At a Friday night dinner, we had people coming and going throughout the meal and the staff were very gracious about the different ordering times and general chaos.Everyone was happy with their choices including the two vegetarians who had different dishes. The lemony salad dressing on the beetroot ravioli was a delight. We had a breakfast here too and it was lovely although the fresh juice in the teensy champagne glass was a little on the mean side and did little to slake a hangover thirst.

Nice enough spot, friendly and helpful staff - just one slight problem... the food. Breakfast is good, so maybe they should stick to the basics. The lunch and dinner menus look good but the standard of cooking is just plain average. For example every time I've had one of their £27 steaks it has been served rare - and cold - so why ask how your guests would like it cooked? Every time I visit, it disappoints.

We have been for dinner several times but not for Sunday Brunch. I thought we were going for lunch as I didn't realise it was a Brunch on Sunday. At first glance I thought it was rather an odd menu but in fact it worked very well for us. Nice table by the window and very helpful waitress, Monika. I had the toasted bagel with Mozzerella, bacon and avocado which was very good and very filling. My husband had the Roast Sirloin and all the bits and pieces and our daughter, the beetroot ravioli. For pudding we had the chocolate pot [delicious], apple tart and a sorbet. All washed down with a lovely bottle of Provence MIP Rose.Perfect for a relaxed family Sunday lunch.

We enjoyed a nice dinner with friends, catching up in the lively atmosphere of the Bistrot. There were a good few positives. The mains were the highlight. My lamb was tender and flavourful while the venison Wellington was given the thumbs up. My wife's ravioli though was deemed more suitable as a starter. The wine list wasn't to my own taste but our friends found a bottle they knew which was good. The desserts were disappointing with the apple tart to heavy on the caramel and the chocolate pots were nothing special. That said, the ille flotant was deemed a success by someone who loves them. The desserts knocked the rating down a notch to three overall. It could've been better and I think I'd rather try some of the other offerings in the area first before returning.

Very happy ( rare for me ) - maybe because staff were used to 'different' in London as opposed to the more regional areas of the UK - extremely accommodating (Alison) when I wanted to ensure my coat was safe ... Plus a waiter who was genuinely concerned to please ( Mariana ) - our party was a tad raucous to say the least but we were never left to feel like pariahs.Food - 3 stars - lacked consistency - venison was superb, pigs trotters were not. Chocolate pots - a little on the mundane side. Reasonable V4MNot a bad review for me!

First - excellent service last Friday 30 Jan! We had some special requirements when we were sat and the manager was smiley, helpful and was happy to please. She went out of her way to make us feel special and that continued with our waitress who was very helpful and on the ball, and again smiled and was friendly. We ordered numerous items to try plates and they arrived in reasonable time as did out drinks. The food is very good. We started with olives and parmesan short breads which were very flavourful and addictive. we then shared and onion soup (vegetarian and not made with beef broth but with marmite! to provide it with an enriching flavour). It was possibly the best onion soup I ever had and I's surprised someone would ever describe it as lacking flavour or thin. Must have been a bad batch. We also had rabbit and pork rillete served with prune and cornichon. This was very well made and presented. We had Daube de Boeuf and Mussels in Cider. The mussels are a simple dish and what you look for is properly cooked, not over or underdone and they were perfect here. The beef was very tasty, served with mash and mushrooms. The average price for our mains was £16 which I think for central London is very reasonable given the quality of the cooking. But there were mains that approached £20 and one that exceeded. starters were around £8, desserts less at about £6. The apple tarte was perfectly made in Normandy style, though I would argue whip cream or ice cream over the crème fraiche. We sampled a number of the wines by the glass. A German Pinot was surprisingly good, the Riesling much better than a Chilean Chardonnay (too sweet) which I only half finished. All in all, this was a 4 star meal (not 5 star, not a "le gavroche") but priced at 3 star levels and hence I think very good value for money. The atmosphere is modern Bistro. Its fine. But nothing special. It certainly does not detract from the experience, but it does not add to it and for a bistro, that works just fine. If I could would give this 4.5 circles.

