Black Bull Inn in Doncaster

We met friends there, it was our first time. To look at it from the outside, it doesn't look very inviting. However, on entering the landlord made us feel welcome. The food was very good as were the staff we shall visit again soon. Never judge a book by its cover springs to mind try it. There is something for everyone you will not be disappointed.

Fantastic evening at the Black Bull Inn. Unbelievably good food and smiling warm welcoming hospitality. 10/10 would highly recommend this place to anyone.

Not been here for several years, surroundings very nice and good parking too, food was good with portion size very large indeed, a lot of fish on the menu but something for everyone

This is a really cosy, very traditional old pub, with roaring fire and very friendly landlord and staff We just had mains and a drink, but our food was really excellent.. My husband had Smoked fish mornay with a good salad and I had beef stroganoff with chips. The chips defeated me as there was enough for two. The beef stroganoff was absolutely delicious. My husband said the fish mornay was one of the best he has ever eaten. Thoroughly recommend this lovely place.

We had a meal there last year, and we're very impressed with the food and service. We decided to book again to celebrate a birthday today, as we enjoyed our time there last year. My father in law has high standards, and he couldn't fault the food, except to say that the portions could possibly be smaller, but he, and we, all really enjoyed our meal. I am garlic intolerant, and the chef made up a fresh sauce to go with the stuffed chicken that I ordered, which was lovely, and I wasn't poorly after eating my meal, so all was good. Thankyou so much to all the staff for a lovely evening and meal...we're sure to be back soon 🤗 Many thanks again.

Unbelievably tasty food! Extremely well welcomed by the team and well set pricing. Portions are set for a king! You definitely will not leave hungry. Cod bites starter Pork chops main - included with salad and chips sides (not on the photos) Definitely returning.

This was the first time we had been here for a meal . I tried the scallops for a starter and it was the first time I had ever tried them and they was beautiful. Then me and my son had the fish and chips for a main it was the best fish and chips I have had for a long time . We will definitely be going back

What a fantastic local rustic pub, Stupendous food and very fast service. I have never tasted such devine home cooked food. Highly recommended. You won't be disappointed!!

Called in with my daughter’s boyfriend, both of us had an appetite! The pub and who I assume to be regulars were friendly and welcoming. Service was great, friendly and informative. We both went for starters and a main but soon realised there’s no real need for a starter! I want for their ‘famous’ fish and chips with mushy peas (as described on the menu anyway. How famous it actually is, I don’t know but it certainly should be! The portion was breathtakingly large. I’m used to seeing large portions but this was even larger. It’s size matched by its quality and cooked to perfection. Worth another visit sometime soon!

We’ve have been here a few times and it’s been very good but something as changed , We was looking forward to the steak and after being seated and looking at our menus the waitress asked us if our choice, steak , she said there is no steak , why was we not informed of this when seated , So she went away for us to look again at menu , we made our choice, waitress came back and said there is steak Diana still on , Why did she not say there is no steak then later tell us there is no steak then tell us there is steak Both startes were fine , However the mains fell far short Chicken Kiev was dry the chips soggy , The beef stroganoff after three mouthfuls you’ve had inuf , chips soggy to much of the same thing and you have to pay £3.50 for a small bowl of peas just to have a bit of veg with it We shall not be returning

Visited this place tonight and I have to say the absolute best seafood I've tasted in a long time. The fish that my husband had was humongous! And cooked to perfection, would highly recommend this place . Excellent food, excellent service, what more can I say !

We went here on a Saturday evening we had booked in advance and I am glad we did as it was a busy evening in the restaurant. This was our first visit after searching the net for local seafood restaurants near us and what a find this was . I have read on here that people think the decor needs up dating however it is a very old pub with lots of history so therefore the deco matches the age of the pub and brings back stories of its existence to life. We had seafood for starters and mains and we was not disappointed. I had the smoked haddock in a white wine sauce and my husband had the mussels. Both meals were cooked to a very high standard, they looked good , smelt good and tasted great ! The atmosphere is very welcoming and relaxed and all of the waiting staff are on top of everything and are attentive with out being overbearing. We shall be returning for sure and I would recommend if you have never been here , pay them a visit. Please remember this restaurant specialises in Seafood and advertises this on all menus and the welcoming sign outside .

I really can't fault the Black Bull: the welcome, the staff, the service, the food the ambiance were all top notch. We had seven in the party and we all felt the same. Cod bite starters are delicious and ample. Dishes enjoyed included the Chicken Kiev, chicken curry, scampi and salmon. I could not manage a dessert but the white chocolate cheesecake looked wonderful.

Disappointed-the lobster and prawns were tasteless and chewy. £4 for a small bowl of chips and £4 for a small bowl of salad from a packet I think is very expensive.

Starter was a ripoff 4 mushrooms in batter with very little garlic half a bag of lettuce 1 cherry tomatoe cut in half 9 pound each I had chicken curry meat was nice but no flavour and no spice it tasted of butter not nice Wife had large fish and chips chips were hard and tasted old the people on the next table left all there chips and our fish was greasy and over cooked

I’ve been here twice, once before the pandemic and yesterday, 24.07.2021, what a difference in quality. Before the pandemic the food was fantastic, we had the same ‘Black Bull famous Cod’ that I had yesterday, the fish was was huge and solid and “meaty” But yesterday it was big but flat, it could have been a piece of flat fish for all we know and so tasteless. My wife sent hers back after 2 bites and I tried to persevere but when I’d bathed in salt and vinegar to try to give it some taste, I gave up, sending half of it to the bin This night was our wedding anniversary and because we’d had such a lovely meal there previously I couldn’t wait for the place to open again so we could celebrate with another lovely meal, how wrong I was !! Best fish and chips around! First class service and would recommend to anyone! Went with a table of 6 all having three courses, service was absolutely top draw and every meal was top quality. I have been eating here on and off for the last 25 years and always loved the food and atmosphere,… I went last night for a meal for the first time in 6 years and I can see why it still keeps it’s fantastic reputation, the steak was delicious and everything was cooked to perfection as always. I love the fact it’s still cosy and friendly with great staff who looked after us well, Amelia and Jodie fantastic ladies thank you 😊

