Came here on advice from friends who claimed that it’s the best fish and chips....ever!Well after a portion of fish, chips and mushy peas...I certainly agree. I usually pick my fish out of the batter and leave the batter, but this batter was so light and crispy that I ate the lot! The fish was thick and moist; just as fish should be, and delicious. Will definitely be returning.

Fab food and fantastic service. The gentleman who served me was lovely couldn’t do anything more, polite and generally cares about the customers. Will be returning when next in town. Thank you!

Just came in for my dinner and I can honestly say it was one of the best fish and chips I’ve ever had lovely staff also they make you feel very welcome would highly recommend

Came to try Billy's since its been taken over by its new owners.Such a lovely hard working couple. Good vibes when you walk in, looked clean, roomy and bright. Has a small sit down area too . Most importantly the food was lovely, we had fish and chips which were spot on, fish cooked beautifully. Will definitely continue to come. Thankyou.

Can honestly say, best batter I’ve ever tasted. Great fish, wouldn’t eat from anywhere else. The batter has the perfect consistency, crispy fluffy,light and cooked evenly. Great Staff and service. Very clean too.

I truly believe that the employee's known as liam and lennie and great and very helpful, without liam's advance potato knowledge i dont think this establishment would be the same i belive they are worthy of a raise and i finally think they should let lennie handle the sausages

What do you expect from a Chippy ? Nice food and polite service is what I expect and is what i got. I tried a bit of everything as I like to know how the menu tastes and i wasn't disappointed by any of it . Would highly recommend to anyone to try it. The Cod was arguably the best i've tried and i've tried a lot :)

I was very impressed with this chip shop. Leukio is a Cypriot who has taken over this shop. He is a young talent who has Been in this game for 15 years. The food is fresh and the staff are pledent and very friendly ready to meet your every need.I will definitely be returning to this shop as its the best chip shop in Glossop.I will be recommending his food to family and friends.

Two certain individuals working here are rude and do not deserve a job in this place, one I believe I heard goes by Liam and the other I believe Lennie, they are rude loud and take the p**s if I’m honest will not be going back here until I know these kids are gone!!

Went to Billy's tonight as the other chippy on the same road was closed. Knowing the portions are noticeably smaller than the used to be and the prices have gone up. I asked for everything to be separate as normaly you get a larget portion. How wrong was I. Portion of chips and a pudding thrown together, bearly filling half of the plastic tray. Wont be going here again, make the effort to go to one off the others.

The best fish and chips within 10 miles. Well cooked, cripsy fish and proper nice crispy chips. Service is excellent

Used to be great some years back but over the last year or two, this place has gone right downhill.Firstly the service is terrible. You wait ages and it's down to disorganisation and apathetic slow service, not just the cooking time. Plus regulars and friends of staff always get their food first even if they come in after you. Second, when you order takeout, you almost always get home to find an item missing. When you eat in there are order mistakes too and the staff are really rude about it and never apologetic. They act like it's your fault they can't do their job properly.Third, the standard of food is nowhere near as good as it once was. The batter is soft and soggy now instead of crispy. The chips are tired soggy and brown and the fish is of a poorer standard too. I've given it many more last chances that it deserves but no more. I'm tired of wasting my money here. Such a shame.

Went to get a take out for two. Fish was cooked to order, large chips was enough for 3 or 4 persons, they could have done with a longer fry. Fish(haddock) was tasty, but the batter was only crisp in parts, soggy in most of it, so my wife could not eat hers. Good atmosphere in the frying area, staff helpful and cheery. Didn't go into the restaurant area.

Checked opening times and said that they were open to 9pm. I arrived at 8:30pm to be told they were closed - wasted journey.

Beautifully cooked, fresh fish and great chips. Wonderful, old fashioned mushy peas. All cooked, fresh, to order. Wide range of dishes, pies, kebabs. Curry sauce comes in choice of heats

This is the best chip shop in the area. Good food, good service and good portion size. A real variety of food on offer depending what you want but the fish & chips are fab

For the second time in a fortnight, visited Billy’s for fish and chip meal. For the second time the fish was fresh and very tasty, but also for the second time the chips were absolute garbage. They are short ( the longest we had was not much more than an inch long), very pale and mostly very scrawny. It was the same on previous visit, but I gave them benefit of the doubt for the second visit. Will not be returning for chips again, a shame since everything else is very food

I am very picky about fish and chips. Don't like the Chinese chippies because of the mixed frying and HATE soggy batter!