The service and food was excellent both times. The first time we went was in autumn 2013, we both tried the Braised Beef Indochine, and to this day have never found anywhere that does beef quite like it! It was absolutely delicious. It's lovely contemporary French food, and the staff are really friendly yet not overbearing. I recently returned to BBL after a 12 month break for a business lunch and evening function. The food on both occasions was excellent, quality modern French bistro style, the portions are generous and its overall good value. I also like the fact they have reasonable options for vegetarians, although it is still very much a meat and fish based menu. The business lunch was excellent but the restaurant was only half full. For the evening function, we were a large table of 16, the food was good but the service struggled. The restaurant was full and they had overbooked, the kitchen was under pressure. I have always thought this is a better lunch than evening place and the 3 course lunch for £25 is very good value. It is probably not as good now that BL spends his time at Grain Store but this is still a very good bistro.

Such a shame, really. This place used to be great, amiable, top-notch food.In the words of Inspector Clouseau: "Not anymore".And then last night happened... I will acknowledge that they weren't to know it was our 15th anniversary - but that wasn't the issue. And it was the Thursday eve before Xmas, so they aren't to be blamed for the clientele. But: we arrived and there was no note of the request I'd discussed earlier to be seated at the back where it's quieter and nicer - I know that such requests can't always be met for ordinary customers, but it would be appropriate for them to have known and to have apologised that they couldn't meet this request. We were sandwiched between two other tables of two; a less greedy establishment would not have fitted a table there (it's not a small place; this kind of approach is inexcusable. It's not so much that we wanted privacy, because we can keep our voices down, it's that you can't control the volume of the adjacent people; apparently Pippa, Amelie and nameless son are all doing 'MARVELLOUSLY' (as is the new wife - would much rather have heard about the ex).Took our order and asked if we wanted some nibbles; we ordered some.Nibbles didn't arrive ("more bread?" doesn't disguise the fact.First glass of wine - drunk slowly - almost finished before the first course came.Onion soup - delicious as it later turned out to be - was boiling, and stayed boiling. The bowl meant it wouldn't cool quickly enough. To the point that my other half had finished his starter (eaten slowly) before I could summon someone's attention to get the soup transferred to a soup plate, to cool.Nibbles arrived - by chance, as I returned my starter (and he had finished his).Cursory service btw - the starters had been dumped unceremoniously on the table, with no eye contact or word, by a waiter who managed to drop two trays of stuff loudly nearby. Nice.Soup returned - delicious, together with the wine ordered explicitly for the main course. And then the waitress (third to deal with us) knocked his ginger beer over and poured it on his trousers. That was it. We insisted on paying for what we'd eaten and drunk. Thanks for that - was it really appropriate to add a service charge to that bill???!!!This place was once beloved - a fab new years eve, birthdays, and client lunches in the past.We left and went to the brilliant local Italian Attilio's, for everything that BL can't do - which is almost everything. A great shame indeed; un vrai dommage.

We were staying at the Townhouse and we went over to the restaurant at the hotel part for breakfast, which was not included in our room price. As soon as we entered, we were not greeted with a 'Good morning' but 'Have you got a reservation?' Having never had to reserve a table for breakfast at a hotel where I am staying, I found this rather offputting and unwelcoming. But the worst was yet to come. Our table was facing the counter behind which staff were making coffee. And all the waiting staff do is pile up all the dirty breakfast crockery, glasses, carafes etc on this counter. There is so much that they continually have to move it around to make room for more dirty stuff. Nobody seems capable of taking it to be washed up in the kitchen. And then I saw one of the staff take a dirty plate from the top of one of the piles, give it a quick wipe with a white cloth and send something out on it!!! Disgusting. I had to send back my tea cup as it was dirty and again, the staff member just wiped it with this white cloth and sent it back to me. I was absolutely disgusted at this, surely it is breaching hygiene regulations? And how offputting, to sit eating our breakfast looking at piles of dirty crockery. I would definitely not return, I would avoid this place until it sorts its act out.

Definitely a bit of a "see and be seen" trendy restaurant in Clerkenwell, but the food was very good, authentic French-style Bistro, with attentive service. My starter of rabbit and pork terrine made me feel as if I was in Alsace, and the lamb main dish was perfectly cooked, tender, and tasty. The menu did seem to be a bit limited, however, with the prices geared to the young and affluent clientele who surrounded us. I suspect that when this restaurant receives a Michelin star and gets "discovered" it will be difficult to secure a reservation.

