to me and she said I can’t believe how rude she was.My friend apologized to me being she asked me to stop by. My husband visits black and gold often. When I told him what happened he said he’d buy his coffee someplace else as well.

My absolute favorite coffee shop. There is a big selection of drinks, hot and cold. Don't be afraid to try something new, my favorite is the Honey Bee. The staff is ALWAYS friendly. I truly love going there.

Grabbed a coffee here before sitting on the beach for a relaxing start to my day. Customer service was fantastic! I requested cherry flavor in my coffee and couldn't even tell it was added. Really wanted to taste it in my coffee.

I came right at closing, and even though the registers were closed, Alyssa brought me out a cup of Colombian coffee the first time I came through. Best cortado in Venice. It was a beautiful, sunny day in Florida when I suddenly lost control. I was on my way to the Venice Golf store when the aroma of freshly roasted coffee filled the air, captivating my senses. I couldn't resist the temptation and was compelled to turn around and follow the scent to Black Gold Roasters. As I approached, I saw people sitting at sidewalk tables, smiling, chatting, and savoring their coffee. They seemed to understand what I was feeling, having gone through the same experience when they first discovered the coffee shop. When I stepped into the store, I couldn't help but notice the massive burlap bags filled with coffee beans and the enormous coffee roaster where they roast their coffee beans in-house. The owner and staff were incredibly friendly and hospitable. I decided to order a double espresso and some chocolate-covered coffee beans, which would make a great gift. The coffee tasted absolutely delicious, and it brought back fond memories of my trip to Italy. Since then, I've visited Gold Coffee Roasters multiple times and no longer buy stale coffee from grocery stores. Give them a try!

If you want an absolute PERFECT Lox bagel then there’s no place else that can craft one like this place! Salmon, capers, fresh dill, red onion & cream cheese on a Asiago Bagel!!! The only place that cab make a cappuccino properly too! 10/10

I absolutely LOVE Black Gold!! So much so that I have been grabbing coffee there for 13 years. I moved to sarasota and still find a way to get down to Venice to get my coffee fix. I love the owner and his staff. They are always friendly and kind!!

DO NOT TIP WITH A CREDIT CARD! Gary (the owner) is a good example of how to be a terrible person. He is a classic narcissist with anger management problems. He yells at staff and customers for tiny issues that would be negligible except for his pattern of insolent attitude toward those near him. Most of the 1-star reviews are related to his behavior and his girlfriend (the manager). Both of them have a history of emotional abuse to many people. I have personally witnessed him make an employee cry after they accidentally spilled a cup of coffee. I have interviewed former staff and they have several allegations of misconduct that deserve more attention. He is known for keeping all credit card tips for himself. I have asked him directly and he confirmed the tip money is not given to the employees. This egregious behavior exists as a method for indignation among the staff. Gary is a thief and a Scrooge. Leave this place and go to a better coffee shop.

Best Coffee Shop I've ever experienced! I take my family every time they're in town and ship them bags of coffee for gifts! If you're in Venice or Passing through I highly recommend!

Horrible customer service. My Bible group and I chose this location to meet every Thursday. We were not treated very kindly. The manager was rude and picky, complaining that we were putting 2 tables together on the corner left for more privacy. The second time this week, she complained that we could not close one of the blinds right in front of us where it was blinding to those facing the window. She also complained one of us could not bring her drink inside even though this person has allergies to coffee products. Not to mention, most of us ordered food and coffee. We felt so bad that we decided to go somewhere else. We took our business to Mon Ami café, where we were treated with respect and kindness and will be there weekly from now on. This business lost 7 weekly clients...

I'm not into fluff coffee in most instances ( starbucks,etc) but this place has outstanding coffee worth every penny of the price...I was drinking coffee since 4 yrs old,now 71so not impressed by novelty shops selling to amateurs. Their coffee is outstanding on every count. Well roasted,well bodied cup of coffee. If you need just one good cup of coffee a day,make it this one.

Always went there to get an egg And cheese croissant which was made on site at time of order so I didn't mind paying $6 for it. Went there today and was told they are short of staff and I was offered a egg spinach and feta cheese or ham and cheese instead that were premade. I was hungry so said fine then when I went to pay I was told the price went up to $9.99!!! I'll never go there again. Outrageous for a breakfast sandwich.

