Lovely food, excellent service and really good atmosphere. Thank you Saf, Foz & Ekon!!!

Food portion for the Bengal special mixed biryani was small and was very bland. The service was below average. Won't be going again and I do not recommend.

We heard about this place from a local in the pub (the three tuns) and they recommended for us to try it. It’s a little gem if you get the chance to there the food is delicious.

Definitely our worst eating experience in York yet. The staff hardly looked at us when speaking to us, the portions were tiny for the price and very bland. When I asked for my leftovers as takeaway, they definitely didn't put all the contents of my plate in the box. Very disappointing!

Easter Saturday night and it was perfect lovely staff who looked after us all night and food was amazing. We didn't want to leave!

We were saying in York for my birthday and decided to order a takeaway. We ordered a selection of things as well as three main meals. The chilli chicken and chicken tikka were ok but my tandoori butter chicken was inedible it consisted of bits of dark chicken meat looked like thighs and the sauce didn’t resemble butter chicken at all. It was very disappointing.

This was my second visit to the Bengal Brasserie, my first time was a couple of years ago while I was visiting from my home in The Netherlands. My first experience was amazing, the food was delicious and the service was great. Everyone was welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. Naturally my friends and I wanted to go again for another meal, again my experience was the same. It is one of the best restaurants I have been to for Indian food. Thank you and I will definitely see you again 🙏🏼

What a beautiful meal in an amazing restaurant. Our second visit from the lakes district. The first time we visited we said it was the best Indian we ever had, and after the second visit I would go as far as to say this was one of the best restaurants we have ever visited and we have eaten all over the world. Saff and his family just make this place so special, you feel like you are welcomed as friends, and looked after as family! The food is also incredible, the garlic prawns were out of this world and our curries were both delicious. Beautiful complimentary drink to finish and the owner ordered us a taxi back to our hotel. Highly highly recommend if you are visiting York, you will not be disappointed by this beautiful Indian restaurant run by one of the nicest families you will ever meet! First time we had been but went with friends who were regulars. A great welcome and well looked after. Food was excellent.

I absolutely love this place it is mine and my girlfriends go to spot for a nice meal. Everything from the service to the food and the atmosphere is just great. Our waiter saf is always so friendly and there to help with anything and suggest the best dishes.

Everything about Bengal was excellent, the service, the food and the atmosphere. The staff couldn’t help enough and especially Saf, who made sure we were well looked after at all times. Portions were amazing and all the food was perfect, very well priced as well. We will be returning in the future.

The food is excellent, as is the service. We were well looked after by Saf! He was very knowledgable and asked what flavours we liked to help pinpoint a dish. The 'Special Patil Curry' is absolutely delicious.

Avoid!!! Went for a birthday celebration but the food was poor at best. A dry and chewy biryani, and a couple of kormas drastically watered down - naan tasted like it had come straight from Tesco… had to walk 5 minutes to find a cashpoint as incredibly it was cash-only night 🤔. Didn’t really appreciate the 2 euro coins they’d hidden in my change (yeah, should have checked but you don’t do you???) Thankfully there’s so much choice in the city so won’t make the mistake of coming to this shack again. Dire

Food was amazing, and the service was equally so. House service was great. I had a chicken tikka madras with red rice, fries, garlic naan. Everything tasted fantastic. The chicken was soft, and plentiful. I was a nightmare customer, and ended up knocking my drink off the table (I know) and the staff were very nice about it. If you’re looking for Indian food in York, then you cant go wrong here. Might want to call first as the restaurant is relatively modest in size, which I prefer, but York can get pretty busy. I got lucky.

Didn't have a booking but still made space for us. The meal was absolutely lovely! Only found this place via Google Maps. My wife had the healthy Chicken curry off the menu and I highly recommend this whether your looking for a healthy option or not. When we come back to York, we will definitely visit again.

Hubby and I just visited York for the weekend. We fancied a curry so browsed Google reviews for ideas. Bengal Brasserie was up there with good reviews and it didn't disappoint. Make sure you book a table as they turned at least 20 away in the hour or so we were there! Do you ever go out for dinner and think "tonight I'm going to try something different" and then go for the usual? Well, I was really brave and went for it, sabzi sizzler, and it was delicious! All 4 waiters served us at some point, Saf, Saj, Jay, Ekon all working great as a team and made our evening most enjoyable. What a lovely place! Next time we're in York (or Leeds as we were told they have one there too!) we will be back!

Lovely food, wonderful welcome in particular from Saf and co. Meal was delicious and plentiful, the naan breads were the best ever tasted. The coffees for dessert were lovely and complimentary, will be back when in the area next.

First time coming here after seeing good reviews. Booked a table for Thursday 18th Jan for 4 people at 8pm, got there, said the table wasn’t ready and to come back in half an hour. Went back in half an hour, told again table wasn’t ready, and then blamed it on a table that supposedly wouldn’t leave when we could clearly see they had only recently been served their mains. I get that double bookings happen and it’s ok, mistakes happen, but to not hold their hands up and say “sorry we’ve messed up” instead trying to blame it on a table reflects so badly on them. Didn’t eat here but never will after the experience we had. *UPDATE ON RESPONSE BELOW* I know exactly where I booked for, Bengal Brasserie York. Check your bookings under Ben for the 18th of January. The food is cooked from scratch to your own liking, they don’t add any colourings or additives. It was so tasty! Saf served us and he was so welcoming and easy going, he made us feel relaxed and comfortable. Definitely going to go back!