Ate here the other night with friends. We were much older than those around us who mostly reflected the young and affluent people who work in Clerkenwell these days. Service was slow, with huge gaps between courses, although waitress was obliging and helpful about changing the wine after tasting. The menu was written on the placemats but it was incredibly hard to read the prices…and when we did we found them higher than they should be for a 'bistro'. My onglet of beef was tasty but so lightly cooked that it remained hard to chew and was virtually raw in the middle. The lamb had by two friends was better but as in so many restaurants the plate was too heavily weighted towards meat and too lightly with veg. Mostly women don't like to eat this way.Meeting as friends and an informal book club we wanted to talk and this was difficult as so many diners close to us were having loud and apparently hilarious conversations. So, too much noise, over-priced food and slow service pretty much guarantee that I won't be returning and I don't think any of my party will either.

Many years ago I ordered Boudin Blanc imagining it was just a regular sausage. I can manage most things but tripe has always been a challenge, more a question of texture than taste. On that occasion I failed miserably, and hid most of my food under a paper napkin ! However I love Guinea Fowl, so when I saw Guinea Fowl Boudin Blanc on the menu, I couldn't resist. Well, I'm pleased to announce it was a success. I got all the flavour which was superb, but the texture issue had been eradicated. Basically the contents of the sausage had been so finely minced that the feel on the tongue was mousse like, light and fluffy. My friend's mussels tasted good to, if not quite so adventurous. The cheese board to follow was excellent, the Mont D'or particularly pungent and moist. A decent New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc went down easily, all in all a very pleasant lunch, and worthy of another visit. I will let you know....

I hate complaining, I really do. Most restaurants try hard to get things right so I have no time for professional fault-finders who are forever barking at the staff. But when your mussels are sitting in a sauce so salty that it sucks your tongue dry, you have to say something. Well my daughter-in-law did. She's Australian, you see.Full marks to the waitress at this point. She took the bowl away without demur and returned with apologies from the chef for "over-seasoning" the brew. A fresh bowl arrived with a more palatable sauce (this time drowned in cream but at least it didn't draw tears) and better mussels (the first lot were scrawny - big shells, little meat). These were cooked in cider. Frankly I've yet to try any recipe that beats the classic mariniere of shallots, garlic, white wine, cream and parsley. The pretentiously named "Bistrot" Bruno Loubet is not exactly faithful to its title. Says Wiki <i>"A bistro, sometimes spelled bistrot, is, in its original Parisian incarnation, a small restaurant serving moderately priced simple meals in a modest setting. The word may derive from the Russian bystro, 'quickly'. According to an urban legend, it entered the French language during the Russian occupation of Paris in 1815. Russian officers or cossacks who wanted to be served quickly would shout 'bystro'." </i> Makes you wonder where that T came from.Anyway, this place is typical of middle-to-upper-middle London dining with most main courses in the £15-£20 range, reaching a steep £28.50 for a rib-eye steak. Wines are no giveaway either - very little under £20, a lot in the £30-£50 bracket. This is if you can read the prices. While the descriptions are perfectly legible, the menu designer has chosen a font colour that makes the bad news almost invisible under artificial light. Hmmm...We were celebrating a birthday and brought our own champagne, for which they charged £15 corkage. I've always thought corkage a racket. The assumption is you are doing them out of a sale, but at £53 for their most basic bubbly, rising to £239 for a Pol Roger Churchill, there wouldn't be a sale. I suppose £15 is not unduly harsh for places like this.On to the main course, mine an Onglet of beef. Onglet is another word that has crept into pretentious dining in recent years, more appetising than its English equivalent, "skirt of beef" or "hanger steak". This one was excellent - a lovely meaty chargrill exterior and pink middle. But there it ended. A couple of mouthfuls of limp watercress, a bowl of chips and... that was it. Oh yes, and a dip of Bearnaise sauce which was too heavy on the tarragon for my liking. But that's just me. I should have spend another fiver on some veg.Didn't have desert (all sounded nice, though) and finished with the smallest cup of Americano I've seen outside a doll's house.Glad to say my friends were happier with their meals. A couple said they would return to this "Bistrot".On our departure the manageress herself came to say goodbye and apologised for the over-salted mussles. A nice touch - obviously she knew what was going on and took it seriously. For that, coupled with my friends' contentment, the Bistrot gets four stars even if my own was worth only three.

