I love coming to the black apollo for coffee and a sweet treat... the staff are so friendly and welcoming the coffee Is the best coffee in holt and the choice of sweet and savoury treats are amazing definitely the best coffee shop around..

Called in whilst in Holt for a coffee, well actually 1 flat white and a tea which we enjoyed also 2 slices of Carrot Cake, which was gluten free, this was very tasty but we did note it was the only gluten free option on offer (but better than the standard chocolate brownies). Service was good and friendly and we noticed there were several locals in too which is always a good sign. Dogs are welcome too which was a bonus, especially as we had a dog with us. Prices are good at Black Apollo too, I think we paid half of what we would have over the road at Two Magpies! One suggestion - please offer a discount on takeaway coffee if customers bring their own cups - helps the environment and encourages customers who always carry their own cups these days, and locals. We will visit again when in Holt

Well what can I say! The service given by the owner and staff was excellent and well recommended by another business in Holt. I was only Holt for a vet appointment, so I had my dog with me. I had just been in the local pet shop nearby and was recommended to come here as they were friendly and accepted well behaved dogs (mine was lol). And of course they served, what the pet shop owner states they served the best coffee etc in the area, though I had a hot chocolate. I ended up visiting the coffee shop twice while in Holt, and both times I was greeted in a friendly but professionally manner. Rvrn the customers were friendly, though I think my dog helped there, lol. I would highly recommend a visit when in the area.

Great coffee & lovely pastries. Flat whites were exactly what they should be & the pastries were warmed in the oven keeping them crispy. Nice feel & very friendly staff.

Great choice of cakes, lovely flowers, friendly service but don't forget it is all about the coffee. Used to be the best coffee in Norfolk. Now not even the best coffee in Holt. Get this right and the rest follows. Wrong and doesn't matter how good the cakes are.

If you love great coffee you will surely love this little place. They roast their own coffee and the coffee they sell in their coffee shop is pure class, they also sell lovely cakes and croissants! It’s our “Go To” place whenever we visit Holt. All the staff are lovely too which all adds to the enjoyment of course.

Found this coffee shop by accident as it’s the end of the High Street opposite the magpie bakery. Had a late lunch. Focaccia and salad for both of us and a pot of tea. Really tasty, fantastic value and the 2 staff members were so friendly and helpful. This place really deserves to do well. Also great for coffee lovers as we were told by a shop assistant in a clothes shop that it serves the best coffee in Holt.

Stopped here for morning coffee as usual place was shut. Given the reviews, great things were expected. The coffee was decent and the beans used just to my taste - but £3 for one take away croissant that wasn’t even fresh is stretching it a bit! Staff polite and reasonably friendly.

Lovely cake and proper coffee. Good value too. Staff very friendly. Nice area to sit outside round the back. Hidden gem.

Paid a visit last week found the whole experience very professional. Coffee and crab sandwich. Won’t be on my expectations very friendly staff, accommodating will definitely be back highly recommend.

Dropped in here while in Holt on recommendation from a Barista from Norwich. Not disappointed, coffee, sandwiches and cake were all lovely. Will definitely be back when we next visit Holt.

After walking from Holt Railway station, we visited this coffee shop. Staff were friendly and welcoming. Coffee was very smooth and tasty. Highly recommend.

I've always loved the Black Apollo but the recent change of hands had changed the atmosphere. One thing I always loved was the peaceful surroundings which allowed for a quiet cup of coffee and chat. But the decision to play loud music from the radio behind the counter had spoiled all that. Shame.

We had a day off from heathy eating and I asked for something that would close my arteries, I was offered the home made cheesecake, I really wish I lived in that home, it was superb! The coffee is (as always) the best, the staff are really friendly and the cheesecake is on another level. Top marks!

This place offers the best coffee and advised my wife to have oat rather than soya as a alternative and she has never looked back. Service with a smile always

Small cafe, so was lucky to get a table. Went for morning coffee and was not disappointed. Cakes looked very appetising but was saving myself for lunch elsewhere.

We went here as we read that it was a little gem, which was right in some way but it was small inside, before we even had sat down as we walked in, a member of staff straight away asked what we wanted, i immediately made a comment, let me get in first, apart from that the staff were pleasant, there wasn't a lot to choose from, but what we ordered was excellent, and the coffee was very nice.

We found this little gem in Holt….. great coffee and green tea……….. the carrot cake was amazing. It was lovely to sit out and enjoy the above…… don’t miss it….

