Well worth the journey or the drop-in (pre-book advised in season) with a wide range of food and drink all home made to order. (no alcohol). As you'd expect the views are phenomenal. Food delicious!

Called in after a brisk walk along the coast to warm up. The menu is great, lots of choice for both food and drinks. We had sandwiches but the cakes looked very tempting! We both enjoyed our food and the service was excellent, overall good value for money. I think the tea room does get busy so if you know you want to visit, it's probably worth calling ahead to book a table. We just dropped in on the off chance and luckily someone was just leaving! There is a small car park near the tea room where you can park your car. The cafe isn't dog friendly, however the car park is safe and off the road and as it wasn't hot, we were able to leave our dogs in the car without worrying about them.

What a fantastic spot. Hidden away and off the beaten track! If it was possible I would award 6 stars. We arrived late - one minute before closing and 29 minutes after last orders but the ever so friendly staff served us teas, coffees and delicious cake and as they were closing gave us two bags of fresh scones. Great views as well. If you in Orkney we’ll worth a visit.

We stopped off for lunch and managed to snag a table (unlike us, book in advance)! A pretty little tearoom in a beautiful location and the food didn't disappoint. The menu and specials were a great cross-section of choices to suit all - throughly recommend the beef and horseradish sandwich, it was AMAZING! The service was good, the staff were cheery and helpful and the ambiance was busy with families, couple, singles all enjoying being there

We had a lovely lunch here. I had the cream tea, my daughters had crustless quiche with salad and a jacket potato. (Didn't seem overpriced compared with anywhere else - perhaps some other reviewers need to try running a catering business post-covid and post-Brexit!). Make sure you book a day or two ahead, it's VERY busy at lunchtime, and everything's prepared to order, so don't have somewhere to urgently be, just sit and enjoy the wonderful sea views.

Writing this live - very busy so decided on takeaway. I'm sat eating an amazing local beef burger with local cheese and bacon, on the grass outside in the sun listening to the birds. Takeaway order took about 10mins. Cappuccino to die for with a truly generous shot of gingerbread syrup. My only criticism is they need a few more tables outside!

We called in late one afternoon near to closing and they were still very busy but we got a seat. People were constantly turning up. We had cake and a drink which were generous in size and reasonably priced. It was so good we went back again and this time had to wait for a table and then was moved to another smaller table when a larger group came in. The food is more light snacks than a main meal, but looked good. Great views over the bay. Limited car parking for the number of people arriving, but it's at the end of the road, so there's space to park there. Definitely needs more seating!!

Visited with my group of 18 walkers. We had prearranged a soup, sandwich and fancy lunch. It was fantastic! Service was efficient by very pleasant staff and the food was delicious. The fancy cakes in particular were very popular, great selection of a wide variety and the few that we couldn’t manage to eat were taken away to be enjoyed later. Dietary requirements were well catered for. My vegan cakes were divine. All with probably the best tearoom view in Orkney. Superb place to eat.

The milkshakes and cake are great. However.... The menu here used to be much more interesting pre-lockdown and ever since has been disappointing. If you don't like cheese you'll struggle to find an option. There used to be lovely local shellfish options (crab rolls were excellent) and there was even tuna as an option. But now it is basically variations on a cheese sandwich. The cake is always very good and fresh. It's just a very boring lunch selection now whereas it used to be much more interesting. And please put a crust back on the quiche! On my most recent visit I had a cheese and chutney toasty which was lacking chutney and the cheese wasn't melted properly.

Very average and very over priced. £8.40 for a small jacket pot with beans and cheese? Really? The other food we had and saw was also not up to what you'd expect for a place so highly recommended. Very busy and tables packed in so book in advance of you want to get a place. Lent a bit of an unrelaxed feel when there are people queuing in the corridor and looking in to see if you're nearly finished. But hey, that's normal if you've been waiting at while. We happened upon this after a couple of hours visiting the different sights nearby. Really lovely, great scones and tea, but lots of cakes and lunch to be had too. Love the way they have turned old cups and saucers into lights along the ceiling and also into pictures on the wall. Very friendly and very welcoming staff.

Fabulous location with wonderful views. Friendly efficient staff. Homemade delicious food, about 8 different types of top notch cakes. Great scones with jam and cream. All in all fab - especially when you come across this gem after a long walk.

This is a lovely tea room with a view across the bay. Varied menu but a special mention must be made about the cakes which are scrummy! It is popular and you may have to wait (unless you book) but it is worth it. The service is friendly and efficient.