Took a friend here for a birthday lunch and was a little disappointed. The prix fixe only had a fish starter and main with no meat or vegetarian options. The restaurant manager was nowhere to be seen when I arrived, so I went and joined my companion. Our waitress brought menus, but was very busy so didn't get back to take our drinks or food order for a while. In the meantime as I couldn't attract any attention I moved my chair round the table as the noise levels made it difficult to have a conversation. My starter of rabbit and pork rillettes was good, as was the beetroot ravioli. A praline ile flottante would have been better on a classic creme anglais, as the sauce was far too creamy and overwhelmed the meringue. My companion's chocolate pot was delicious. The coffees were good as was the Vouvray. I love Loubet's Grainstore so will continue to go there instead.

This used to be one of my favourite restaurants but after an error over our booking a year ago, which left a party of six of us on the streets of Clerkenwell with nowhere to eat, I stayed away for a time. But then I relented and booked again for my birthday with family. What a disappointment! The service was terrible, the food bland, it was very over-priced. After being seated we waited over 10 minutes for anyone to come and take a drinks order - semaphoring with increasing desperation at waiters who were either busy with other tables and pointed us towards colleagues, who were unfortunately chatting animatedly to each other at the serving counter, ignoring us (The same happened again when it came to the time to order desserts - more desperate semaphoring with time ticking away towards the last train home). To be fair the sommelier made a very good wine recommendation but never came back to ask it we were enjoying it (which would have been a lot more customer-friendly) I don't think our waitress smiled once all evening, certainly there was no sign of enjoyment in her work. And the food was bland. It all read well on paper - like beetroot ravioli, a first in my experience, and boudin blanc with guinea fowl - but was sadly bland in the mouth. And a bill of over £200 with only two moderately priced bottle of wine meant poor value for money. My next absence will be a lot longer than a year.

We visited here early on a Sunday evening, after dining at the nearby Modern Pantry for lunch and receiving poor service. The contrast couldn't have been more different at Bistrot Bruno Loubet! We were greeted warmly and cheerfully and taken to a lounge area where we enjoyed some cocktails. I was amazed by the poached quince Bellini that was recommended to us, as the quince is freshly poached at the bar. It was beautifully autumnal and the best cocktail I've had in a long time! I would definitely return for this and would urge others to go and try it! The staff were really friendly and the bar man (who we found out invented the cocktail) was visibly delighted when we told him it was our new favourite cocktail! I've been to the bistrot about 5-6 times over the last year or so and it has been consistently good. The menu is not intimidating and set out clearly on one page is always interesting - new dishes appear from time to time and it has an interesting phasing moving from starters, to starters which can also be mains, to fully main courses - all on one page. We usually tend to share starters and then go our own way for main courses. The boudin blanc was a new choice this time and was the best dish we had - thoroughly recommend this and the taste and flavours were just exquisite. I hadn't expected anything quite so adventurous - will definitely go for this again (if it's still on the menu). The beetroot ravioli is one we've had before and again good. The steak with bone-marrow has been excellent in the past and we tried this again; however, whilst it was still good, unfortunately it was overcooked for 'rare'. But this was the only negative and I can attest that on previous occasions the 'cuisson' has been perfect. The wine list is pretty decent, although perhaps on the pricey side - but I haven't had a disappointing bottle yet! Crozes Hermitage on this occasion was most enjoyable. The atmosphere is calm and unpretentious and staff are on the whole very attentive without being intrusive. All in all it's a very enjoyable restaurant for a relaxed meal and a good conversation with friends.

This Bistrot remain French quality and atmosphere only for the name itself. Tastes are very much British influenced. Quality, ok. Service, ok. Sirloin steak arrived dead to the table. Terribly cold! Three people, two squid dishes, three steaks, 8 small bottled biers, 150 GBP. Motto for the owner: I - Ped (Pretentious, Expensive, Disappointing).

We went here for a quick drink prior to having dinner nearby. The setting is nice, with about half a dozen outside tables, but it quickly emerged that this is just another one of these places where they sell you vastly overpriced drinks in return for next to nothing. We ordered two green juices which cost a staggering £4.50 each for what turned out to be 95% ice and a thimble of juice in a tiny glass. I complained and received a second juice for free from the stony-faced Eastern European waitress whose last smile probably dates back to 1989 when the Berlin Wall came down. I bet the owner, however, is laughing all the way to the bank at all these fools who pay a tenner for a small glass of wine. Wake up, people!

We stayed in the hotel and had several meals here, including breakfast, lunch and dinner. The service was attentive and friendly and the food was terrific. The menu is a cross between French bistro and English gastro pub. We weren't disappointed in any of our meals. One thing I would say is that they could add more vegetables to the menu... It's very meat, fish and carb heavy with little choice of vegetable sides.