Summer body beckons so won’t be visiting here for some time. However they do make amazing fish and chips. Great little seating place attached. Very popular

After a long day walking in the hills I was struggling up the hill to the station when I came across this oasis in the desert, a local chippy with tables where I could sit down and rest while waiting for my meal. Quick service with a smile, and lovely fish, good batter and fresh chips. The price was very reasonable. Five minutes after paying I was on the train feeling like the cat that got the cream.

This is a great chippy with friendly staff. If you are on a budget then this is the place to eat; the meal deals are great value for money. Eat in or take away.

As my last review says each time I return to the UK from Australia I visit Billy's Plaice , you may wait several minutes for you fish to be freshly cooked but its worth the wait , fresh fish , crisp batter and the size is massive. I returned 3 weeks later and downgraded my order to small fish & chips but this was adequate.Take away or in house eating you have to try it.

Visiting after the change of ownership OI found some teething problems. But after some time I have seen improvements. I am to ask the owner if I can assist in resolving certain small issues. But it is their *****PLAICE****** Dr Michael Perry

Having been recommended to this place earlier in the day as the best fish and chips in the area we called in late this evening after having taken our granddaughter back to her mum and dad. We ordered fish large chips and peas twice. Fish was cooked to order, but when the fish was cooked the chips had run out, so had to wait for fresh chips, not a problem. We live about 3 miles away, when we got home, all stone cold which neither of us could eat and no peas. Must have caught them as they were getting ready to close. Sorry, won't be going back!

Fantastic family run fish and chip shop on the high street in Hadfield ! Another plus point is it is a Greek Cypriot family who own it ! Very friendly staff but the main man is Michalis...top guy and nothing is too much trouble for him ! My 90 year old father loves the place as he can speak his native tongue ! The food is excellent and the portions are huge...fresh fish is lovely as are the kebabs ! Can get really busy especially during the day . Very good value for money !

Well I can taste the fresh fish and crispy batter whilst writing this in Australia and my mouth is watering . This is a must place to visit for anyone wanting to experience traditional fish & chips . We ate in the restaurant and we served quickly the most important thing to remember is the fish is cooked to order not pre cooked and kept warm this makes a huge difference ,the new manager a young lad came to speak with us and asked about our meals and generally wanted to know about our experience, can't wait for my next trip back to the UK and making a B- line to Billy's

Yo estaba en un sendero de hadfield, devolviendo me paré para almorzar tarde y tuvimos impresionantes chips pollo n. Es un lugar de pescado pero le recomiendo tratar de pollo. Fue servido con pan de pita y ensalada de patatas fritas y personal, el tamaño de la porción era grande y amable, gracias por sus servicios Billys.

Lovely food, cooked well and the fish are huge. The staff are all very pleasant and Billy himself is a gent.

Best chunky chips and huge fish I've tasted for ages ..enough to feed 3 on 1 portion ...New owners massive improvment ...

Last twice I have been to Billy's Plaice has been bery disappointing. Three weeks ago the chips were not their usual standard, very greasy. The fish had a soggy bottom. There were two young men in at the time talking to each other and not paying too much attention to service. Went a week later on a Friday teatime and food no better. The chips were cold and looked and tasted as if they had been standing a long time.This is not their usual standard as it the food is normally excellent, hot and the quality exceptional.

A very poor chip shop, despite the lovely staff. The reason? Cheap oil which just soaks everything in so much fat it's revolting. Everything is done on the cheap, the batter is just horrible, again because of the level of greasiness. A shame because it's Hadfields one proper chippy and there aren't many of those about here. Avoid.

Working a few doors down and fancied a change from the usual cafe. Gave Billys Plaice a go. Nice bright clean premises with tables and chairs in a side room.Ordered sausage, chips, roll and coffee. Food was great. Chips not too greasy , sausage crisp and the roll fresh which was great for a chip butty. Looses the star for the coffee as this was very ordinary. Apart from that great staff, great food at a great price.

this is a regular stop off for great fish and chips, you can take away or decide as we do to sit in and relex. The food is outstanding and you want be disappointed. Billy is a real character and has great staff, clean toilets and a good choice of food options but nothing beats his haddock and chips with mushy peas.

I have been hearing how good the fish and chips are from Billy's Plaice for the past year or so. After a long day at work and no energy to cook I decided to ignore the diet for one day and see what all the fuss was about!I ordered chips with curry sauce, I have to say I was in heaven! These are the best chips I have ever had, it was the first time I have throughly enjoyed a whole portion. It was also the first time I have not felt overly full and uncomfortable after getting a chippy and it being a generous portion. In a way I wish I had never tried them though, as they were that nice I will making a regular visit! I have been telling everyone that I have found the best chippy outside of Blackpool- in fact the better than the ones on Blackpool! Highly recommend!