My boyfriend gifted me a bag of coffee beans from here when I was having a bad week. He remembered my love for coffee, and that I had said I wanted to try this place out. Someone at the store helped him pick out the perfect beans for him to gift to me. I LOVED THEM! I was barista all the way through college, and more than a decade later, I never gave up my love for a good cup of coffee. I truly appreciate complex flavor profiles, and the magical way good coffee can give you a unique experience from bean to bean, roast to roast, cup to cup. This place was exactly the place I needed to find!! They have so many unique, beautiful flavor profiles and roasts to choose from to match what you are looking for. I'm a litigation attorney who is frequently stressed/operating off of high volumes of coffee, and low quantities of sleep. Having a great cup of coffee incorporated into my daily morning routine, or as a treat/splurge in the afternoon, makes all the difference. I called back into the store today to pick out some new beans, and Alyssa was super kind and helpful in helping me pick out what to try next. We will be back again and again!! Local coffee roaster with beans from around the world, he's even beaten Starbucks to a few growers. Pastries and sandwiches are served here as well. Highly recommend the blue/blackberry cobbler muffin. Excellent service & place to meet up with a friend or two. 2pm close is a bummer somedays. I couldn’t have more positive remarks about this place. While I have only been a handful of times, their iced lattes and cold brews are two of our favorite drinks here. The food is table service but drinks are counter service. There is ample parking and seating. Beautiful art that decorated the walls. Two bathrooms for customer use, outdoor seating options, and a viewing area into their roasting properties. The barista staff is kind and helpful. They have many options of beans, ground or whole, merchandise, pastries, breakfast sandwiches, bagels, hot and iced drinks, on the go beverages as well such as water, bottled options. They even have GF options. We will be a return customer forever!

Always organic espresso, need I say more? They do brew some organic coffees but not daily. I would say this spot is more for grab a coffee and go or meet with a friend and hang out session. The environment is not a work friendly space although people do work from there. There is a lot of traffic in and out and the music is very upbeat and makes it hard to concentrate on work. As far as the coffee. My first try is always an Iced latte with caramel so that I can keep my reviews consistent. I wasn’t too much of a fan. I think the caramel had way too sweet of a taste. I do plan to go back and try a different flavor. Also, def more expensive then surrounding places. $7.22 for a medium iced latte with oat milk. Might make sense since it’s organic They do have tables with outlets if you need plugged in. There are also 3-4 tables outside on the sidewalk.

Favorite local coffee shop! My boyfriend and I travel for work and are always trying local coffee shops and this is by far the best we’ve had. The staff there are always so friendly and welcoming as well. We were stopping so often that we decided to start getting the cold brew growler and it is so worth it! Once you buy the growler you can get it refilled for only $20 (plus a little extra if you want flavor added). Such a good deal and the coffee tastes amazing. The honey bee iced coffee is my favorite and my boyfriend loves the turtle iced coffee. Definitely a must try if you’re in the Venice area!

As someone with severe ADHD and social anxiety, asking me to wait in line with 20+ people in tightly confined spaces filled with even more people is a big ask. So as I often do in situations like that, I put on a video and held it to my ear to listen to it. A woman behind the counter called out very loudly to me, saying I needed to turn off my phone (much louder than anything else in the store). She asked me to stop watching a video on my phone because they don't allow that. They are well within their rights to make whatever rules they want in their business. I'd argue that I have a disability, and they should have been accommodating. But there are plenty of places that do, so I won't be coming back. EDIT: After writing this review I was contacted by the owner of this business and he threatened to get the authorities involved for expressing my opinion about their business.

Coffee shop owner Gary Lauters has established a lovely coffee house with an in-house roasting service in the heart of Venice, FL. The products are unique and of surpassing quality: smoothies, iced and hot coffees of varieties you'll likely find nowhere else, pastries, mixed coffee treats, French press made to order, truly fresh-roasted beans from around the world, sandwiches, bagels, croissants, paninis, shakes, Rishi teas, house truffles, apparel, and works from local artists. They offer gluten-free and vegan All of the goods are made on site, so one can certainly be assured of freshness. Everybody is quite fastidious about the quality of the product and the service was particularly friendly and swift. Our serveuse, Savannah, was particularly bright, quick, and friendly. The products all seemed amazing. I certainly enjoyed my "Bullfrog" (chocolate/mint/espresso served iced or hot). My friends raved about the cold brew. However, I found that above even the superb quality of the products they craft, the knowledge and passion brought by the proprietor was remarkable. He was kind enough to take my whole party back to the roasting area and gave us an interesting tour and discussion about coffee production from seed to cup. When one learns of his professional credentials, it's not a big surprise that his considerable knowledge is heavily bent toward coffee. He could easily be among any number of executives in corporate coffee, but from discussion, it is plain that he has a bone or two to pick with some of the titans of the industry, primarily for what they are doing to biodiversity. In chatting with him, you'll find that personal relationships have a great deal to do with the varieties of coffee he offers. Many of these varieties are of sorts from small harvesters that don't receive much exposure from larger businesses. You owe it to yourself to make a stop, have a chat, and maybe learn a little something in the bargain.