Went here with my wife and daughter for a Sunday morning breakfast and from the general appearance and ambiance of the place expected good things. We had wanted to go Workshop Coffee just down the road but they didn't have high chairs. Anyway, we were served by who we thought was the head waiter (looks a little bit like actor J.K. Simmons) and he was extremely unfriendly, terse, cold and just seemed too busy to serve us. Anyway once the food arrived we were even more disappointed as one of my Eggs Royale was undercooked and my wife's single slice of French toast for nearly £9 was just a joke! We would have forgiven all of this if the food was appropriately priced and the service was friendlier and warmer. Do not go here. It is not worth the money. There are dozens of lovely restaurants within walking distance that are much much better.

We went here for our son's birthday lunch, his choice. We have had a few slightly disappointing meals in London recently and desperately wanting to try somewhere new rather than our tried and tested favourites so I wasn't holding my breath. But this was really very good. We loved the outside area for a pre meal drink and the decor of the internal dining room. The service was excellent, attentive but not over the top Mayfair style. The menu was fab. I like the idea of the "plates" rather than starters and mains, so up to you to choose size and quantity. First plates included fabulous beetroot ravioli (sadly not my choice), boudin blanc (sensational texture) and lovely squid salad nicoise. Next two of us had steak, one with bearnaise sauce and the other with red wine sauce and bone marrow( he had to fight us off sharing) and two of us had confit of lamb, maybe not the most successful of the dishes but still good flavours. Puddings were very well judged, my rhubarb brioche was sensational. Great to be able to say we will be going back.

Private dining experience for about 25 men. I was actually impressed how consistent the cooking was for such a large group. The octopus starter was the least impressive, a non starter for a starter. There was very little octopus hidden amongst plate grass/leaf. I'll call it grass, I felt like a cow eating so much of it. What octopus I did manage to mine, tasted fairly standard, like it was cooked the day before and kept in the fridge. Then things got moving. The lamb was a beauty to behold. Fantastically tender, the right amount of jus as to not drown the lamb, and the mash was smooth. People without teeth would kill for that mash. Panna cotta rounded it off. I got to eat very little of it for others 'tasting' it. Lovely space, nice attentive staff, good experience.

We were given the menu and asked if anyone had explained the Sunday menu - well it seems that Sundays are mainly for brunch or late breakfasts with only the choice of sea bass , lamb or Sunday roast .For desert we chose the creme brûlée and brownie , as we were the only customers in the restaurant now I thought a little care may have gone into these , we watched the "chef" preparing our food and saw him curse and shout for something - a minute later the deserts arrived and the brownie had a bite size piece missing - I pointed this out to him and he shrugged his shoulders and turned away. When the waitress asked if everything was ok I told her about the incomplete desert - she nodded and brought the billThe food we had was lovely but with so many restaurants in London to choose from I doubt I will be back here

I went on a Monday evening with my boyfriend and although it wasn't overly busy there was a good crowd in. We were seated on a table in the corner by the window, the random bookcases and furniture created an intimate atmosphere. For starters we had the guinea fowl boudin blanc (tasty but very rich, I wouldn't have been able to have it as main) and salmon with asparagus and gazpacho dressing (lovely and summery). Main courses we went for sea bass and lamb shoulder. Both were great.

Unfortunately we both had steaks we had to send back, I ordered mine rare, my wife medium rare, they both came out well done. Waiters very apologetic and gave us our wine and desserts for free, which was nice and more than made up for waiting longer. A shame the second steaks were really thin and the chefs didn't seem to take this into account when cooking as they were well done as well. Didn't bother to say anything the second time as we just wanted to eat and they did taste nice anyway as good quality steaks but not as I would've cooked them. I recommend the restaurant but don't go for the steaks! Brilliant triple cooked chips though.

