Bishop's Dining Room & Wine Bar in Norwich

Fantastic Sunday Lunch had this time and it’s always been fab when we have visited. Def one of the best places to eat in Norwich. Food - 5 One of the best roasts in Norwich. Very good quality, options on meat and variation. Starters were equally good. Cannot speak highly enough about the food. Consistently good food when we have been here. Service - 5 Always top service at Bishops and this visit was no different. So welcoming with a drink at the bar with the option to order food before taking your table. Alex who owns the place is part of the service team and sets the standard and everyone else maintains it. Such lovely friendly people. Ambience - 5 Such a small restaurant but great atmosphere. Again, it’s in the owners image and his and the team’s attitude really set the mood.

Me and my family recently visited Bishops and it was incredible. The staff were very welcoming and accommodating. The food was expensive but I could not fault it. The experience was delightful. Me and my family would definitely return.

We go out for lots of lunches. This was definitely one of the best. Very high quality food, beautifully served. Just the right amount and enough choice. Excellent, friendly service in pleasant surroundings. Fabulous Pinot Grigio too! We will be back for more and have already recommended to friends.

This is our second visit for lunch and the food has always been superb. There is an excellent choice of dishes and every course is beautifully presented and delicious. The service is excellent and there is always a lovely welcome. We were so impressed when a dish we had mentioned we wanted to return to try had changed with the new menu, but the owner had so kindly arranged for us to have the dish on our latest visit. This was such a wonderful touch and a great surprise. That is proper old-fashioned service. It’s a lovely setting and our favourite restaurant in Norwich.

Food was excellent. Tastefully presented, delicate flavours and great wine to accompany it. Our waitress was great too. The whole experience was top quality!

We always have a lovely meal at Bishops however last night's meal was absolutely delicious and we both thoroughly enjoyed our evening here. The wine was very nice and the service was second to none.

Fabulous food in an intimate and warm setting. Friendly staff, g cocktails. All in all a lovely experience but £100/head it was a special occasion venue for us at least.

Amazing service and food, never disappoints to provide a great experience

We visited Bishop's in between two films at Cinema City. We've been a few times over the years, and it's always been enjoyable. On this occasion, it was for their Sunday lunch. A Sunday roast is never as good in a pub or restaurant as it is at home. Timings of potatoes and Yorkshire puddings usually don't fit in with individual service times. However, Bishop's pulled it off. It's probably the best Sunday Roast I've had out, certainly in Norfolk.

Bishops never fails to exceed in all areas. The food was excellent in both taste and presentation and the service impeccable. A red rose for each table on Valentines Day was a lovely additional attention to detail. This will always be my ‘go to’ restaurant in Norwich.

Bishops is still our favourite date night destination. We always have a lovely meal. Quality of the food is even better with the new chef. Excellent wine list. Very attentive service.

We have never been here before but really enjoyed it Will go again The manager owner was very friendly as were all the staff . The food was amazing My only points would be the paprika butter didn’t taste of anything so leave it plain and the game terrine was too salty for my liking . But the rest of the food was lovely Drinks were made very well too .

Our first time here for my wife's birthday. A first class service. The evening dinner was faultless and to a very high standard. The staff are very polite. Attentive and professional. The choice of wines is very good and served at exactly the right temperature. A return visit is planned.

Another delightful meal at Bishops. Alessandro tends to his customers with care alongside his lovely staff. A warm welcome and a drink at the bar while you look at the menu, which is chosen with seasonal produce in mind and offers a lovely range of dishes to suit everyone. Then to the table, some lovely bread and homemade butter, friendly and efficient service and a leisurely lunch or dinner... Great pricing for either two or three courses, and just such delicious food. Highly recommend.

Met for a business meeting over a meal with a colleague. He’d used this place several times before and I fully understand why. A great, characterful, independently eatery with real personal touch. Great ambience and a lovely welcome. The food was first class. Duck breast with game pie, parsnips etc. Couldn’t fault it in any way! Would definitely return and use this place both for business or if in the area with my wife. Highly recommended!!