Every time we come to Orkney we visit this tea room, it is fab! It is also very popular indeed. The latest visit saw us try twice to gain access as the first time there was a huge queue out the door. Eventually we were successful but had to sit outside. It was a glorious early July day but the wind was nippy and fierce as usual. We ordered a burger and a sausage sandwich, both came with crisps which blew away. We then extended this to add 2 cups of tea, a lemon drizzle cake and a double espresso cake. It is in this detail that you see why people flock here. The cakes are great and there is a huge choice.

The tearoom was full when we arrived (always a good sign) but the waitress gave us menus and promised to let us know immediately a table came available - by the time we had decided what we wanted a table was ready for us. The four of us had soup and cheese scones and all agreed how delicious it was.

Picture 12 hungry teenagers and 4 chaperones. Light breakfast, no lunch. It's 3 PM and the hanger is setting in. With the help of Alex from Cycle Orkney in Kirkwall we have reservations to stop at Birsay Bay Tearoom while waiting for low tide to walk the Brough of Birsay. The chaperone sitting with the oldest boys was surprised to hear how enchanted they were with the tearoom and the food. Normally a vocal and somewhat loud group, there were hushed whispers as they reviewed the menu and discussed what to get. Many meals were shared because "You've got to try this!" was heard over and over. The food and service were exceptional! Thank you to Birsay Bay Tearoom for your kindness and patience with our group that was far away from home. We've been home two weeks and they are still talking about the tearoom. Mahalo!

The tea shop is on the outskirts of the amazing village of Birsay. Nice service when arrived, some tables were reserved but do leave some free for walking like us

Birsay Bay Tearoom is incredible. Simple, tasty and filling fare, perfect on a cold wet day, but perfect anytime. Soup and a toastie hit the spot. Everyone in the party enjoyed what they ordered. Service was quick even though they were very busy. Uses quality local produce. Good portions. Thoroughly recommended.

This is a lovely tearoom. It was really busy when we arrived but we managed to get a table and the staff were lovely and very efficient. The cakes were very tasty with a great selection available including vegan options. It was also great to see the cafe has achieved the Healthy Living Award for offering healthier food and drink options. A lovely place to have a bite to eat and watch the cows in the fields.

Visited as part of a tour and had a lovely fresh lunch. Food is excellent and fresh (Orkney cheese and asparagus quiche, homemade soup, fresh rolls with filling for example). We visited on a Saturday and booking was essential and apparently also for Sundays. The outlook is over a field of cows and calves (in May) down to the sea.

My mother loves the turmeric lattes here, and said she would treat me to one. It hadn't occured to her that this would contain sugar, and she rather led me to think it didn't. It was all just a bit unfortunate, the drink is really tasty though. We both had ours made with oat milk, he uses the fancy barista oat milk so it's nice and creamy. It turns out that both the turmeric and the chai latte are made with syrup which has a ton of sugar in, certainly enough to be problematic for a diabetic. I wish places would have this marked on menus, or something! I was trying to think about what all would be suitable but the owner commented that he's not a mind reader, so I just ordered the turmeric latte after all. This isn't why I took a star off, that's because it's just a tad too small to be a sit-in cafe. My mum finds it too cramped, and doesn't like the chairs. It has nice quirky decor and had quite groovy music while we were in ordering our drinks. You can go along to the town hall if it's open, and drink your to-do drinks in the spacious comfy environment there, if you like things roomy. This is what we did, and I recommend it. It's really a nice wee place, I'm just not sure whether there's anything at all on the menu I can order without being unwell because of it. It has lots of tasty looking vegan snacks ans cakes and such available, which I'd be all about; except unfortunately for me they probably all have loads of sugar too. I'll need to ask the fellow who runs it, when I'm by there next. In conclusion, it's a nice peedie cafe with an eccentric ambience. I recommend it.

We have eaten here a few times and each time it has been a very good experience both food and servicewise. There is a very good selection of beers, cocktails and soft drinks. We love the small plates idea here and usually have two mains peedie plates, roughly a tenner each with a side or two and some fries, great to share and sample different dishes. Also this time we managed a pudding and both the Apple pie and the Banoffee Bread & butter pudding were excellent. The peedie plates change frequently so you will always find something different. Loved the Pork ribs, Mexican chicken leg, and the beef and prawn dishes that we ordered. Like the vibe here and the staff are a huge part of this, they seem to have the same staff on most of the the and this is always a good sigh if they can keep the staff nowadays. So if you are looking for a good feed and a great night out in Kirkwall, don't miss Twenty One

It's no longer a restaurant, but a help yourself facility that offers tea, coffee, biscuits, home made cakes etc, with suggested donations in a tin. Perfectly fine as a place to have a rest, a hot drink and a snack after a walk around this lovely island, and before taking the ferry back to Kirkwall. The local museum upstairs is an interesting place to visit, and the community-run gift shop has some nice produce and artwork on offer.