Holt was very busy and luckily we found this brilliant little coffee shop. The staff were all lovely and friendly. Nice relaxed atmosphere too. The latte I had was one of the best I’ve had anywhere. Very reasonable prices too.

A small quaint cafe servicing coffee and light meals such as sandwiches, cakes, pastries, etc. The expertly roasted fresh coffee comes is some of the best we have ever had! The cakes are freshly baked and were delicious!

If you want a very good cup of coffee then you need to come here, they clearly know what good coffee is and how it should be made, always a friendly welcome.

The lovely Claire has handed over the reins to Jamie at the Black Apollo and I am delighted to say that the highest standards have been maintained. Outstanding coffee properly made, delicious cakes and clever savoury offerings combine to make this a place to drop by at any time of the day. There’s inside seating and a couple of tables outside.Clientele includes a loyal band of locals, visitors to Holt and it’s also a regular stop for cyclists.Jamie is assisted by Louise, Karen and Eve, all of whom add to the Black Apollo experience.

Stopped on trial to Holt, not been before. Staff really pleasant and with restrictions in place we had to wait a little while but not left as such, as kept advised how long we would be. Had take out coffee and the Portuguese tarts were delicious. Managed to leave a brolly there and when called to see if left, kindly told would keep until we could pick up. Worth a visit.

Discovered this gem a while ago and now it’s a must visit on any visit to North Norfolk - always superb coffee and tea - the food is lovely too.Currently take away only due to COVID restrictions, but the service is great and the coffee out of this world! The coffee history on the table - in normal times - is really interesting too. Thanks Team Black Apollo x

Why is it so difficult to find a coffee house that serves freshly ground de-caffeinated coffee? The Black Apollo gets full marks for doing this. Then sitting outside, with it, in the late afternoon sunshine was enjoyable. Thank you.

Due to covid restrictions this tiny cafe is takeaway only, but it does have a couple of tables outside. Coffee obviously in take away cups too. My flat white was rich and utterly delicious, my sister's chia latte also perfect. We eyed the cakes but restrained ourselves.

Popped in for really smooth coffee delicious home made cakes, try the raspberry & almond slice, millionaires shortbread & cherry shortbread you won't be disappointed!

This was our first visit to Holt in a couple of years and our first visit to the Black Apollo.We were met by happy, smiling staff who gave us excellent service and a superb latte, flat white, smoked salmon and cream cheese sandwiches and cake.We hope to be back when we return to Norfolk in the summer

Google says Black Apollo is closed on Sundays, it is in fact open and some google user suggested apparently that Black Apollo doesn’t exist well dear traveller Black Apollo most certainly does exist!Usual choice of excellent cakes, cookies and beverages. 1549 blend of three bean coffee works perfectly in any format, try a double macchiato for a full flavour coffee experience - enjoy

We always visit when we are in Holt. Great coffee and a warm welcome. The choices for lunch are perfect for a 'light bite'. Top quality in everything they do.

We always visit when we visit Holt for our coffee. It is the best coffee in Holt if not the North Norfolk. A good selection of snacks and coffee .

For some reason this is my wife favourite coffee house. Its Ok, a bit right on, a bit veggie etc you get the picture.If you are in Holt to spend a bit of time and a few bob you could do worse than pop in here.

Warm welcoming coffee shop on Holt high street. The coffee is great also cater for tea drinkers with a nice touch of an egg timer with your teapot so that you know when your tea has brewed to perfection. We can recommend the chicken salad sandwiches and the turkey and cranberry. Thoroughly recommend the pistachio and cardamom cake. All the staff were warm and welcoming making sure everything was ok without being too intrusive. Will definitely visit again the next time we are in Holt

Went here for breakfast after reading reviews on here recommending breakfast but was disappointed that they only offered toast etc or pastries. Coffee was very good as was the toasted bagel. If you are looking for a full English, this is not the place for you. But would visit again as it had a good ambience and food was fresh and well presented.

Possibly the best decaff mocha ever! Almond croissants aren't bad either. Love this place - great vibe, friendly staff, amazing coffee. So good, I've even bought their ground beans to brew at home when they are closed! To be honest, one of the reasons we moved to Holt recently was to be able to stroll to Black Apollo for morning coffee...

Read that they had excellent eccles cake, but unfortunately the supplier has retired. Still worth going. Great coffee and good choice of cakes etc. The granary is especially good.

Had a lovely cup of tea here. They have a wide variety of teas, some of which I’d not come across before. Staff were brilliant and the tea we had was excellent. I would visit again.