Birthday lunch for my wife on a Sunday. Having been previously, it appeared to be a little more crowded and noisey, so not sure if there is an additional table, or it was just our perception. The staff are lovely and very attentative. The main courses (roastpork and chicken) were very tasty and plentiful. However, although the gravy was tasty, it was far too thick , so much so that it would not pour from the jug. The table adjoining us also had the same issue and asked for it to be thinned down. The apple tarte tatin desert was probably the best one we have ever tasted. (My wife makes it and even said how lovely it was). We would deffinately return again and reccomend it.

Bishops has always been a great place to dine. However, since they recruited their new head chef it has definitely gone up a level. Fantastic seasonal ingredients and creativity with excellent, well balanced service. Great wine list and really nice ambiance; no shouty tables on any of the occasions I have been in there.

Extremely friendly and welcoming host and waitress with an outstanding meal so congratulations to the chef and kitchen. We were warmly welcomed into Bishop’s with a smile and felt very comfortable with the way we were greeted, we were showed straight to the table where we had plenty of time to look at the menu whilst having a drink. The staff were excellent, tending to our every need. Seeing that it was a busy service creating a warm vibe with talking and laughter throughout. The food was delightful and very well balanced leaving me wanting more. The chef Barry has clearly got his flavours, textures and portions spot on, leaving me looking forward to the next course. After having a delicious dessert feeling comfortable, we finished off with a lovely flavoured coffee and petit fours. Kind regards

Visited here for a family meal with 4 of us. Have been previously so had a good idea of what to expect. The food was excellent. Great flavours and well presented. I had the 3 course vegan menu which was very good. The staff are very attentive, polite and helpful. A very enjoyable evening meal. The restaurant itself is small but cosy. Highly recommended.

Great personal service, terrific food and such an intimate atmosphere

From the moment we stepped into Bishop's we were warmly welcomed. Service was friendly, knowledgeable and excellent and the food was amazing. Charred Mussels, twice baked Cheese Souffle, Beef Sirloin, Duck breast, Apple Tarte Tatin and Tiramisu were all fantastic. Great drinks and wine list. A lovely experience from start to finish.

I love to eat out in Norwich, but Bishop’s Dining Room & Wine Bar has been my most favourite place to visit for many years. The menu and quality of the food is great, the service is always excellent, and (in my opinion) it also represents tremendous value for money. In addition to this, I am very fond of the ambience, and the owner (Alessandro) is the most wonderful host. I would not hesitate to recommend Bishop’s to anyone that enjoys fine dining or, alternatively, for the best roast dinner in Norwich on a Sunday lunchtime.

Brought my family here for a pre Christmas meal,which I booked many weeks in advance .Unfortunately I was rather disappointed,as the first 2 things I asked for (the oyster starter and Rioja wine) were unavailable.I thought the service left a little to be desired ,so left feeling a bit deflated.

A truly beautiful meal, all four diners enjoyed every course. The venison melted in your mouth and the accompanying potato dish was amazing. Definitely a place we would recommend and we will be going back. Thank you to all at Bishops for a wonderful evening.

We booked a table at noon for lunch for three people. The lunch menu is excellent value, whether having two or three courses. The charred mackerel starter was very good and the potato alpine soup starter exquisite. The molasses chicken was very tasty and the Christmas jus excellent. The beef featherblade was cooked to perfection and a very generous portion.

Visited for our book club xmas meal, we always try to go somewhere ‘special’ but quite frankly we were very disappointed. The food was lovely, couldn’t be faulted. The service put a dampener on our evening. The staff said the ticket for our desserts didn’t go through, staff didn’t realise until we mentioned this 30 mins after ordering, another 15 minutes of waiting dessert never came so we requested the bill. Our table was booked for 2 hours and we were already over this due to the wait and we had pre booked taxis home. No gesture of good will was taken off of the bill until we again mentioned this. And finally we had to pay a £10 deposit when booking as we were a table over 5 people. This was not deducted from our bill, until we mentioned this. 3 staff on duty, all 3 looked and then had to amend our bill. Will not be returning unfortunately.

