place is good... food is great recommend the bbq ribs... and staff are great too.. prices are fair and location is good.. called in here on way to Norfolk on holiday

This is the last time we try this pub. There were eight of us thinking we could have a nice lunch in the local pub. Fools . Four wanted Chicken Tikka, One Sausage and Mash, One Steak and Salad, One Vegetable Lasagne. One easy -ham, egg and chips. There were "only two bags of rice for the Tikka",!!!! with no suggestions for alternatives were made from the waitress. So two friends had chicken tikka with rice, one with chips and one changed his order to scampi and chips.. There were no apologies at all. After going to find our place mats ourselves as the 'waitress' seemed occupied with something. I can't think what, as there were only another four people that arrived after us. Two Tikka's came with a naan bread each - both as solid as a roof tile, the one without rice had about six chips . My steak arrived with chips, peas, 2 onion rings. I thought I may have someone else's lunch. When I pointed the mistake to the 'waitress' she said "oh well" and walked off. I did not order them as I did not want them - I wanted a salad with the steak, which I think had been cut with a razor it was so thin. The sausages looked screwed up and there were no vegetables but I am not sure if there were any on the menu. The desserts, four wanted Banofee, 2, raspberry roulade. There was only one banofee and one raspberry roulade. The Banofee was on its last legs, obviously the last piece and the roulade was a sgraggy small end. One friend saw the owner/manager and explained to him, ''what do you expect if we are busy'' was his only comment and couldn't care less, really wasn't bothered and just walked off.. We had already paid so was not expecting a reduction but thought he should know and would like to know - if he knew his job. Plenty of other places to spend £30.00 for two for lunch, served with a smile and from waitress' that know what they are there for and a manager that cares about his customers.

Good honest pub food, all the meals you'd expect to find on a pub menu well cooked with generous portion size and friendly service.

They advertise ribs on the menu but on the 3 occasions we have been here they haven't been available. Ordered the sausage and mash today and was very disappointed. 3 tiny overcooked sausages,lots of mashed potatoes but no vegetables at all !!! They then tried to charge us £10.95 per meal when it was clearly advertised on the menu as £9.95. The lady on the bar tried to say that it was an old menu but was unable to find a menu with the new price so was forced to refund us the £2.00 we were overcharged.

Read sigh outside home cooked food !!! Rubbish Microwaved , peas instant potatoes shop pie, disgusting Hard yellow over cooked potatoes, hard peas, shop pie, How can a microwave meal go so wrong? Try employing a cook who can at least manage to press a microwave button.

Always enjoy my favourite - gammon steak, well done chips, egg, pineapple and all the trimmings - washed down with Timothy Taylor!

Exceptional pub, clean, tasty hearty food and very friendly staff. There was a good atmosphere even in mid week! We came here for a family meal, the coffee was very nice and the food wasn't too far behind. While waiting for our food I noticed that the staff were quick at cleaning up tables after customers had eaten and left, the toilets were modern and clean, plenty of sanitiser dotted around the pub and all the customers were happy and having a good time (it was busy even in midweek lunch time). The food was good value for money, presented very well, good portions and tasted fresh. I'm no expert but my children are and their plates were empty. This pub caters for singles, couples and family. The staff should be proud of their service and the chefs for the food that they cook. Our first time here but will now be regulars!

This doesn’t come from one visit… but several. I have eaten and drank in this pub. I must admit the food I have 0 complaints however the pouring of the Guinness AND customer service is dire. I am stood at the bar furious writing this. I have just commented on the temperature as I am red hot and all I got was a grunt. This is the experience from this time but I might as well take you back to the previous visit where pretty much the same occurred. I am pretty sure they look at me and take it in turns to be mean. Well here I am and there you go. This is me being mean. Please address the attitude. Yours, Mystery Man

We popped in after a day in the countryside. What a lovely warm welcome we received from the staff. We decided to eat, but the vegetarian choices for my partner were limited; our host offered to rustle something up. The menu is good traditional comfort food, just what we needed after a day outdoors. The beer was in excellent condition. All the staff were extremely friendly and helpful, nothing seemed too much trouble. I wish this was my local.

The food here has really gone up a gear or two, post lockdown. New items on the menu and very generous portions. Well cooked food and quick service. The staff are great and friendly, nice beer and wine on offer and prices are very reasonable. Had the ribs which are huge and very tasty, the fish and chips also very good. There are a selection of sweets, the Oreo waffle for the grandson very well received!

We visited the pub this week, Portions were big and great quality food, we were a party of eight and all had great meals, puddings were also good. Great service and cheerful staff

We visited the Black Bull twice on our recent stay in Boston. The food was really lovely - especially the Surf and Turf and the Steak Pie. Beer was beautifully kept and the service was 100% excellent. My wife did have a problem with a disappointing Rump steak on our first visit - but the waitress handled the issue so brilliantly that we did return a couple of days later - It's always reassuring when a restaurant handles a complaint so wonderfully. The portions were very generous and all of the veg and salad very fresh. The postcode on this review is incorrect - the pub is actually in London rd Kirton and not London rd Boston.