Great service and cool decor, however their roasts are all burnt. Some people I know love dark roasts, but all the roasts they have are way too dark for me. If you like your coffee bitter and burnt or you order lattes and the like with lots of sugar and syrup this is a 5 star for you. If you enjoy tasting coffee skip it.

I went here last year a few times everything was good. When I came here on Friday I ordered my regular large americano and a large latte. They both tasted terrible and weak I even called to see what happened the next day and their excuse was that they put more water in a large cup. My wife does not like strong latte and it was way to milky for her. When I go to kahwa I'm not sure how many shots they use but I never have that issue. I'm really disappointed over the experience I feel like the coffee size should reflect the cup size by taste. I order a large because I want more coffee not because I want more water or milk. I can make perfectly good americano or latte at home and don't need to stop by a coffee shop. The only reason I gave them 1 extra star is that the decor is good and they roast beans inside that you can buy. UPDATE: my wife stopped by and got some coffee so she bought me a medium one with 2 double shots it was better this time. I'm still upset about the last time.

I realized that I purchased a wrong bag of coffee when I got home. Called the store and was told to come back to exchange it. Drove 30 minutes back and was told by the person in charge that they would not do it due to sanitary reasons. The bag was sealed and not opened or altered in any way. Asked for an exception, since I was told over the phone to come back for an exchange. She wouldn’t do it. Horrible service!

After a year in Venice we have decided to part ways and move back home. Over the last year, we’ve become good friends with the owner and the staff at Black Gold. These people are some of the most genuine and down to earth people you could meet. Not only is their coffee amazing, but their level of care and attention to detail when it comes to their customers is just a beautiful thing. We will be visiting often, even if it’s just to enjoy a cup of their famous coffee❤️

Food is ok, very pricey, coffee is good but also expensive, service is very nice

Ordered two bagels with cream cheese to go. What I got was two bagels with cream cheese in hand. What in gods name leads you to believe that I want to pay you 4 dollars each and still have to put the cream cheese on myself. If I'm ordering something to go I shouldn't have to put it together. The best part... These bagels are the same bagel you buy at Publix or Walmart. You could buy a pack of six for 4 dollars and add your own cream cheese. Nothing to write home about. I walked out without complaining because the cashier was extremely nice when we were placing our order.

Only been here once. A bit pricey for a mediocre latte, but I can't speak to their whole menu, of course. However, a coffee shop is more than its coffee. The entire concept of a cafe is the warm, energetic and open atmosphere for socializing, working, etc. Unfortunately, I'm not willing to go back to this establishment due to the overwhelming amount of negative reviews I've read across multiple platforms. Maybe I would overlook the reviews and ignore the criticism, if not for the ridiculously unprofessional responses from the owner. Absolute worst way to respond to criticism that I have ever seen, and due to this, I simply cannot fund his business endeavors. These responses are absurd enough that I almost want to go to the shop again and then write a mild critique on something, just to see what kind of incredibly scathing response I can get. It would be entertaining. But I'm not going to do that. In a way, this is a mild critique of its own, so maybe I can get my scathing. Either way, I'm just going to scroll through all the reviews and responses and chuckle.

The quality of black gold coffee is 5 star. The best coffee to be found in this area. The owner is the roaster, and the pride he takes in doing it just right and his commitment to personally traveling to find the best beans throughout the world is evident. I include bags of black gold coffee in gift baskets when giving people a selection of my favorite items in Venice …. Everyone always comments on the coffee and usually continues to order it online. It’s also fun for people to see the giant roasting machine in the cafe. The food selection is not plentiful …. It’s all about the coffee.

Its difficult to find a place that serves both quality dark roast coffee and loose leaf teas. This is the place! A coffee shop with a friendly neighborhood vibe. We'll go back.

Would’ve been quite a better experience if I wasn’t asked to turn down my sons phone 😊 I’m usually well aware of my surroundings and try to be respectful of everyone so I turned my sons phone to a quarter of the volume not even half way. Which was still apparently too loud because “it echos in their building”. Should probably should get that fixed. You have a room full of many people talking loud, socializing and laughing and that’s completely fine but my phone that my 1 year old who was seated the whole time quietly was bothersome 😬 Coffee was mediocre. I appreciate small businesses and love supporting them but in this case I regretted not going to Starbucks instead. ☺️