Bishops is a top-de-top restaurant, arguably the best in Norwich. It is fine dining without the food being overly processed simply for the sake of it. The presentation is excellent, the portions just the right size and the tastes subtle but definite. The service is really on- the- ball. It is undoubtedly a centre of excellence. You come out feeling that you have had a great dinner, without feeling over full. It is hard always to get things “just right” but this dining room does it consistently.

Went here last night with my parents and partner. We felt very welcomed by everyone. Tables were set out beautifully, they took note of my dad's allergy and were able to recommend alternative dishes where needed and offer substitutes on current dishes as well, even redoing the side vegetables before they came out of the kitchen because they realised it had that certain ingredient! The red wine we chose was decantered before serving and tasted devine, the whole experience was worth every penny and I highly recommend this place to anyone who is going out to eat or even just a glass of wine!

This is the best restaurant in Norwich and the outskirts. The food, service , atmosphere,and host Alex are impeccable.

Lovely food. Probably one or two too many covers squeezed in. The woman on the next door had a laugh like a drain but beyond the owner’s control. High quality food and a good wine list. Nice atmosphere and excellent service. Very good champagne cocktails. Stonebass excellent.

We really enjoyed our experience as we always have at Bishop's, but feel the menu is very limited, especially the starters if you don't like fish. The roast beef Sunday lunch was fantastic though.

When we arrived it was early evening 6.30 pm , very good welcome , very small dinning room .starter was good , main course was excellent , deserts were very poor , the service was good but the worst thing was ,we where near the end of our meal and the table next us were seated and the space was so tight that the back of their chair touched our table , not the people’s fault but it was the restaurant’s, we couldn’t finish our conversion . Had a brandy and left , would not go back .

I loved everything about the place. One of the waiting staff, the one serving us was conspicuously not attentive though. Didn't care to tell us about the specials, taking the order, etc... But we loved the food nevertheless. Hope to go again at a time when we'll be waited by another staff member though

We received a warm,friendly greeting when we arrived at the Bishop’s Dining Room. We chose this restaurant because of the menu choice and we were not disappointed. The food was delicious and very well presented. We have visited this restaurant on several occasions and we have never been disappointed with either the food or the excellent service. We had a Sunday roast 2 course. Burnt Yorkshire pudding tops- they must have been aware as they were served upside down on the plate so little point in notifying them if that’s the standard they’re going for. The rest of the roasts, chicken and beef were enjoyable as were the starters. One of those small room restaurants where they cram every table as close together as uncomfortably possible, so if you don’t mind that then give it a go. By misfortune we were situated next to an obnoxiously loud group. Therefore gave desserts a miss. For the fine dining feel they’re going for it’s reasonably priced so will give it another go.

Visited on Sunday for a roast dinner and the whole experience was outstanding! As soon as we arrived we received a very warm welcome from Alessandro and got asked if we wanted a drink. When the rest of the party arrived we were promptly shown to our table. Food was exquisite with excellent customer service. Well thought and incredibly presented dishes with outstanding flavours. Fabulous food ! Wonderful service ! We both had the soufflé starter which was delicious, I had the beetroot assortment for my main also excellent and my friend had the steak fillet which he thought was really good and thoroughly enjoyed the whole dining experience will be returning as soon as possible !

Rate this restaurant with the best. Well laid tables, atmosphere with a quiet buzz. Service really good, helpful, informed and present when wanted. Menu appealing , just the right size with good options. Food more than lived up to expectations with imaginative use of ingredients. Wine list offering good value and option. In all, a brilliant experience - having never been there before it is all the more enjoyable when the unexpected delivers 100%.

Excellent, classy little restaurant. We were a group of three and each had something different from the lunch menu (starters and main courses) paired with a rather good valpolicella. I can’t believe there are 30+ restaurants ranked better that this in Norwich.

Wandering through Norwich looking for somewhere to have lunch we came across this restaurant. What a delight! The setting is intimate. The food is to the highest standard. The lunch menu offered a choice of three starters and three mains and, by chance, as we were three, we opted for all options so we can attest to the quality.

I love Bishop's, the food is exceptional and the service is always great. I highly recommend it.