This week in Lincs has been a real eye opener - every day larger portions than the previous day - all the same excellent quality. But today the Red Lion topped them all, same excellence but even larger portions at less cost.. We have yet to get anywhere near a clean plate. Loving it.

We have recently experienced the Bulls version of Surf and Turf. Brilliant.. The steak was cooked to our requests and our view was it was the best we have tasted and eaten for a long time. Well done Chef. All food and drinks table service...

We are so fortune to have such a lovely pub on our doorstep. Excellent lunchtime menu to suit all tastes. Very reasonable prices too. Should add evening meals are just as tasty.

Went to this pub tonight for a a meal with two friends. Food was excellent, staff friendly and helpful Good range of real ales. Only thing is Tripadvisor gives an incorrect post code. It is PE20 1JE. Will definitely be going there again.

It's not a gastro-pub or a boutique restaurant just a slightly worn Brutish Pub offering friendly and efficient service, a good pub menu with good portions and high quality, and incredible value for money. What's not to like!

We visited at lunchtime in the week. The food was fresh and very good, the lady who servied us was very friendly and attentive. They are obviously working hard to update/refurbish this old pub, so ignore the worn the seats and enjoy great food instead....

Me and my friends are here for the first time as it being my local pub are heard great things and I wasn’t disappointed. The food is excellent, portions are generous and it’s a great price. We enjoyed the atmosphere. I will be back!

Very tasty, home-cooked Sunday lunch at a reasonable price. The beef was tender and there was a variety of veg and potato dishes. A nice local pub, with decent food.

Having recently been to a nearby pub (Merry Monk) for a Sunday Carvery which was most excellent we were keen to try the same at The Black Bull. The beef and fresh vegetables were amazing and I thoroughly enjoyed. However the roast potatoes were awful, soggy and lukewarm and the Yorkshire pudding was unfortunately inedible as hard and over cooked. Never mind though as the atmosphere was pleasant. After wait8ng an age we decided to clear our own plates and take them up to the bar... We also took this opportunity to order dessert as there did not appear to be table service. We ordered with relish a jam sponge and a peanut butter and toffee cheesecake and returned to our table with eager anticipation. 45 minutes later and no sign of our puds unfortunately .....so decided to cancel and settle the bill leaving heavily disappointed :( . No return visit for us I am afraid !!

Just had our first meal in the Black Bull in Donington, can I say it was probably one of the best meals I have had . Also they have a variety of different flavoured gins which were stunning

Absolutely brilliant afternoon tea. Lovely selection of fresh sandwiches. Delicious homemade scone and several cakes with tea or coffee option. Nice friendly helpful staff Would highly recommend and return.

This is our new local pub and it is excellent. Very welcoming and friendly staff, lovely atmosphere. Food was excellent. Heard a lot of good reviews about the ‘Black Bull BBQ’ so I’ll be looking forward to spending the day with my family there in summer. Highly recommend for a nice meal

Yo no suelo escribir críticas porque normalmente tienen algo de que quejarse, así que preferiría no escribir una crítica, pero pensé que después de tener una comida tan estupenda me tome el tiempo. Después de sonar un par de pub local para ver si me sirve la comida de un domingo por la tarde eran los únicos que lo hicieron. Reservé una mesa para 9 en aviso bastante corta pero parece que no importa. Todas las comidas salieron al mismo tiempo y caliente. 4 de nosotros tuvimos las costillas y todos disfrutamos mucho de ellas. Todos eran enormes que nos sirve no pude terminar, así que preguntamos a casa hem para nuestros perros, esto no era un problema para ellos. Todo el personal era muy amable y acogedor. La comida es de buena calidad y con una gran relación calidad-precio. Normalmente solo utilizo este pub para un par de copas pero sin duda comer más a menudo.

We go to his pub in the week to get their excellent mid week menu and believe me it is top notch. As such we decided to give the Sunday carvery a go. As usual the place was spotlessly clean. The drinks order were brought to us in a short time. The buffet opened and we joined the queue. When l was given my beef, 2 minute slices you could read the newspaper through. Now consider that w're in the the veg capital of England. The 'new tates' were super market pre-packed. The roasties were from 'normal' spuds. Cut into big and little pieces so some were cooked some were only just 'fit' The veg wasn't bad though could have been hot, it had been standing 10 minutes before they opened he buffet. Didn't bother with a pudding. Needless to say we wont be back for Sunday dinner again!!!

Such a friendly environment live bands every Saturday are great. Home cooked forward always spot on. A pub a female can enter on her own for a drink and be greeted with friendly faces rather then judged

I took all our family out for my Daughters birthday. The pub was superb, very attentive staff. Food was wonderful, brilliant selection. Very clean and nicely decorated. Would definately go here again if in the area.