Coffees, hot chocolate and some bagels made an impressive breakfast for a tiny little cafe. We had to sit outside as George (the Border Terrier) isn't allowed in but it was warm enough and the service was lovely. They even offered the excess milk and hot chocolate from our drinks back to us as top ups! We finally left with some coffee beans to recreate the experience at home, even they came with a proper brewing guide. A proper coffee shop who know about coffee and service.

Superb coffee, as others have remarked and the cakes are great too. We had Eccles cakes; they are really better than ‘ordinary cakes cakes’, tick all the crunchy, fruity, sticky boxes and they are ginormous ... you will need a knife and fork! One will be enough but you could take another home with you.

A day visit to Holt and we found ourselves in the Black Apollo and what a find, lovely welcome then we sat and checked what to have. The food was fantastic as was the coffee and hot chocolate. It is really nice to find somewhere with such great friendly people with a passion for what they do. We will Definitely return when we visit Holt next.

A sunny Saturday morning looking for a nice cup of coffee as opposed to Costa or Starbucks. Cannot rate this coffee house more highly brilliant coffee and delightful pastries. Did we return yes the next morning.

Just stumbled across this perfect coffee shop and decided to have coffee then lunch. The service was phenomenal as was the coffee, lunch and cakes we indulged in! Small and perfectly formed. Will definitely be back!

In Holt looking for tea or coffee shop whilst on holiday when we came across unassuming frontage of the Black Apollo and seeing the cakes in the window my son chose this coffee shop tor a stop

We went on our family holiday to Holt and being a big coffee lover in the mornings - I was hoping to find a nice coffee shop something different to Costa. We came across this little gem of a coffee shop with seating at the rear - and returned 3 times it was that nice on our way out for the day.

I’ve been a regular here for the past couple of years. Holt has a few nice coffee shops but The Black Apollo is by far the best in my opinion. Coffee is always superb, cakes are delicious and the service is great!

Popped in hee on our way out of the madness that was the Holt Street Feast. Lovely welcome and great coffee. Great service was included free of charge....very good indeed and next time will try their offerings for lunch

Stopped here for a drink and I had a piece of cake. The drinks were very nice, and we'll presented, with my coffee bring very tasty - their own roast. The coconut & lime cake was light, most and delicious.

Not my first visit here but hadn’t been for two years. Just as lovely as before and the coffee was excellent! I chose a decaf latte (double shot) and it was brilliant. Really like the decor and the way the staff remember and acknowledge you (I was with a local). Definitely the best coffee in Holt. Warmly recommend if you appreciate a really good coffee in a stylish and unfussy setting :).

Popped in for a coffee after seeing reviews. We received a lovely welcome when we arrived, and went to sit at a table. Loved reading the menu which had info about the coffees and how they are made.

Our first visit to The Black Apollo after a recommendation and it was lovely. The coffee is excellent and great to know they roast the beans themselves. Added to this, the staff are friendly and always on hand.

If you want authentic coffee prepared and served by friendly, knowledgeable baristas then beat a path to the The Black Apollo. It's the best coffee in town, probably the best in Norfolk!

Stopped in Holt for a quick look around, decided to go in for a tea. As we had eaten a big breakfast at our hotel, we just needed a small bite to keep us going until evening, so we asked for one sandwich and asked for a spare plate and knife to share it please? The lovely friendly chap not only cut the sandwich in half ready, but provided it on two plates both with a bit of salad and crisps. Very impressed!! He also kindly refilled my water bottle for me.

Had a Portuguese tart and a flat white. Sat in the sun outside. Perfect. Great tart. I would recommend.

I had lunch here with my husband and baby. The place is fairly small so isn't really set up for prams, however the staff were welcoming and happily made space.

Stopped in whilst walking Holt and needing a warm up. Warm welcome , I’m fussy about my coffee and I had the best cappuccino I’ve had for a very long time. Perfect sized piece of lemon loaf.

What a lovely little place! When we pitched up, the last two seats had just been taken. However, the friendly staff readily rearranged the counter to allow us to perch there.

This coffee house is one of our most favourite haunts in Holt. We visited so many times last time we were in Holt I’ve lost count. The best coffee we’ve ever tasted is in this little shop. The staff are lovely and so is the food. A must visit!

If you are in the Holt area and you would like a break, stop off in this little coffee house. You will be served with a creamy, smooth coffee served at the correct temperature. The cakes are wonderful to. Say hello to the friendly staff and enjoy your experience.