We've had some fairly good fish and chips from here in the past, but if Billy's not doing the frying it can be poor. When Billy's not in, there's a bunch of young people who provide really polite and courteous service but the quality of the food is not good. Shame really as it becomes a gamble as to whether the food will be worth the money.

Hadfield's Fish and Chip shop that is mainly english foods. It started off really good but the chips and staff have now gone a bit downhill. Chips are clearly re-heated and sometimes not cooked at all. Staff are all very young and fast turnover of the staff. Is this management problems?

Clean, bright little cafe attached to the chip shop. Friendly staff, great service and choice of small, medium or large meal. Two of us had freshly cooked fish cake, chips, peas and a pot of tea all for less than a tenner !

The fish and chips used to be lovely but the last 2 times we went they were not as good, has anything changed

We were staying in Glossop for a couple of nights and there are times when only a real fish and chip cafe will hit the spot. And it certainly did! BEAUTIFUL haddock, real chips and real mushy peas. Great service, great staff and a great satisfied feeling when we'd finished eating. The owner and staff obviously take a pride in the shop and cafe - a real credit to Hadfield, Glossop and the UK!! Thanks!

Being an ex pat from Glossop its always nice to relive aspects of your past life when you return back to visit family , a pint in the pub and fish & chips, well any ex pats returning to this neck of the woods don't leave without trying Billy's Plaice as you won't be disappointed . There is a small clean well presented dining room all the staff are pleasant and helpful , the food is awesome, the portions are LARGE and the taste is to die for. The people who live locally have a gem on their doorsteps, for some others like me (I'm drooling whilst writing this) will have to make a special but well worth trip to Billy's Plaice.

Hadn't planned on a chippy tea but it looked so bright and welcoming through the window that I went in on impulse. I am so glad I did. I have had fish and chips in Whitby, Conwy and Fleetwood and this place or should I say plaice was better by far. Fresh fish, light non greasy batter and the best chips that can remember. I will be back....Often!

This is definitely the best fish & chip place around Glossop. The chips are fantastic! They also do kebabs that are perfectly respectable, lifted by a choice of 6 different sauces.

Good service It's nice to get a gluten free meal You need to give them a bit of notice to do gluten free food or be willing to wait.

When I want fish and chips there is only one place to go. It's worth going over to Hadfield from Glossop as they really are the best local chippy. The staff and owner are friendly and it's really good value. The portions are huge. He even makes his mushy peas fresh each day.

This place is great, good food, spotlessly clean and very friendly, affordable with loads of choices. Billy is a fantastic person, although not British, his place smells and taste just as a traditional British Chippy Should - try it you will not be dissopointed!

A real chippy not a curry house with fish and chips take away.Dine in, clean and with good service, dine out with good portions and excellent fish.Situated at the centre of Hadfield competing with curry, kebab, cafe's, another chip shop and a chicken joint, they hold there own. clean and fresh smelling with a welcome from the staff

Called in for lunch, food was really good,staff were very helpful and pleasant. We had a family member with us in a wheelchair the staff were brilliant making access easy for us.

The fish and chips bought here are top rate. Three sizes of portions and all very generous portion size. The fish gorgeous, super batter; all freshly made when you give in the order.We don't go anywhere else. For traditional Fish and chips to take away. The staff are pleasant and efficient. It is not relevant for us to eat in as we only live a very short car ride away but there are generally customers who do dine in, they probably have heard of the good sizes of the portions.

Only ever had fish and chips here but they are absolutely delicious! Beautiful crispy batter on the fish. My partner and I always go for the "mini fish and chips". This is a perfect size for 1. A decent sized fish and just the right amount of chips, plus a side of peas, curry or gravy. The staff are always friendly and welcoming and work hard to serve the customers quickly. They even do special orders for our Guide unit when we have an occasion that calls for chips! I especially like their spicy curry sauce.

Fish and chips to die for, but don't think it's fast food! You have to wait for your fish to be cooked it's so fresh. Non of that fish kept in a hot-plate for hours on end (like the rest of the chip shops in Hadfield) chicken kebabs are georgouse even my 74 year old mum likes them. Highly recommend

Billy's Plaice has sit down and take away. The take away is very popular and busy. Lots of people I know go from Glossop to Hadfield as it's better than the chippys in Glossop.The fish is huge, they also do a mini one which is great for kids and they don't skimp on the chips either. It tastes great and is really good value.When i don't have the Fish I choose the chicken kebab, which makes a nice change, they also do doner kebabs and pies. I noticed they now do a southern fried chicken and call it "BFC" Billys Fried Chicken.
