Bistro8 in Caerphilly

I was a regular at Bistro 8 a few years ago so it was nice to return there after a break to see if the food and the pub had maintained the same high standards and quality of ingredients. I am sorry to say that there has been a dropped in the eating experience there. I initially sat on a chair that was battered and deserved to be in a skip as the material was worn and there was no padding in the seat. I had the Catalan Chorizo to start, it was a clump of meat in a bowl…£8 a bowl, I expected a little more. I had the Korean chicken burger which was excellent. My partner had the lasagne but the meat was poor quality. I appreciate that businesses are finding it hard with rising costs but please sort out the basics to keep customers returning. However, I would give staff 5 stars as they were excellent.

Unfortunately it was quite disappointing. We had heard mixed reviews before we came but decided to give it a try for our 10 year anniversary. The food was very overpriced for the quality that was provided. For example, the bruschetta had such a tiny sprinkling of goats cheese that you could barely see it (despite that being the main ingredient on the menu description), the red onions were far to overpowering and the bread hadn’t been toasted. The duck ragu pasta was bland and lacking in any cooking skill. The pinenuts hadn’t even seen the inside of a frying pan and the tomatoes tasted tinned. It was certainly edible and the staff were pleasant enough, but the overall experience was dissatisfying due to the fact that we paid such a high price for poor quality food. It’s a lovely space and setting but the food sadly doesn’t deliver.

First time going to Bistro 8 yesterday with a friend and I wasn’t disappointed! The food and presentation was amazing. I had the beef roast dinner, beef was so tender it just fell apart and the cauliflower cheeses was a huge portion. Had the chocolate cake to finish and it was beautiful! Think I’ve found my new roast dinner place to go to. Highly recommend and I can’t wait to try their normal menu.

Great surroundings, great staff Ethan and Emily looked after us well. Food was excellent only tried lunch menu but will be back for more exploration of the menu.

Visited today for Sunday lunch started with creamy garlic mushrooms on sourdough bread for starter then I had a trio of meats beef ,pork and turkey with seasonal veg fluffy roasties and Yorkshire pudding amazing food

Teigan was amazing, could not do enough for us from the moment we stepped inside. We sat downstairs in the dog friendly area. She was even accommodating for them with water bowls without prompt! The food was fresh, hot and delicious. We will be back thank you Teigan!!

Such a lovely gem of a place to find locally - a must try! Plenty of car parking opposite & an easy to find place. Chocolate fudge cake was delicious & the tapas starters were fabulous portion sizes! Mains were excellent & service was friendly and great :’)

Everything was perfection. Food was delicious, decor stunning, and service from Teigan was spot on. Teigan was so helpful, nothing was too much for her…even when the dogs spilt their water. Loved the dog menu

Came in for a mother's day lunch after hearing all the good things about this business and it was definitely worth the hype! We were greeted and seated with a smile by Teigan and she happily answered all the questions myself and my mother asked. The roast was perfect and the roasties well I wanted more!! Myself and my family will be back.

Had a fantastic Mother's Day lunch here today. Food was fantastic; portions excellent; and the service we had from Cariad was spot on. Highly recommend.

Worst, over priced Sunday lunch we've ever had. Everything overcooked or burnt, poor choice, just beef, pork or sausage. Had to wait for wine which had been forgotten for 15mins. Won't be back, shame as we live locally.