My sister and I were in England as part of her 50th birthday celebrations and she chose Bistrot Bruno Loubet as the restaurant she wanted to go to, on the day, with a few friends. It is located at the Zetter Hotel in Clerkenwell so its in a pretty handy location. The dining area is well designed and uncluttered and the staff were quietly friendly, efficient and attentive without being intrusive; perfect! I had emailed a couple of months before to book the table and let them know it was for a significant birthday. When we arrived the manager asked who who of us was having their birthday and offered congratulations which was lovely. The dinner menu, though not extensive, is interesting and I can't imagine diners not finding something that inspires them. Between us we tried a variety of different dishes, from the the watercress soup, beetroot ravioli (gorgeous), the slow cooked salmon with asparagus, baby new potatoes (my favourite) to the steak and the stuffed Sea Bass. I don't think anyone had anything they could find to criticise with their choices except that maybe there was not enough of the slow cooked salmon!Only one of us finished with cheese, desserts or coffee...that was me! I selected a cheese which was delicious and the coffee was really good but that is as it should be for a French restaurant. My sister was presented with a complimentary dessert of creme brulee with raspberry sorbet for her birthday. Spooky as she is a great fan of creme brulee!. She, with a bit of help from the rest of us devoured it pretty quickly. It was a really lovely touch. While I don't consider the price of the meals to be excessive at all, the alochol is not cheap but then I guess it never is in good restaurants. Overall, everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meals, the surroundings and the service. If we lived in London we would certainly go back again. Oddly, we had heard that Bruno Loubet had restaurants in Brisbane (where we live) and up in Noosa a few years ago and we never tried either of his restaurants. Pity. If either were anything like this restaurant we would probably have been regulars.

This is a good standard of bistro with tasty French food. My issue is that, with the London offering constantly improving, one is looking for more than a place that would have stood out in the '80s. This restaurant is a "signature" restaurant for this hotel and should really try harder. It would be a good neighbourhood bistro in any London borough but, for Clerkenwell, it comes out average both in terms of the originality of the menu, the variety of ingredients and the complexity of the flavouring of the dishes. The restaurant should not be punished for providing good, competent, country fare. However, that is not what it promises. The wine list is over-priced, even by City standards. We had a few bottles of Condrieu and Languedoc that would retail at 25% of what we paid. One expects doubled or tripled prices (for service, availability, supposedly) but quadrupling is not really on.This restaurant and has the potential to be much better as all of the ingredients are there. I just feel that it is still searching for its je ne sais quoi.

This was our 2nd visit, 1st time, we loved it. However this time service was brusk and the food just not as "wow" as the 1st time. We felt neglected and rushed at the same time. Eg (1) On arrival we were handed menus and then left alone. I finally caught someone's attention and asked if there were specials - she pointed to a board on the other side of the room, smirked, explained a little and walked off (not quite rude, but certainly a aloof). Eg (2) I finished my glass of wine and the empty glass was whisked away practically before I could put it down... No offer or suggestion of "would I like more". Eg (3) My partner ordered confit of lamb which was tasty, but didn't have much with it so needed a side dish (even though the menu mentioned mash and peppers) but no advice was forthcoming about this. Basically, the service was just not very interested or attentive. It was a bit like that all the way through. Value-wise, it was average. £100 for 2 for a not particularly memorable or generous 3 course meal + 500ml carafe of house wine. Shame, as first time round it was, but that was more than a year ago and I guess things move on...

Started with a wonderfully fresh smoothie of elderflower, apple and mint (£4) in a large glass with straw. Then selected the poached eggs on muffin with chive hollandaise and Portobello mushrooms on the side. The eggs were perfectly cooked with a still just liquid yoke but not excessively runny. I loved the fresh taste of the chive hollandaise and the buttery mushrooms made this one of the very best hotel breakfasts for some time. My only grumble was the coffee. One small cup of Americano with hot milk at £2.50 was poor value and nearly cold. However, I would certainly return for breakfast and may even be tempted to try lunch or dinner some time.

We booked a table for my birthday dinner; we'd been last summer and I really enjoyed it. I don't like a fuss and so the table was booked with no instruction that it was for a birthday. I arrived and was handed a couple of presents to open, which I did, then put them away and thought no more of it.The service was fantastic, our waiter managed to be very attentive without being overbearing. I had the beetroot ravioli to start with (it comes in starter and main sized portions) which I'd had last time and was as delicious as I remember it being. I then had the special which was pan fried fillet of black bream, ratte potato, wild mushroom and watercress veloute. The fish was cooked wonderfully well, however the dish was slightly over-seasoned for my taste and I wasn't convinced by the textural contrast of the chewy mushrooms and the soft flesh of the fish. Because the restaurant is so dimly lit (one of the waiters needed to pick up a candle from the table to look more closely at the menu when we asked a question about something), I had a forkful of what I thought was just fish and potato and got a bit of a surprise when there was a bit of mushroom in there. My companions had dessert but I was full by this point so I just ordered a coffee. The desserts came out, followed by a plate with a scoop of ice cream and a birthday candle in with "Happy Birthday" written in chocolate on the edge of the plate. This was a lovely touch and the waiter had done this entirely of his own volition after he had seen me opening my presents when I arrived.I'd recommend Bistro Bruno Loubet for any occasion or just a cosy dinner. Prices are reasonable, service is impeccable and food is fantastic.