Stopped off at this cafe recently on the way through to Cromer and we had a cafe latte, I think this was the best coffee I had drank for a long time and my husband and I have drunk coffee all over Europe!! the cost is ok as well.

We visit Norfolk a couple of times a year and always take in a wander around this lovely little town and it always involves a visit to the Black Orchid. Why? Three reasons. Firstly, we can always rely on being able to select something gluten free whether we want a snack or a cake (or both!).

We visited here whilst staying at a nearby inn for a couple of nights. A cold day in January, it started chucking it down just before we arrived, so we entered in wet coats. It felt a bit awkward as we stood near the bar waiting for a table to become free. It was a pretty warm welcome though.

Our second visit and similarly rewarding - excellent coffees, knowledgeable and enthusiastic staff, lovely cakes, warm hospitality. Thoroughly recommended.

Absolutely fantastic coffee. My husband and I both feel that our coffee today was the best we have ever had. This place is a real gem. We cannot wait to go back again. The staff are so helpful, welcoming and know their beans! You must visit here if your in Holt, you won't be disappointed.

2nd time of visiting. Came n sept with 96 Aussie uncle and 82 mother. This time with two 21 yr olds. Both times sat up the back had “wonderful” coffee and a savoury. Couldn’t stretch to an “afters” the cake portions were huge. Luvly attentive staff would defiantly recommend

We have visited twice in November and on both occasions the tea, cake and service has been outstanding. Fig,chocolate and armaretto cake the first time and Rum and Rasin cake on the most recent visit. Blue lady tea outstanding although sadly this coming to an end. Will never use anywhere else for a refreshment stop when visiting Holt. Thank you team, you all provide a brilliant service.

We always stop for coffee and cake at The Black Apollo whenever we are in Holt. The coffee is top notch and the cakes are delicious. The staff are lovely and always make us feel welcome. We have tried other cafes in the area but none can match The Black Apollo.

We visit here when we can, as we live in Manchester it’s not that often. As always the staff are friendly, the coffee is delightful and the cakes were fabulous- decent portion and moist. Keep up the good work guys. 👏👏

Impressed by their board stating they roast their own coffee - so stopped early afternoon for coffees plus small snack.

They serve lovely coffee & are quite friendly. My only bug bear is that it's small & quite, you can't have a private conversation. I would defo recommend it though.

Half way round my 70km ride, needed a pit-stop, and remembered one of my favourite coffee shops. That’s where I aimed and the thought of freshly ground coffee got me there quicker! To boot the facilities are immaculate and the proprietor/staff charming! Simply one of the best coffee shops in the U.K.!

We had long black coffees and cakes and everyting was first rate.This is the kind of establishment you would expect in a trendy city centre. Excellent coffee and service.

I must apollogise if this review is in rhyme. But I have got lots of time. The tea coffee and cakes are great, you don't get served on a paper plate.The staff here are very smart, so I go in for a good ( cup of coffee.)

I had found there review on trip advisor so having never been there before me and my wife decided to pop into this restaurant .The coffee was really nice and the staff really friendly. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to any one.

When we visit Holt our treat is to visit the Black Apollo. Alway a great cup of coffee with a treat from the counter. My wife has a hot chocolate which she loves.

Visited a couple of times recently and the tea and coffee were the normal high standards. Had a goats cheese tart which was very fresh and tasty. Also had a granola bar which was really tasty. The service is always quick and pleasant.

Back in Holt again and the first ‘port of call’ has to be The Black Apollo! As always, the most flavoursome Coffee ( and other beverages ) is served. Delicious cakes and snacks are available and how lucky I was to visit this establishment when the amazing Eccles Cakes are available!

Lovely bright friendly staff. The cafe is clean and well set out to maximise space. Super selection of cakes and biscuits to accompany what has to be the best coffee I think I have had out anywhere. Light lunch menu also which we will be going back to try on another occasion. Take away available also, so may pop in for coffee on the run! My daughter had a hot chocolate with all the bits and we both had a piece of their delicious sticky lemon cake - excellent.

We normally go to Byfords but it was full so we chose The Black Apollo. It looks cosy but we had small portions of dry cakes and very bitter coffee.....So disappointing. Certainly wouldn’t go here again.

Other coffee shops in Holt are much better. Coffee ok but a little bitter and the cakes were very small and dry. Not a patch on Byfords which is only a short walk away. Nice waitress but older staff were very offish and unwelcoming