COVID safe with a warm welcome. Drinks served within a timely manner. Food is very large portions so don’t eat all day and you might be able to finish your main course. Overall very nice

Been coming to the Black Bull for years and never disappointed. The staff are always polite, friendly and can't do enough for you. The food is fantastic and great value for money! As always, the service this Saturday was amazing and likewise was the quality of the food. Cannot recommend enough!!

I am so glad the Black Bull is open again! Having ordered garlic king prawn starter and then king prawn curry as my main dish, I have to commend the chef as they both tasted delicious!! The portion sizes were more than generous, in fact I struggled to finish the curry! I highly recommend anyone visits, there is something for everyone, and the added bonus is all the staff are friendly and go out of their way to ensure that the experience is a pleasurable one.

went for meal tonight ,we have been here many times before pre first lockdown and loved it....there was very little fish on menu, sorry run out of crab scollops etc list was endless ....no beer barring worthingtons the food was awful seafood medley plate of mussels with 6 prawns??? beef stroganoff had 3 strips of meat in it the rest was just onion, the smoked fish was straight from the microwave truly horrible, when waitress asked if everything was ok and was told no she couldn't have cared less and walked away appalling service ,the second waiter just said oh and ran off. Its a real shame as the Black Bill used to be really friendly and great food it is now a case of couldn't care less avoid at all costs, its as though it has new owners who dont care.

I am vegetarian but my other half is a seafood lover so this place suits us to a tee. I normally always have the vegetable curry as it’s simply amazing but with it being so hot today I thought I’d try the salad and boy was it worth it. Portions are huge for a reasonable price. Service was relaxed but fast enough, felt safe despite Covid as all measures were followed. My other half also enjoyed his seafood medley

Our first meal here after knockdown ended and I'm glad to say that nothing has changed, the meal was perfect, even my fussy daughter liked my Chicken Kiev. Good food served by pleasant staff, what more could you ask for.

“Look at this beauty”- my exact words when our food came out:)We have had a great time yesterday!!!The food was amazing, the staff very friendly and i felt very SAFE-the staff were wearing masks, tables were 2m apart or even more, we watched the waitress wiping the table after some customers left using antibacterial spray, she then used dry spray for chairs, there were cleaning stations all over the restaurant with antibacterial gel (and other cleaning products), so overall i was impressed!!!Well done Black Bull Inn

Absolutely fabulous place popped in tonight having just recently moved to area. From the moment we arrived the staff couldn't do enough to help. We left feeling very full and happy customers. We will be booking again very soon 🤘 this place is awesome x

You don't really expect an Inn to specialize in Fish Dishes but The Black Bull Inn certainly does that. All the fish is delivered daily so it's extremely fresh and there are a great many fish dishes from which to choose. We were there for a relaxing evening meal and thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of it. All the staff were delightful and the chef personally came to our table to enquire if everything was to our satisfaction. The covid regulations were carried out explicitly so we felt very safe and secure. It was a great evening.

We looked forward to a relaxing and in our minds well deserved treat at the end of the week. We were greeted with warm smiles and taken to our table. Hand sanitisers were available throughout and guests were encouraged to use these. Staff wore facecoverings and social distancing observed at all times. Feeling reassured we relaxed and enjoyed a glass of the house wine and delicious food. A treat indeed!

My friends and I have had fantastic takeaway meals. Six of ue have met in our gardens to socially distance and enjoy the food in the sunshine, the last two FridaysThe food was ready on time and was still very hot when i got back with it 15 mins later.All the meals were first class and very tasty and my extra hot prawn curry was better than most indian restaurants.

The lobster special is great, had it twice now. Looking forward to going back for a sit in meal and trying other dishes on the menu

We ordered from the take out menu, it was fabulous. We had a seafood platter, excellent food, the seafood was fresh and tasted beautiful. There was so much food, I has leftovers for lunch the next day. I would definitely recommend.Can't wait to visit the restaurant.

We had a take away from here on Thursday 16th July 2020. We both ordered Scampi, Chips & mushy peas. The Black Bull is 15 minutes from where we live but they had put the meals in cardboard boxes so when we took the meals out, they were still piping hot! The meal was so tasty, we thoroughly enjoyed it. Thanks to The Black Bull, definitely be back for another take away if you are not open for the restaurant. Worth making a phone call & collecting. Great service.

We’ve visited a few times over the years and thoroughly enjoyed the food and atmosphere in this place. However in the current climate, they are doing socially distanced takeaways that can only be described as incredible! As we are both nurses and life can best be described as extremely busy right now, these Friday night takeaways have become a positive focus for the week! The seafood chowder is absolutely gorgeous, the king prawn curry is incredible and the sea food platters are fresh and full of flavour. I think I’m now addicted!!

We came here Sunday 9th February for a family birthday meal out we had a good selection on the menu to choose from and every meal was enjoyed especially the steak it was huge some of the best we have ever had. We had children out with us too they didn’t have a child’s menu but were happy to make anything we requested for them. From start to finish the service and food was brilliant we will definitely be returning her more often and recommending to others to come and try.