We booked for an evening meal and arrived on the dot at the arranged time. The table was not ready so we had a ten minute wait at the bar area. The restaurant was packed out on a Friday with a somewhat noisy and buzzy atmosphere. Not necessarily a bad thing but my preference is for a slightly quieter environment. The tables were fairly close together so not the best for intimate conversations but perfectly ok for groups of friends on a night out. With candle lit tables it has an overall pleasant ambiance taking into account the above points. The service was efficient and friendly enough but waiting staff had little time to pause with the numbers they had to deal with. The food was what could be described as country style cooking. We each had a main and a pudding with one of the cheaper bottles of wine from the list. The portions were of a good size and tasty. The bill for the two of us came to just under £100 which we found expensive for what it was. In summary it was a decent enough meal but in no way memorable. If it had come in at about £80 it would have been more acceptable taking everything into account. Certainly from this experience the food at the relatively close by Princess of Shoreditch is better and cheaper. Even though the evening was ok we would be unlikely to return as the competition at around this price point is better and cheaper.

We went to the restaurant as a group of friends who don't see each other often enough for our annual Christmas meal. There were 8 of us. The restaurant itself was okay, attractive enough - has a slightly cavernous functional feel to it rather than lavish or luxurious...but then I guess it does have the word 'Bistro' in the title. My problems were : with the menu we were offered, the misleading descriptions of the food on it and to what extent the food represents value for money (which I think it doesn't). What was not explained to me at the point of booking, was that if you are a party of seven or over, you are NOT entitled to order from the a la carte menu - what we discovered (only on arrival) was that instead, a reduced menu is on offer. This is a shame, if you've been planning the trip for a while and already had your eye on something listed on the website menu, not made available in the reduced version. Then, the descriptions : I ordered something which was listed as pheasant with gnocchi - from this I understood I'd be getting a whole piece of meat (perhaps even on the bone) that I could cut into; what arrived was actually a combination of bitesized bits of pheasant and pheasant meatballs. Tasty - but not at all what I was expecting - and disappointing at that. The food was good - tasty - adequate - but the reviews I'd read and the price tag attached, lead me to believe that we'd be experiencing a calibre far higher than the one we got. The staff were lovely on the night - but for the overall experience - I shan't be returning,

This is an under rated place with a cracking menu, nice wine list, good atmosphere and generally a decent package for a relaxed lunch. Would recommend.

Impromptu dinner with three friends on a November evening. Nice table with lots of space between us and our neighbours, we only had mains and puddings - no starters and no wine - but everything was excellent. Two roast chickens, a duck special and a portion of gnocchi for mains and a chocolate tart, basque cake and passion fruit moose afterwards. All excellent and all for about £25 a head. Well worth a visit.

Cote Brasserie- Barbicanlocation-icon57 Whitecross StreetFrench

On Sunday 13th November I called Cote Barbican to reserve a table for dinner for the 16th at 6.15pm before we went to a concert at the Barbican. I received a text confirmation of my reservation. I arrived there on a wet windy night and was told that there was a private party and there was no table for me. I said that I had a confirmation from them and that this formed a contract between us - I was here where was my table? "Most Unfortunate" was the best they could say! - but they could send us to a nearby restaurant. I was rudely hustled outside the restaurant into the rain to wait for my Husband. Whilst I was waiting i checked my phone and found the text. I went back inside where the same man tried to rudely hustled back outside - I said there was no way i was going outside to discuss their problem but was almost pushed to get out - the man saying that he would get me a taxi. I refused as my husband had not arrived. Obviously we would not be able to attend the concert if we had to find another restaurant . I found the whole episode immensely distressing, the man - rude and unapologetic. I found the whole episode immensely distressing, the man - rude and unapologetic andI left feeling absolutely furious to be treated in such a manner!!!!! Where is Courtesy? Obviously NOT at COTE BRASSERIE BARBICAN!!!
